Rate this book
Jack Brighton and Lawson Gale have been together for six months and are very much in love. Lawson’s work ensuring the survival of the Tillman Copper is as demanding as ever, and Jack’s work with the regeneration of the bushfire-ravaged national park is just as hectic.
When Jack suggests they take a short trip, Lawson agrees. But then he is offered a two-week research position in tropical Queensland to help determine why the Ulysses butterfly is on the decline. Figuring they could combine work and pleasure, Jack and Lawson go on their first vacation together.
Working alongside renowned professor Piers Bonfils isn’t easy. But personal and professional differences aside, Lawson is offered a more permanent role in Queensland. Torn between his new life in Tasmania with Jack and a dying species of butterfly he feels compelled to save, Lawson has to decide where his fate lies.
But fate changes the rules. On a research expedition into the depths of the rainforest, suddenly it's not only the butterflies’ existence that hangs in the balance.
A butterfly’s life cycle never changes. From larvae to imago, their course is plotted by design. Jack and Lawson need to determine where they stand, if they live through it. Because the only thing more incredible than one imago is two.

So much joy! I needed butterflies today, and this book made me immeasurably happy.

Lawson and Jack are crazy in love, even as another butterfly adventure awaits.

This time, Lawson is asked to investigate why a butterfly species is dying out, both in captivity and in the wild. Jack travels with him on a work holiday that ends with a near tragedy.

Who knew butterfly hunting could be so dangerous?

My favorite thing about this book is the tenderness between the men. Lawson and Jack couldn't be any more perfect for each other.

Forget the relationship angst. Imagines is all about unconditional support and love (and love-making!).

We meet the parents and travel to the rainforest. There are tears and laughter and a butterfly house. Lawson steps up, and Jack says YES.

The epilogue is perfect(er), and the deleted scene had me grinning like a fool (*cough charlie cough cough* wait for it!).

One Imago is strong; two Imagines are unstoppable.

I wish this weren't the end, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

"In entomology,we have a term called imagines. It's the plural of imago. And if imago is one butterfly reaching it's full potential, then surely we,together, would be imagines."

And the cuteness continues...
I couldn't love Jack and Lawson more...

They're six months into their relationship.Jack has some vacation time and they are planning a trip when Lawson is offered a two week research program to look into the decline of the Ulysses butterfly. So,they decide to combine work and leisure and set off to Queensland.

There is no relationship angst at all here, just an adorable love story.
Lawson is just as feisty as ever and I loved him getting bossy in the bedroom again.
And,Jack (swoon)....who wouldn't want a boyfriend like him? I adored him, being so protective and taking care of Lawson.

There is a bit of drama and Lawson finds himself with an important decision to make but you always know these two will make it

And the Epilogue couldn't have been more perfect.I could read about these two all day long and never get bored.

Highly Recommended series.

Wonderful sequel! I love Jack and Lawson. Another butterfly adventure, that was just what I needed. Though this one almost turned into a tragedy!! Thank Heavens for Jack and his other job as a life-saver.
Everything got tied into a neat little bow tie at the end, making for a cherished read throughout. :) Loved it.

Imagines is such a wonderful followup to Imago. Absolutely gorgeous with imagery that took my breath away and a pairing that just made my soul sing. I absolutely love Lawson and Jack.

The story picks up a few months after Imago left off, with Lawson assisting Professor Warner Tillman with the conservation and study of the Tillman Copper butterfly and working toward his doctorate. Things between Lawson and Jack are perfect, though, Jack really wants Lawson to move in with him. Meanwhile, Lawson doesn't want to rush. But you get Lawson and Jack in the same room and they are completely drawn to one another.

“I love it when you hug me like that.”
He nudged his nose to my ear. “Like what?”
“Like it feeds your soul.”

In Imagines, Lawson is invited to Queensland to help find the cause of the decline of the Ulysses butterfly. They're dying and no one knows why. So Lawson and Jack combine a holiday with Lawson's work and set off to Queensland for a couple weeks. We have the anticipation of a first vacation together as well as Jack and Lawson being ready to take their relationship to the next level. Such wonderful anticipation!

I want to take a minute to thank NR Walker for not taking the angst to the "competitor" level. While I didn't trust Piers Bonfils, at all, I was happy he didn't pose a problem for our guys. Nope, the uncertainty and angst came from something else altogether. And I was holding my breath the whole time and even though I knew NR Walker wouldn't do that to us, still, the emotion it drew from me was thick.

Jack and Lawson are meant to be together. Forever and always. Their time in Queensland illustrated quite well, just to what lengths they will go for love and though life is terribly fragile, love is a force to be reckoned with.

“In entomology, we have a term we call imagines. It’s the plural of imago. And if imago is one butterfly reaching its full potential, then surely we, together, would be imagines."

