Meredith Still was the love of my life. My dream girl.
Gabe Wilde was my protector. My knight in shining armor.
We had our future planned out-together-down to the names of our unborn children. Everything was going according to plan, until it wasn't.
Sometimes life happens that way.
When I left for college, I never thought I'd be back home for anything longer than a visit. Too many ghosts reminding me of the girl who got away.
By the time I left for college, my heart was broken, and I was sure I would never feel love like that again. I wasn't sure I even wanted to.
After Pop was killed in a car accident I had to come home. Now, after being back for so long, I can't help but wonder what could have been if I hadn't been in such a hurry to leave.
Coming home to start over again at thirty-five, well, it wasn't exactly part of my plan. But Imagine my surprise when I run into the one and only Gabe Wilde.

Claiming What is Mine was an amazing second chance romance that I absolutely loved reading. I loved the storyline of these characters who were once in love but went their separate ways reconnecting with each other decades later. I would love the family aspect of this story as well and the relationship between the brothers as well.
Meredith is a strong female character that has made a massive change in her life deciding to move back to her home town. I really enjoyed the way that she had the strength to change her life around when she realised that she wasn’t happy. I really loved the relationship that she had with Gabe and his family.
I loved loved love Gabe and the way that he knew that Meredith was the missing piece in his life. I loved the way that he did things to try to make her happy and the way that he put his family first.
Gabe and Meredith were high school sweethearts that thought they would spend the rest of their lives together. However, once high school finished they went their separate ways, until Meredith returns home and discover the spark is still there between them.
I was drawn into this story form the very start and wanted to know what was going to happen. I really enjoyed the writing style of the author and the way that the author did dual pov because I felt like I was able to connect to the story. I really enjoyed the Wilde boys and can’t wait to read more about them. This is a book that I definitely recommend to read.
This was a exciting, honest and real romance that pulls at the heart strings and leaves you breathless. A heartwarming journey for two people who where always meant to be but somehow got lost along the way to happily ever after. Love second chances!
Gabe Wilde is the sexy, sweet, charming all American kinda guy from a small town that had his future all set until life throws a few curve balls his way. (as it likes to do) Meredith Still was the love of his life sweet, sexy and now back home at Thirty-five to start life over again never expecting to have to deal with her feelings for Gabe again. I would recommend this highly entertaining, thrilling and engaging second chance romance to anyone that loves love.
Gabe and Meredith were high school sweethearts, madly in love with their whole future planned. Until they weren't. Gabe left for college and things fell apart. Meredith moved away, got married then divorced, and has moved back to her parents' home. Gabe realizes the mistakes he made with Meredith when he was young, cocky and arrogant. When he sees her at his brother's wedding, he realizes this is his second chance, and is determined to not let her get away again.
The idea of a husband and wife writing team appealed to me, so when I had the chance to read an advance copy of this book I decided to give them a try. There were elements of the story that really appealed to me: small town, second chance, cowboys and a part of a series. The storyline was interesting and kept my attention. For the most part, it kept moving and didn’t get bogged down with too much character introspection.
I really liked Gabe's character. It was clear his heart was beating for Meredith and he would do anything for her. I was surprised at how cocky he still was even after knowing he had ruined his chance with Meredith, however. I’m not sure if it was meant more as a humorous element or if it was truly a part of his character. I liked Meredith's character up until the point she turned into a crazy person. I can’t say more without a spoiler, but she went off the deep end, getting mad over something she misunderstood. Honestly, this soured her for me and I really never got over it.
The writing was good and the characters, Wilde brothers especially, are realistic, larger than life, and had me chuckling a time or two. Editing was decent and proofreading was passable, although it’s rare my brain doesn’t spot a typo or two. This book was fairly entertaining and a decent way to pass time, although I never fell in love with the characters. Take my comments with a grain of salt, because your experience may be completely different than mine.

