Gargi Kapoor is the only one convinced her brother, Dev, is innocent of the crime he was convicted of. When he is sent to the hospital with an unexplained paralyzing disease she finds herself having to lean on the last person she’d ever want to depend on -- a man who wants her brother to pay for stealing his mother’s life savings.

Leon Reckley is extremely satisfied to find the man who ripped his mother off suffering from an unknown disease that leaves him paralyzed and in need of rehabilitation therapeutic services. He’s even happier when he is given the opportunity to be the therapist that makes him fit enough to return to prison to finish his sentence. No one will work harder to make sure Dev Kapoor serves every minute of his prison sentence.

Gargi never dreamed the man who has utter contempt for her brother would be the man she slowly begins to trust. Leon never thought he’d be convinced Dev might be innocent, let alone be drawn to his enemy’s little sister. Together, will they find the truth? Or when Leon’s job is over, will it simply be time to say goodbye?

I love this cover - and it completely represents the romantic tension between the main characters in this very engaging story. This goes beyond a simple romance into issues of trust, forgiveness, family relationships, cultural differences, and a clear Christian perspective. I was intrigued by the cultural details (I know little about Indian culture) and don't know of any other novels that focus on a romance between characters across these two cultures. Very unique and absorbing story that I definitely recommend.

"Time to Say Goodbye" by Parker J. Cole

My Thoughts....

"Time to Say Goodbye" was definitely a captivating read that will keep your attention. I liked how this author gives the readers a good read of Indian culture through their cuisine, customs and language. The plot of the story which mainly deals with Gargi, Dev and Leon and a few other secondary characters that were all well developed, defined and portrayed giving the reader a very intriguing read. I loved how this love story develops between Gargi and Leon. Will they be able to reach their HEA with all that is going on with twist and turns all over the place in this engaging read? I also loved the family relationship between Gargi and her brother. However, I was sorry to see what happens to a family when a trust has been betrayed. Well, I will stop here and say you will have to pick up the well written novel to see how well it has been presented to the reader. Would I recommend? YES it was indeed a good read.

Again, I'll reserve most of my thoughts for the official review on the RW website.

Language: ✩✩✩✩✩. No bad language. In fact, Alma actually lectures Krause for using the phrase "bug up your behind".

Abuse: ✩✩✩✩🟉. There was some emotional manipulation, and a brother that is more controlling than healthy. Some underlying racism.

Lust: ✩✩✩✩. One mention of a prostitute/woman that gets passed around from man to man (called a "doorknob"), some passionate kissing and desire for more kisses.

Review of the Book: ✩✩✩🟉. I actually came close to putting the book down because I was sick of the attitudes of the characters and the way the romance was being handled at first, but it redeemed itself at the end when Leon showed he actually did care about Gargi.

This was such a wonderful read! I loved it even more than the first book in the series. I loved both main characters, they were so genuine and it was lovely to watch the development and growth of the characters from the beginning of the story to the end. I think this is the first story that I've read that featured an Indian main character, I love to see diverse characters in Christian fiction! And all the details of Gargi's Indian culture added a fabulous layer of depth and richness to the story, which completely fascinated me! I loved the romance in this book, it was so sweet, and there were oh so many sigh-worthy moments.
I loved everything about this book. It was an absolute delight to read!
There were several proofreading errors, so I think perhaps it could use another edit, but regardless I am still giving this book five stars because the story was so amazing!

I received a copy of this book from the author, which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

Time to Say Goodbye, by Parker J. Cole, is another home run in the Michigan Sweet Romance series. All of the quintessential elements of her stunning books are present - characters that you love, a plot that keeps you turning the page, and an ending that makes you long for more.

The book opens like every other Parker J. Cole novel - she yanks you from your comfortable position on the couch and immerses you in the scene, the characters, and the story. I felt as if I was there with Gargi as she walked into the prison to meet her brother, and I stayed there with her until the very end. As usual, her characters are so well developed. You will fall in love with Gargi and Leon. She is spunky and he is charming. Their love story isn’t sappy, or filled with false conflict and tension. Their attraction is believable, and so is their struggle. Another beautiful love story with an intriguing and thought provoking plot!

