This is a very long and dense scholarly analysis and exegesis of Spinoza's philosophy. Wolfson tries to trace much of the basic concepts of Spinoza from philosophers from the medieval tradition to the neoplatonists from the Greco-Roman period. In doing so Wolfson has provided a very plausible interpretation of Spinoza's philosophy by providing many sources that has similar terminologies or meaning. In my personal opinion, I think Wolfson has made Spinoza's philosophy much more beautiful than I anticipated. I think this is due to the fact that Wolfson dedicated much of his time rigorously analyzing each of Spinoza's context in the light of philosophers who might have influenced Spinoza as well as how Spinoza might have interpreted those philosopher's ideas. If anybody has an in depth interest and passion to understand Spinoza better, I recommend this book...It is truly an epitome of standard scholarship in the history of philosophy.
