Crooked in Love #1

How To Tempt A Crook

Rate this book
Once upon a time, a man sent a woman to prison, then he got her out. Now he’s fallen in love with her… Complicated, right?

Spencer Chambers has a lot to be sorry for. He’s sorry for sending Kelly Garner to prison for a murder she didn’t commit. He’s sorry for ruining her budding law career. He’s sorry for the part he played in her father’s death. If he were a better man, he’d be sorry enough to stay away from her. But he can’t…

There’s something about Kelly that keeps him coming back to her. There’s something about her that makes him want more than just her forgiveness. Now he wants her love too… but can she look past all the ways he’s wronged her?

Books. Books. Books.

I love looking at them, smelling them, reading them, carrying them, writing them.

I have an addiction. Someone help me.

I'll read anything from historical romance to fast action thrillers, gritty urban to fantasy.

When it comes to writing, I'm more of a romance gal. Expect admirable heroines, swoony gentlemen and some r-rated fun.

I started reading this book but the story line put me off. I don’t think wrongful incarceration of black people is something to romanticize, I am disappointed in the writer because I have enjoyed reading her other books.

I liked this for the most part. I just cant help but cringe at Kelly. She's supposed to be this smart woman who graduated with honors out of law school and she tells a room full of her colleagues that she believe that her client is innocent because she can "see it in her eyes". 😒 Then her man swoops in and gave plausible reasons why the client could be innocent of the crime. There were other cringeworthy moments with this heroine, but I just sat back and enjoyed the romance side of it. Now I moved onto How To Love A Crook which is giving me a more intriguing story and a heroine that I am enjoying so far.

This book was something!!!!!! It didn’t really go that deep into how she was able to forgive this man for basically getting her dad killed and her wrongfully getting put in jail. I don’t understand how they fell in love with each other either.

Was not good

This book was hard to finish! I quit trying after a while. The writing felt amateur-ish to me. It was like reading a cheesy Harlequin novel! Issa no for me!

OMG so boring. A plot was no where to be found and the characters were cut out of cardboard...completely lifeless.

I agree with the other person who posted that having the heroine be a black female who is wrongly convicted is a tough pill to swallow considering how many black people are currently wrongly incarcerated. The romance part was good although I don't think she let him stew at all or was petty as she had planned to be as pay back for his tunnel vision that led to her wrongful incarceration. Also hated how Lawrence had the nerve to blame Spencer's inner turmoil on her. The girl did nothing wrong. She was framed and the prosecution could not wait to nail her due to the ongoing vendetta the guy had with his ex who was the defence attorney. The law stuff started off super cringe and childish but got better. I however did not like how in the end the heroine pulled silly tactics with her partner making him late to an important hearing. These are people lives they are playing with, not a game. It annoyed me as hell

Great Read

An honest portrayal of a second chance romance. Well written and edited with a balance of humour, feelings and hotness. A beautiful novel about love how and forgiveness, that captivates from the start.

Memorable and realistic characters that I could relate to, an intriguing novel that keeps the reader hooked. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this book. A MUST read. Thank you LV 😀

Great Story

Loved it, especially the humorous ending. I wasn't sure whether to get this book at first. From the title I thought it might be a mobster story. But the book started with the heroine's release after being wrongfully convicted of murder and her journey to work with the prosecutor who put her away as a colleague, as a friend and finally as lovers.

I enjoyed the journey.

Great storyline

This was my first book by this author and I am so glad I listened to the ladies in one of my reading groups. Loved the topic could you fall in love that wrongly put you in jail for a crime you didn't commit. This book was a great read from start to finish. I loved the storyline that's what captivated me. I like reading different plots not just the average office romance. Kelly and Spencer were a great couple, loved the storyline all in all great read!

Not disappointed

This was a good book. I follow this author so I was not surprised when the book dropped. After reading the synopsis I wasn't sure what to expect but I got it and I was not disappointed. I'm looking forward to the two remaining books in the series. This one is definitely worth checking out.

Pretty good

A well thought out story. Just get a tad bit annoyed with the female leads back in forth with the male lead. I get that they had a past...and that it definitely had an impact on her life but she had a choice....let's stop blaming lack of control impulses for being in heat.

Opposing council

I enjoyed reading this book. I was engaged from beginning to the end. The characters were likeable and relatable. Kelly was a bit wishy-washy at times, but given her history it was understandable. When Kelly and Spencer finally got together it was HOT!!!!😍😍😍 Great read and definitely recommend reading it. Looking forward to reading Sin and AJ's stories.

Enjoyed the story of Spencer and Kelly. Kelly is sent to prison for a crime she didn't commit, prosecuted by Spencer. He wants to !make of up to her as they begin work at the same law firm. Enjoyed the character development and the conflict as they begin to fall in love with each other. Nice writing.

This was a fairly good read. I will give it an extra star because it surprised me how much I enjoyed it when the premise is one that was initially really objectionable to me. The characters were a bit bland for some reason, I think Kelly's friends sound more interesting so I'll continue with the series. But I just felt there was a bit of something missing, not sure what it was.

This is a new author for me and I am glad that I found her-this book hooked me from the beginning and was really a great read. It has a different romance plot thane the norm and the characters are engaging the pages flew by and I hate that it had to end.

New series

I love the mature characters. Ms. Verji has in depth background on her couples and even secondary characters. Interesting storyline that didn't delve too much into the prison aspect.
Yes chef was great too!

Hate and rivalry

I love how the hate Kelly had for Spencer turn out in her loving him in the end, it shows in life we make mistakes but it how we deal with them. Spencer made a mistake that could cost Kelly a life time of regret but he worked hard and corrected it.

Falling unexpectedly in love

This is an interesting story about a woman who was convicted for a crime she did not committ and the man who put her helped out her behind bars and also got her out after proving her innocence

Loved it

Great start for another series. Loved how Kelly TRIED to keep away from Spencer but he wore her down. Spencer was still guilt ridden on how he convicted her but tried to redeem himself to clear her name.

A real feel good story

I was skeptical of the title, but I am so glad that I decided to go ahead and read this book. I enjoyed reading this story between Spencer and Kelly. It was different in a good way and a real feel good story. The characters and plot were good.

Surprisingly good!!

I say surprisingly because Kelly was a bit much to take, with her back and forth..one minute, she was mad and the next she was ready to jump Spencer's bones! I mean, come on! But I ended up enjoying this book mainly because of Spencer, whew!!

I likes it for the most part. The use of British terminology is weird when the characters are supposed to be American. Lots of insta-love which I'm not a big fan of but it doesn't distract from the growing relationship. This is an easy book to pass the time with.

Highly recommended!👍😉😉

I love it. Kelly denied her feelings for Spencer at first but surrendered to them in the end. They are humorous . I enjoyed the epilogue, very funny.
