***3.5 Stars***

This was an enjoyable and quick read featuring two of my favorite tropes....fake dating and friends to lovers. But the author doesn't stop there....she also gives me a big, fat cherry on top with the hero secretly being in love with the heroine for years. And you know what that means? Pining!

Though there wasn't much time to give me a deeper development of the MC's, I liked JT and Hallie, and the story was easy to get sucked into. You believed their connection right from the start.

Unfortunately, I liked the first half more than the second. The big reveal and drama with Hallie's ex in the second half felt too much like a soap opera moment. Also, I think JT and Hallie's crossover into lovers was a little too easy. I could have used a little bit more than a quick light bulb moment and an "Okay, I love you let's do this."

But, overall, I enjoyed the novella and will definitely be checking out more from this author.

Once upon a time this book appeared in my timeline and I became instantly obsessed with the new updated cover. I obviously went to get it and found out it was a best friends to lovers + fake dating + pining romance novel, so here I am three days later. I completely adored this book and can't recommend it enough. If you like all the tropes I mentioned above, definitely get it!

JT and Hallie have been best friends for a while. But what Hallie doesn't know is that JT had been in love with her for every single second of their relationship. The story starts when Hallie gets the invitation for her former best friend's wedding. She was once in love with him so returning back home, alone, to his wedding... she doesn't think she can make it without some company. So when she is asked if she is bringing a boyfriend or a companion, she says yes, his name is JT. So here is where the fake dating takes place, in a beautiful island.

I loved how easy JT and Hallie's friendship is and overall relationship. They are always there for each other and make each other laugh when the other one is not feeling their 100%. They made me swoon! I was all in and love to see pining a lot. Practically everyone knows JT is in love with her; his brothers, her best friend, even his grandma. They're the silent cheerleaders of this relationship even if nothing is happening!

Sweet! Sassy! Suspenseful!

I kept wondering why Hallie was so afraid to take the chance and explore a romance with J. T., her best friend. He is absolutely the perfect guy for her.

However, when all of her secrets, baggage and disappointment, with the people who were supposed to love and protect her, were revealed, it suddenly made sense. Hallie is a sweetheart and deserved so much better!

Too bad there's not a book showing Karma slapping the hell out of Cameron, Charmaine and Mindy.

What a despicable crew!

Will You Be Mine was an impulse purchase (brand new to me author) after someone shared the cover on twitter - can you say hot?! - and, even better, I found out it was a friends-to-lovers and fake dating romance.
Winner!

The book was flirty and fun with Hallie and JT's chemistry lighting up the pages. They were a couple I was rooting for despite the fact Hallie's blindness to JT's feelings occasionally got on the nerves!
I was expecting a light-hearted romance but what the story actually delivered was an emotional punch alongside dramatic fireworks surrounding Hallie's ex-best friend's wedding. It gave the characters depth and the way JT handled everything made me adore him even more than I did already.

Will You Be Mine is book two in a series featuring JT's siblings and I think I'll be checking the others out... Especially with the tease of an ending obviously intended to launch the next brother's book!

I picked this up after a glowing recommendation from Jess at PeaceLoveBooks. I was very excited for the friends-who-fake-date-turn-lovers trope and all at a wedding in Antigua. Yes please.

Unfortunately, this went from bad to worse very quickly. The beginning is so slow that it was quite boring to read. It was quite a climb to get to the halfway mark but I pushed through because it was said that from about halfway onwards it gets so much better. Yeah, well, it doesn’t.

Firstly, I expected more fake dating nuances such as going along with the other person’s closeness, touches and caresses all the while trying to convince yourself that it is still all pretend. There was NONE of that! JT just went straight to kissing Hallie at the first gathering of the wedding week and if I had blinked too fast, I would have missed the entire scene. That’s how quickly it came and went. The fact that they share a hotel room and sleep in the same bed is done without an afterthought. Where is the tension? Where is the angst? Where is the wondering? There is none of that. I know they have been friends since NYU (this fact is repeated so many times throughout this short book that it becomes nauseating after a while) but shouldn’t there still be some awkwardness or discomfort when it comes to intimate situations?

Hallie is so annoying. She is meant to be this hotshot associate at a prestigious law firm but she has no backbone when it comes to her personal life. She becomes quite timid and reserved when it comes to being around her friends and the wedding party. She actually says in the book that she tries her best to avoid confrontation as a rule. You’re a LAWYER Hallie!! Confrontation is meant to be your party trick.

Another thing that just didn’t sit right with me is when the reader is FINALLY made privy to the big, bad, dark secret, the very secret that results in Hallie being so darn awkward around her ex and everyone else she left behind from her teen years, it is as a result of, you guessed it, beating around the bush MISCOMMUNICATION. We all know how I feel about that trope. If it was done well it would not have bothered me as much because it is an emotional experience that Hallie went through but it wasn’t done well. The manner it was treated annoyed the heebie-jeebies out of me.

