These patterns are absolutely adorable! I will be looking forward creating at least a few of these as gifts for a few of my friends who have either young children or are about to be parents... I'm having a feeling the loveys will be a huge success, although the plush animals are adorable as well. I'm still a crochet newbie, so I could really appreciate the helpful explanations of the different stitches and how to put the different parts together!
Snuggle and Play Crochet 40 Amigurumi Patterns for Lovey Security Blankets and Matching Toys by Carolina Guzman Benitez Just looked at the cover and knew I wanted to read and explore this one. I am a published crochet designer myself and always enjoy looking at others creations. This book I thought was just about the cutest of shaped items to make for kids-I was wrong, there is so much more included- I had NOT read the title. Book starts out with a table of contents and an introduction about what's inside this book. 30 adorable doll type figures to make and afghans. I can just imagine using these dolls to create imagery places as a child plays with them. Next section is material and equipment. Great project for using up left over yarns. Never heard of the phrase a lovey but love finding out it's a comfort blanket. There are 5 blanket patters and 20 for cute characters. Love they give you the directions to sew part of the lovey to the blanket, what an awesome idea! Explains also how to use the patterns and read the charts. Each pattern contains: Skill level, materials needed, stitches used, finish size, color photo and pattern in row by row instructions and also charts if you work the pattern that way and other tips included as well. Very easy to understand, not a lot of clutter, clean, precise. Love texture blanket and think it'd look great for adult size for charities I crochet for. Next major section are the toys: doll characters, each part of the doll is given row by row instructions, or in the round and a chart before it moves onto the next section. Also shows where to sew it onto the lovey if you are making one of those as well. Summary of the animal shape to something they like to do. Many clear pictures, from different angles, along the way to make sure you are doing it right. Love how they match the colors of the toy doll to the lovey, just perfect. Also can use childs favorite colors. Closeup clearn pictures of the features on the faces. Love the selection of toys because you can create all kinds of scenes for the child to play. Basic techniques are also shown in detail using color photos and explanations of what is happeneing with the aitches. Abbreviations follow, chart symbols and stitches for US and UK along with color photos of stitches on the hook. Finishing techniques are also shown in the same manner. Author bio and acknowledgement page finish up this book. Has so many things to do that are easy for everybody. So much detail and it's all so easy with clear instructions. I received this book from F+W Media via Net Galley and this is my honest review.
Snuggle and Play Crochet: 40 Amigurumi Patterns for Lovey Security Blankets and Matching Toys by Carolina Guzman Benitez is a nice collect of crochet projects. Snuggle up with a crochet comforter or play with a colorful character--this unique collection of 40 amigurumi patterns are simple to stitch and super cute! Featuring crochet toy patterns including boy and girl dolls, dogs and cats, bears and bunnies and many more, this amazing collection will give you over 40 different crochet toys to create.
Snuggle and Play Crochet: 40 Amigurumi Patterns for Lovey Security Blankets and Matching Toys is full of cute projects that have me itching to try them, but knowing that amigurumi is just not my thing. I mainly crochet while reading or watching television, so projects that require that much attention and detail are ones I tend to bypass. However, this huge collection just might get me to working making a small menagerie. I know I will be making one or more of the loveys in my near future. There was a good amount of instruction and explanation for those that need it, and that he patterns and charts were accurate and clearly written.
While there are many toy and blanket patterns out there, and in my collection to be honest, I liked this particular selection and the sheer number of options that this collection can take crocheters. I thought the zebra, rhino, and bunny were particularly nice, and know that I will be making the cat (possibly the hippo, fox, and frog) lovey in short order. I really loved all the little details included, the clothes and accessories for the toys. I only wish I had this book when my animal loving daughter was younger, and less likely to pay attention to what I am working on. The only thing I did not like about the patterns, is something I can easily customize on my own finished projects- the angle of the eyebrows. I thought all of the animals and people looked very concerned, and I would change that.
Is exactly what it says in the title, Amigurumi patterns for Lovey Security Patterns and Matching Toys, which ended up becoming a lot of the same and repetitiveness in the end. I would have loved to see a little more creativity, rather than constant repeats with just slightly different details. If you love amigurumi and have a lot of babies in your life I'd recommend it.
*I received a free copy through Netgalley, but the review is my own opinion.*
What a lovely and well illustrated crochet book. I have only been crocheting for 5 months now and I found the patterns very easy to follow. I have just finished Roy the Rhino, he was a joy to make. I know I will be making some more for my new nephew Oscar. I love at the end of this book it has a section of Basic techniques this had easy to follow guidelines, chart symbols, how to do a magic ring, slip stitch, single crochet and much more. It also had good clear drawings of the stitches etc and photos of how all of this. Please be aware this book is in US crochet term however there is a chart of USA and UK crochet stitches so you may need a pen and paper handy to change the crochet stitches to UK crochet stitches. I found this easy to do. There are clear and colourful charts and patterns for lots of cute plush animals and a lovely boy and girl. This book is a must for people who who are new to crochet and who know how to crochet. I found this book fun and enjoyable and I know I will be making more of these cute toys etc.
very cute book with nice ideas and great instructions!
As a pretty new Crocheter - and as pretty new i mean i have done one thing so far!- this book started out a bit of a challenge for me personally BUT i think that is just because i am so new to this craft that it just took me a while to get used to how this author describes what to do because once i got used to it it was super easy to understand what the author wanted me to do.
I also love that she adds a good amount of pictures of the project, as well as small steps in between. And she shows the pattern in picture form as well as description is.
So no matter what kind of crafter you are -if you are the picture crafter or the description crafter- this book has you covered!
If you want to try to start crocheting animals or blankets? give this book a try!
*Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for giving me an e-copy of this book in exchange for a free and honest review.*
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publishers for this review copy in exchange for an honest review.
I love crochet and am drawn to any crochet pattern books in the hope that I see something that catches my eye. Wow, this book is gorgeous! It has some beautiful patterns for security blankets and matching toys and as there are 40 different patterns, the book just goes on and on and on! The patterns are clear and concise with easy to follow written instructions and patterns, and there are lots of extra instructions for finishing off the different sections.
Be warned if you are in the UK that it is a US book, and the terms used are the US version, but as long as you remember that your double crochet are really trebles, then you should be fine!
Great book for any crocheter, definitely worth getting!
Carolina has outdone herself! I'm a longtime lover of Carolina's patterns and a Facebook fan. This book is an excellent title to add to your collection if you enjoy amigurumi or just want to make some fiber friends for the little ones in your life. The patterns are all based around similar pieces and structures with modifications to make each unique. Several lovely options are presented, but you're free to mix and match those parts as you wish. The illustrations are well done and enhance the crochet directions. Having both written text directions and chart directions enhances the appeal of the book. This is definitely one title you won't want to miss.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is a book of fine patterns. They style of animal toy isn't entirely to my taste, but I'm sure many people will get enjoyment from the finished product.
I decided, on reading this book, to learn to read charts, and further, I decided I was only going to read charts from this book. It would be a success if I could learn to crochet from a chart without outside resources. I made the reindeer and an accompanying peaks blanket, and they turned out great! I was very pleased with the outcome.
I'm giving the book three stars because it was an effective teacher (yay!), but since it's purpose is a book of patterns that I'm only slightly above "they're okay" (to me, personally), three stars seems pretty fair.
I received an advanced copy for review from NetGalley.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy from NetGalley for my unbiased opinion of the book. I am loving this crochet book. I was hoping to have my project finished before my review, Luke the Frog is in progress. My skill level is somewhere between beginner and intermediate. It doesn't matter because this book is a dream!! The instructions are very easy to understand and there are plenty of color pictures to help you guide your way. There are sections for chart symbols, stitches, abbreviations, finishing techniques. Also, there are several different options of animals to choose from. I look forward to making them all!!!
This is such a cute little book! I love the idea of gifting a lovey and a matching stuffed toy. These patterns are well written with clear instructions. Pattern selection is great--a wonderful variety and you're sure to find something to make here when crafting for new babies. I've started on the monkey set (pictured on cover) and have had no technical issues with the pattern.
Based upon my experience (20+ years crocheting) I would suggest this pattern book to beginning-intermediate crocheters. It requires basic knowledge of working in the round and seaming.