Also, there was a deleted scene after the epilogue that I hope hope hope is included in the finished book. That scene was not necessary to the story that Imagines told, but I am a huge fan of homages to characters from other books and this one made me squee! Thank you, Nic!

I would definitely recommend both Imago and Imagines. They are fantastic and altogether gorgeous (with a side of adorkable). Plus -- butterflies and bow ties! And Aussie men -- what's not to love! Also, for those that have been wondering if Jack and Lawson get their HEA here? YES and it is a gorgeous HEA. There might have even been a tear or two.

NR Walker, once again, brings us adorkably wonderful Aussie men falling in love and I loved every single minute of this series.

Highly recommended!

3.5 Cute Stars

Well, I just can say it was a good-easy read. I loved the first installment in this series but this one fell flat for me. For the first half I really struggled and I wanted to lost-interested it but then it got a little exciting and then again it fell flat. Maybe I read it at the bad timing because I’m in a bad mood. But to be honest, I liked those two adorable characters; they’re so cute and so perfect for each other. They know each other completely.

The story told in dual POV, 1st person. Imagines is the second installment in Imago series and it should be read in order. Hope you enjoy it!

It's official. I am in love with both Lawson and Jack.

One of the things I love the most about N.R. Walker's writing is how she can take such normal things, but make them so completely extraordinary.

I loved this.

I thought it fit well with Imago. Imagines seemed well-researched, though I'm no lepidopterist, with Jack and Lawson going to Queensland for a work vacation and Lawson trying to determine why the Ulysses butterfly keeps dying so soon after imago.

I loved the dual POV, and, best of all, I loved how beautifully romantic it was throughout.
“Jack, there are species of Lepidoptera all over this world, but there are none―none―like those I experience when I’m with you. You are quite possibly the most perfect man, with the kindest heart, and you make me strive to be a better person. And this here—”I looked around us, the Tasmanian countryside, Rosemary off sniffing around the garden, this perfect piece of life. “It’s everything I want for the rest of my life. I want to grow old with you, right here.

I loved it! This series, like many of Walkers' series, has just been a joy to read. Ferguson brings the story to life with an extremely enjoyable listen.

This is a perfect example of why I don't normally read series with the same MCs. It's a great book and fans of the series will love it. But I was so damn bored. Too sugary sweet, no conflict to be found. Jack is just too perfect for my tastes. I also felt that they took the condom issue way too far. My favorite scene was the deleted scene in the end.

Still, I do recommend it for the fans of the author and the series. That was mostly a personal preference thing.

We learned in Book 1 that these books center around butterflies - both Lawson's career studying them and the butterflies that take flight in his stomach at the though of Jack.

As gooey sweet and satisfying as Book 1 was, Book 2 is even more so. It's six months into the future from where Imago ended, and Jack still wants Lawson to move in with him. Lawson is dying to, but doesn't want to jinx the amazing relationship they have so far.

Some vacation time for Jack and a plea for help from another lepidopterist takes our boys to another part of the country in this installment.

While there is some low-key angst from external forces in this one, the relationship angst was nil. And I really wanted some, if I'm being honest. I love relationship angst (the non-manufactured non-drama variety), but this one bordered on too sweet.

It ticked off most of my boxes, because Walker is a brilliant writer, and it left me feeling like I was cuddling with a cloud. Definitely a strong follow up to the first.

P.S. Do not miss the deleted scene at the end! Holy crap!

Maybe a bit sappy. Maybe a bit cheesy at times.

But sweet. And full of smiles.

And there were butterflies.

Great series if you're looking for something easy, low angst, a bit fluffy, and with moderate steam.

4.25 butterfly kisses stars!

This was pure hearts so sweet, and tender, just lovely. Lawson/Jack are just as amazing as ever and so in love. This second book was so right for the continuation of their story as we see them already officially together. There's something special about these two guys that just steals your heart. There's so passionate about each other, never any doubts or insecurities in their love it's just mind blowing. And off they go to another adventure to try and save another butterfly species with a couple of bumps on the road but always saving the day! The epilogue was the sweetest most perfect ending. ❤

Jack and Lawson are back and are as adorable as they were in Imago. Full of butterflies, literally and figuratively.

First “working” vacation together for Jack and Lawson, with adventures in the forest and commitment at the end of the road. No angst, just love with a swooning epilogue and a brief snippet of Charlie.

Imago and Imagines are the best “fluffy” read ever. Thank you, N.R.Walker !!

My problem with the previous book Imago was it wasn’t the book I expected. This one I enjoyed so much more. I knew going in it would just be a beautiful sweet read and it was.

Lawson is offered a research position in Queensland. Since Jack has vacation time they go together.

These two are simply beautiful together. And the epilogue was the icing on the cake.

