a good, solid book on the philosophies of creating and running a great company from the creator of Worthington Industries in Worthington, Ohio.

A very straightforward book on the concepts that John H. McConnell found vital to the creation, management and building of a very successful and respected company.

Would have preferred a longer book with more stories as with Sam Walton's book but definitely well worth reading.

This was a great book to read as a start my new role with this company. I enjoyed learning the values that this company was built on and it makes me even happier to be a part of this amazing organization.

As John McConnell says in his book, we live in a time when businessmen are all considered "SOBs." This is a book about business ethics as much as it is about leadership. He presents an exposition of the unique corporate philosophy and values for leadership, recognition and relationship that were used to build Worthington Industries and survive many of the internal and industry struggles that have beleaguered other manufacturing companies. The chapters in this book are short and the dialogue really preserves the original voice of the President. Published in 2004 and telling the story of a man who lead in times decades even before that, the book is written concisely to preserve the meaning and invite timeless application.

I don't usually read books on leadership, but I was asked to read this one for a work seminar and I have to say, this was a thousand times more enjoyable than most books in this genre. It doesn't read like a droning college lecture where you have to fight to stay awake. Instead, this book comes across as more of a personal conversation with your grandfather, if you consider your grandfather to be an expert in his industry and man of strong moral fiber.

Simple leadership skills from a proven leader. I did not really take away anything new. just reinforces the idea that one must value, recognize and listen to all the people in the organization if one wants motivated and productive workers.
