From the aster to the zinnia, Mrs. Peanuckle introduces very young children to 26 types of flowers from across the globe. For each one, she offers a single defining characteristic, some of them very surprising. Did you know that there are twice as many orchid species as bird species? It's true! Do flowers taste good? Birds, bees, and butterflies sure think so! You'll even find flowers in certain teas. With bold, colorful pages, strong graphic art, and exciting design, these flowers are certain to be remembered by the children and adults who share this book.
Mrs. Peanuckle’s Flower Alphabet is the third title in a series of board books celebrating the joy of nature at home and in the backyard, from fresh fruits and vegetables to birds, bugs, and trees.
7/10/2023 - Overall, I enjoyed reading this book with my daughter and I even learned a few things. My only complaint is that for some of the flowers the only fact was that the flower comes in a variety of colors and sizes. Seems like a less vague fact could have been added.
It's not often a board book makes you stop and go WOW. I love the inclusion of so many flower species, great vocabulary, and plenty of things on the page to intrigue readers and listeners. This is a board book I can see growing up with a child. Definitely checking out the other books in this series.
Mrs. Peanuckles’s Flower Alphabet book is a colorful explanation of 26 beautiful flowers from around the world. From A to Z, Aster to Zinnia, each flower is characterized and described in its own special way. B is for Bird of paradise These orange beauties grow in tropical places and look like They are trying to fly! Jessie Ford paints beautiful pictures for each flower and plays with different colors, fonts, and sizes to keep the young reader intrigued and excited for the next flower. I recommend this book as a kindergarten read aloud. Students can eagerly predict the next letter in the alphabet and learn fun facts about each flower. S is for Sunflower So big And strong! Wherever They grow, Their faces Turn toward The sun.
The entire Mrs. Peanuckle's ____ Alphabet series has been constantly requested since our baby was 8 months old. The bright colors and flat illustrations captivate him and he has even been learning the letters. I have learned bits and pieces of trivia about the various topics covered by Mrs. Peanuckle too.
My husband and I enjoy trying to figure out exactly who is "Mrs. Peanuckle" and what is her character. So far these are the personal details we have gleaned: She has eaten toxic berries as a young girl; she frequently lists Australian species therefore she may be Australian trying to write for an American market.
A smart alphabet book with lots of interesting facts to learn about flowers. The illustrations and graphics are bright and bold, they really catch your eye and have a distinct style. My only complaint is that the different fonts, such as script, that are used for some of the letters make it harder to identify the letter for children who are just learning the alphabet. I think block letters throughout would’ve been a more practical choice.
Stunning illustrations by Jessie Ford make this tribute to flowers a real treat. There are plenty of fun facts, as well. Did you know there are 28,000 kinds of orchids?
I just love the bold graphics and bright colors of this book!
This is just as cute as the bug alphabet book. The illustrations are just cute and abstract enough to be unique but distinct that you know what it is. We would love to have a big flower garden one day and I want our daughter to be able to recognize which flowers are which. Then she can choose her favorites for her own little flower garden too.
What an excellent little alphabet book! I am fully aware that this is just a board book however I learned some new things about flowers and you could too.
This is a visually stunning celebration of flowers. Even though it is a board book, my 7-year-old and 4-year-old (named Zinnia) loved learning more about all different kinds of flowers.
This is a cute book. I like the art work but the font is kind of busy for little readers. It's a good brief introduction to flowers for kids. It is a board book but older kids can benefit when learning about plants as well.
Delightful, informative, and beautifully illustrated. My favorite flower from this book is yarrow, because "it has lots of funny names: little feather, nosebleed plant, old man's pepper, seven years love, and woundwart."
I just love the Mrs. Peanuckle Alphabet board book series. Mrs. Peanuckle’s Flower Alphabet is an amazing book in the series. Bright, bold, and vivid illustrations, along with whimsical text designs, name a different kind of flower for each letter of the alphabet. Engaging and perfect for a garden themed story time. I also think flower lovers of any age will enjoy this delightful book. Highly recommended.
Fun board book purchased at the annual spring garden show- not my favorite in terms of font and graphic design, but I love the flowers and I’m a sucker for ABC books.