Claiming What Is Mine is the title of the book but is also exactly what the book is about. Its new and refreshing and a real page turner. It kept my attention the whole time I was reading, once I started reading I could not stop. It was so raw and so real, and so so romantic. Gabe had my heart from the first page, and he kept it the whole entire book. He was also quite hilarious, and went after what he wanted.
Gabe is your All-American go getter. He was a popular guy in high school who had dreams and aspirations, and was willing to do anything to make them come true. He had the girl of his dreams, an amazing future planned out until life through a couple of curve balls at him and he watched them go down the drain. Years after being away from home, Gabe comes home to help his family after his father's untimely death and wonders what kept him away for so long. He is tired of his every day life and wants more.
Meredith was your average girl, wanting what every woman wants, love. In high school, she thought that she had that love and it was strong enough to withstand any and everything, but as we all know something worth having doesn't come easy, and what is meant to be, will find away. By the time she left for college she was heartbroken, and never wanted to deal with the effects of love. Moving home at the age of 35 to start over again was not something she ever thought that would happen, but the inevitable happened. After 2 decades of being away, she runs into her high school sweetheart, and doesn't want to sort through the feelings she once felt, and risk her heart and emotions for the sake of hashing out the past.
What happens when your one true soulmate is standing in front of you, wanting to hash out the past after you thought you had burned them memories and pain years ago? What happens when your heart is still with the same person after decades of being away from each other? What happens when you have outside forces wanting to keep you apart?? Well here's the thing I am not going to tell you, you will have to read to find out!!!
I recommend this book to people who believe in second chances. I recommend this book to people who love well..... love, and finding your soulmate. To people who try to right their wrongs and move on with life the best way they know how. AND ESPECIALLY TO PEOPLE THAT WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON LOVE, NO MATTER HOW BAD LOVE SOMETIMES HURTS!!
Gabe and Meredith, high school sweethearts, they think they have their life together already figured out. But something happens along the way because Gabe at a certain point in their lives, he decides to distance himself from Meredith. With her heart broken, Meredith moves on making one bad mistake after another. So when she goes back to put all those pieces of her life back together she stumbles into Gabe once again. Irresistible, charming, and unconventional Gabe. How can she manage him again after all the sorrow? I needed to make some introductory remarks before giving my opinion about the book. Well what can I say. Firstly Gabe is surely a heartbreaker but his heart only beats for one woman that is Meredith. Meredith on the other hand, has certainly made some mistakes trying to please others but bits and pieces of her high school relationship with Gabe are rooted in her soul. From that exact moment in which she meets him again and unconsciously has a one night stand with him, she knows that she is busted. With no doubts, this is a second chance romance but mostly it is actually a rediscovery of two people meant to be together. I loved how both characters were perfectly matched, it seemed to me that they were just one soul. What more could I say? I just advise all the readers of this book to loosen up and start dreaming.
This is a quick read that I could not put down, it is such a cute, sweet story. If you love second chance romance you definitely have to read this one.
Gabe Wilde was the sweetest and most romantic man ever, he is every woman's dream! Sweet, romantic, hot, any woman would love to have him as their past and future. Poor Meredith I hate to see anyone have to go through what she did. She is such a sweet woman, I love her spunk and dedication to life. Gabe and Meredith were high school sweethearts with their lives all planned out until Gabe had different dreams and hoped that Meredith would follow him. After seventeen years Gabe is back at his home helping his brother with the family ranch and Meredith comes back home after a divorce. She decides she is done with relationships until Gabe being the sweet and romantic man he is, woo’s her off her feet.
This is my first read by Abby Brooks and it will not be my last. Claiming what is Mine is the second book in the Wilde Boys series and I for one will be one clicking the others.
Good book! It was a great quick read! I read from start to finish in one sitting. Meredith has come into town after some trouble in her life and she’s trying to put things back together. She sees Gabe at a wedding her mom tells her to go to. Basically the whole town is going to. Gabe and Meredith have a his history from high school. High school sweethearts. He’s trying to turn a new leaf, feeling he’s missing something in his life. He’s watching his brother in love and content in life. Meredith and Gabe have a history of being high school sweethearts. He crushed her and her spirt back then. Along with her current problems she wants to stay clear of him. Well life has other plans fir the two of them. I read this book voluntarily for an honest review. If you love second chance romances which i do, you get into this book. It is a little fast paced. So once you get past the beginning of Gabe’s forwardness its smooth sailing. Enjoy!
