He’s royalty. She’s a commoner. Their association has no future.
Bronwen Davies is not only disinterested in marrying well, she has turned her back upon society, to live as freely as she can in the wilds of Northallerton, where she lives with her cousin Lilly and Lilly’s husband, Jasper.
Jasper’s half-brother, the Archeduke Edvard Christoffer of Silkeborg, arrives at Northallerton without warning, asking for temporary sanctuary from the pressures of his public life. There, he finds Bronwen, a most distracting diversion. Only, Bronwen’s unexpected opinions and forthright manner prove to be far more seductive than a simple distraction should be…

I voluntarily read an Advance Review Copy of this book. I love this series that revolves around the Great Family and this book is a great addition to this continuing sags. Bronwen has never conformed to the rigid expectations of the ton until she meets Tor and that is exactly what she has to do in order to be in his world. This is a great read and I would highly recommend it and any of the other books in this series.
The daughter of a princess who takes her freedom meets an Archduke in this Victorian romance. I appreciated the intelligence of the heroine and the hero. Reasoning made for a different perspective on the romance. Royalty is the antagonist and the ending made me so happy! There is tragedy in the rest of the family however...
Read in KU Noticed two different spellings of discreet.
This is the 4th book in the Scandalous Scions series. We again meet members of a large unconventional family during the Victorian period. This family believes in living as their heart demands of them; an attitude that during this period is not done and can ruin entire families. I love this group of people who dare to defy convention and will do what they must to protect their own. This story is about Bronwen, a young woman who refuses to follow the "rules" and Tor, a royal, who must follow them to keep his standing. She defies all to get what her heart desires and a passionate affair begins. The first awakening of her passion and his learning to let his strict rules of living go are eye opening for the both of them. But he won't defy convention and in order not to hurt her further leaves. Now, whether she likes it or not, her family must step in to help her become what his world demands. That's enough spoilers, just let me say their passion for each other is overwhelming and had this reader glued to the book from beginning to end. This entire series is filled with so much love for each other and family, that there is no way you cannot be emotional drawn into each story. I don't know about you, but for me a story where love conquers through the highs and lows of one's life and family is there to hold you up, is a story worth reading.
After reading “Mask of Nobility” by Tracy Cooper-Posey the Scandalous Scions series just keeps getting better and better with each book. I just love reading about this large family whose not really like you would think a nobility family is like. They are unconventional in there thinking, especially in who they marry for they marry for love not station. This particular book is Bronwen and Edvard’s story. Bronwen is a strong young woman who is very unconventional for she would rather go her own way. Meanwhile Edvard who is the half brother to Jasper follows the rules of society to keep is title, his standing. Edvard is the Archduke Edvard Christoffer. His half brother Jasper who is married to Lily who is also Bronwen‘s cousin. Bronwen went to Jasper and Lily’s home for she wanted to live her life when she meets Edvard where a powerful affair of passion begins for Bronwen catches Edvard’s interest through wonderful conversations and passion. But can they get pass there stations to find love? Now that is the question. To find out I highly recommend this book, also I would recommend all the books in the Scandalous Scions morning series as well. Such a wonderful read. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
In a family which breaks many social norms; Bronwen has chosen to live in the countryside and live freely, sporting bare feet and a casual air. When the Archduke Edvard Christoffer of Silkborg is taking a break from his duties (and the young ladies hoping to be his wife) he goes to where he knows the rules are not so strict. Bronwen is a beautiful puzzle, and quite clever. “Tor”, as Edvard is going by to remain unknown, must fend for himself with no servants, and hike about the property.
A delightful relationship builds between Tor and Bronwen. She challenges him and teaches him her country ways. When duty calls, Tor says goodbye to Bronwen, as he would not ask her to give up her freedom. But as Bronwen misses Tor greatly – perhaps she can make the choice to rejoin society to become an appropriate match for him in his world.
Humorous and sexy – the extended family and their refusal to bow to societal norms creates a delightful glimpse into their version of the Victorian era.
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
A delightful story of love winning against the odds. I loved these characters and the repartee they exchanged as she challenged him and he adjusts to the escape he has allowed himself from his life as a European royal. What a contrast for him: from the freedom to discover and enjoy countryside life with a lover with unbridled passion then back to the strict conventions of the Victorian era but with even more limitations because he has the responsibilities of being European royalty. I enjoyed the different perspectives of the characters: a free spirit vs someone ruled by Society's judgement but the best part about this contrast is that it was a twist on the normal male and female roles for this era! Mask of Nobility is another wonderful addition to the Scandalous Scions series. I am thoroughly enjoying the exciting story of each family member of this series and better yet is the way these stories unfold! Author Tracy Cooper-Posey has a talent for making the characters so real, in a succinct way, that draws the reader's empathy while moving the action and adventure along at an exciting pace.