Goodbyes that Lead to Hellos

Parker J Cole never ceases to amaze me with her characters and storylines from her “edgy Christian Romance novels, to her “Michigan Sweet Romance” stories. TIME TO SAY GOODBYE is a Michigan Sweet Romance. The main characters, Gargi Kapoor and Leon Reckley are two of the most unlikely couples that you could imagine, yet they are drawn to each other under highly unusual circumstances. The HEA is to die for. I enjoyed this story and I believe you will too. I recommend it for your reading pleasure.

STORY-LINE:

Gargi Kapoor is a beautiful young woman whose life took a 360-degree turn. Once the toast of the town, famous model, wealthy and sought after, her life now consists of trying to prove her brother, Dev, innocent. Dev convicted in a Ponzi scheme declared his innocence from the beginning. Now, he's very sick, and Gargi researches the disease, as well as, searching for evidence to free Dev.

Leon Reckley, a physical therapist, is assigned to rehabilitate Dev. The rub for Leon is that Dev's criminal activity financially ruined his mother. Leon's determined to restore Dev to health so he can return to prison and serve out his sentence. He has nothing but contempt for the brother and sister.

Neither Gargi nor Leon expect to feel the attraction which slowly begins to blaze between them. Will Leon overcome his bitterness? Will Gargi realize he might be the one for her? Or after his therapy obligation is completed will it be time to say goodbye. My romance book reviews follow.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Parker Cole created a fantastic story in Time To Say Goodbye; filled with deep emotions ranging from contempt, prejudice, loyalty, and of course, clean, sweet romance. Multi-cultural and brimming with kindred loyalty, this story is riveting. Cole grabbed me and did not let go as she introduced the three main players. Each is fiercely loyal to their family; one contemptuous, one devoted, one facing death and re-imprisonment. I could feel the emotions streaming off the pages as Leon and Gargi faced off; as well as, Dev's depression and lack of hope. Parker Cole skillfully portrayed the emotional battles each face.

Family dynamics play a large part in this tale; the reader is taken on a journey of loyalty and allegiance as our two main protagonists face the issues of interracial relationships and guilt or innocence. Cole peppered this novel with Indian family dynamics, culture, food, and arranged marriages, which I found informative and entertaining.

MY OPINION:

With well-developed characters, twists and turns, steady pacing and intriguing seamless plot lines, I could not put my E-reader down. The secondary characters added depth to the storyline; giving the basis for Leon's "trailer trash" obsession and the Kapoor's attitude to arranged marriages and the place of women in the family unit. I found the pacing perfect. With writing which is easy to read, scenes which transitioned smoothly, and characters which are believable, you will find an expertly executed story. As well as, descriptive writing so vivid I could almost smell the Indian food and see the colorful clothing. I loved the time I spent with all the characters. Although faith plays a part in this novel, it is not overpowering. Instead, it is part of their makeup, morals, and an intricate part of their lives. I would not hesitate to buy this novel for myself or a friend.

TIME TO SAY GOODBYE RECOMMENDATION: STARS 4.5

ALSO, PLEASE NOTE:

I purchased this copy and chose to assess this edition with honest romance book reviews voluntarily. Lastly, reviews of any novel are dependent on the author’s opinion. Consequently, all reviews online and on my blog, are my opinions.

This story had two different elements that really intrigued me. The first is the possibility of an intercultural relationship between an Indian woman and typical American man (described ad nauseam as trailer trash). While the book did an excellent job at portraying the external difficulties of such a relationship, with both his mother and her father opposed, it did not begin to scratch the surface of the internal difficulties within such a relationship. I know more than one American-Indian couple and many many more, multicultural couples and understand some common difficulties almost always faced that are barely even hinted at here. While the author has clearly researched Indian culture and language I don't think she truly grasps the dynamic of intercultural relationships.

