It was nice for a debut.
Hero is not a manwhore
I liked the heroine (yes I know, SHOCKING). She was strong and sassy but she had her moments when she met the hero for the first time she went gaga over him but at least I didn't have to read how wet her panties were.
"If there's one thing my Grams has taught me, it's that from shit, flowers grow. So, y'all can sit back and watch me fucking blossom."
What I didn't like was the hero's brother giving him advice about the heroine, I honestly don't know how he's been married for 8 years.
I liked the heroine's friends, they were was supportive and was always there for her.
Overall I didn't expect to like it but I'm glad I did.

So at the beginning, the hero Cash learns his girlfriend cheated on him. His girlfriend of 7 years, who he has been living with for 3 and dreaming about raising kids with her. He learns that she's leaving him and getting married to the other man. He cries.
“I drop my head into my hands to hide the tears trailing down my cheeks. “Just go.”
I like heroes crying, but over the right woman. I'm not a fan of that emotional involvement to that extent with OW. Vulnerable heroes I like, yes but not crying over another women. That behaviour should be reserved for the HEROINE. Even if he doesn't know her yet.
So he moves away into a different town. Pretty big move if you ask me. Him and the heroine meet, and have instant sparks. She's pregnant with the local asshat's baby. Hero accepts the child. They have some hiccups and blunders and then drama where the hero thinks she's cheating on him with so called asshat.

I pretty much threw in the towel at page 298.
The antagonist pretty much summed it up for you:
“Yeah, so much of a man that he ran off, leaving her all alone, with me.” Turning my way, Taylor drops down to his haunches and grips my chin, forcing me to look at him. “Guess he’s just not that into you,”
If the antagonist was raping the heroine the H left her to be raped, as he has zero faith on her while he KNEW all she felt was contempt and fear for this little shit, and this is his third mess up.
Also NO ONE apart from the antagonist paid attention to this. H didn’t even feel sorry for a single minute for abandoning the h.
Yeah, nah. The 1 Star was too generous!

Let’s be real, I picked this book because of the cover. I go crazy over pregnant women in romance books. Is the cover slightly misleading? Yes. She’s not that pregnant in the book, but she does eventually get that pregnant. I wanted the big belly, but regardless she was pregnant in the book. Also, the cover kind of alludes to a dramatic book (it looks serious to me) but the book isn’t serious, it’s not humorous, just kind of tame.
Coming Up Roses is a typical book. There’s nothing special about it, but that’s okay. Sometimes I love these kind of reads. They are mindless and help me out when I’m between the hard ones. Overall, it was a decent debut book. I have low expectations for new authors and I can see this one getting better and better.
The book started out great. I enjoyed the writing style and I liked how easily it flowed. I prefer a more informal writing style and this one jived with me. I also liked the pacing for the first half of the book. I felt like it went quickly and that is totally my jam.
The book started to go downhill after the first half of the book.
I found the 50-70% mark BORING AS FUCK. Gah I hate to curse and say but it’s true. I didn’t care about Cash and Rose going on a date with his nephews. I didn’t care to read her cutting his nephew’s hair. Where is the action? Where is the sexual tension?
I think I was annoyed because I felt like the first half of the book had so much sexual tension and then the second half everything fell flat. I felt like the author created this major build up with all of the tension and then when it came to implode, it just deflated slowly like a limp penis.
I didn’t care for the side characters. I didn’t care for the filler chapters that just made the book longer. I wanted to see where the relationship between Cash and Myla would go.
I also got annoyed by the typical villains of the book, you know, the ex and the ex’s mother. Are they for real? Who talks like that?
I’m not giving anything away because this happens within the first chapter, but who tells someone they are pregnant and then says (paraphrasing) “well, this was fun, but it’s not fun anymore, so let’s break up?” I’m like seriously? Even the guy was an asshole that wouldn’t be a typical reaction. I guess this was ex-book-boyfriend reaction. I let that slide, but it kind of irritated me. I felt like the villain could have been played up differently, maybe something more realistic.
Towards the end of the book there was too much angst for my taste and not needed drama. The lies and omission of truth was just so typical and I eye rolled. I wanted something else.
ANYHOW, there were parts of the book I enjoyed and there were things I picked at and in the end I was just picking at them. It’s a very decent book for a first time author.

Oh, my stars! I adored this southern romance! It's hard to believe this is a debut novel, because it's so well written.
The story was really sweet and I loved that Myla Rose could count on such an incredible group of supportive friends. Cash is a hero like no other, who doesn't run away and steps in to take responsibility. The only thing I wanted more of was a bit of a background on how Myla and Azalea were able to open up a salon at such a young age.

