Writing has always been my passion. After writing picture books for my children and mysteries for friends with teenagers, I finally found what I love writing the most—suspense books. As an avid reader, I felt the transition from reading to writing was a wonderful new experience, and I absolutely love the joy of pleasing others with words.

Living on a dairy farm, my husband and I raised three wonderful children. I feel so blessed to be able to write books and paint portraits at my home in the country, and I welcome the opportunity to help others find a close relationship with God. I strive to use those opportunities to honor Him and please Him with the talents He has given me.

The three stories in Holly, Ivy and Intrigue are all good – and all very different from each other, meaning there’s something here for just about every reader.

Christmas Murder Mix-Up by Joanie Bruce feels somewhat like a classic Doris Day-type movie at first, in the best possible way. Paige might be a bit overly dramatic to jump to the conclusion she does but as a self-proclaimed anxiety girl myself (able to jump to the worst conclusion in a single bound) I get it. What follows is a story that quickly gets high-stakes even as it maintains its quirky edges. A great read for cozy mystery fans!

Holiday Pursuit starts out intense and stays that way! Lots of breath-stealing, nail-biting action in this story from Alexa Verde. A little romance rounds out the mix, along with friendship and family. Brianna is a strong heroine, fiercely protective of her loved ones, but not so independent that she can’t ask for help when she needs it. And not so independent that she can’t fall in love. This one is the perfect choice for fans of action-packed suspense reads!

A Holiday Intruder by Denise Weimer has a lot more romance than the other two (I’m not complaining!!) but it doesn’t suffer in the suspense category either. I loved the small town feel, the vivid characters, and of course the kisses! This third story in the collection makes a great read for people like me who like a little suspense with their romance novels!

Bottom Line: You can’t go wrong with any of the stories in this collection. Each one has its own distinct personality, but they all revolve around Christmas and suspense. They also each emphasize a relationship with God and include a varying dose of romance. Holly, Ivy and Intrigue is an engaging read and I look forward to more from each of these authors!

It seems funny to be reviewing a book I'm a part of, but I have to say how much I loved the stories written by my co-authors, Alexa Verde and Denise Weimer.

Alexa's story, Holiday Pursuit, keeps you on the edge of your seat while reading a story full of suspense and twists that keep you guessing. And Denise's story, A Holiday Intruder, was a sweet romance full of mystery and interesting facts about Dahlonega, Georgia.

So, even though I'm a part of this book, I love rating the other two stories involved, and I highly recommend it to anyone loving mystery and suspense. And who doesn't love a good Christmas story?? :-)

Holly, Ivy, and Intrigue is a collection of three Christmas, Christian, suspense stories. Characters face realistic family problems and issues of faith. Then, something unexpected enters their lives and turns things upside down in the form of a dangerous situation. If they can learn to trust God and the important people in their lives, they might all be able to escape safely ...

Holly, Ivy, and Intrigue is a cute collection of stories by Joanie Bruce, Alexa Verde, and Denise Weimer. They are set during the Christmas season in contemporary times. Each of the characters from all three stories comes from a unique background and has fears and problems to overcome. Paige, from story number one, is afraid to trust her new husband, based on a cryptic phone call she overheard. Story number two's Brianna has an immature brother whose criminal actions she blames herself for. And Kelsey struggles with the downfall of her business while coping with pressure from so many people wanting a piece of her. None of these characters expects to be thrown into a dangerous situation, but expectations do not change reality. Seeing the growth that they experience as a result of those circumstances was worth it, though.

I think my favorite story of the three is the first one, "Christmas Murder Mix-Up." It is exactly that - a mix-up. It was as funny as frustrating to watch a scared young woman draw extreme conclusions from a partial conversation. I feel bad for her, but I also laugh because of the absurdity of her exaggeration of the facts. It is far too relatable. Then the tables turn and she is faced with real danger. I won't tell you what happens, but know that it is a pretty decent story.

I enjoyed Holly, Ivy, and Intrigue and recommend it to fans of Christian suspense.

