Falling for a Rose #5

A Lifetime With You

Rate this book
It was the season that brought families together, for trick or treating, and Thanksgiving dinners. But for Octavia Davenport, this season symbolized an era in her life when she lost everything. For years, Octavia was alone living a moderately single life, but then she met the owner of Rose Security Group, and suddenly things began to change. A blossoming friendship evolved and with it came an unrestrained indulgence to connect with him on every level. Desire had never stirred her until him, and Octavia didn’t want to deny herself what she so hungrily craved.

As the head honcho of the Midwest’s preeminent security firm, Jonathon Alexander Rose is known for his commanding persona. Although his reputation precedes him, Jonathon would rather live his days absent from the limelight, with his sexy audacious best friend, Octavia. His fiery passion for her has been Jonathon’s secret until he can no longer stand to be on the sidelines. When he decides to go after what he wants, nothing will stand in his way.

The Falling for a Rose series follows each member of the Rose family as they explore this thing called love. However, each book is just as enjoyable if read as a standalone as it is if read in the series order.

A Lifetime With You was a hard no for me. From the ridiculousness of the storyline to the stupidity of the characters. 16 year old Mia goes missing so, the local police department organizes a neighborhood search. An officer asks Octavia to open her home to be some some kind of station for volunteers. This is where the ridiculousness of the storyline comes in. No black woman is going to open her home and allow a boat load of strangers to traipse in and out of it. I don't care how helpful she wants to be. That whole scenario was just unrealistic. There was a lot of useless dialogue surrounding the search for Mia. Too much of the storyline centered around it. It drug on unnecessarily which, made the book boring. Lets talk about Steven. Where did he even come from?!!! He just randomly popped up and it was weird that he showed up to "volunteer" when Octavia hadn't seen him in months. I get that he was written in for drama with Jonathon but, it felt forced. It didn't flow naturally with the storyline and the fight scene between Steven and Jonathon just seemed childish. Speaking of Jonathon, lets discuss him and Mia. Why, oh, why was he leading that woman on?!!! Jonathon was very aware of Mia's feelings for him and he knew he was never going to reciprocate those feelings but, he kept running his azz to her every time she called getting her hopes up. He was all kinds of out line for spending an entire weekend with Mia like she didn't have family to help her out with her broken ankle. Octavia refused to show her azz and cuss him out like he deserved. Chiiiiiiile, when I tell y'all they worked my nerves! A Lifetime With You was just not up to par with the other books in this series. I found myself walking away from this book several times and I skipped through more than a few pages just to get through it. As the rest of the books in this series are not being narrated by Jakobi Diem and Wesleigh Siobhan on Audible, I will be reading them. I really hope they're better than this one.

This was a good story about friends becoming lovers...I appreciated the way Jonathan encouraged Octavia to resume her counseling/therapy after the loss of her parents 16 years earlier. The anniversary was looming and Octavia began having nightmares of the death of her parents and having Jonathan around her seem to be the only thing that soothed her. After helping a runaway with her similar parental issues, Octavia realized that Jonathan's suggestion was right...This was a cute story and to my surprise, the narration was decent with Mari & Leon Nixon...Hopefully, the next 6 audiobooks slated to be narrated by these two (2) are just as interesting...if not, I'm really going to be disappointed because I love this series and it really was unfortunate the narration had to change.

"A Lifetime With You" by Stephanie Nicole Norris

My Thoughts....

This was another well told story in this Book 5 of the Falling For A Rose series in 'A Lifetime With you' dealing with another one of the famous Rose brothers...Jonathan. I really liked how this story was of friends that become more than friends as it was for Jonathan and Octavia. Be ready for a story with some drama as Octavia seems to have a lots on her mind due to what had happened to her some sixteen years ago that still comes to her in her dreams. Will these two best friends be able to become more than friends even though there will be some hurdles to overcome? Well, if you haven't picked up the first four series I would definitely suggest you do so along with this one book five "A Lifetime With You" to get another well written story that leave you with a smile on your face.

This one was okay for me. I, in part think it was due to the audiobooks. Mare and Leon aren’t my favorite narrators. Going from Wesleigh and Jakobi to them, the voices just seems too mature for the imagery I have when I think about the characters, especially when they’ve narrated books 1-5, but I digress.