Also, if someone goes through something that traumatic involving their ex, then why even entertain the idea of attending their wedding. Actually, why even think of going to an ex’s wedding in the first place, regardless of the extra baggage Hallie and her ex have. If the hurt is still so raw then there is no way a person would attend the wedding, especially since they haven’t spoken since the trauma and has no desire clear the air either. Yet, when Hallie receives the wedding invitation at the beginning of the book, she ponders over it for about two seconds then says yes to going to the wedding. Huh?

All this extra drama also took away from the relationship between JT and Hallie and had me skimming the last 20% of the book.

Lastly, the editing needs work. The amount of spelling and grammatical errors threw me for a loop and sometimes took me out of my reading zone.

4.75 stars I really enjoyed this. I put it down several times but only because I was reading it too fast and it would have been over sooner. I think Ms. Adams has such a way with words and she really knows how to write the elite trope that is friends to lovers. JT was deep in the pining but he was one of the best support systems for Hallie. She might have been a little too blind to the longing, but once she got with the programm, it was brilliant. While this wasn't anywhere near as angsty as The Gift, this was a fantastic read all the same and I cannot wait to pick up Orlando's story.

This was a surprising read! It had a really dramatic scene and a plot twist that I was not expecting at all, though I loved both! I didn’t particularly love the “women fighting for a man” trope or the gendered insults but overall it is one of the best novellas I’ve read so far.

Not much of a review but more of a concern about two thing:
1. How did Dustin do with the case Hallie was supposed to spearhead?
2. Did Hallie ever get to tease JT about how he pouts his lips when he sleeps?

Otherwise such a cute, straight to the point book, we got background without the story dragging also it's cute seeing how the siblings again interact with each other from another siblings perspective.

Liked Hallie and J.T., plus all their friends and family.

I thought the story jumped too quickly, and it felt rushed and unnecessary in places.

Beautiful Story

This was a beautiful story from beginning to end. I love a good friends to lovers story and this did not disappoint.

JT’s love for Hallie was palpable. At times it felt as though his feelings would jump off the pages.

Hallie wasn’t as clueless as I first thought. It was clear she loved JT but her past was haunting her and holding her back.

Initially I was convinced that I would be disappointed to learn Hallie’s true reason for still being so angry with Cameron. I thought it would be something silly and whimsical. It turned out to be much deeper and a lot more realistic than expected.

The only downside is I would’ve loved to learn more of JT and Hallie’s after story but I’m sure there’s more to see of them in the next books of the series.

3.5 Stars.

I enjoyed this second book in the Falling Like A Johnson series. I’m totally into the Johnson family now and can’t recommend their dramas enough. The premise of this novel is that JT and Hallie are best friends but unbeknownst to Hallie, JT is massively in love with her but is afraid to say anything lest it ruins their friendship. Meanwhile Hallie is in unrequited love with her childhood crush and estranged best friend, Cameron. Things come to a head when Cameron invites Hallie to his wedding to her nemesis and she decides to go taking JT along as her fake boyfriend.

I think this was a great addition to the series with cameos from the rest of the family we already got to know and love from The Gift (Book 1) in the series. This book actually reminded me of one of my least favourite romantic comedies- the Julia Roberts classic, My Best Friend’s Wedding, except more satisfying. Fake boyfriend and unrequited love are not my favourite tropes but the author did a fabulous job keeping me turning the pages and overall this was good and it’s reeled me in to check out Book 3 next.

Boring. There’s this huge emotional secret that takes the forefront of Hallie’s focus so I didn’t feel like there was any room to make her suddenly falling for best friend plausible. One minute she’s not even thinking about this man and the next she’s like... “I love him? question mark?” The emotions were literally sped up in three lines that led to them banging. No buildup, no chemistry, there weren’t even some cute scenes of them pretending to be a couple that could have added to their leading attraction. He kept hesitating to make moves on her so when they got together in the end it was weird. And the catty bullshit with her ex’s fiancée and the fiancées friend felt so dramatic and cliche I just had to roll my eyes. It was a little much and I just felt like it wasn’t flushed out well enough. On that note though, I can’t wait to read the first book in the series. I’ve been learning about the power in giving author’s a chance to prove me wrong. It’s been fun and ends up more satisfying than I thought. Besides, certain plots work better or worse for certain ppl. Maybe her slightly mysterious plot will do more for me. 🤗

RATING: 3 STARS

Rilzy Adams has quickly become one of my favorite authors and I have loved every single book I’ve read from her. However, Will You Be Mine? fell short for me. This is the second book in the Falling Like a Johnson series which follows the Johnson siblings in their love life. Will You Be Mine? follows JT and his best friend Hallie who he’s been in love with for ages.

The first half of this book was good. The writing wasn’t amazing and the dialogue didn’t feel natural at times but the story was still enjoyable. I liked both characters and I thought JT and Hallie had good chemistry; I just would’ve liked to see it fleshed out more. This story is short, under 150 pages, so there’s not much time to establish the romance and growth. The second half goes by pretty quickly and the ending was rushed.

