Khan is an arrogant rock star and weretiger who has no memory of his past before ten years ago. When he sees Sarange, he knows instantly that she is his mate and also a wolf-shifter, though she has no idea. They are drawn together because of outside forces that want to kidnap Sarange, so Khan makes it his goal to protect her. As they spend more time together, past life memories begin to emerge and they learn that their pasts were inextricably linked and that they are destined for great things together.

First of all, I really like that we have a Mongolian heroine and a lot of our action taking place in the country of Mongolia. Overall, it is a nationality and setting that is quite underrepresented in romance. I liked learning more about it. Also, just to be clear, the blurb is a bit misleading. Once the Khan and Sarange accept that they're mates, there is absolutely no tension or question of them spending the rest of their lives together. So, this is a suspense PNR that doesn't have any relationship angst - I'm totally fine with that when the suspense plot is strong enough, which I felt this one was, but if you're looking for angsty goodness, this might not deliver. In fact, Khan and Sarange have a strong and passionate love - the kind that has them understanding each other without discussion and has them supporting one another without question. I really like this kind of relationship. As I said, a good suspense plot with a mysterious villain and a subtle sort of suspense regarding Khan's past...I was reading to find out about that too (too bad it was kind of underwhelming in the end).

Although I liked this story, it was brought down by quite a few extraneous happenings, inconsistencies and redundancies. The first is the fact that Khan starts out absolutely resisting Sarange - they hate each other to start. Maybe this was to provide a bit of drama in the beginning, but it largely had no play on the rest of the story. Khan makes an abrupt decision to accept Sarange, suddenly loves her more than life itself and all that hate stuff was pretty much never mentioned again. Then he reveals that he’s a shifter and it’s a big shock to her. Later, Sarange goes home to talk to her uncle who starts talking about werewolves and what not as though this had always been common knowledge. And Sarange was never like, “Wait, why didn’t you tell me this stuff before?” I feel like that was a pretty big oversight.

Also, it’s established pretty early on that shifters can sense other shifters. Everybody and their brother knows that Sarange is a wolf shifter, except for her. So how is it that NOBODY cottoned on to the fact that Bora (and his alteregos) was a shifter? Our villain met with Khan, Ged, and Jiran and not one of them sensed it. And unfortunately, this is never addressed. Another inconsistency has to do with Sarange’s pregnancy...There was an actual conversation before Khan and Sarange had unprotected sex in which he tells her that she cannot get pregnant outside of the “mating season” so she won’t get pregnant. But then she does get pregnant from their unprotected sex. And it’s never explained if that was a fluke or whether they ended up sexing right through a mating season. Or maybe Khan lied. Who knows?

Finally, and this is less on the author and more on the editor, but in the first part of the book, when Khan reveals he’s a shifter, he explains to Sarange how some people can be converted by a bite. Then, later in the book, when Khan learns that he’d been converted by a bite as a child, Sarange asks what that means. Then he explains it all over again. This was a bit jarring for me because I immediately had to go back and see if I’d imagined the first conversation (I didn’t). I feel like all these oversights got in the way of a pretty smooth and enjoyable story. I still liked it, but these sort of dimmed the experience a bit.

I love a good shapeshifter story and this one ticked all of the boxes for very good, this story has everything that a great romance should have a very sexy gorgeous hero Khan who is a tiger shifter and yes opposites attract a very strong gorgeous Sarange who is a wolf shifter, Khan is a rock star and Sarange a singer and when they first meet in a fundraising concert for animal protection the sparks fly and the attraction is instant Khan senses the wolf shifter in Sarange but she has no idea that she is a wolf.

Khan is a member of the rock band Beast, all members are shape shifters and he has no memory of his past before the bands manager Ged had rescued him from a cage, he has a reputation for being arrogant and different but when he meets Sarange this spark between them opens up feelings and emotions in him from his past and the feeling that she is in danger draws him closer he is not walking away from her he needs to get to know her much better.

Sarange has been bought up for the most part in America by close family, her heritage is Mongolian and she has always felt that there is more from her past that she does not know about, Sarange is passionate about animals and does all she can to save endangered animals and for some reason she is being drawn towards the blue wolves of Mongolia. She has heard all about Khan and never imagines the heat that hits her when they first meet, she is pulled towards him in such a sensual way, and there is such a link she also needs to get to know him.

They are pulled together when danger lurks and Khan’s protective instincts kick in, the journey for Sarange to finding her footing as a wolf and learning about her past and the link that draws them further together is just amazingly beautiful, this is a beautiful emotional story so moving. Khan wow what a hero, learning about his past finally and together slaying the bad guys, there is action aplenty and a gorgeous sensual romance this one left me smiling and I do hope we get some more stories from the band members, thank you MS Godman I loved it and highly recommend this one.

Electrifying chemistry! I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a typical reader of shifter/werewolf books, but the rock star bad boy sold me! The early excitement of the book was attention grabbing and kept me turning page after page to see where it all would lead, whether they would find a way to be together, and why they felt so connected. The characters were easy to like and follow into their forever after, and the plot was intriguing. I would have liked to see the rock star portion carry forward more throughout the story, but overall it was an entertaining read!

Sexy rock star Khan is on top of the world on the road with his band, but all that he thought he wanted in life is blown away when he sees her. She's gorgeous, assured and more talented that he ever imagined possible. He can't imagine walking away without having her ... if only they weren't polar opposites!

Singer/songwriter Sarange Tsedev is thankful to Khan for the work he's done to help out her non-profit fundraiser, but she can't believe how arrogant he is. He's stalking around her like he owns her! She wishes she could ignore him the way anyone in her right mind would do .. if only she didn't feel like she was drawn to him! When danger comes knocking and secret truths are revealed, she is shocked to learn that not only is she a werewolf, but Khan is a shifter tiger and she shouldn't want him .. but she does ... and when the past collides with the future, they'll understand their calling more clearly!

AWAKENING THE SHIFTER by Jane Godman
Wrote for Harlequin Nocturne

The concert started the whole story and what followed after. It was a concert with Khan (who is a tiger shifter) and Sarange (who is a wolf shifter) who are meeting but it is not the first time these 2 have met. They do not totally realize what is in store for them as you realize that a tiger and wolf should not be attracted to each other. But that beginning was started years and years ago.
The totally sexy rock star Khan is with his band Beast and he is at the top of the world, however one look at Sarange and he is blown away by her beauty and talent and the pull to her is very strong.
The singer/songwriter Sarange Tsedev is so very thankful for the work that Khan has done for her non-profit fundraiser. But she thought of his as arrogant. He strutted around her like he felt he owned her!
These 2 seemed like a perfect story to be told. These 2 were to be actually destined to be mates for life.

The rich, detailed plot in Awakening the Shifter by Jane Godman is a compelling page-turner. Nuanced characters who command the page take you on a brilliant adventure of self-discovery and character growth. Khan and Sarange are strong, independent and beautiful people in their imperfect ways. The emotions run deep with these two and the fight for what they believe in makes this story interesting. I really loved the storyline. It is fast-paced and genuine. The writing is beautiful and vivid. In summary, Awakening the Shifter is the perfect escape read and well worth the time!