Carolina Guzman Benitez did a good job with providing s variety of patterns of blankets and stuffed toys of both animals and children. I especially liked the zebra. I think it's clever that the characters can be made with full bodies or as lovies( heads with blankets for the bodies). The book had clear instructions and very nice illustrations of the different techniques. I think it will be fun making the different characters and that children will love them. I received an advance reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

This is a great crochet book with blanket patterns and adorable animals. Each animal pattern has two variations, the animal and then the animal with small blanket attached. The photos make it easy to follow the well written directions and patterns. The final chapter has well written and illustrated how to steps for each stitch type used. I'm always looking for pattern books with stuffed animal patterns and this one has moved to the top of my list.
Handmade toys were always one of my favorite things to get from grandma. Then they went out of style, but a homemade resurgence is happening. If you are a crocheter and have dreams of making kids smile, this book can help you it. It has multiple fun animal babies like monkeys, pigs, etc to make. Plus the patterns normally come in two styles: full doll, and blanket doll. Maybe if I start now, I could have something done for the holiday.
This has to be my favourite crochet pattern book to date. The patterns are really well written in US terms, easy to follow, and offer both written and chart patterns depending on your preference. The amigurumi and snuggle blankets all turn out super cute, and I've made loads for my own children, family, and friends (plus adults too!) Highly recommended for competent crocheters (although with the amazing extra help and guidance provided by the author, beginners may enjoy having a go to.)
A collection of wonderful crochet patterns to make gifts for babies, from beginner level to more advanced crocheter. All patterns are with written instructions and charts. Whether you want to crochet a simple granny square blanket or a stuffed pig, you'll find an easy pattern in here.
There are so many cute patterns in this book, but my favorite are the reindeer & zebra! I can't wait to get started making them. The directions seem very clear & easy to follow, both written & diagram. I love the pictures in this book too!
Adorable animals and loveys, nice assortment of patterns to choose from. Figures are sweet and realistic. Clear, easy to follow directions. Several blanket patterns to choose from for the lovey.
Another crochet book I would like to own. If you're looking to make gifts for the new babies in your life, this is a great one, with patterns for crochet toys and lovie blankets.

I absolutely loved this book, thank you so much to the publishers and Netgalley for letting me read it. Snuggle and Play Crochet is suitable for the beginner/intermediate crocheter, but there is enough here to interest the more experienced crafter. The instructions are clearly written in both chart and word form, the pictures are clear and well designed. Each lovey can be made in one of 4 granny blanket styles with an animal head and arms added. A companion toy is also available, the only limits on what you can make is your imagination!
What a fabulous book this is, easy to follow, lovely big bright photos and sooooo cute. Could not pick which I wanted to make first - just loved the zebra and the giraffe and the rhino was the sweetest. There are 40 of them and all really easy, very detailed and each have both the written or chart instructions. step by step instructions on sewing details - absolutely gorgeous.
