ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

When a charming polar bear cub climbs into bed one night, she asks her Mama a very important question--one that little "human cubs" often wonder about, too: "Where did I come from?"

As Mama bear tucks her youngest cub under the quilts, she gently, tenderly, and reassuringly communicates the message loving parents everywhere (bears and non-bears alike) want their little ones to hear: "We wanted you very, very much, and we are so very glad because--God gave us you."

“Where did I come from?” An innocent question with a complex answer. In God Gave Us You, Little Cub asks this question of her Mama who replies that “God Gave Us You.” Mama goes on to explain that Little Cub was in her tummy, how they prepared for Little Cub's arrival, and how happy they were when Little Cub finally arrived. Colorful illustrations illustrate the classic theme that children are a precious gift from God.

God Gave Us You, written by Lisa Tawn Bergren and illustrated by Laura J. Bryant, is an adorable little book. The edition I received has a hard cover, thick pages and seems like it would be durable. The story is cute and the illustrations enhance the meaning of the story. The theme of the book assures a child that he or she is treasured, loved, and a blessing from God. Children will enjoy the colorful illustrations featuring animals (mostly polar bears) in various situations.

I recommend this book to any parent who is looking for an entertaining book with themes of assurance and love.

My wife, Tanya, and I picked this out together to read to Carter. It was the second book we acquired for our little guy, the first being Goodnight Moon.

Anyway, we'd been rather lax at reading to him, so we did just that last night. As Tanya held him, his eyes and rapt attention never left me as I read it aloud. It is an experience I hope to never forget; not due to the story (which is very similar to ours, BTW,) but simply for the once-in-a-lifetime experience, the bond shared between the three of us. I'll treasure it forever!!!

This book is a sweet story of a mama bear telling her cub how she came to be with her mama and papa. It's almost too sweet, really. It's also probably not the right book for children of single parents or adoptive parents. My little one loved it, though.

An excellent story for monotheistic parents, this book helps capture the miracle of life, what happens to a mother's belly as a child grows, and the value in the birth of a child. This book sparks great conversations and builds a confidence grounded in the child's value to God. This is one of the cutest ways to make your child feel loved with 0% spoiling. I will admit that I would change the "she" in the story to a "he" to read to my son. I wanted him to identify how special the cub was to how special he is. I still tell him "God gave us you" and he will ask "like the polar bear cub?"

Unbelievably cute book... buy it and read to your child often!

I like the message of the story, I just wish that it wasn't expressed that it was a girl cub instead of just 'baby bear' so that it could be for a boy or girl.

This is the first book of the "God Gave Us..." series ~ there is also God Gave Us Two, Heaven, Love, The World (which I wrote a review about), So Much, and Christmas.

For this review, I received the board book which was beautifully illustrated, and beautifully written to answer the question to a little one - where did I come from? It talks about the mama bear being pregnant and how her belly grew bigger and bigger, the ultrasound, how daddy talked to her belly, how they went to the hospital and said how happy they were that "God gave us you".

I would recommend this book for any family - both my daughters just loved reading this with me! It is truly a treasure of a book, and one that you won't find anywhere else! This is definitely a book every new family should own, and one that could be given at baby showers, baby's first birthday and more fun occasions! If you would like to buy this book, you can do so at Amazon.com for as little as $8!

Absolutely delightful! What a wonderful way to answer the inevitable question that every child eventually asks: Where did I come from?

This sturdy children’s board book offers a beautifully illustrated story about a young bear cub who presents that very question to her mother. Mama’s wise, thoughtful answers are sure to build self-esteem and confidence in young listeners and/or readers, as each reply to Little Cub’s numerous queries reinforce the overall answer: You are a treasured gift from God.

God Gave Us You was the first of the charming God Gave Us books that originated in 2000. It now has the honor of being the first of those stories to be offered as a board book. Expertly illustrated animal characters make it attractive to young eyes; it is sized for easy handling by tiny hands; and the thick, board pages make it a sturdy option for less-than-delicate usage by little ones who have yet to learn how to properly handle a book.

Parents and children alike will love God Gave Us You. It’s sure to be a treasured keepsake and a basis for developing self-esteem in many, many curious kids.

LISA TAWN BERGREN'S "GOD GAVE US YOU" (A REVIEW)

This was a beautiful little book meant for ages 0 to 5 years. The story employs the theme of a family of polar bears telling their young cub how she came to be and why they were so blessed by God to have her. A definite must read for any family with children of this age. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is simply adorable.

I really like this book. Because this book was about baby animals who is curious about where they come from. The illustration of this book was very colorful, clear, and normal enough for children to interpret. This book is very diverse from the animal’s perspective because there are several different animals in this story. The Little Cub was a girl and there
weren’t any stereotypes. The kids will love the book because it tells a story about animals and the children will be able to relate to the book as they continue to grow. This book is also suitable for beginner readers.