Forever, Never Going Away, Love

Sweet Octavia Davenport and Sensual Jonathan Rose are truly a match in this Steamy, yet enduring romance novel. Due to the very traumatic childhood event that ends in the loss of her parents, Octavia has nerve ending and body shattering nightmares that she's tried to maintain, yet have resurfaced near the anniversary of the tragic accident. It's only when Jonathan, her best friend of over a year, is near or clouding her thoughts, that she's in a better state. Will she let him in so his love can help her get through?

Jonathan, CEO of Rose Security Group, has loved Octavia almost from the moment he laid eyes on her. Although she's kept him in the friend zone their entire time knowing each other, he's never entertained other women, in hopes that she'll come around and really give them a chance to fully love each other. And although he has another friend and admirer, Mia, his heart is solely Octavias'. Will the friendship with Mia ruin his chances at a forever with Octavia, his one true love?

This was so sweet to read. The way Octavia opened her home in search of the missing teen and how Jonathan stepped in with his security team to help, while also helping Octavia, it was all really great. The build up was a bit slower than the first few books, yet still a good read nonetheless. The way Jonathan man handled Steven, Octavias' ex and his own friend, Quentin, when it came to Octavia, was heartwarming; this man didn't play when it came to his love. And the ending was about as sweet as can be. Love, Love, Love💕.

Another great read in this series. On to the next book.

Jonathan is a rose man: Attractive, intelligent, giving, chivalrous, and protective. Octavia is hard working, giving, passionate and best friends with Jonathan. This book surveys the age old questions, Should friends remain friends or risk it all for love? And does love really conquer all, even past traumas? Stephanie Nicole Norris delights our senses yet again with twists, turns, drama, and heat while keeping the story relatable because let's be honest, at least once in our lives, we've all looked at a friend and said what if....

This is a good series. I’m enjoying the Rose men. Jonathan was a good one. Him and his best friend Octavia were in love but it seems they didn’t want to admit it to themselves or each other. I didn’t like Octavia as much as the previous women in the other books. Some of the things she said and did annoyed me. But overall it was a good story.

Friends to Lovers

Always my favorite trope but these two were so quick to anger and leave; it was annoying cause it was so true to life.

I loved this couple; Jonathan and Octavia are explosive together!!

I love Ms. Norris and have read all of the Valentine Series, most of the Rose Series, and a few of her short stories. I've enjoyed them a lot. While I'm truly a fan of her work, I do have a problem with the amount of grammatical errors that find their way into her stories. Ms. Norris is a very talented, creative, and sultry writer, and I hate to see her work marred by editing/proofreading errors.

As for this particular story, the main male character-Jonathon Rose-is like all her male leads: smart, cultured, alpha, protective, super sexy and romantic. He's just the kind of man to make a woman swoon for days. For that alone, I gave the book three stars! And then there's Octavia Davenport. I wanted so much to like her and even understood the guilt and sadness she carried around about her parents' death. However, I just couldn't connect that to why she kept Jonathon at arms length or was in so much denial about their "relationship." Jonathon already knew about the nightmares, so her excuse was "she didn't want to burden him?" And then she continued to give her friend Selena such a hard time when the woman was only trying to get her to acknowledge her feelings and face the truth about Jonathon.

The main thing that drove me nuts about this story was the OTT jealousy that caused both characters to act like immature teenagers. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being a little jealous about who your significant other spends time with. I even think that in Octavia's case, she was a little bit justified. I do think that had she been totally honest or upfront about how it made her feel when Jonathon spent so much time with Mia, he probably would have shut that down immediately. At least, I hope he would have. But then again...

I couldn't believe how Jonathon didn't see anything wrong with the way Mia was "using" him. And I definitely don't understand why he didn't just tell Mia he's with/or interested in someone else?! She was getting on my LAST nerve! And just when I was on Octavia's side, she messes up too. 🙄 "She needed someone to talk to because she couldn't sleep," so she decides that the most unlikely person ever would serve as a good enough substitute for Jonathon?! Even after all that, I did not like the way Jonathon handled things at all. He runs a security firm with hundreds of employees, he could have done so much damage in other ways than what he did. And he, too, treated his friend, Quentin, like crap when he was only trying to help him. I was glad when Quentin told him that was going to be the last time he did that.