I received a complementary copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

I want to start off by saying thank you to these authors. Thank you for doing something out of the norm - a suspenseful Christmas collection. In a day where everyone wants the Hallmark Christmas story (I am one of these people, I love Hallmark stories!), it is very refreshing and exciting to have something different and suspenseful! I have read and enjoyed stories by each of these lovely authors, so I knew I was in for a treat already!

I really cannot pick out a favorite as I enjoyed them all. In each story I found myself in the middle of a great Christmas mystery. The great thing about novellas? They move fast! So you get to find out the answers pretty quickly. With the first story Christmas Murder Mix-Up, I was immediately hooked on the into to the summary. The entire time I was like, wow, what if I overheard my husband say that? I'm not sure what I would have done. And while the story was a test of love and trust in a marriage, it was also a test between trusting your friends. Sometimes people aren't always as they seem, and desperate times call for desperate measures. I was as shocked as Cooper was, not necessarily when he found out about a friend of his, but the why behind it.

In Holiday Pursuit, at times I kind of pretended I was Briana. I mean, look at everything she went through to find her brother? I'd like to think that I would do the same thing if my brother were missing, and so I had my adventure through her character! It was fast paced, fun, and had me on the edge of my seat!

In the last story, A Holiday Intruder, it was all sorts of fun and excitement. But I think the setting is what really had me. I'd love to visit the Georgia Mountains, and perhaps see some of the work that Kelsey has done! This story was just as exciting as the rest, and I found myself reading until I got the end as I did not want to put this set of stories down!

Again, these aren't your Hallmark stories. However, I think you'll find that suspense and mystery can be just as fun around the holidays as they can anytime of year! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This delightful trio of mysteries were light, easy reads that I was able to finish in one sitting. I loved that they were all connected to Christmas, yet each had a different flavor.

Christmas Murder Mix-up: Anyone who has made assumptions that lead to misunderstanding and difficulties will appreciate this Christmas caper. Marriage isn’t easy, and as a newlywed of only four months Paige leaps to conclusions that create all kinds of angst in her life. I loved her husband Cooper, and enjoyed following Paige as she tried to figure out what was going on. The story tied up a little too quickly for my taste, but I loved the ending.

Holiday Pursuit: The story starts off with a bang, and the fast pace continues almost to the end. Brianna is a wonderful, older sister who puts her own needs ahead of her brother as she tries to help him out. Her loyalty to those around her is commendable. After the mystery was solved (which I didn’t figure out despite the clues!), there was a nice epilogue with a bit of unexpected “feel good.”

A Holiday Intruder: Denise Weimer is a new author to me, and after reading this story, I will definitely search for other books she’s written. I didn’t solve this mystery either, and the twist at the end was fantastic. The characters were well-developed, and I enjoyed learning about the antiques business. I felt for Kelsey as she struggled trying to make ends meet as a business owner. Tyler had his own issues, and yet he didn’t allow them to get in the way of helping Kelsey. A nice guy, I would like to meet in person.

Holly, Ivy And Intrigue is a wonderful collection of three tales, all with mysteries to solve. All three are unique but linked by similar themes. All are highly entertaining reads.
Christmas Murder Mix Up by Joanie Bruce is a light hearted mystery. The reader is left smiling as they hear one side of the conversation but unlike the character, we do not leap to wild conclusions.
There is a sinister side to the tale too.
With themes of trust, greed, friendship and love peppered with snow, the reader is in for a real treat.
Holiday Pursuit by Alexa Verde is a murder mystery romance. There are themes of guilt and forgiveness, love, protection and family. The burden of guilt can weigh us down. We need to release it and forgive ourselves. Some of the burdens we pick up were not ours to carry.
Prayer is powerful. God always answers prayer.
A fast paced thriller that entertains.
A Holiday Intruder by Denise Weimer is a charming romantic mystery that will warm the reader's heart. History plays an important part. Family history is especially fascinating as family artefacts often come with stories.
Wonderful warm characters with big hearts endear themselves to the reader but not everyone is as charming as they first seem.
A mystery to solve has the reader questioning from the start.
A delightful tale to warm a dark autumn evening.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

Christmas Murder Mix up by Joanie Bruce: This was a nice story. There were parts from several different character's point of view--Paige Collins, Cooper Collins, Tag White, & Rosie . I got caught up in the mystery and trying to figure out what exactly was happening and who was involved. I would pick up the story and before I knew it, I'd read for longer than I'd planned. I didn't want to put it down. It was a fast read, but didn't feel rushed.