Meredith & Gabe had plans all thru high school, to go to college together, get married, have a family, everything. Then it all changed, he decided not to include her in the same things, so they went their separate ways. She gets married to someone else, she doesn't really know why, she doesn't really love him, she supports him financially & everything. She divorces him & moves back home to her parents to find her way to start over. When Gabe sees Meredith at his brother Chet's wedding and they start talking, he realizes what a horrible mistake he made 20 years ago. He will do anything he can to make her see that they belong together again. And when he makes a mistake and misinterprets what he thinks she wants, can she forgive him and understand that he really does want to make things right and be together forever? This is such a beautiful story. I couldn't put it down. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Brooks has done it again! This is one of the best second chance romances I have had the privilege to read in a long time. I love the characters, the storyline and the emotional connection that Brooks gives her readers with her writing style. Mer and Gabe were high school sweet hearts who had everything mapped out. But things don't always go the way we plan and a failed marriage later Meredith is back home to put her life back together. What follows is a sweet, funny, hot, sexy and well played out journey of two wonderfully dynamic characters that are sure to melt your heart. This is a must read for any true romantic!!! I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and felt the need to leave a review.
Gabe and Meredith were high school sweethearts and they they had their future planned out, that is until Gabe changed and started thinking only of his dreams and expected Meredith to follow him! Both are left heartbroken when they break up, but they move on without each other.
18 years pass and Meredith returns home to stay with her parents, and bumps into Gabe at his brothers wedding. Sparks fly between the two of them and Gabe tells Meredith that’s she is and always has been the only girl for him.
Can they forgive each other for the heartache caused years before, can they start again and move on? are they destined to be together?
This is a story of second chances and I read it in one sitting. I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Claiming What is Mine is book 2 in the Wilde Boys series and a wonderful second chance romance between Gabe Wilde and Meredith Still. Once you begins this book you will keep turning the pages to find out what might happen next. Lots of laughter, tears, misspoken words, tension, doubts, not always on the same page but both wanting to find the love they lost..but after decades apart and lots of water under the bridge can these two find that love and the future they planned as high school sweethearts really has grown and matured while apart and fate has brought them back to each other and has given them a second chance at their forever love...
Claiming What is Mine is a must read. You will not be able to put it down! I loved the storyline, the emotional roller coaster of Meredith and Gabe’s relationship. They loved each other but life got in the way of their plans for a future. How can you forgive someone that breaks your heart? Can you move past the uncertainty of getting hurt again? Or should you just claim what is yours without fears? Get your copy now! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! Thank you Abby for the easy and intriguing book! Absolutely loved it!
I received this book as an ARC in return for honest review. Gabe and Meredith were childhood sweethearts who thought they’d figured out the future. When Gabe gets ready to graduate, he seems to think Meredith should just follow whatever his plans are and be happy. They breakup and go on to live separate lives. When Meredith moves back to their small town, will sparks fly? Or will the past hold them backwards? I loved this story!
Gabe and Meredith were high school sweethearts who reconnect after eighteen years of being apart. Meredith with a divorce on her belt she decides to go back home to her small county of Logan where her parents live and where she was her whole life. After she goes to Chet Wilde's wedding she ends up seeing Gabe and after she promised herself she wouldn't fall for him she remembers why he was the love of her life and Gabe realizes that he doesn't want to be alone and wants to win her back. whatever it takes this story will suck you into an awesome job Abby and Will did.

Once again Abby Brooks and Will Wright have written a beautiful story with lovable characters. Reuniting with his high school sweetheart, Gabe is one of those characters that readers cannot help but fall in love with. He is a man who listens and tries to make other’s lives easier. The love he has for Meredith is a love dreams are made from. The perfect man in this perfect book. This is a must read! Abby and Will take a bow...job well done!!