I was expecting more from this story. It had two of my favorite tropes, fake dating and friends to lovers, but I was left disappointed. I will still be reading the rest of the books in this series. The epilogue sets up an intriguing plot for the next installment so we’ll see where it goes.

From start to finish, this was a lovely narrative. The narrative moved along smoothly and authentically. I like the reference to Antigua and how precisely the author described the surroundings, the inhabitants, and their way of thinking. As a Caribbean girl seeing different Caribbean cultures showcased in books is really a dream come true for me. I adore stories about friends who become lovers, and this one did not let me down. It was clear how much JT cared for Hallie. At moments, it seemed as though his emotions were going to burst through the pages. Hallie wasn't quite as stupid as I first believed. She obviously cared for JT, but her history was chasing her and keeping her from being herself. I initially believed that learning Hallie's real motivation for continuing to be so upset with Cameron would disappoint me. I anticipated something ridiculous and quirky. Unexpectedly, it turned out to be a lot deeper and more grounded in reality. The one drawback is that I would have liked to learn more about JT and Hallie's post-apocalyptic lives, but I'm sure we'll learn more about them in the series' upcoming books.

Better than the first book in the series

3.5 stars

I definitely liked this one more than the first book in the series but the ending had me annoyed. I fully get that she was setting up the next book with the Orlando piece at the end, but what a weird way to wrap up the Hallie and JT story. It felt unfinished and abrupt, maybe that was just me but it bothered me. I did like the writing this time way more than the first book, way less grammatical errors. I felt like she actually let the characters dialogue more than just narrating what was happening/said, which is what I wished she did in the first book. As for the characters, as much as it made sense that they would be able to get engaged so quickly after getting together because they had been friends for five years, it still felt a little rushed and unrealistic to me.. idk. If the next one ends in an engagement, I’m truly done with this series cause what fake land are we living in?? I like reality lol. Overall better than the first for sure, this one had me excited to turn the page! Onto the next Johnson book

This story was an eh 🤷🏼‍♀️ read for me, it was okay but I just wanted more. It is a best friends turned lovers romance with a fake relationship involved. Hallie & JT have been friends for 5 years and JT has been in love with Hallie for most of that time. She is not aware of his feelings and scoffs at the idea of them ever being together whenever their mutual friends bring it up. I was expecting this to be more of their romance and relationship since it is such a shorter read, but instead the story was more about Hallie’s past and hang-ups she had. Once her and JT did get together it seemed to happen out of nowhere and I just didn’t really connect with/feel their connection. I read it through my kindle unlimited service and was still glad to give this author a try.

Open Your Eyes And See That I Am In Love With You

Ugh 😡. What away to end a story (not )😡. Not sure whst Mrs. Adams was thinking😯. Yes I am bending over the top with the faces.

This is a story about two people who meet in college. IT had a secret crush on Hallie. Jackie was to wrapped up in past hurt that she just didn't pay attention for five years.

She had to let go past hurt to see that true love there with her best friend.

Book two is a slow read like the first book. Yes I skipped some pages. Was glad things worked out for JT and Hallie.

To end t the review. Not happy how the book ended at eighty percent. I guess we have a book three with Orlando.

I hoped for more

Will You Be Mine was an ok read. I was looking for more sizzle, more emotion, more sexy times. Instead this book explored Hallie’s background and struggle to move on from her childhood crush. I mean Hallie and JT are still just friends until about the 67% mark in the book. The story read like Hallie has no attraction to JT, in fact she even describes him brotherly and finds the thought of him romantically as incest. I was looking for more of a spark, that didn’t happen. It was honestly a bit boring ☹️

JT

Oh, JT is such a sweetheart. The love he had for Hallie was beautiful. Although he was crazy about her, he put his feelings aside to preserve their friendship. Hallie was so oblivious to JT, it was comical. How could she not know. So, sad to know what happened to Hallie during her childhood, but glad she was able to pick up the pieces. Once she released all her pain, she was able to see how much JT cared for her; and that she loved him. Had hoped to find out the reactions of the Johnson clan after the proposal. Maybe next book. Another great read!

Friends to lovers, fake dating, secret pining, all the tropes I love in one book. I really enjoyed this, despite the twist that I did NOT see coming at about the 65% mark. I was already wondering why she was so hung up on attending Cameron's wedding and that confrontation further solidified for me that she maybe shouldn't have bothered. But I really liked the setting and the two main characters and the romance and I love a good secret pining book and I would 100% read this author again. I'm including CW but they are spoilery.

ohhhh this was so good actually. i really enjoy reading romance whenever i need a palette cleanser in between some more exhausting things like multiple non fiction books. but this was actually so good and it has all my favourite tropes (i’m a sucker for fake dating and pining - i’m just emotionally horny like that). but also it has the right amount of “angst” to be engaging but not to drag you along on a trauma-cruise.
i loved this, i really, really genuinely loved this.