Holiday Pursuit by Alexa Verde: This story definitely starts out with a bang! It was non stop action from the beginning to the end. I was surprised by the reveal of who was the "bad guy" in the mystery. I liked the faith element woven through and for growth seen in the characters. I look forward to reading more books by Alexa Verde.

A Holiday Intruder by Denise Weimer: The fact that one of the characters tatted caught my interest right away. So many people don't even know what it is, much less no how to do it! It took a little longer for the mystery to be set in motion in this story, and I had a slight idea of who might be behind it, but never imagined what actually happened. I liked Tyler and how he wanted to protect Kelsey.

HOLLY, INY AND INTRIGUE
Christmas Murder Mix Up. by Joanie Bruce
A phone call she overhears, did he really intend what he was saying. 4 months of marriage and it had come to this for him. A box he left for her, she hears a noise, and now imagination is working overtime. Delightful
Holiday Pursuit by Alexa Verde
Christmas in three days, and Liam hovering in the corner, with a mantra " they're going to kill me". Brianna wonders what he has done now. A pretty car, he just wanted to take a drive, but, found something else. Whose car was it; she needed to find him. A call, to bring her collection of wigs. You wonder if both will soon be hunted by the law.
A HOLIDAY INTRUDER. by Denise Weimer
Kelsey and Angel, trying to make a go of their Upcycling shop. Having first chance at a barn full of items, and the mystery was more than she imagine, someone also wanted. More than one guy also wanted her attention.. All three were delightful, heartwarming stories that readers will enjoy. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

These three stories were interesting and kept me pulled in. I liked the suspense and that these Christmas time stories were not the usual romance and fluff.. I liked the first story the best.. but all of these stories were intriguing from the very first page! The suspense and intrigue continued throughout the whole book in keeping me wondering in each story who was trying to get rid of the heroine.
I was gifted a copy and my review is voluntary..

Holly Ivy and Intrigue are three novellas to wet your appetite for Christmas. Only days away from this grand celebration and all mayhem lets lose as the characters in these books face misunderstanding, murder and deceit. So just another day at the office in my world!

I hope you enjoy my review of this collection.

My penny’s worth

Christmas Murder Mix-Up by Joanie Bruce

Christmas Murder Mix-Up is a novella about a couple in love. However, Connor’s wife Paige misunderstands a telephone conversation which leads her to doubt his intentions. This couple is definitely not singing from the same hymn sheet. Now throw in a couple of villains, snow and a Christmas present, and you have an intriguing suspense story. Can Paige trust her husband and will she find God this Christmas?

A lovely short read that kept me turning the pages.

Holiday Pursuit by Alexa Verde

Brianna Rockwell, the main character is a strong lady ready to help her brother no matter what he has done due to their inseparable bond – even when murder is suspected.

Is there no end to her love?

This story tests sibling love, friendship love and falling in love. Brianne is certainly challenged!

A good read for the Christmas season.

A Holiday Intruder by Denise Weimer

Kelsey Jordan is an everyday young woman trying to make a living for herself using the skills God has given her. I like the fact that she is ordinary and struggling just like many of us.

Denise carefully scripts this story and in my opinion, pulls off an intriguing plot. The characters are likeable which makes the ending unexpected.

A Holiday Intruder is a great short read.

“Holly, Ivy, & Intrigue” is the perfect companion for one of those cold winter evenings prior to Christmas when your shopping and baking are done or you just need a little time to yourself to unwind from all the seasonal busyness. The book is comprised of three separate suspense novellas that take place during the Christmas season. Most readers should easily be able to read each novella in one sitting.

As can be expected, these stories move along very quickly with less character development than a full-length novel. Fortunately that did not detract at all from my enjoyment – in fact I found it refreshingly relaxing. Each novella was well written with ample mystery and tension to satisfy most suspense lovers.

