"Case Studies in School Counseling" is a valuable resource to school counselors who are seeking to enhance their program expertise with innovative approaches to facilitate student growth and development. The book contains 22 real cases, dealing with a wide range of issues faced by counselors in today's schools. The book presents cases from elementary, middle, and secondary schools. The organization of the cases provides the reader with a sense of the contributors' environment, the intent of the activity or intervention, and a sequential process for implementing the activity. This was a pretty good mix of stories for elementary, middle and high school case studies (although there were more elementary than anything).
I picked up this book because I wanted to get a feel for what school counseling might actually look like. In that respect I was not disappointed. So many books that I have been encouraged to read for my degree focus on MFT and private practice, I was very happy to get a better sense of schools and a counselor's place in it.
