The main idea of this book was to describe the festivals of Scotland. The genre of the text is nonfiction.

I would use this text to teach about different cultures of the world and their different festivals. I would have the students sound out words they wouldn't normally understand because the word is from a different culture, for example the name of the festival Up-Helly-Aa.

The author does very well in providing detail and illustrations for the festivals and customs in Scotland. Not only are illustrations provided but several facts with a lot of details for example the details on bagpipes were many. This book will show children how diverse Scotland is especially when it comes to festivals.