Getting organised to go on a ten-day working vacation with Lawson was as funny as it was frightening. To say he was pedantic was an understatement. He had lists. Lots of lists. He had lists for his work equipment― which I understood― but he also had lists for everything else. Including me.....

I was more of a “pack on the day you leave” kind of guy.
When I told Lawson that, he couldn’t speak and his eye twitched.

4.5 Stars!

This was a really fabulous continuation of Jack and Lawson’s love story. I’ve not made it a secret that I enjoy visiting couples in their day to day lives, and this fit the bill perfectly.

Six months later things are going strong, and when an impromptu working vacation presents itself, Jack and Lawson set out to investigate the slow decline and possible extinction of a particular butterfly. What ensues again is an interesting take on the flora and fauna aspect as seen in Imago, as these two work perfectly together to solve a puzzle. There’s a bit of harrowing suspense which only further strengthens their feelings towards each other, erasing those teeny tiny little doubts and insecurities they may have had lurking in the corners.

And, just like the first book, this was simply easy reading - a wholly romantic, very feel good, swoony sweet love story. Jack and Lawson are great characters, and they fit together just so, complementing one another in all that they do. Jack especially was absolutely fantastic and so freaking sexy between the sheets. *fans self* I for one am not complaining with this new smexy turn Walker seems to have taken. I only have one thing to say to that - more please. Unf.

And that ending?? So many happy tears! *sniff*

Uh oh. Unpoopular opinion time. This was sweet....sticky, gooey sweet. I loved the first book especially because of its uncomplicated sweetness but this one was overloaded with the corn. In the first book, Jack was still good natured and sweet but he was also a bit of a rugged bear. In this one he reminded me of a puppy with his tail wagging. Not even the bow tie and suspender sexy times worked for me. Now maybe if he actually tied Lawson up with the suspenders?? Nah, not even then :(

But I was glad to see them get their HEA and I did enjoy the butterflies :)

Imagines by N.R. Walker is the follow up to Imago. It takes place six weeks after the end of the first one. Jack and Lawson are very much in love and moving forward into their future. The book starts with them going on a working vacation and what ensues is sweet as pie love story.

My highlights:

-Jack & Lawson. They're still adorable and reading their story made me smile- it's impossible not to. They're perfectly suited for each other. Their respect and adoration for one another were evident with every action.

-Zero relationship angst. There was a bit of anxiety, but it was treated without any unnecessary, contrived drama.

-Dual POV. I can't convey into words how happy I am that in this series we got both POVs.

-The cameos that were made by someone's family members were delightful. ;)

-The pace of the story was smooth and steady.

-Steam *wink, wink*

-And that deleted scene. Please be sure to read it!

N.R. Walker does an outstanding job when it comes to these sweet, low angst romances. She manages to keep readers captivated and coming back for more. Imagines was the perfect escape from the outside world. 5 Stars ♥

*** Imagines; plural for Imago, the transformation...***
Lawson the Lepidopterist and wildlife hunk, Jack are back. It's six months later after the fire and discovery. This is an epic, sweet, and adorable tale where we see our men turn into something more. Jack meets Lawson's diverse family, and they love him.

They proceed to a ten day working vacation in the Cairns rain-forest. Lawson is helping Piers Bonfils with a mystery concerning the Ulysses butterfly, with it's bright blue color,

as it is in danger of extinction. Research is performed, but the answer elusive.

Our men are learning about relationships, each other, and find it's more emotional than they thought. The sexy times are magnificent, hot and dirty, plus we get their witty humor. The facts are presented well, and keep us interested in the story.

The cause of Ulysses deaths is found at great cost, which includes a Cane Toad.
Jack is a hero.

I thought the comparison of the men as Imagines is brilliant.

Highly recommended. ENJOY !

Imago is the story of finding love, bow ties, and butterflies

Lawson Gale is a bow tie wearing butterfly specialist on his way to search for a non existent butterfly. He accidently bumps into the very handsome Parks and Wildlife Officer, Jack Brighton, who ends up giving him a ride. From there, sparks fly. Two totally opposite people, yet they were perfect for each other.

He dressed like it was 1920s and he spoke the Queen’s English like he’d just swallowed the Oxford Dictionary.
He made my chest feel too small for my heart –Jack

I absolutely adored these two. Jack was patient and kind, and Lawson was a sassy talker and had such a dirty little mouth during sex.

Jack started helping Lawson during his expeditions, and Lawson always seemed to get into trouble.

I highly recommend this series, especially if you are a fan of Red Dirt Heart series

Dreamy sigh. I am so totally in love with Jack and Lawson. They could not be more perfecter.

I have a confession. My favorite part of a romance is the beginning, before they get together. I love the getting to know you stage. The chase. The first dates and first kisses. Once that's over and they settle in to coupledom, my interest sometimes wanes.