Christmas Murder Mix-up was quite suspenseful yet had clever bits of humor woven through the story that kept me entertained as I read. Misunderstandings abound but of course everything works out well in the end.

Holiday Pursuit was an exciting tale that revolved around a dead body found in a stolen car. The spunky heroine found her share of danger and maybe even romance as she attempted to locate her brother who was suspected of the crime.

A Holiday Intruder may not have as much danger and excitement as the first two novellas but it is a satisfying mystery with an unexpected romance.

I would definitely recommend “Holly, Ivy, & Intrigue” for everyone interested in a bit of light and entertaining reading pleasure for the holidays. Be sure and check it out.

The collection of stories is fast and enjoyable. Each story offers a lot of adventure and intrigue. I love how the characters are fun to get to know. The authors have come together to give readers an enjoyable time of savoring their writing style.

Murder Mixup by Joanie Bruce

It is a mystery with lots of misunderstandings and assumptions. Newlywed couple Paige and Cooper seem to have a happy life. When Paige overheard a conversation, she jumps to the conclusion that her husband is trying to kill her. When you only hear one side of a conversation, you can easily jump to conclusions. I liked the characters and enjoyed the mystery surrounding a special Christmas gift. In this story communication was missing along with trust from Paige. It made for a good lesson in marriage. Will Paige learn to communicate better with her husband? It’s a fun read and I couldn’t wait to see how it ended.

Holiday Pursuit by Alexa Verde

Brianna sure has her hands full trying to keep her brother Liam out of trouble. I really liked that she had been in the service because I think that helped her handle her brother better. They haven’t had a good life growing up and Brianna feels responsible for Liam. The story is pretty action packed and moves very quickly. I loved how the author wrote how much Brianna depended on God. It was nice to hear her pray as problems arose with her brother. Liam gets into a real mess which puts his life and Brianna’s in danger. Will Brianna be able to protect her brother before the people looking for him find out where he is? The story is good and has a good message about family and Christmas.

Holiday Intrude by Denise Weimer

Kelsey was so easy to like. I loved her creativity and her compassion for others. I found her shop to be very fascinating. I love going to shops and looking at antiques. The store was not doing well and Kelsey was becoming concerned. I really liked Tyler and thought he was a fair and nice person. He lets Kelsey come out to the family’s place to hopefully find treasures for her shop. I loved the mystery surrounding who was helping her catch up on her bills. I kinda thought I knew who it was, but the author does a good job of keeping readers guessing. From the moment Nick is introduced, I didn’t like him, he seemed arrogant and selfish. I’m not sure if he had his eyes on Kelsey or if he was using her in some way . The author kept me on my toes as Kelsey’s place is burglarized. With a few suspects, I enjoyed trying to figure out who was behind the burglary. This was a great story filled with deceit, faith and a great ending,

Christmas Murder Mix-Up – Joanie Bruce

This one had me laughing and, I’ll admit, shouting at Paige. A cute story that takes a twist!! Author Joanie Bruce does a great job of connecting the reader to her characters.

Holiday Pursuit – Alexa Verde

Goodness, this one kept me on the edge of my seat. Author Alexa Verde, as always, has you wondering what’s next!? A page turner you’re sure to enjoy.

A Holiday Intruder – Denise Weimer

Can you solve the mystery? Who gets the girl? Who’s the “bad guy”? Author Denise Weimer will leave you guessing right to the end.

Holly, ivy and Intrigue

I enjoy reading box sets with short stories. A chance to discover authors, only one I had read her books before. Three very enjoyable and interesting mysteries.

Christmas murder mix-up by Joanie Bruce

Paige thinks her husband of four months is trying to get rid of her. Cooper is not but thru him giving her a watch he got at a pawn shop and the owner trying to get it back Paige is now confused. This book had me from the first wood, my first book by Joanie Bruce and I am definitely have to see if she has other books.

Holiday Pursuit by Alexa Verde

A fast moving book that would make a good clean action film. Brianna is trying to find her brother and a killer of the person that was found in trunk of a car. This book will keep your attention and leave you wanting more.