It took them 20 years after parting, but this couple gets a second chance! Meredith has just returned home after finalizing her divorce with someone she knew wasn’t right. She doesn’t expect to stumble into her high school sweetheart so quickly. But Gabe needs a bit of saving at his brothers wedding and Meredith takes on the job of rescuing. When Gabe wakes up, he knows he finally has a second chance to make up for his stupidity as a teenager. He has never connected with another woman, because he’s been waiting for her. Gabe stumbles along the way to prove that he has grown up and can be the man she needs. So with a baby on the way, a ring on her finger and some crazy Wilde family antics, can they get the life they always planned?
Second chance romance has been by go to for months now!
Claiming What is Mine has that covered! Gabe and Meredith had their life planned....alas, life happened and got in the way of those plans.....for a few years.
Their first time seeing each other again......Fireworks!!!! This was a good read and second chance trope. I enjoyed the redevelopment of their relationship and of the supporting characters.
These authors are new to me , so I had no idea what to expect. I have to say, that was pleasantly surprised. The title is perfect since both main characters, Gabe and Meredith claim what is theirs. It’s a story about second chances but it’s also a story about family dynamics, love , and hope. The story takes you on a worthwhile emotional rollercoaster ride. Looking forward to more stories by these talented authors. I was gifted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is a great read, it flows really with really good characters. Very drunk at his brothers wedding Gabe here's a woman's voice talking to him only to realize it's Meradith his high school sweetheart who's back home after a divorce. It's been 18 years since they split but the love is still there. Although Gabe knows he messed up royally all them years ago he now has to prove he's a changed man and grown up to get his happy ending.
Meredith and Gabe had plans for their future, but that changed. They went there separate ways. One got married while the other was looking for someone special. Fast forward twenty years, they meet again and have a second chance at love. Will there past get in the way?
A beautiful heartfelt second chance romance. I fell in love with Gabe and Meredith from the beginning. A great read. The Wilde men are a hoot and I can't wait to read more on the rest of the brothers.
Enjoyed this story about families that are not the "so called perfect, not a hair out of place ones." The Wilde boys acted like a family of men would, full of bull s..t but there for each other when needed. A good story to read and easy to follow.
The next installment in the Wilde family saga. I absolutely love stories like this. Re-connection, lessons learned, growth, etc. Gabe and Meredith were always meant to be!
Gabe is admiringly slapping his own bum to the bantering amongst themselves as they prepare Chet to be married. There are six Wilde boys, Chet in comparison is downright uptight.
Then there’s Leo the drunken brother causing a disturbance during the nuptials, which declines into a physical skirmish after he accosted the pregnant bride as she walked down the aisle.
Meredith and Gabe were high school sweethearts, Gabe was her protector, running back for the school team, the Jaguars. The handsome, cocky star whose future was bright and promising. He was single-handedly responsible for them making it to the state championships—again—and he was all too aware.
Meredith was a year behind him and treated like royalty by association. They had their future planned out—together—down to the names of their imaginary children. The word love didn’t do her feelings justice. Her parents, they saw Gabe in an entirely different light and they weren’t shy about sharing. What she hadn’t realised, was how they felt it perfectly within their rights to weigh in on every aspect of her life. Her father lived for opportunities to belittle him. Her mum focused on superficial things such as the clothes she wore (and how she wore them), her extracurricular activities, she was resigned to not being heard at home (or that was her interpretation). Which, led her to apply more pressure on Gabe to hear her, seeing as no one else ever had before.
The beginning of the end began after the final game of the state championships. Gabe knew college recruiters would be watching and it was his last chance to shine. When his team won, scouts came out of the woodwork, promising scholarships.