But not with these two. I loved following Jack and Lawson on their "vacation" to Queensland. Lawson is called in to help figure out why the Ulysses butterfly is on the decline, both in the wild and in captivity. I love how supportive Jack is. He doesn't hesitate to tag along on Lawson's 2 week assignment. Once in Queensland, he supports Lawson's work and ends up helping him figure out what's killing off these butterflies.

The epilogue is perfection and gave me all the happy feelz. But then I got to the deleted scene. OMG! That gave me goosebumps and put the biggest smile on my face :)

Ah, Lawson and Jack are even 'perfecter' in this book. If you need some light and fluffy to make you feel better this is certainly an excellent option!

As ever Lawson is quirky, gloriously nerdy (and so sexy with it) and oh so hot once he gets going. (I love the dichotomy between his very organized and efficient self and his bossy bottom attitude!). I may be a little bit in love with him, too.

Jack is just a hero all the way round: sensitive and understanding, supportive and unselfish, and of course head over heels for Lawson. And he saves his life AGAIN. If you assume that this fact hints at more angst and lots of tension in this book - no need to fret. There are maybe a couple of chapters that are slightly worrying, but we all kind of know this is going to end well.

Maybe that is exactly what I missed. A little bit more of conflict. Some kind of real problem between them. There were possible scenarios - Lawson not wanting to move in with Jack (why on earth anyway, these two are as solid in their relationship as the 'best' of us!), Piers and all his intentions, a new job offer ....

I was heading for a 4 stars rating when the epilogue happened. Which is about the most perfect HEA you can imagine. I loved all of it. That was the epitome of cute and sweet and lovely in the best way! So no choice but up the stars! Which I obliged to more than happily!

N.R. Walker is a superstar when it comes to feel-good stories. And bringing the boys from Red Dirt Heat and Lawson and Jack together is a stroke of genius. Can't wait to read it!

Excellent follow up to Imago and wonderfully heart-warming!

I really enjoyed the first book, didn't see the need for a sequel and now kind of wish I'd ignored it. The book is slow, very slow. Conflicts seem overstated - not opening an envelope, not moving in yet... with no reason. It started like an epilogue to the first book, there was no end result to keep me turning pages.

We meet the boys families, but so fleetingly it barely mattered. Then there's Jack being wonderful. So wonderful I stopped believing in him. It's human to have emotions to get frustrated, to complain when your lover might be moving away to work. Instead he's Mr Understanding. He's also Mr 'better with my hands than my brain' I mean who doesn't stroll around Latin-naming shrubs whilst managing to discover the cause escaping both a renown scientist and his super-smart boyfriend Lawson's exacting calculations? In one afternoon.

Also these guys haven't been together two minutes, the relationship is moving way quicker than this book did! The condom/testing issue, I didn't really get why it was turned into a big issue.

And I felt sorry for Piers Bonfils. He's dared to dream, to feel attraction, but he is unwaveringly polite and respectful. He also mentions a life spent hiding his sexuality but is dismissed as 'being used to guys throwing themselves at his French accent' in a charming bit of racism from Lawson. Lawson who seemed odd in his standoffishness.

This disenchanted me from the first book, knocked the shine off it a bit. I couldn't believe in this saintly Jack and Lawson lost his quirky charm. It was fancy-science talk and sex, on repeat.

This was another gorgeous read by N.R. Walker, featuring two of the most adorable fictional men to ever cross my reading path.

In this lovely sequel to Imago, Lawson and Jack travel to Cairns on a working holiday, where Lawson's expertise has been requested to help investigate why the Ulysses butterfly is dying out.

The two men mix business with pleasure, spending their days working the Ulysses problem and their nights enjoying their first official holiday together.

This was an easy breezy story, with only slight hiccups to happiness occurring in the form of a pesky older professor who tries to tempt Lawson away for good, and more alarmingly, during a harrowing life threatening experience the men find themselves in while out in the wild conducting field work.

The short-lived (but intense) drama served to further establish just how perfect Jack and Lawson are together. And, thankfully, they came out the other side stronger and more in love than ever.

RE-READ: JUL 2022

It's my perfect(er) comfort read! Short but full of emotions: adorable, funny, angsty and endearing.
Will definitely come back for more fluff! ;)

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

I loved it!

Those guys are so sweet and sexy together! :)

The drama was a bit OTT, and some minor things seemed a bit forgotten (like Lawson's bowties...)
And Lawson's tendency to get into trouble could have easily been more annoying than endearing, but I will definitely miss Jack and his lepidopterist a lot!

I feel it in my bones that the whole Imago series will become my comfort read even more than Red Dirt Heart - it's short and fluffy and crazy and steamy, and simply adorable!
