"The Last Myon" is a story of fantasy adventure, revenge and an individual's total unwillingness to submit or to fail, battling against overwhelming natural elements and a group of hardened, sadistic creatures who will stop at nothing to succeed in his capture and slavery. In an everlasting winter world, Ackrehm, the last of his Myon kind, must fight for his life, sustaining multiple injuries along the way and still demonstrating he truly is a force to be reckoned with. Struggling with exhaustion, both mentally and physically, will he manage to overcome, or will he fight or flee? One thing is for certain, "The Last Myon" will keep you hooked until the very end, bonding with characters and excitedly reading on with an obsession to find out what happens next, promoting an ethos to take away of never give up, never surrender.
A lot of fun! A solid, internally consistent fantasy romp with a lot of good imagination behind it; I really loved the new fantasy groups and the unique spins on classics like elves. The writing has some errors that impacted the flow of it, but otherwise fast paced and entertaining.
For want of criticism, I wish there were more interesting female characters; Kornelija was great, but more would be better, to balance out the rest of the cast.
“Fear, rage, thirst, and pain all coursed through his veins, burning fire like embers and coursing like a shooting star, allowing him to run faster and faster.”
I really enjoyed how the story was fast moving, it kept going from the very beginning, there was action, and it didn’t stop. The story first follows the Myon and the Geflacks. Ackrehm(myon) took the leader Kadamlic by surprise and injured him after the Geflacks killed his horse Therd. Kadamlic who was King wanted to seek revenge on Myon. He sent two of his soldiers Raith and Cleave to bring the Myon back to him alive. The writing style was really good, and the way the characters were described really allowed you to envision what the characters looked like. I like the various creatures that were involved in the book, the myon, Geflack Cyclops, the elf woman( who was my favorite), a dwarf and a banshee. The end took me by surprise and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Possibly find out why Ackrehm may be the last Myon….?
” I want this bastards skin hanging from my walls, I want to taste his heart and feel it’s last beat in my hand.”
If you enjoy dark fantasy and don’t shy away from plenty of deaths, then I highly recommend this book to you! Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
I was kindly gifted this book. Being a book worm and this not being my usual read, I was sceptical. First few pages, knowing little of fantasy writing, I thought I may struggle to follow. Unsure in my head how to even pronounce some characters names (thank you audio books!!), needless to say my fears were unfounded. By around page 40 I was genuinely hooked. I grew attached to the characters. I felt the authors writing abilities made it possible for me to feel like I was there, a bystander watching it play out, descriptive writing at it's best, while leaving your own imagination to still play an active role. I feel there's more to this book than just a story, I personally took something away from it. This book made a girl who normally reads Thrillers, smile, laugh, a little queasy at times, but more importantly, think and feel. If fantasy writing isn't usually your thing i would recommend this book, I think it's a brilliant introduction to the fantasy world if you're a novice like me. Will I now go and purchase book number two.....definitely!!!
The Last Myon was okay, but not something I'd recommend to friends. While I enjoyed some of the imagery and found a few of the characters interesting, they lacked the depth I was hoping for. The story had its moments, but the pacing felt inconsistent—some scenes were overly descriptive, while others just seemed to happen without much build-up.
One aspect I really didn't enjoy was the frequent death of pets and animals—personally, that's a hard no for me in books. On top of that, the spelling and grammar errors pulled me out of the story too often.
That said, there were glimpses of strong themes, and one quote stood out to me: "Humans would hunt different species to the point of extinction, or worse still, force them into slavery." A powerful moment in an otherwise uneven read.
Too short.. the biggest complaint I have with this book.. I want to know more about the myons, what happened them, the wars that wore them down and now I am left with the same worry I had with pratchett, with Robert Jordan and David gammell. Rudi, you better not die before you finish showing us this world or we are going to be having words...
What a fantastic read! Mr Jennings has a way of telling a story that keeps the reader on the edge of every page. This book took me from the real world and placed me into the world created by this gifted writer...and that is the mark of a brilliant author! Can't wait for book two!

Rudi is a new author to me. I found out about him at a signing in October in Peterborough. This signing also gave me the opportunity to meet Rudi and chat with him. I also purchased a signed paperback of The Last Myon to read. The Last Myon is a fantasy novel that includes Elves, Dwarfs, Humans and A Myon. It is told from multiple points of view but it’s clear who’s POV by the name of the characters. I liked the multiple POVs as it allowed me to see more than one side of the story it’s almost like reading more than one story at the same time. The characters that are in this novel are well thought out and they play their roles well. Each one brings a different skill set to the overall dynamic of the story. I’m really glad I had a chance to read The Last Myon and I’m looking forward to seeing what Rudi comes up with next. Overall a really good read with promise for the author. There are however some spelling and punctuation errors that could have been worked out before printing. If you like fantasy novels I’d highly recommend taking a chance with The Last Myon!
