From Publishers Weekly The dramatic yet brief life of the best-known leader of the civil rights movement is vividly explored. Jakoubek grounds the clear and accessible narrative in the history of African-Americans and skillfully weaves in contemporary accounts of King's activities and the movement's major events. King's own speeches and writings are extensively used to deepen the reader's understanding of and respect for the man. No mere hagiography, Jakoubek does not ignore allegations of King's sexual improprieties or gloss over infighting among the movement's black leaders. His even-handed account, which includes an introduction by Coretta Scott King, is illustrated with well-chosen, precisely captioned black-and-white photos. Ages 10-up.
This book offered some interesting facts that i had never heard before, and followed the life of MLK with good detail, but wasn’t written in a way that compels the reader to continue reading. I selected this because it was a featured audio book but I believe there are more well known works on MLK that may be preferable to this.
This book really helped me on a project and was very easy to read. I thought it explained a lot about Martin's life. This book has some very good facts about Martin Luther.
Martin Luther King Jr. is well known everywhere about being the best Civil Rights Leader ever! Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15,1929 he was a dream at birth.Martin was very smart, by the time he was 15 he was in college already.Martin wanted to be just like his father he belived in God and used "BIG WORDS" as well. Martin went to college to be a paster, but there he found something better he found a woman he happen to fall in love with Ms.Corretta Scott. They happen to fall in love graduated from college and started there on life. They got married and had 4 kids. The time and got so bad that Martin tried to make it better by telling the people that violence is nott the answer. He gave speeches and walked and talked to the people to help them out.On that journy he was thrown in jail a couple of times, stabbed, and much more. As I got to the end of my book I read that the last speech Martin gave his saying touched everyone "Free at last free at last thank god almody im free at last." He won the nobal peace prize and help free most slaves and was assonated because of his jobs well done. That gives a message that everybody is not for you some are hating on you but fulfill your dream and put your hata blockers on and believe in God and help make Martins dream come true you may not belive it but Some are waiting just for us to stand up and be proud and follow your dream.
I was reading this book called Martin Luther King JR.the civil rights leader. This book is about all the achievements that MLK has done for the human race and what he has tried to do so that there can be peace between the causaians and african americans. One thing that they mentioned in here was about MLK's Bus Boycott which was so that us african americans can be seated anywhere on the bus and not being pushed to the back of the bus for the causiaians so they can sit where they want. Marin once said that he had a dream that one day in our nation every black boy and every white girl can be together in peace he had a dream that one day his children could live in a world where there is no race and it is safe for his kids to go to school and be treated the same as everyone else and not special treatment cause they are black. In the beginning of this book for the introduction his wife Coretta Scott King says that really sticks out to me is ("before you begin this book, I hope you will ask yourself what the word excellence means to you. Then she says I think taht its a question we should all ask and keep asking as we grow older and change because the truest answer to it should never change"). That right there is what really stuck out to me is because everything that she said in that what i put in quotes is true because you really do have to think about that and then ask that question as you grow older and some other things too.
