Cowboys and Dudes, old - timers and Indians, bums and bankers - all are subjects of this colorful panorama of Western Americana that stretches from San Diego to Amarillo.
LESTER WARD RUFFNER, a writer with deep roots of his own in Arizona history,, has signed his name "Budge" for several years to a weekly column in the Prescott Courier. Member of a family migrating westward to Arizona in 1867. Ruffner spent his youthful summers on Arizona ranches and Indian reservations and twice as driver and camp tender for early expeditions of anthropologists. His later life in Prescott has revolved around interpersonal and communication associations unique to Arizona and the Southwest --as a member of the Smoki ceremonial dance group, as chairman of the Prescott Centennial Commission, as charter member and onetime sheriff of the Prescott Corral of Westerners, and a 1973 President of the Arizona Historical Society.
Loved this book. Having just returned from Arizona, I found it fun to read this book and identify the places mentioned. Each chapter is 2-3 pages long and tells a story from Arizona legends, folklore, or in some cases probably history. There are lots of interesting characters and many were amusing and I had quite a few chuckles. If you want to learn a bit more about Arizona or just want some fun reading, this is the book for you.
This is a book of stories that the author collected from colleagues, family and friends. Some are true, some are legend. They are all interesting, especially if you are from or live in Arizona.
