Often called the crown jewel of Maine, Acadia National Park contains more than 47,000 acres of gorgeous coastal landscapes.

A True Book: National Parks series allows readers to experience spectacular vistas and natural landscapes, as well as interact with the rich tapestry of American History. This series includes an age appropriate (grades 3-5) introduction to curriculum-relevant subjects and a robust resource section that encourages independent study. Readers will learn about its plants, wildlife, and geographic features. They will also discover how the landscapes were formed, when people first arrived in the area, why the land was chosen to be a national park, and more.

48 pages. Well-written book on our national park in Maine. Photos are colorful and helpful. There are sections on native animals and plants. This would be a good book for research project, etc. Highly recommended for Grades 4-5.

I’ve given this book 5*, because it beautifully pictures our 5* experience.

We hiked to see the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse - on the cover!
Arrived on Cadillac Mountain to be among the first people in the US to see the sunrise.
Visited the Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor and learned much about The Native Americans, including the Penobscot, about whom we have been reading in other literature.
Walked, waded, had lunch on Sand Beach.
Hiked down and up the steep rocky incline to see the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.
Listened for the boom of Thunder Hole Sea Cave.
Drove through Somesville with its cute little white houses and viewed Somes Sound.
Hung out in the town of Bar Harbor.
Sadly, did not see a moose.

A great little information packed book about Acadia. I know it’s for kids and I purchased it in Maine thinking I’d give it to my nieces and nephews, but I ended up forgetting and it has lived on my shelf since. I picked it up to actually remember to give them in the near future but ended up flipping through and loved it. Made me miss Acadia!