Gabe has always followed his own path. It was that same confident sense of self that molded his entire future and her as well, though ‘planned’ is an overstatement to describe the amount of attention her wants and dreams received. In his infinite wisdom, her future was secondary, an extension of his. Gabe didn’t care that her family would never approve of, or pay for, tuition to a private school, especially if her reason for being there was to be with him. He stopped listening and told her to apply for scholarships at whichever school he chose, and things would be fine. What she wanted or worried about was irrelevant. He had everything under control. This was the beginning of the end. They uttered regrettable words aimed at vulnerabilities. Love faded from his eyes. His irritation became disdain.
Eighteen years later after an unpleasant divorce, she’s returned to reassess her life. She loved Gabe when they were young, they were amazing together—until they weren't. She didn't know how to exist without him and had to rebuild herself, but it always felt like something was missing. He says he's grown and changed. Her life is in shambles. A failed marriage under her belt and living with her parents.
Maybe, the issue is less about whether Gabe is right for her, and more about whether Gabe fits into her plans for the future.
Gabe now has a reputation as a “panty chasing heartbreaker.” ‘Note to self, find out who Meredith’s been talking to and kill that person. Slowly’. “Who would go and say a thing like that?” Honestly, I couldn’t begin to put that list together. I doubt there’s enough paper at the ranch. “From what I hear, that would make for quite a list, my friend.” Meredith shoots me a knowing glare. Damnit, I just thought that. I really am going to have to track down her source. “Alright, maybe there used to be some truth behind it, but that’s all in the past. Besides, I have a good reason...not that you’d believe me if I told you.” “Oh, this ought to be good.” “It’s because of you.” Her back stiffens and the look on her face suggests she is offended by the accusation. “Your philandering is my fault?” “No, not your fault. Not at all. And…I mean, for the record, I wouldn’t call it philandering.” “Okay then, what would you call it? Exactly?” “I’m a flirt. Always have been. You know that.” “From what I’ve heard, you do more than flirt.” “Okay then. I’m a lover of women. Wait. Correction. I was a lover of women. But we’re getting off track. My point is…that’s all in the past.” They end up drunk and in bed together.
Witty excerpts:::
“Meredith is going to love the surprise visit. Okay, Meredith will look back on this surprise visit fondly. Someday. Probably.” (He’s visiting her home unannounced). His welcome is less than welcoming by her brother.
‘Meredith is coming over for dinner and I want to show her how capable I am at adulting. How? By making a fancy meal all on my own…obviously. The one wrinkle in my otherwise flawless plan? Besides chili, steak, or the occasional potluck stew, I don’t know sh*t about cooking a proper meal. Chili is great, but it’s seasonal (and a little gas after we’ve eaten wouldn’t set the mood I’m hoping for). Steak and potatoes are a timeless treat, but I want Meredith to unbutton her jeans because she’s interested in a little sexy time, not because she ate too much.”
“Meredith is due to arrive at six which gives me a little more than four hours to make the house presentable, clean myself up, and prepare dinner. I question some of my purchases as I pull items from the crumpled paper bags. Was it temporary insanity? Did I succumb to a brief, yet powerful moment of hysteria while shopping? Why did I think table candles and holders were necessary? And what’s with this wire basket and decorative balls? No clue, but I’ve got some of each now. The next two hours pass in a blur of sweeping, and dusting, and fluffing of pillows and cushions, all in an effort to make the best impression possible. The stakes are high, and I’m playing for keeps. There’s no room for beer bottles sticking out from under the sofa or dust bunnies hanging from the ceiling. When I finally step back to survey the living room, accepting there’s no time to re-paint, I decide I’m satisfied with the look of the place and head upstairs to clean up’.
“The shower is exactly what the doctor ordered. In addition to the dirt and grime from the ranch, it washes away a good deal of anxiety about tonight. I step onto the mat as I rub the towel through my hair, and catch a foggy glimpse of myself in the mirror. Standing here, still dripping with water, I turn my torso to one side and then the other, evaluating the beast staring back at me. A couple quick poses with flexed biceps and I can’t help but laugh at my stupidity. You are who you are man, and insecurity has never been a part of the equation. She’s gonna fall for you. How could she not? I go about my routine, making myself ready for the evening, and stop for one last look in the mirror before I shut the light off. I have to say, I’d f… me…”.