The second intriguing element in this book is the third person dynamic of the main character's brother. The book revolves around three people: 1) Gargi, the Indian girl caring for her sick, convicted felon brother while also actively investing everything she has to prove his innocence. 2) Leon, the American guy who is her brother's physical therapist and Gargi's budding love interest. 3) Dev, the brother who Leon hates but Gargi adores. The different ways they view him, and his guilt or innocence does add an interesting and very well portrayed tension to the plot.

I have rated over 840 books here on Goodreads. Of all those, probably less than ten would be considered romance novels and more than half those are Nicholas Sparks. Parker J Cole is no Nicholas Sparks. I was thinking of calling this book Danielle Steele meets Bollywood, but honestly I don't have any idea about Danielle Steele so I have no idea how valid the description would be. The book was readable but I didn't truly enjoy it. How much of my reasons why are this book and how much the genre, I don't know. I didn't buy into many of the characters motivations and actions. While on the surface, Gargi did remind me of some Hindi ladies I have known, deep down nobody truly seemed real or worth getting behind. And, my goodness, any time anything in the novel is described, it is done so using food references. I think chocolate was visual descriptor at least twenty times. Other notable appearances were made by honey, caramel, mocha, and almond. I feel like I gained five pounds just reading this book.

I all, if you like reading Christian romance novels, you will probably like this book. If you don't like romance novels, you probably won't. For me... it was an interesting break from my normal reads but not anywhere close to the top half of what I've read this year.

Time to Say Goodbye is about Gargi Kapoor, a sister not willing to give up on her brother, Dev, no matter what he is accused of doing. It is also about the Reckley’s, who are hurting from the supposed actions of Dev. The Kapoor’s and Reckley's encounter each other again as Leon Reckley is assigned to be Dev Kapoor’s therapist for rehab. You can see where this story is going.

My Thoughts

The book cover was well put together. I feel it represents a bond and loyalty between two individuals. It made me want to read the back of the cover. It did its job as well as the interior of the book.

The plot and structure of the book helped me connect with the characters. The transitions throughout the book made it easy to keep up with the storyline. The unsuspected twists in the story were worth it.

It was easy to connect with Gargi because of her love for her brother. I love her attitude in the book after seeing Leon the second time and calling him Lyle, which made me laugh because I knew it was on purpose. She is a strong but stubborn character. Dev’s insight about his surroundings, his emotional state and his stance on his innocence helped me stay in tune with his character. Leon’s anger is understandable but his willingness to care for a man whom he feels has committed a wrong towards his family shows his integrity. Gargi and Leon’s interactions throughout the story were entertaining.

The message I take from Time to Say Goodbye is family is important and you do what you can to protect them. I truly enjoyed the cultural aspect of the book as well as the love connection within it. I recommend this book to Christian fiction readers.

I was very fortunate to win a copy of this book through a GR contest and while I very much enjoyed the premise of the story, I felt many aspects of the book could have been expanded upon. The interracial relationship was intriguing and the background into the culture was well detailed and realistic, but I found the relationship itself was missing real elements. The conflicts in the beginning were well explored and then resolved much too quickly. I enjoyed the book, but wish the romance was the focus and not the brothers many challenges.

Time to Say Goodbye

I was pulled in from the first page and the story would not let me get back to my regular life until I finished reading. Gargi was beautiful and loving. She is the kind of person you want to have in your life. Leon, well he had to grow on me, but I liked his honesty. He did not sugarcoat anything. Anyone who reads this story will not be disappointed, because the story will keep you engaged. And I would love to see this story become a movie.

enjoyed the story. The characters were well developed and realistic. It shows how actions of one can repercussion on many. There were twists, strong family bonds in the story and took a lot for Leon and Gargi to find their way.

A Sweet Treat!