A Holiday Intruder by Denise Weimar

Kelsey owns an antique shop, someone is breaking in and someone she would never suspect. A very interesting book with the antique part of it. Also she has a Christmas benefactor and she thinks she finds who it is but turns out different. I was surprised that the mystery was solved so soon but then surprised again at the end. Love the name of the store.

I received an advanced copy of the book set from Celebrate Lit Publishers.

Holly, Ivy & Intrigue is a Christmas novella. In Christmas Murder Mix-Up by Joanie Bruce, Paige and Cooper have been married for four happy months. After overhearing a phone conversation between Cooper and his best friend, Paige is devastated. What will she do with the information? Turning to her best friend for advice she is encouraged to wait and see. But then there’s the suspicious Christmas present that ticks, a gas leak and a thief brakes into her house. Can her love overcome the fear and mistrust? What a ride this story will take you on. It was very fast paced and well-written. I enjoyed it very much. Never run with something without getting all the facts is very good advice. Through-out the whole ordeal Paige finally realized her need for God. In Holiday Pursuit by Alexa Verde three days before Christmas Brianna Rockwell’s brother gets in trouble and disappears. Now, she must find him before the murderer does. So, she turns to Private Investigator Richard Stone for help. Determined not to let her long-time crush on Richard interfere with finding her brother proves harder than she imagined. This story has a powerful family bond. Through everything that Brianna’s brother put her through she never lost her love for him and always wanted what was best for him. Just like our heavenly Father! Great story. In A Holiday Intruder by Denise Weimer Kelsey Jordan owns a struggling antique shop in a little Georgia town. Looking for new inventory to bring in more customers, she approaches Tyler Jackson with an offer. Mix in a break-in at her shop, an intruder in her home, a mysterious benefactor and you have the makings of an intriguing tale. This story was a delight to read. I enjoyed getting to know the characters. This whole novella collection was a sweet read. As with most novella’s the stories developed fast and came to quick conclusion. I love Christmas suspense so I really enjoyed this set.

I received this e-book from Joanie Bruce in exchange for my honest review.

Great weekend read!
"Christmas Murder Mix-Up" grabs you from the first paragraph! Then it keeps you involved to the end. Heart racing and imagination running ahead of the pages, this story is a well-developed, quick read. Loved it! Part of me wanted it to be longer. Realistically, it is the perfect length for a weekend read. Well worth your time.
"Holiday Pursuit" offers good-cop/bad-cop and good sibling/bad sibling intrigue. While some of the conclusions seemed to just materialize - who the murder victim is - the story as a whole is worth the read. Quick paced, even with the characters moving between several locations, the story keeps you guessing to the end.
"A Holiday Intruder" takes place in Northern Georgia. A place I am familiar with. I loved reading a story that made me think of places I had been and brought back good memories. The mystery keeps the readers attention while the romance develops. Well worth the time to read this one. It makes me want to go back and shop on the square in Dahlonega.

My Thoughts: All together, this was a cozy read. The first two stories start off with a bang and include lots of fast-paced action and even some shootouts. The third one carried more of a family mystery. Each story brought a little romance to the table. As well as a sound Christian message. The novellas are not connected so it makes it easier to pick up or set aside during the busy holiday season.

Christmas Murder Mix-up: This starts off in an almost comical way, but things turn deadly pretty quickly. This was a very interesting, original story.

Holiday Pursuit: Wow! Talk about starting off with a bang. Bullets are flying on the very first page and the story doesn’t slow down much from there.

A Holiday Intruder: This one was more relaxed in terms of action. The love triangle made it a favorite of mine.

Rating and Recommendation: I’m giving Holly, Ivy, and Intrigue 4 stars and recommending it to those who enjoy a bit of action with their Christmas novellas.

I am honored to have been a part of the launch team for this collection of Christmas novellas. I absolutely loved it! I couldn't put it down, and so I read it in one weekend! They are short novellas, but the suspense is gripping. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. The characters were well developed, and I fell in love with each one!  I love Christmas, and I love suspense so this collection was perfect for me. For all the suspense lovers on your list this season, this would be a great Christmas gift! You cannot go wrong with this book, I highly recommend it.

