Former lawyer Nicole Fitzhenry-Dawes knows she’ll eventually have to either remove the former from in front of lawyer or embrace a new life making maple syrup full-time.
Problem is, she’s not sure she’s cut out for either.
When the museum curator who helped her find a replacement antique sap bucket is accused of murdering one of his employees, Nicole agrees to take the case as a way to decide at last which career path she’ll follow. If she can’t successfully argue his case in court, she’ll resign from a legal career for good.
Unfortunately, the case turns out to be one of the most challenging she’s faced—from rare fatal diseases to a client whose defense is that he hallucinated a bear.
The deeper she gets into the case, the more it seems everyone has a secret to keep.
And secrets are seldom sweet…
Bucket List is the eighth book in Emily James’ Maple Syrup Mysteries. If you love small-town settings, quirky characters, and a dollop of romance, then you’ll want to buy this amateur sleuth mystery series today!
This book is a "clean" read and contains no swearing, gore, or steamy bedroom scenes. While the series is best enjoyed in order, each book is a complete mystery on its own.
This is well written and has a very complicated plot. Nicole is facing defending a friend accused of murder. Her investigating skills are in full mode as she works on proving the defendant to be not guilty at the same time he was being framed. With a stunning conclusion both Nicole and her defendant find out what their future has in store. This is an awesome, elaborately written that is a truly enjoyable read.
As Nicole Fitzhenry-Dawes wedding day draws nearer, she must decide upon which career she wants to pursue. As an attorney (working only for innocent clients,) or becoming more active in the Sugar Maple Farm she inherited co-ownership from her Uncle.
The two possible careers overlap as a curator seeks Nicole's help in a murder case. Fellow attorney Anderson is offering Nicole a partnership in his small firm and this current case seems a great way to decide the issue.
The defense? Fatal Insomnia. Now, this caught my interest and taught me about a disorder I had never thought of even though I have insomnia. I was fascinated. This novel featured Nicole and I did miss some of the character 'friends' I have made throughout the series. Story was well written and the ending was solid.
This series is drawing near to it's end, per the Author. I'm going to greatly miss the humor and interesting characters. I'm hoping that some of them pop up in a new creative cozy murder series. Enjoy them while they are in print.
A plot that shows how much we rely on the medical profession ad frankly a bit scary because of that. A phone call to tell her that the last object she needed for her historical display had been located lifted her but when the caller asked to retain her services she soon crashed to earth. The caller is the head of the local museum and he believes that he will shortly be charged with murder. As too wet her he did it or not he can't say - he simply cannot remember. Illness has caused him to start hallucinating and the pills no longer seem to work. This also pulls her mind to Russ, he's been acting worried and when pressed admits that he's been told in no uncertain terms that his health isn't the best. Old grudges and murder are mixed into a read that has an explosive outcome to the final revelation. But will this clear her client?
I have read seven and eight of this series and now I am going to start with book one. I enjoy mysteries and I have followed series written about lawyers. This series has a strong female character who is struggling with whether to continue a law career when she fumbles with the court presentation. This book drags her back to representing an acquaintance of her's who possibly committed a murder. There is a mystery to solve and secrets to uncover. Well written and well edited. I also enjoy that this was not peppered with unnecessary sex scenes and trash talk. TY
This series just gets better and better! Nikki grows with each installment. There is a morally chaste element that I really appreciate that isn't corny or preachy. I have thoroughly enjoyed each book. I can't wait for End Of The Line to find our what happens with the corruption investigation, the wedding and see how the series is wrapped up.
I look forward the Emily James new series. I will be first in line to pre-order my copy!
I enjoyed reading this. It is a bit lightweight, but the characters are engaging and after eight books I am even beginning to care about them. The mystery was fluffy, but I didn't figure out who did it until close to the end. If you've liked the others, you will live this one, and it will work moderately well as a stand alone
Another great installment of the Maple Syrup mysteries. Lots of twists in the latest murder for lawyer Nicole Fitzhenry-Dawes to figure out. And she does it, sometimes putting her life on the line, or at least her fear of spiders.
I have the sequel and final book of the series, End of the Line, queued up on my Kindle.
This is a fun series, and it's interesting to watch Nikki discovering whether she wants to be a maple syrup producer or a lawyer. I actually figured out "whodunnit" in this one, although of course not all the angles. Another good read.
Another great story! The plot had just enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end. I love all the characters, both old and new. I can't wait to read the next book!