The sub-plot with the missing girl was just okay. I wish it would have had a more suspenseful ending.

This one was not my fave but still good despite the h inability to see what was right in front of her and claim it. She was downright annoying at times and both did some dumb stuff with other people at the end that was not cool and each had to get over. I listened to this series so far but for some reason they changed narrators in this book and the rest of the series. The new male narrator is HORRIBLE!! So I will continue reading them myself and not worry about audio. Annoyed- nobody is better than Jakobi diem!!

Started off with potential

I thought this would be my favorite but another abrupt ending ruined it for me. Jonathon is not stupid. He knew that at Mia like him and spent the week at her house. Octavia should have cussed him out. How dare you start swinging on people in my house when you have been MIA. I wish O would not have gone running back to him and the issues could have actually been addressed instead of swept into an underwhelming HEA.

Toughest read so far

This story was hard to read as the search process really drug it out. I found myself walking away from the book several times and when I wanted to resume reading, I skipped many pages just to get through. A little disappointed in the way the storyline with Mia ended but happy with the overall ending.

Not my favorite. I probably should’ve skipped this one. Not a fan of the narrators or the storyline on this one. Way too much miscommunication or lack of communication. Also, I was annoyed with Selina in the last book and was REALLY annoyed with her in this one. If it wasn’t for 2x speed I don’t think I would have gotten through this one.

Soooooo, Book five of Falling For A Rose series: A lifetime With You found good friends Octavia Davenport & Jonathan Alexander Rose finding their way around their budding relationship even though Jonathan allowed his friendship with Mia to almost lose out on a lifetime with Octavia.
I didn't really like this book much mainly because my new fav tag team narrators Wesleigh Siobhan & Jakobi Diem were replaced with Leon Nixon & Mari.
I don' believe that Jonathan, a security company owner, did NOT Know that Mia was flirting with him, wanting him for herself. I even felt that Jonathan was trying to lite-weight make Octavia jealous when he called & told her that he was at Mia's place & would be staying over to "help"her with her hurt ankle, with hopes that Octavia would object to his sleeping over at another woman's place. But, she very wisely didn't play into it. Instead, Octavia called an ex-bf to keep her company OVER THE PHONE when she was having one of her many nightmares about the tragedy of what happened to her parents.
So, when Jonathan arrived at her home & discovered Octavia's ex manning the phones during the search for that missing girl, HE HIT THE CEILING BEFORE HE ACTED JUVENILE BY ATTACKING Octavia's EX like they were on a schoolyard or something! Then, Jonathan-who just left from a sleepover at his "friend" Mia's place before arriving at Octavia's house, mind you_ HAD THE AUDACITY TO GET ANGRY WITH Octavia for calling her ex to keep her company OVER THE PHONE, AS IF HE HADN'T JUST SLEPT OVER ANOTHER WOMAN'S PLACE THE NIGHT BEFORE!
Jonathan had forgotten that HE WAS A HEAD OF SECURITY COMPANY WHO CAUSED A SCENE IN THE MIDST OF PEOPLE WHO WERE VOLUNTEERING TO FIND A MISSING CHILD THEN THREW A TANTRUM BECAUSE HIS PLAN TO MAKE OCTAVIA JEALOUS OVER HIS SPENDING TIME WITH MIA BACKFIRED LEAVING HIM ACTING VERY JEALOUS OF OCTAVIA'S ACQUAINTANCE WITH HER EX-BF, WHOM JONATHAN HATED!
I didn't like Jonathan's character BECAUSE HIS CHILDISH BEHAVIOR & QUICK TEMPER.
I also didn't like or believe that final scene where Octavia & Jonathan BE MARRIED IN HIS FAMILY'S BACKYARD WITHOUT NEITHER OCTAVIA OR JONATHAN FIRST APPLYING FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE IN COOK COUNTY BEFOREHAND!
IF READERS RECALL, Jonathan was ignoring all of Octavia's calls leading up to the Thanksgiving Holiday family dinner at Jonathan's dad Christopher Lee Rose's compound, which would not have allotted either to have had time to visit a courthouse to APPLY FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE AHEAD OF GETTING HITCHED-NOT OFFICIALLY OR LEGALLY, THAT IS.
I was glad that the young teen girl was found & returned to her grandmother's home agreeing to attend counseling with Octavia, which was the real happy ending readers who weren't invested in Octavia & Jonathan's story line needed.