Bronwen is the daughter of a princess and a commoner. She chooses to be free of the conventional ways of that era. Her mother Annalis is quite understanding as is all the great family. When she meets Tor, the Archduke who runs off to his brother Jasper for a moment of peace and away from the burdens of his life, she will have to reconsider her ways. I love that she is such a strong character, seeking for truth and speaking it freely. She is smart enough to better the best doctors of her time. I truly enjoyed this book and it's right up there with the rest of the series. Ms Tracy never disappoints!
I loved this book. It took us back to a time where everything wasn't so easy. In a world where time slowly passed by. In this one we learn of a young woman who is in need of finding her place in society. After going to stay with family she finds a man who just simply intrigues her to no end by the name of Tor. As they spend some time together it's obvious that they love each other but sadly both are from two different worlds. Or so we think. Things happen, people come around and finally love is made. This is a must read. I give it 5 stars. I voluntarily reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy
This is a fun tale with a neat romance between the heroine, Bronwen Davies, who is rebelling against the structures placed on women in her society, and Edvard Christoffer, Archeduke of Silkeborg (there is actually a city of Silkeborg in the middle of Denmark; I’ve been there - it’s quite nice). Mistaken identities (he thinks she’s a simple commoner when he meets her) family ties and interactions, a nicely done romance, very hot sex, emotions, drama. Yes this book really has it all - and I’m happy to recommend it.
The fourth book in the Scandalous Scions series, this mostly focuses on Bronwen and Tor. For fans of the series, Tor is the half brother of Jasper, Lily’s husband from the second book. Bronwen is Anna and Rhys’ daughter. Bronwen is staying with Jasper and Lily in Yorkshire, when Tor arrives for an incognito visit. Bronwen, a modern woman by today’s standards, struggles with the confines of Victorian England. I found it hard to empathise with her at the beginning. But as the story progressed, I found it easier to grasp the extent of her struggles against what society, and almost everyone in it, expects of her. Tor is a royal, used to people agreeing with him, but wanting to find a way forward for his people in the future. There are plenty of sparks between them. But it’s so interesting to see these two who appear to be polar opposites at the beginning, develop their futures towards each other.
Unusually for the books in this series, there’s quite a lot of other people’s stories in this book. Cian, Alice and Rhys all appear in various chapters, as well as Jack and Will to a much lesser degree. This was an easy summer read - I read it all in a day. But that may be because, as with most of Tracey’s novels, they’re incredibly hard to put down. They suck you in to the story and the next thing you know you’ve finished and you’re wondering where the time went. And that’s a laudable trait in my opinion. Looking forward to seeing whose story we get in the next book.
What a beautiful love story. I love this family, so ahead of their times. This series has been beautifully written and can't wait to get started on the next book.
I really liked this one but I am partial to nerd heroines. It was a sweet story with good character development and a nice storyline. Rather predictable but still different enough from the more common historical novels to be totally worth the time.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋 This is a new author to me , and although I enjoyed the book , it’s never a good idea to start reading a series at book 4 . Tor is escaping from his duties and from a marriage hunt , he’s an ArchdukeAnd has many pressing responsibilities . Bronwen is a bit of a free spirited woman, she’s also royalty, a sort of half princess . The two meet whilst repairing a carriage wheel , and don’t seem to get on all that well , but even if they can work things out ,there is the difference in their status’s to consider . I liked Tracy’s book ,she uses some great descriptive writing and her characters were good . I loved the banter between Tor and Bronwen . I think I’ll have to go read the others now . “I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
I love it when a romance is more than just a romance that's why I adored reading the story of free spirited, unconventional Bronwen who meets Archeduke Edvard Christoffer of Silkeborg (Tor) who is bound by restrictions and responsibilities. This pair definitely have chemistry and there is a certain charm to their encounters, Bronwen is direct and honest which Tor finds novel and refreshing. All in all this was a well-written and researched Victorian romance, the descriptions were just enough to picture everything from clothing, scenery & landscape and the dialogue and scenes flowed perfectly. This author is a great storyteller and I loved the wit and humor throughout the book, I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
