You See, I See: In the City

Rate this book
See the city through the eyes of a child and parent in this heartwarming exploration of a day spent together.

You see a bustling city, I see adventure ahead!

What will you see in the city? It depends on who you ask! As a parent and child visit the newspaper stand, the store, the park, and more, each points out what they can see . . . and their perspectives might surprise you! With spare, rhyming text and a bold limited palette, this simple board book captures the fun and tenderness of exploring new places together, and the joy of seeing the world through a child's eyes.

A long-time standard I keep meaning to buy, because everyone loves it. Rowan's current favorite part is the "BWEDD!" in the bakery window. Kid loves that bwed. It's an adorable little book that's very good at illustrating the differing perspective between child and adult.

This is a really valuable thing for the parent as much as the child. It's sometimes hard for some parents to consider, let alone actually remember, what it was like to see, learn about, and process the world as a little person. But it's really important that we do this. All the time Rowan and I have spent wandering different places and I get the chance to watch Rowan absorb the world in his way makes this book, and its beautifully simple and illuminating treatment, feel even more special. I like it very much.

I enjoyed the illustrations but I would have liked to have seen the a theme in what the adult and a theme in what the child saw.

Good For Kids

Great little book with word learning, humor, and warmth. Kids should love this book with the urban setting and the interesting stuff shown.

My Grandbaby is only 8 months but is already into books, especially flipping the pages, and chewing. This is a board book that satisfied both, especially the latter but to me the illustrations were not bold or big enough to hold the little one’s attention. The story line of a romp through the city would be more suitable for a toddler.
