Cathy Guisewite

Her main cartoon character (Cathy) is a career woman faced with the issues and challenges of work, relationships, her mother and food, or as Guisewite herself put it in one of her strips, "The four basic guilt groups."
Guisewite was born in Dayton, Ohio and grew up in Midland, Michigan. She attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. Guisewite received her bachelor's degree in English in 1972. She also holds seven honorary degrees.
In 1993, Guisewite received the Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year from the National Cartoonists Society. In 1987, she received an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program for the TV special Cathy, which aired on CBS. Guisewite was a frequent guest in the latter years of the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Guisewite and her husband Chris Wilkinson reside in Los Angeles. She has a daughter and a stepson.

After reading her new book, I was inspired to go back and reread some of her cartoon collections. Cathy got me through my 20's!

They dated for 27 years, two months, three weeks, and one day.
She was devoted, he was a pig.
She became enlightened, he remained oblivious.
She aspired to "goddes", he clung to "king".
She walked, he wooed her back.
She came back, he ran away.
She studied books, tapes, and astrological charts to understand him.
He watched sports.
She went to workshops, retreats, physics, seminars, and shrinks.
He took up golf.
....
Behind the scenes, they fell in love.
Between the strips, there remained something unsettled.
Until finally, after 27 years, two months, three weeks, and one day they were for the very first time, in the very exact same place at the exact same time:
completely, utterly, with all their hearts, ready to give up.

Ehh Cathy is my favorite pick me but I’m still So happy for her..:::: she waited too damn long dealing with Irvin bullsh**t but atleast she got what she wanted .... I remember reading these comic strips as a kid and watching the cartoon not fully understanding it but still liking to read / watch it . It’s better reading it as an adult because I can understand it ..... this definitely something all women should read so they don’t waste 27 years on and off waiting for their mr right ....

There is not too much to be said about this book, except it is wonderful if you are a fan of "Cathy." Learn how Cathy and Irving finally get to the ring, plan the wedding, and how America's favorite single girl finally says "I do' to the man she could never quite stay away from. Funny, real, and full of poignant moments, I must recommend this book to all fans of the classic comic strip!

Como todos os livros da Cathy que já li achei engraçado e consigo imaginar-me em algumas das situações caricatas que são descritas. São livros que de vez em quando gosto de pegar neles e ler algumas "tiras" ao acaso.
A estrutura deste foi diferente. Começa com uma das muitas ruturas entre a Cathy e o Irving, o pedido de casamento, os preparativos e o casamento em si. Depois passa por um pouco da lua-de-mel e depois, surpreendentemente volta atrás no tempo ao inicio da história dos noivos, como se conheceram, as fases porque passaram e como cresceram (juntos e separados) até ao culminar que nos leva ao inicio do livro. Gostei do circulo que a Cathy conseguiu construir com a história, interessante e diferente.

I originally read this book a couple of years before I got engaged. I liked it and I thought it was great that Cathy got married after 27 years of being single. Then, when I finally got engaged myself, I read the book again and loved it! I could relate to so many of the things Cathy went through in planning her wedding. It really spiced up the comic strip for a few years.