This book was an interesting peek into Hindu family relationships and the love between a brother and sister. It was also a sweet peek into forgiveness when a family member betrays the trust that is central to family relationships.

I have very mixed feelings about this book. I will start out by stating that I don't normally enjoy romances... they just don't settle well with me. And I have to force myself to read through them as I groan, "Really!?" This book was no exception. First I'll give content rating, though. And then tell you all what I thought.

Language: ✰✰✰✰ The language was decent, but there was some times when the characters would use vulgar substitutes. While this wouldn't bother most, it will a few. The worst one was one instance of 'fricken'.

Abuse: ✰✰✰✰ The MC female tried to attack the MC male a few times, but it was humorous as she was pretty frail compared to him. There was some angry yelling.
Lust: ✰✰✰ Though it was never extremely bad the characters definitely thought about each other's looks and appearances a lot and fantasized about all that ;D But all in the terms of "kissing, being in each other's arms, and marriage." So, while kept appropriate it was a big part of the book. Still would bother many people.

And now my thoughts. To be honest, I did not like any of the main characters. They were supposed to be Christians, but they never really displayed a very loving, Christ-like attitude, nor was the hateful attitudes the main characters possessed in the beginning of the book ever truly dealt with. The MC's were very angry and self-righteous. And not too likable. Unless you want to consider their looks... but for me it's character over appearance ;D

The only character I absolutely loved was Naveen, but he's a small minor character you hardly see. Also, I sorta liked Dev. Of course all the other characters had their likable moments.

The whole prison thing wasn't too realistic either. Our family has done a lot with prison work. It would not be that easy to get someone released from prison into a hospital. Most likely he'd just be sent to a prison infirmary. If they were able to manage getting him into a real hospital the prisoner would have been handcuffed to the bed at all times, no matter how weak and sick he was. And he'd have guards at all time, too. The government doesn't just let a prisoner free. Even if he were dead he'd have been handcuffed. Prisoners have absolutely no rights (or little) and being sick gives them no exemptions. Family pleas don't matter.

All that aside, I really enjoyed the twist at the end with Dev. I totally did not see that coming. The ending was both sad and sweet, and I loved the ending. I also thought the nicknames the MC's had for each other were cute and funny and unique. I liked those. And I liked the character names in the story.

Overall: ✰✰✰ There will be many that will overlook the inaccuracy of the prison scenario and it won't bother them. I think romances can get away with more ;D This book wasn't my cup of tea, but I'm sure romance lovers will enjoy it. And overall, it was pretty clean.

A captivating read.

As someone who has grown up among Indian culture, I think the author did a great job making the smell and taste of Indian cuisine come alive to her audience, and conveying the language and customs of Indian culture. The story grabbed my attention from the beginning and kept it right up to the end. The plot had enough twists and turns to keep me wondering what would happen next, and the revelation about Dev in the end, while it didn’t come as a complete surprise, left me disappointed.

Since this is a Christian novel, I expected the heroine’s love interest would also be a Christian as she is, but it doesn’t seem clear that Leon is, and it didn’t seem to matter to Gargi whether he was Christian or not. I felt the ending to be a bit rushed, and was disappointed that we didn’t get a glimpse into seeing Gargi and Leon finally being free to love each other. On a technical note, I picked up more than a few typos, which I felt distracted from the story. Still, I’ll recommend this book and have given it four stars.

In "Time to Say Goodbye" two people who have every reason to hate one another fall in love. I love this kind of romance novel and I was captivated by this story from the first page. There are many obstacles standing in a way of Gargi Kapoor and Leon Reckley's love, but they manage to overcome all of them. First there is their background, then there is internal conflict and finally there is a huge cultural difference between them. It may seems too much for one romance novel, but Parker J. Cole (the author) did a magnificent job in maneuvering Gargi and Leon to their HEA. Furthermore the author did a great job in keeping the tension between the hero and heroine without involving mental lusting or hot love scenes. So "Time to say Goodbye" is in another words a very sweet romance novel without any hot and sexy scene.