If you're looking for a sweet religious book to talk to your kids about.... not exactly the birds and the bees... but sort of? this book is for you. A lot of religious books I see that deal with children coming into the world ignore the actual pregnancy... this one certainly doesn't go into detail, but it does say, "You papa and I were alone, and we wanted a baby." Ok, not some angel planted a seed or something. Not too bad. It talks about the baby growing inside her tummy and actually shows a big tummy. (We have a nativity story book that doesn't show Mary pregnant at any point in the book.) It talks about going to the doctor and hearing the heartbeat and how exciting that was and the daddy talking to the baby. It talks about feeling different and "God gives mama bears special signals" causing them to race to the hospital. It talks about the joy of hearing the baby screaming. So it has a lot of nice pieces here to work with to give kids some frame of reference for really littles. I was pleasantly surprised.

One major note-- it talks about turning down the crib sheet and it has LOTS of extra junk in the baby's crib in the illustration. Very not good. And it's... well. I was going to say not that old because it's 2000. But that's nearly 20 years ago already. *sigh*

God Gave Us You is a gentle story about a mother polar bear telling her daughter how much she is loved and valued, because God gave her to their family.

This story is very sweet, showing how Mama Bear gives Little Cub lots of love, thanks, and acceptance. She keeps telling her that she is a special gift from God, and that both she and Papa bear love her deeply.

This special Deluxe Edition comes with a pretty presentation page for writing a gift message, and extra decorated pages at the end for family or friends to add their own notes, letters, or prayers. The hardcover book comes in a special protective slipcase shell.

This faith-based book is a wonderful keepsake that shares how special each child is because they were given by God. It expresses feelings of love, thankfulness, and joy in a beautiful way, and makes a wonderful gift for special occasions!

Strongly recommended!

This is one of those baby books that get me all teared up and emotional. I don’t think that’s an unusual reaction either. As a mom (or dad) reads this story to their child they can’t help but relive their own journey to parenthood. You can’t help but be touched with the sweet, and very familiar, scenario of a child asking where she came from. Mama Bear goes over all the stage: from wanting, celebrating, waiting, preparing, growing, delivering, etc. After each step in the journey, Little Cub asks questions and Mama explains, ending with the consoling phrase, “Because God gave us you”. The repeated phrase wraps the reader in loving comfort and wonder.

Each time I read this book, I find something new I like. Writing this review had me going back through admiring the illustrations. Laura J. Bryant does a beautiful job. I especially like the variety of arctic animals portrayed.

This book does a marvelous job of expressing a parent’s gratitude for the gift of having their child. I love sharing this story with my precious baby. All the warm and fuzzy feelings!

Genre: Fiction
Age: K - 5
Illustrations: I like the pictures in this book they had enough detailed to keep you interested, but not to much to be over whelming.
Gist: This book is about a mother telling it's little cub the story of how they were given her. It goes through all the time that they had to wait and how excited they were to finally have her in their arms. How when they finally had her, she was the most beautiful little cub ever and they wouldn't want any other cub other than her.
Curriculum Connection: You can tie this to how ever kid is loved and wanted by someone no matter who they are.
Warning: There is talk about religion in this book along with babies while they are in a mother stomach.

This was a cute book that my coworker got for my son at my baby shower. It was a mom polar bear answering her little cub’s questions about why he was born, and all answers were rooted in “because God gave you to us.” It was cute, and the pictures were fun. It was a little cringy in how simplified the book discussed the pregnancy and labor/delivery process, but I guess that’s children’s books for ya 😂. It still had nice intention and obviously I agreed with the premise.

Son’s review: he was very actively studying the pictures and seemed invested in the story. He was trying to hold the book at one point, maybe just to eat it. He smiled at one of the pages. I think he enjoys polar bears.

This book was a gift for baby girl, and is actually her first book <3 I can't wait to read it to her when she is born. . . Okay, maybe I have to wait until she is a little older than newborn, but still ;)

This book has beautiful illustrations and a nice message for children emphasizing how children are God's gifts to their parents.

Note: the polar bear cub in the book is a girl - so definitely a slam dunk book for girls, but the book isn't overtly girly. It would be fine for boys too!

God gave us you by Lisa Bergren
Book report by Jacob Fortier
God gave us you is a story about how a baby polar bear and how the he was obtained.
Right before bed, his mom tucked him in and the cub asked how he was obtained, and the mama bear told him the story about it.
The mama bear tells him day by day how exited she was for him to come.

I do not recommend this book because the story just talks about how he was acquired.

This book is one of my daughter's favorites and we read it to her regularly before bed. In a world that is so hostile toward children it is good to remind them that children are a gift. God created them, has a plan for them, and they are loved.

The current reading challenge I'm taking calls for an ECPA best seller... this children's book is one of the few books on that list that is not a hot pile of heretical garbage :)

This is a simplistic book that doesn’t answer any questions about birth beyond a “god gave”. It is a book that panders to the Christian traditional family not any other type of family- adopted, foster, single, alternative. Since it knows it’s audience and is pandering so well I’m sure it will do very well in its niche.
It’s frustrating because it has some very sweet moments it could explore and talk to kids about concepts like love, but instead sticks with everything being God.
