When Lucy Campbell inherits a multimillion-dollar Manhattan estate, her employer’s nephew sees only a gold-digging scammer. But even with battle lines drawn, CEO Oliver Drake can’t resist the temptation of bedding the very woman he’s trying to expose! Then Lucy delivers her shocking baby news. Does she genuinely desire a future together? Or is it another ploy that could destroy Oliver’s trust forever?
Andrea Laurence has been a lover of reading and writing stories since she learned to read at a young age. She always dreamed of seeing her work in print and is thrilled to finally be able to share her special blend of sensuality and dry, sarcastic humor with the world. A dedicated West Coast girl transplanted into the Deep South, she's working on her own "happily ever after" with her new husband and a golden retriever puppy.
A pleasant, low-angst read. The romance started off a bit slow although the attraction between Lucy and Oliver could be felt from the very beginning, but once the two succumb to the attraction, the romance picks up and gets steamy, especially when Oliver blends tiramisu into the feast. The two had awesome chemistry and made a wonderful pair. Oliver did behave like an ass for a bit accusing Lucy of deliberately getting pregnant when she went to him with the news, but otherwise he was a fun, even though suspicious guy. Him fainting in the end was the icing on the cake. I couldn't stop laughing long after having finished reading the book
I also liked the other characters in the book like Harper who is Oliver's sister and Lucy's best friend and also his dad and his seven year-old step brother. Loved the advice his father gives Oliver when he was pining for Lucy having ended things with her.
What I gathered is this book is part of a series. There was mention of four friends, Lucy, Harper, Emma and Violet. The latter two are pregnant in this book. It ended with Violet having delivered her baby, but the child is not of the man she's engaged to. Apparently, she had an accident and lost memory of that one week of her life. So the next book seems to be on her.
The epilogue was sweet. Overall, a nice, pleasant read
This is another one of the Millionaires of Manhattan series about four women who went to Yale together. Lucy was the poor girl of the group and when she ran out of scholarship money she had to drop out of college. Her friend Harper, whose book comes last out of the four, got her a job as a companion to her agoraphobic great-aunt who was an avid art collector. This worked out really well as Lucy was doing an art degree in the hope of becoming a curator at a museum or gallery.
Five years down the track and ancient aunty has passed on peacefully in her bed and to Lucy's surprise left just about everything to Lucy apart from token money amounts to her family members. And aunty was loaded with a capital B for billionaire. Manhattan apartment, a Monet and squillions in the bank. What more could a girl want?
Harper's brother. Except Oliver is jaded because of his step-mother and all those gorgeous women pursuing him for his hard earned cash. He is certain that Lucy used undue influence to cut out aunties family from the platinum lined will. Naturally it's important he gets to know her while his lawyer puts the kibosh on her ill-gotten inheritance.
Both Oliver and Lucy are decent people fighting an indecent attraction. It's nice watching them get to know each other and seeing that first impressions aren't always reliable. I always find this author's characters believable and mostly reasonable and willing to communicate.
I'll be skipping the story about Violet's amnesia because there are infidelity elements but looking forward to Harper and Sebastian's story.
He can't stand her ... or can he?? A fast-paced story of misconceptions and broken dreams! Oliver and Lucy fall for each other in the most unusual of times in Andrea Laurence's latest installment of her Millionaires of Manhattan series. She's sweet and helpful, he's jaded and wary ... but together, they are a joy to read. It's a super fast courtship, but it just works!
Lucy Campbell adored her elderly employer Alice and is sorry to lose her ... and imagine her shock when she learns she's left her virtually her entire estate! Never able to more than "get by", Lucy can't even imagine the amount of money that's being talked about in the lawyer's office ... but one thing's for sure, she can't believe the things Alice's nephew is implying about her!
CEO Oliver Drake knows that Lucy had to somehow scam his aunt into changing her will, and he's not going to stand by and let her get away with pulling the wool over a delightful old lady's eyes! Only problem is, the more time he spends with her to try to uncover her dirty deeds, the more he truly likes the person he sees. When they trade in their fighting gloves for a bed, it doesn't take Lucy long to fall pregnant, and then Oliver knows for sure it's all been one big scam!
So has he not visited his great-aunt in five years? I'd cut him out of the will.
What kind of mother leaves her kid? Scum.
Mo' money, mo' problems.
Geez, poor Violet.
It's not really a stretch to imagine that her friend's brother would be in the same social circle.
Modern art is weird. Give me a Titian any day.
Damn, poor Aunt Alice! That would give anyone agoraphobia.
I watched a video of Yves Klein "painting". The musicians must have been the envy of all their friends, and the models must have had paint in their hoo-has for days!
Forget the fact that she slept with a guy who's still suing her. She went from Born-again Virgin to Mata Hari in a matter of days?
Yikes! Poor kid.
Clearly people need to stop talking around Danny as if he's in a Cone of Silence.
Ha, a "uterus made in Switzerland"! Nice.
That was a very enlightening drive-by visit, Dad.
Ermigawd, talk about a cliffhanger! I need Violet's book, now!!
I received an advance copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Rags to Riches is a part of Andrea Laurence’s Millionaires of Manhattan series. I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down. I won’t go into all the details of the book only to say that I can definitely see this storyline happening especially in large families with a huge inheritance at stake.
Lucy has become a caregiver for Oliver’s aunt and when she dies, the entire family discovers how important Lucy has become to Alice Drake, Oliver’s aunt. I enjoyed watching all of the drama as it played out amongst the family. It was heartfelt watching as Oliver and Lucy developed their relationship.
This was a perfect afternoon read. I so enjoy reading Ms. Laurence and can’t wait for her next book. I highly recommend reading Rags to Riches. You won’t be disappointed!
Rags to Riches Baby is a sexy romantic dramatic love-story that unfolds like any popular daytime soap opera! It is sophisticated and passionate, with plenty angst to keep the plot interesting. I was fascinated with the two main protagonists. The undercurrent between Lucy Campbell and Oliver Drake is electrifying and intense. What starts out as an angry butting of heads slowly but surely evolves into a red-hot passion that grows out of control. Andrea Laurence is at the top of her game with this story. It has everything a girl wants in a romance, from a sexy hero who sets your toes on fire to a strong, feisty heroine any woman would want as a best friend. This is the perfect indulgent read and I enjoyed every word of it.
The woman he can never trust is having his baby…When Lucy Campbell (elderly assistant) inherits a ½ billion-dollar Manhattan estate, her employer’s nephew sees only a gold-digging scammer. He decides to contest the will because she had to have tricked his aunt into changing her will. But even with battle lines drawn, (CEO of Orion Tech) Oliver Drake can’t resist the temptation of bedding the very woman he’s trying to expose! Then Lucy delivers her shocking baby news and he insults her and claims she’s a better con-artist than he originally thought, she wants a two-fer, the estate, 20 years of child support, and what the children will inherit from his estate. Does she genuinely desire a future together? Or is it another ploy that could destroy Oliver’s trust forever?
Lucy has been handed an apartment, art and billions of dollars by Alice the lady she had been staying with five years...at the will reading she is shocked to learn she was left all of this as she grew up poor and had no money...But Oliver opposes the will...She doesn't believe she has it anyway so continues to live the way she always has..Oliver keeps coming around stirring things up til one night they kiss...then it is on..they are like to flames that spark eveytime they are together..when something happens Oliver blames Lucy and tells her she did it on purpose..it takes his dad talking to him to know that he is the one that is letting fear rule his life...A really good story

