This retelling of Little Black Sambo illustrates the story as it should have been when it was first published in 1899.
This book is part of the Domino Readers collection. These rebus readers encourage young children to learn to read. While the adult reads the words, the child "reads" the pictures. Each book includes a set of twelve detachable cards to help make learning to read a delightful game.
Attractive illustrations, with characters that are clearly good and healthy Indian citizens, make this a thoroughly acceptable version of the controversial, but beloved, Little Black Sambo. The 'cards' make this useful for certain standard programs to teach reading. My favorite version of the tale still remains The Story of Little Babaji as ill. by Fred Marcellino.