Coming Up Roses is such a sweet book and really well written from a debut author!
Both Cash and Myla Rose got the short end of the stick from their past relationships, quite honestly, I wanted to throat punch both of their exes... but they are fictional characters, so obviously I couldn't follow through. Cash's ex is cold hearted and Myla Rose's ex is a total douche.
"If there's one thing my Grams has taught me, it's that from s**t, flowers grow. So, y'all can sit back and watch me f*****g blossom."
Myla may not have been where she thought she would be in life, but she makes the best of the lemons that that life has handed her. She also has a strong support system in her friends, Azalea, Simon and Drake. I loved their friendships and loved how they had her back and pushed her when she was being stubborn.
"I think the right man will love you and your child. Don't assume you'll be alone, Myla Rose, and don't settle for settle for anything less than you deserve."
Cash Carson is one dreamy man, one that every single mom would love to have for themselves. He may have been obstinate at times, but with good reason. I may have wanted to thump him in the forehead a time or two, but really... he's a man so that's to be expected.
This book truly is a Southern Fairytale, with the villains and everything else that comes with it. Myla Rose and Cash's story is charming and filled with love, loss and grand gestures. If you are looking for a story that will leave a smile on your face and your heart warm, then this is the story for you.

Myla Rose is the kind of heroine that could have easily driven me nuts - she's young, somewhat naive, and way too optimistic at times - but instead of bothering me, those qualities actually endeared her to me.
LK Farlow has a clear, relaxed (real) storytelling style that swept me up & kept me reading (even when I was supposed to be working). A great debut - I look forward to more!

This is the first time I have read a book by this author. She's amazing. I couldn't put it down. Her books are very funny and with just the right amount of sassyness. And all that southern charm. What more do you want? Oh sexy men of course.. I plan on reading more of her books. She has become one of my favorite authors.

I can't believe this is a debut novel. I love the sweet southern style that LK writes.
She brings Cash and Rose to life. Not just them but there whole group if friends. There is just something about a country setting that draws me in.
Cash is an almost flawless guy who finds something so sweet because he wasn't looking. Rose is a tough cookie who is going to get things done regardless of the obstacles life has thrown as her. I mean after all that's what her Grams taught her.
I can't wait to see what comes up next at Southern Roots.

This was a good debut story. A sweet, southern, contemporary romance that I blew through in less than a day because it was quite the page turner.
Both Cash and Myla Rose drew me in with their sad starts. But as the story progressed and the two met and I saw more of their personalities and heart, I was hooked. Cash was the kind of guy stories are meant to be written about. He was so supportive of Myla Rose. Being there for her even in moments she didn't ask for and just being a good guy at his roots. Myla Rose was just one of those characters that you can't help but want good things for. She has been through so much and still is going through things all throughout the story. They were both just great characters.
This story was full of good friends, sad pasts to overcome, impending parenthood, and a sweet romance to get wrapped up in. There were misunderstandings to work through and walls to break down. It certainly didn't feel like a debut story, but it was so well done that I will be on the look out for more by this author in future.

LK Farlow’s debut novel, Coming Up Roses, Southern Roots #1, is a small town romance that will have you looking for your next fix of sugar after finishing because it’s that sweet.
Myla Rose is a southern girl through and through. Abandoned by her Mother and brought up by her Grams, she takes life head on. So, when she finds herself pregnant by a truly conceited, entitled jerk, she does what she has to. She moves forward with the knowledge that she will be a single mother.
Cash has had his share of woman trouble and is not looking for anything or anyone new in his life. A run in with Myla at the Piggly Wiggly has him rethinking that stance. Cash is a true southern gentleman and will make your heart beat a little faster and have you fanning yourself saying “Oh my”.
Reading about Myla and Cash’s journey was heartwarming and humorous. Helping the story along are friends of each that are examples of true southern men and women.
Ms. Farlow’s writing is creative and true. Her character development was outstanding. This is a debut novel that will be recommended over and over again. I can’t wait for the next installment of this series.

Cash is sooo sweet he made my tooth ache. He has all these smooth words and is truly a prince. Yes he had his jerk moment, but deep down he followed his heart.
Myla Rose was hard core! When she finds out she's pregnant she puts her big girl panties on and does what she needs to and I really loved her spirit.
I loved the plot. It was wholesome but at the same time it gave all the feel. The author did a great job and channeling both characters and what they go through in this book. Her writing is as she has been writing for year.
Overall, I loved it. I can't wait to see what she writes next but LK is definitely going on my to watch author list! 5 stars #2OCCJD