Taking a leap of faith, she finds herself with an unplanned pregnancy at thirty-five. Sure, she wants children. Someday. A baby deserves security and responsibility. Things like money and a home. Could their relationship withstand a pregnancy when they’re so new. He is charming and handsome and fun to be around. But, a dad?
“I feel like I would have to explicitly spell out obvious things, like, I don’t care if you did double check the ties between the car seat and the saddle, you can’t put a baby on horseback. Or, No, peanut butter doesn’t require teeth, but I’m positive a three-month-old isn’t ready for that kind of food. Thinking of him that way is adorable. But this isn’t the time for adorable. This is serious. My thoughts drift back to the conversation with Christy and her question about my career and living situation. I never planned to stay here, coming home was supposed to be temporary. Gabe’s life is tied to his ranch. Which means he’s tied to this area. How would a baby fit into that puzzle? Her trip incognito to the chemist is funny, so is hiding from her parents”.
“The faint line between fantasy and reality dissolves and everything comes crashing down. How am I going to tell my parents? What if I don’t? People have totally gotten away with that, you know? I’ll keep buying bigger and bigger clothes and never mention it. If anyone asks, I’ll tell them I’m eating my way out of depression. And then get all sensitive about the subject until they drop it. This could work. At least, until I go into labor. But then, they’re grandparents, again. They adore my oldest brother Mark’s kids. They'll be so overcome with joy, they'll forget to be mad about nine months of deceit. Probably. Holy hell, how am I going to tell Gabe? I doubt the thought of little ones has ever so much as crossed his mind. At least not in an, I can’t wait for crumb-grabbers of my own, kind of way”.
He finally gains the courage to ask for her father’s blessing and proposes after she announces her pregnancy to her parents. Gabe wants her to know, she has his full support. “He’ll be with her every step of the way. With the caveat that, if there’s blood or needles (God I hate needles), I may be passed out on the floor by her side, but I’ll be there.”
At the doctor’s office::: “Posters with too much detail about the miracle of life plaster the walls. An illustrated diagram of a pregnant woman’s vagina hangs behind Meredith. Another of a baby, apparently stuck in the birth canal, hangs beside it. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like someone should be helping that baby. And they barely scratch the surface of the images my eyes can’t get away from.”
It was pleasantly surprising seeing the term disembarking rather than the now commonly used ‘deplane’. Yes, I’m ageing myself. “By the time we disembark the plane and my feet touch the terminal floor, I’m bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to be on vacation in Hawaii”.
Gabe was impulsive but caring, once he decided Meredith was ‘it’ for him, he was totally committed, notwithstanding ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions’ oftentimes on a collision course with Meredith’s insecurities.
Their inner dialogue was insightful to their personalities and the love they shared for one another, eighteen years later.

This was the first book from Abby I have read and I was hooked on this story. I love a good second chance love story and if anyone deserved it was Gabe and Meredith. The writing was flawless, and loved not only the main but the secondary characters as well.
Gabe is sexy, sweet, all American guy from a small town. He has his life figured out until life throws him a curve ball. Meredith was the love of his life until they ended things right before the end of high school. Now Meredith at the age of 35 is back home starting over. She is really trying not to think about her feeling for Gabe. What happens when he gets caught in the middle of a family fight and bottle of Liquor?
I can't wait to see what Wilde book we get next!!!