Great Novella Collection of stories that keep you intrigued. Fast paced stories that keep you reading quickly to find out the why behind the mystery. I love that each take place during Christmas and have some romance. The only draw back I see is that I wish they were longer so I could enjoy them longer. Great quick read for the busy season. Joanie Bruce is an amazing storyteller that keeps you on the edge. Alexa Verde is a new author to me and I look forward to reading more. Denise Weimer never fails to deliver in a well rounded story that captures your heart and attention. You can’t go wrong with this collection.

Christmas Mayhem!

If you enjoy mysteries and suspense set around the holidays, don’t miss this collection. Three novellas set around the holidays that are original and enjoyable.

Christmas Murder Mix-Up starts with a new wife overhearing her husband’s phone conversation and assuming he’s plotting to kill her. The sequence of events that follow make her theory believable. With a touch of humor and plenty of intensity, you’ll be rooting for Paige and Cooper to get through the day and enjoy a silent night.

With her brother on the run after a dead police officer was found, Brianna turns to her former foster brother—and long-time crush for assistance. This story showcases an intelligent, resourceful, and strong female character who kicks tail in her own right, but she just might need someone to rescue her in Holiday Pursuit.

Antique and Upcycle store owner Kelsey is facing a failing business but if she can get dibs on the estate of a local man, she might be able to turn things around. In A Holiday Intruder, a break-in, two suitors’ attention, and a benevolent secret Santa keep her plenty busy. Will she discover her heart’s wish before all of her dreams crash around her?

Each of these stories is different than the other and stand on their own well. This collection is hard to put a label on since it’s part cozy mystery, part romantic suspense, part suspense but it comes together for a fantastic and fun holiday read.

Fan art by Nadine C. Keels: not an official book cover

Kelsey has a passion for antiques and upcycling what others consider to be junk, but the little shop she owns hasn't been doing so well. She's hoping she'll be able to turn things around this holiday season, but a robbery at the shop sets her back in A Holiday Intruder by author Denise Weimer.

I found this ChristFic novella in a collection called Holly, Ivy & Intrigue. It's a Christmastime romance with some suspense woven in, and though there's a love triangle included, it's obvious from jump which guy is the odd man out.

Family history plays a big role in the story, and while some parts of the read are a little rushed and the ending is rather abrupt, the story is easily digestible entertainment with a touch of faith. It satisfied my search for a quick holiday read with intrigue but no murder.

This book is a nice collection of three novellas. Each one contains a little intrigue or romantic suspense and can be read of an evening. Since they are short, there is not a great deal of character development. As is sometimes the case with story collections, the quality of the writing is not consistent. Each short story is good enough to make the entire collection worth reading, however.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.

“Holly, Ivy, Intrigue” (a mystery collection) by Joanie Bruce, Alexa Verde and Denise Weimer

Overall this was an engaging and very enjoyable collection of mystery novellas. While they take place around the holiday season, they are not seasonal reads in any way. They are contemporary mysteries any reader will enjoy. For ages 16 and above.

“Christmas Murder Mix-Up” by Joanie Bruce

A calamity of events leads one woman to think her husband is out to kill her and her husband worries for her welfare. And both include two things that one spouse believes is important to the other.

A fun and engaging murder mystery, with well written characters and a fun storyline.

“Holiday Pursuit” by Alexa Verde

“Death threats to the people she loved was one of Brianna Rockwell’s pet peeves,” (p 1) so begins this novella. It pulls you in from that first paragraph and keeps you engaged through to the end. With touches of humor, mystery, intrigue, and twists and turns, the author has written an in-depth and enthralling novella. Her characters are well written and true to life, her storyline is strong and fast paced. A definite must read for those who love short yet full murder mysteries.

“A Holiday Intruder” by Denise Weimer

An enjoyable novella about an antique shop owner; two men who are attracted to her, or so they seem; a young man desperate for work who is feeling negatively judged by others; and the co-owner of the shop who urges Kelsey to be open to the men and the shop picking up sales wise.

Add in vandalism, male competition, a wealthy family, two introverted shop owners, and some mysterious goings on, good and bad and you have a mystery on your hands.

Who is breaking into her shop and her home and why?? Some may think they know and be wrong, while others may think they know and be right...