There are some books that remind me that I have been a southerner my entire life. Born and raised in the South, I can't help but love these books that use the very sayings that I grew up hearing.
"Believe you me" had to be the one thing said in this book that I just couldn't get enough of. Seem silly? Probably. But when you haven't heard that little phrase in years, it feels a bit nostalgic. It's something my grandmother always said. "Believe you me."
Probably sounds silly if you aren't from the South. But OMG! Let's just say that I found Coming Up Roses to be a soft, southern piece of fresh air. Light romance, heavy hearts, big love. It's all here.
LK Farlow shocked me with her ability to capture the south so perfectly. The ridiculous heat, the sayings, the small town life. It's all here.
Cash Carson. Man, I don't know what it is about this name, but I freaking love it. Cash. Yep, I sense a small tribute to the master, Johnny right here. And if it's not, that's a nod well wasted. Then again, Johnny Cash. Johnny Carson. I'm liking the combo here. But I digress. I'm all over the place in this review. Probably because I just loved hearing and reading Cash Carson throughout the entire book.
Then there's Myla Rose. I can't even think it without my accent coming out. Myla Rose hasn't had the best of luck with men. Or man, I should say. Long time crush, Taylor, is the guy she should have never given the time of day, but did anyway.
And he's left her knocked up and alone because he thinks he's better than her.
Idiot.

His ex is a real treat as well. Sarcasm, in case you missed it. But his ex really did a number on him and he's trying to recover.
Watch these two grow together as they explore their feelings for each other. It's a sweet story of two people afraid to dive back in to the dating pool, but who dive anyway.

2.5-3 stars. Both Cash Carson and Myla Rose McGraw have been scorned in the past regarding love. So even though there's no doubt there are sparks between them (which felt very insta-love), neither of them are eager to jump on it and test it out. Myla is pregnant and getting ready for the baby, knowing that a guy isn't necessarily going to want to be in a relationship with her given that there's a child in the picture. I liked the overall premise of the book. But when it came to reading it, I really struggled with this story. It's incredibly southern, like Myla and her best friend Azalea have thick southern accents, complete with southern sayings. I wasn't a big fan of the push and pull dynamic between Carson and Myla, where he'd act interested in her and then run out on her. It was confusing and immature. Then again, I already found Carson to be off putting due to his man tears in the beginning of the story due to discovering his now ex's betrayal. As for Myla's baby daddy and his mother, I don't understand how they could get away with being so mean and nasty and how she simply put up with it. There were multiple things that just didn't add up where they made any sense if it were a real life situation, and seemed more of a plot device than anything, to enhance drama.

I could not get over the fact that our leading man Cash, fell for a pregnant woman. Ugh, I know. I kept reading hoping to understand it more, but I just didn't.
Cash is reeling from a bad breakup and heading back home to nurse his wounds. He's a good guy that is at the age to finally settle down. Or at least that's what he thought before his heart was ripped out of his chest by his ex. Now he is confused about women and what his next move should be.
Like Cash, Myla has just had her heart stomped on and the stomper is still right in her face to make things worse. Along with the falling for a pregnant woman thing, I found Myla's relationship with the baby daddy's family extremely odd, however I digress. Myla is a smart girl, stands on her own two feet and is bound and determined to make a good life for her and her baby. She doesn't need a man to make her complete, but Cash is persistent.
The book is well written with a southern twang that also isn't my cup of tea. The darlin's and baby's got to be a bit too much. As hard as I tried, I couldn't get into the story of Myla and Cash.

I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about this book from book friends and I’m happy to report this book was a hit for me. Especially since my last two books were just okay. So let's get the show on the road. I really loved how Myla was such a strong woman despite the crappy hand she has been dealt her whole life. She had a very positive, no crying over spilled milk, take charge attitude. Myla turned her situation around and I had a lot of respect for her while I read this story. We also have Cash who is dealing with a horrible betrayal and has sworn off women after his cheating ex girlfriend. I have to say I loved how sweet Cash was to Myla and took care of her even though she didn’t want his help. He was sweet, supportive and very protective. Cash was also uplifting when it came to Myla, he didn’t make her feel less than and that was another plus in my book. Cash and Myla also took things slowed which I loved as well. Nothing like a sweet, slow burn to get my book heart pumping. As the book progresses you can’t but fall for Cash and hope Myla will get her happily ever after. As expected there was some drama that I knew was coming. I just wish the characters would have communicated better and this all would have been avoided but I loved how the drama wasn’t stretched out and it felt believable. Throughout the story we are introduced to Myla’s tribe. I loved them all! Her best friend, Azalea was such good friend and gave it to her straight when she needed it. Myla also has two close male friends Simon and Drake who are very protective of her as well and treat her like a sister. While I read I felt like I was one of the bunch. I love when an author can transport me into a book with their words. Not going to lie the word darlin’ was a little overused at times but it's the South so it makes sense. Overall, I was very impressed with this debut book by Farlow and I can’t wait to read more books by this author.