Ahhh, Gabe Wilde, the sweetest and most romantic (next to Chet) of course. Looking for a man who listens to your every word, then remembers and acts on it days later..well that is lovable Gabe! Finding his high school sweetheart after all these years, brings back what could have been, but will those feelings being reciprocated? Ahh, well, you'll have to read this heart wrenching story for yourself. Really, you can't go wrong with Abby Brooks Books, and Will, and let's face it, it's the Wilde Brothers...swoon
I’m not going to say Claiming What is Mine, the 2nd book in Brook’s Wilde Boys series is a carbon copy of the first book Taking What is Mine, but there certainly are many similarities between the two. In both stories the female protagonists Christy and now Meredith are coming off of really bad relationships. In this story Meredith is recently divorced from her man-child ex Jeff. Although we’re not told how long they were married we know that Meredith is now 35 years old. In both stories it doesn’t take long after our female lead meets the male lead, (Gabe Wilde in this story) before they begin having sex with them so these aren’t slow burn romances. Of course in this 2nd chance at love trope Meredith and Gabe were high school lovers some 18 years ago so they’re no strangers to each other’s bodies. And in both stories its emotional baggage from past relationships that causes the women to almost ruin their current relationships with a Wilde brother. I thought Gabe was a great character in this book. By the time Meredith reappears in town he’s long since realized that letting her get away was the biggest mistake of his life and that he has no one but himself to blame for it. When she shows up at his older brother Chet’s wedding reception he’s determined from the minute she approaches him that he’s not going to let her slip through his hands again. Even if he is literally drunk on his ass at the time. From this point in the story forward Gabe is on a mission to show Meredith that he’s a changed man from the arrogant teenage boy she knew almost 20 years ago that broke her heart. I had a little more trouble with the Meredith character. I’m not unsympathetic to her situation. She has a history with Gabe that didn’t end well and she’s just divorced her loser ex-husband. So even though on the surface she quickly reconnects with Gabe, I understand the doubts she has lingering in the back of her mind. My problem is Meredith is a 35-year-old woman with a college degree who has been married and divorced but IMHO the only time she acts like one is when she’s naked with Gabe. Then she acts like a woman who knows exactly what she wants and isn’t afraid to demand it. Other than then she just seemed sort of whiney and immature to me. Part of Meredith’s issues was what she was going to do for a job. She has a degree and experience in accounting but as she states at the beginning of this story the small town doesn’t have many openings for a corporate accountant. I get why she divorced her husband but why did she also quit her job to run back home to her overbearing parents house to live in her childhood bedroom in the small town where she is bound to run into Gabe the man that broke her heart that she’s still in love with? That all seemed a immature to me. A subplot in this story is the brothers relationship with their youngest brother Leo who seems to have a serious drinking problem from the few appearances he’s made in this and the previous book. Loyalty or lack of it to their younger brother is a divisive issue between the other brothers. Frankly I don’t know how Frank or Hank could even begin to defend or excuse his behavior at Chet and Christy’s wedding? Leo’s book hasn’t been released yet. Brother Hank’s is the next book up and I’m not sure I care to read it. Brooks really seems to flip flop with the Hank character. One minute he seems like a sensitive intelligent guy with a playful streak and the next he acts like an overaged kid with no common sense. I’m also a little confused about the inclusion of brother Frank in this story. I first met Frank as the male lead in the last Brookside series book Come Home to Me as the guy Sarah Carmichael falls in love with. So I assumed since this series comes after the Brookside series that Frank and Sarah would be together But that’s not the case although we’re told that Frank didn’t come home for the family Thanksgiving meal because of some woman which I’ll assume was Sarah. But also in Come Home to me none of the Wilde brothers are mentioned as being married or engaged. In this book Chet is married and Gabe is engaged. A small thing I’m sure but still confounding to me. I’m anal like that. Honestly after falling in love with the first Abby Brooks book I read, now having read several of her books I find the quality inconsistent. None of them have been bad but few have been as impressive to me in both the story and her voice as the first one I read was. Maybe that book just raised my expectations for the author too high? At any rate once I start a series I’m normally obsessive about reading every book in it. As far as the Wilde Boys series goes, I’ll probably read the rest of it but I also feel like I’m ready after only two books to take a break from it for awhile and maybe come back to it later. And if I’m being completely honest if the books weren’t on Kindle Unlimited I might not come back to the series at all. Sorry Abby.