One day, I am going to have to go back and read the book in order to see if the audiobook was different. The description didn't seem to match the audiobook. Or at least I thought it didn't.

The description talked about Octavia being alone living a moderately single life. I think there was a brief mention that she worked for a company, met Jonathon Rose and they became fast friends, best friends in fact.

I thought because of the description, how their relationship came to be would be described in much more detail. I thought there would be more scenarios of Octavia living her single life.

Nope. Jonathon was completely involved in her life from the beginning of the book.

Then the book describes Jonathon as having a commanding persona with a reputation that proceeds him who would rather live outside of the limelight or something like that.

I was expecting to hear some evidence of Mr Reputation living in the limelight. Nope, I didn't. I was told Jonathon's BFF was Octavia, but not shown how they got to that point. I was told about his "presence". Other than him telling his team about the search, I didn't hear any evidence of him being " commanding". And what limelight was he absent from?

Then I wondered what was the point of the search, her house being used as a command center, Mia, Steven, and the resulting outcome of the search?

I had so many questions. Also, what was the deal with his other gal pal Mia? Did O call Steven because she was jealous or desperate? Why didn't Jonathon shut his gal pal down? Why didn't Octavia say anything when gal pal was brought up and he specifically asked her the question?

At one point in the book, I could have sworn Octavia said Jonathon was the only person she had told about how her parents died. Then, it seemed like it came as a surprise.

For me, all of these things seemed more like distractions that took away from the relationship. As I said earlier, I was told a number of things, but I didn't feel like I was shown much.

I honestly wasn't picking up on much chemistry between the two. I was expecting a friends to lovers type romance. This didn't feel like it to me. The book was ok. The ending was a bit farfetched. The narration was ok. There have been other books by this author that I have enjoyed more. I would recommend that you read it and judge for yourself.

Another Rose finds his love mate!

Octavia in therapy for her night trauma associated with the guilt of her parent's death as teen due to her defiance over an iPod. Fast forward and Octavia is in a friend relationship with Jonathan one of the famous Rose men! Jonathan wants more as his heart has connected to Octavia who is afraid to allow her feelings for Jonathan to progress past the friend zone for fear her night trauma would drive him away! Stephanie Norris has turned this fictious family into one that I have begun to relate to as though they are real. She does the same thing with her Heart of a Valentine series. I love the characters, the content and the realness of the love mates through the various situations Stephanie puts them in and bring us along as they navigate their ways successfully through every situation they find themselves in, in mostly unconventional manners. So it is with Jonathan and Octavia until they find that what they feel for each other is real and it is love that they no longer want to do without. Thus compelling them to state what is in their hearts and then move their friendship to the next highest level - matrimony! I thoroughly enjoyed this book in both print and audio. Thanks Stephanie, you rocked another great book.

This one just didn't hit for me like the others in this series have. I did skip books 3 and 4 because I had no interest in Desiree and didn't know who Santana was and didn't have enough interest to find out. I had been curious about Jonathon and Octavia's story since the beginning. I don't know why but this one just fell short for me. I felt I couldn't fully connect to Jonathon and Octavia as much. Maybe its because I did skip books 3 and 4 but I just like they didn't spend all that much time together in this one.

Usually I don't skip around in series even if they can be read as standalones but after reading book 2 and already feeling myself start to loose interest I though skipping to a pair that i actually cared about would allow me to get invested again. Maybe a bad idea? Who knows. Needless to say I don't feel like continuing on or going back to read 3 and 4 at this time.

Swept off our Feet

The reader like Octavia will definitely be swept off their feet. The subplots (Octavia’s parents/the crash, the missing young lady, and Mia and Steven) added additional layers and energy to a love story that at times lagged and was a bit repetitive. The friendship /love between Octavia and Jonathan was sweet for sure but at times the constant adoration was a bit overdone as it went on and on. I wish that the book was more descriptive of what the main characters looked like, Jonathan’s description came midway in the book and I never knew for sure what Mia looked like except for possibly an athletic build due to running, a natural, and curves. I had to calculate Octavia’s age based upon the anniversary of the accident. This is my first book by the author, it was well written and enjoyable.