I'm a sucker for a pregnancy book, so this one captured my attention when I came across it. So, I dove in, not knowing what I'd get.
This was a good book. Well written, no glaring typos or anything. For a debut author, this is a good start. What would I like to see in the next book? I'd like to see a tighter, more concise book. Being that this book is set in the South and the author writes like WE speak, the prose can get longwinded. Farlow has the ability to express her characters well without so much inner monologue, she just needs to tame it a bit.
Sexytimes. Either go there and go big or don't or write a closed door with build up. There was plenty of groping and feeling up and I was surprised when the first sex scene came along and it was really short and kind of ended abruptly. If you're going to write those scenes, lead your reader along, make them feel what is happening. I have no doubt that this author has the skill to write a better sex scene but something like that does take time to develop.
Would I read more by this author? Yes, I would. Her characters were fun and interesting and very funny. I'd also like to see how her skill develops!

So this is LK Farlow's first novel. I have to say that it's right on track with most author's first books. It has a great foundation; the story is interesting and has great potential. I have to be honest in saying that the writing isn't all there. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad at all...it just means that it'll get better!
I think that she was trying to go for an "alpha male" with Cash but I just wasn't completely feeling it. It reminded me of Aurora Rose Reynolds... all her heroes are 110% alpha male and insta-love/lust. But for me it wasn't there in the whole package with Cash. With ARR, I felt it throughout...the lust and interest was strong and complete. That all-consuming passion almost seemed a little lacking between Myla Rose and Cash.
I am definitely interested in reading more from LK because I really think her writing style will come around. I'm looking forward to watch her success!

Good first book
I really enjoyed this book. The author had me not wanting to put it down. Cash what a dream guy. What his ex did to him was terrible but a love from a good woman can change everything. I loved the secondary characters as well. I am looking forward to more from this author.

The family you choose sometimes means more than blood
I may be working my way backwards but I loved the story of Myla Rose & Cash. So sweet, tender, funny, touching, passionate. He comes to Dogwood thinking his heart's broken but he meets his true heart. Myla Rose feels like everyone leaves her. Cash is here to stay.

***Short and Sweet review***
Coming Up Roses is the first novel in the Southern Roots series. What a way to start a series and what a way for L.K. Farlow to start her writing career! I loved the way this novel flowed effortlessly.
Myla Rose is pregnant...with her douche of an ex's baby. When she first found out, she had dreams of white picket fences and the perfect family. Those dreams where quick to shatter when her baby daddy decided he wanted nothing to do with her baby.
Cash Carson just had his heart torn out of his chest. He had the roses, the candles, and the ring. All he needed was the woman to say yes. His dreams came to an end when he finds his girl in bed with another man. Now Cash is back home and healing his broken heart.
My favorite part of this novel was the first meeting between Myla Rose and Cash! I immediately felt the sparks and I Immediately wanted them to be together. These two are adorably sexy.
I cannot wait to read more from L.K. Farlow in the future! I have a great feeling that she will become one of my favorite authors!

I loved everything about this book. The main character, Myla Rose, was absofuckinglutely amazing. She was a strong independent woman and sassy as fuck. I loved her and I really liked how Cash swept her off her feet. Because Taylor is a complete douche bag and so is his mother.
Cash was the perfect southern gentleman. Him and Myla definitely deserved each other.

Coming Up Roses is an unusual story where a young woman tells her boyfriend she's pregnant and he tells her he doesn't want her or the baby. Ok, not so unusual yet. She decided she would raise the baby on her own. She doesn't need a man. I liked how she was going to handle it herself. And she had lots of great friends who had her back. She doesn't want anything to do with the new man in town who is enamored with her and wants to help her any way he can.
This is a sweet romance with some spice and great characters. Some you wanted to hug and some you wanted to slap upside the head. I loved this young woman and was hoping everything would work out for her. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like sweet romances with a few chuckles and a bit of spice.

This was a very enjoyable book! I absolutely loved the characters- main and supporting- and the plot was wonderful! Myla Rose and Cash are perfect for each other, despite the fact that they (mainly Cash) keep messing up (ok, they have a few misunderstandings). I'm not usually a fan of Instagram-love, and while they fell quickly, they managed to find the good in each other.
I had two little concerns, neither of which would have stopped me from reading: one was that the ending seemed a bit rushed. I think I would have preferred to get more from later in the pregnancy as well as Myla and Cash's courtship. And maybe the second will be addressed in another book, but I would have liked to see something happen with Dr. Mills and his family.
Overall, this was a great read and I would most definitely recommend this! I hope the next book follows Drake and Azalea!
