Harley Quinn (2016) #3-4

Harley Quinn: Rebirth Deluxe Edition, Book 2

Rate this book
If you thought breaking up with the Joker meant things would calm down for comics' most adorable antihero ... well, you ain't met Harley!

It's all-out nuttiness as Harley takes on the corrupt mayor of New York, a time-traveling assassin and her second-deadliest admirer, Harley Sinn, but the Mistress of Mayhem has it handled ... at least until her parents show up!

Mr. and Mrs. Quinzel are in town for their li'l monster's birthday, but is Harley ready for them to meet her crew, including gal-pal Poison Ivy and unstable mercenary Red Tool? By the time the folks' own skeletons finally come bursting out of their closet, Harley's birthday wish may be that she had just stayed in bed!

The unhinged adventures of Harley Quinn take a turn for the even weirder in Harley Quinn Rebirth Deluxe Edition Book 2, a hardcover collection of the smash-hit action-comedy series from writers Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti and artist John Timms, with backup stories by Palmiotti, Paul Dini and Bret Blevins.

Collects: Harley Quinn #14-27 and Harley Quinn 25th Anniversary Special!

Amanda Conner started out in comics working small projects for Marvel and Archie while working as an illustrator for New York ad agencies Kornhauser and Calene and Kidvertisers. working a number of launches and campaigns such as Arm & Hammer, PlaySchool and Nickelodeon.

However, loving comic books and cartooning the most, Amanda found herself working for Marvel on their Barbie line (much of Amanda’s covers inspired designs for the line of Barbie toys), Disney line which included the Gargoyles books. At the same time she was illustrating “Soul Searchers & Co.” for Claypool Comics and worked on other Marvel projects, such as Excalibur for the X-Men line and “Suburban Jersey Ninja She-Devils”.

During an assignment for Crusade (‘Tomoe’) she and Jimmy Palmiotti became a real team as penciller/inker.

Amanda then moved on to do what is probably one of her best known works. She did several years as penciller on the hit series “Vampirella” for Harris Comics and drafted 24 issues. While illustrating “Vampirella”, Amanda worked with the top writers in the field, Grant Morrison, Mark Millar and Warren Ellis.

Continuing to expand her horizons, Amanda illustrated the best-selling crossover “Painkiller Jane vs. the Darkness”, and went on to work on “Painkiller Jane” #0 (the origin book). She also wrote and illustrated a story for “Kid Death and Fluffy”.

Since then, Amanda has worked on many of the top titles in comics such as “Lois Lane”, “Codename: Knockout”, and “Birds of Prey” for D.C. Comics Vertigo line, “X-Men Unlimited” for Marvel, co-created “Gatecrasher” for Blackbull Comics, and “The Pro”, an Eisner nominated creator owned book for Image Comics with Jimmy Palmiotti and Garth Ennis. Recently she worked on the highly publicized Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre series with Eisner winning creator Darwyn Cooke.

Amanda’s work can also be seen outside the comic book community in such places as ABC’S Nightline, the New York Times, Mad Magazine, the new sci-fi Stan lee “So You Want to be a Superhero” series and the upcoming Disney Underdog movie character designs for film and television, character designs for the Los Angeles Avengers stadium football team and is featured in a Biography magazine commercial on A&E. Amanda does spot illustrations in “Revolver” magazine each month and has had a huge success with the JSA Powergirl miniseries in previous years, each issue going into 3rd printings.

She continuously produces cover work for Marvel Comics, DC Comics and an assortment of independent titles.

With PaperFilms co-founder Jimmy Palmiotti, they are currently working on the highly received Harley Quinn series and other Harley Quinn related titles for DC Comics, in addition to several upcoming DC related projects. Garnering national attention and sales results, the team continues to receive accolades for their work on these titles. The new relaunch of Harley Quinn for DC in the Rebirth line garnered an estimated 250,000 copies ordered.

Ademais, a propia Harley no cómic estivo rajando de Tieri por meterlle ao Joker para salvala xddd [Conner, I know what you’re doing and I love it, girl!]

En resumo, too much Joker here.

I don't do spoiler reviews often so hopefully I choose a good one to talk about.

I've been reading all the HQ comics in order and in this issue the violents and adult content took it up a notch!
That's a good thing, for me , by the way.
I think it's still okay for teens, but more HQ comics I'd say are okay for 14 and up, this one is more 16 and up.

I'm talking, fights to the death, implied nudity, gunshots to the Head, Harley literally pulling money out of her ass crack, cannibalism - not once but as a running story line for bad guys, a room full of charcoal bodies, and bazookas.
In fact, the story line is so dark, I believe it's why after every issue they snuck in another running story line, " Harley Loves Joker" , a very sweet, old school style violence and sneaky mischief, just like the original cartoon.
It was like a break for your brain from all the intents violence from the other running storyline.
But then, when they run out of cutesies " Harley Loves Joker" stories, the running storyline is interrupted with a random comic, to which Harley brakes 4th wall, ( not the first time for Harley) and calls up the writers and says, " What the hell just HAPPENED to me....... Who AM I? Yer Biggest Moneymaker...... you rotten dirty RAT-FARTS!"
🤣🤣🤣

But then the next issue is not with the other timeline either, and it's more of a call back to an older issue. So is the next, and the next!
So what gives?!?
I want to know what happens after issue, " Surprise, Surprise, Part 2"
Does Harley run for Mayor? Do they get revenge on the Mayor? Is Harley Sin on their team? What happened to Devani Kage from the future and Red Tool?
Maybe the answer will be in issue 3 but I don't know why they added so many other issues.
For one book, there is a lot of Harley Quinn in here!
It's 384 pages so that's amazing!

One thing I can say about the Harley Quinn comic is that it's consistent. It's not my favorite comic, but it's always entertaining. In this volume we had guest stars galore. Harley battles a super powered despot from under the earth, cannibals that are eating the city's homeless, an assassin from the future sent in order to stop Harley from killing Batman, endures a visit from her family, and has her birthday party wrecked by a group of 25 hired hitmen. Also, even though this has been the case for a while now, there's no more mystery about the relationship between Harley and Poison Ivy. It was first hinted at back on the animated series (which was unusual, especially at the time) but now it's all out of the closet, so to speak.

There's also a series of backup stories by Harley's creator, Bruce Timm, that take us back to Harley and the Joker's glory days.

Overall not bad, what you think you'll get is pretty much what you get. In this case, that's not a bad thing.

Harley Quinn is a really good anti-hero, and is better when she is on her own, and not the Joker's punching bag,(which she was.) The Harley only titles really show that Harley is a character we want to know better.

Some gorgeous art, and some fun stuff. Exactly what you'd expect. Seriously though, Timm's art is beautiful. Ivy's real cute, too, and Selina, and Power Girl and Red Tool and- The point is, as always, Harley has a stellar cast to interact with.

I enjoyed this Deluxe edition, stories were a little scattered but the artwork was absolutely beautiful, as usual. The variant covers in the back, were epic!