I absolutely enjoyed this story, the characters were good! I love how it all turn out, I'm looking forward to the next one in this series.
Isn't everybody's fantasy to suddenly inherit a boatload of money and live the good life? But what if you had no idea this was going to happen and all the family members were dead-set against it? This premise makes an entertaining story, if for nothing else than the descriptions of the apartment and artwork in the inheritance.
It's a little unrealistic that the main guy challenging the will would suddenly fall for Lucy, but since this is a fantasy, I just decided to go with it. When they weren't at odds, they had great chemistry. I'm looking forward to reading about Lucy's friends and their relationships in the rest of the series.
3-3.5 stars This was good but I dropped 1/2 to a full star because the H said some really cruel and nasty things to the h when she told him she was expecting. He did apologize but I think it needed some extra groveling (even if it was just tiny bit) to compensate for what he said to her imo.
when the POV switches after he asks for her forgiveness, I SWEATED lol

Rags to Riches Baby by Andrea Laurence is my first read by this author. Loved the story line right from the beginning and do hope to read more books in the future by this author. Fast faced but also holds your attention. On my keeper shelf for sure.
I don't know what it was about this book, but I just could not get into it. I tried, I really did, but it just fell really flat. The most intense (and interesting) part of this book happened right at the end and was resolved immediately, making the whole book feel like a waste.
Me gustó mucho. 🥺
I liked reading the book that's why 3 stars but didn't like the ending it seemed like it just ended when they should of been more it seemed like u expected more but didn't get it
The writing ability of the author was good and it touched on a storyline that isn't typical. But the male lead character (Oliver) to me was particularly nasty toward the end of the story. I get where he was coming from in the beginning of the storyline but not later on when he was just plain out disgusting. And to me that type of nasty should have eliminated him as a romantic contender for Lucy and really IMO was unforgivable. So I didn't like the ending. IMO Lucy should have dumped Oliver and then gone and found a nice guy. IMO it would have had a better ending if she's lost all of the inheritance and she'd would up with someone else (not Oliver). His apology in the last chapter to me wasn't believable at all and it seemed very forced just to have a so-called happy ending and wasn't realistic. It really doesn't matter if you love someone since to me that doesn't excuse emotional abuse.
Such a cute read! The story line is fabulous and the characters amazing. Oliver and Lucy have a unique relationship from the very beginning and it keeps getting better and better throughout. There is mistrust and attraction as soon as they meet. Loved this book and always enjoy this authors work. Don't miss this one!
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book; all opinions expressed are my own.
Hubiera podido ser mejor pero la remato con el final y sin luchar ni nada, todo fue tan fácil que quien asi no hace cagadas todo el tiempo, pero bueno no se puede exigir mucho con estos libros

The pacing was too slow for me; it frustrates me when I'm told it's a surprise baby book and then that doesn't happen until halfway through the book. This was a DNF for me.
