One damaging relationship in his life refuses to end when the woman insists it's not over between them for her. Marsha makes Macklin's life hell…until she turns up dead and the evidence points straight at him.
As the new detective on the Coronado Police force, Alex is determined to make a good impression on her superiors and colleagues. That goal is thwarted by Macklin, who's the chief suspect in her murder investigation--and someone she longs to know a whole lot better. Whether she wants to or not, she can't let herself foolishly forget that his last girlfriend now occupies an ice-cold bed at the morgue.
During his thorough interrogation at the precinct by the sexy-beyond-belief detective, Macklin finds himself furious…and intrigued. Seems, alive or dead, Marsha is determined to make his life miserable. Alex intends to find out the truth, and, as an elite warrior himself, he admires her grift and ethics in pursuit of the answers. Damn that she's the first woman in a long time he'd love to get to know better.
With no other option, Macklin has to help the detective solve the mystery--hopefully before Alex has no choice but to charge him with murder.

I’ve read a few Dale Mayer novels, across a number of her series, and find it to be a bit of hit or miss. Some of the author’s books I have really enjoyed, others I find myself disinterested in. It is possible I would have a better time if I were to read each series in order, but most of the books work perfectly fine as standalone novels. Due to this, I think it’s just a reflection of Dale Mayer as a writer – sometimes the books will hit the mark, other times I will be left feeling cheated. With Macklin, I was given the latter.
Macklin is the fourteenth book in the SEALs of Honor series, although it works perfectly fine as a standalone novel. There are characters in this book who have had their story told, or are going to have their story told, in other books throughout the series, but they are side characters and you do not need to know their stories to understand what happens throughout Macklin. It has a start and an end, with all the necessary details being provided throughout.
In truth, I was rather intrigued by this one. It had such a promising story, but it failed to hit the mark. There was a mystery throughout, but there seemed to be a lot of information that left us bored by what was happening. Considering the events within this story, we should have been given lots of action. Rather than being sucked into all the events, I found myself forcing my way through lots of solid walls of text and unnecessary conversational exchanges. It wasn’t the fast-paced book I would have liked, nor was it as action packed as I had hoped for such a story.
I could have dealt with such an issue had I been pulled into the romantic element of the story – but I didn’t care. I never felt anything towards either of the characters. I was watching events play out, I knew something was developing, but I never felt any chemistry. They simply came together and that was that.
With my romantic suspense books, I want to feel the suspense and the romance, but both were lacking in this one.
Another book from Dale Mayer that I love. This one is packed with mystery from beginning till the end. Stalker, murder, break and entering, yes this book keeps me on my toes all the time. I can't stop reading it, wondering who's the bad guy, are those cases connected, will they captured the culprit and I keep suspecting everyone. The actions is not as much as I expect it to be (well who doesn't want to see those hot military men in actions?), but those mysteries and twist totally make up for it.
As for characters, I loveeee Macklin, his heart is bigger than his big Mack truck body, and he's a lovable person, his protectiveness is one of the thing that makes me love him, and his sense of humor, his easygoing personality and his playful mischief, oh yes I love him. And Alex, oh wow I admire her, she's an amazing detective, she oozes power, so meticulous to everything she does. These two are perfect for each other, their banter always got me smile, those flirty sweet moments are lovely, really love when they're together.
If you love mystery with some fun sweetness moments, this one is definitely for you.
*I voluntarily received a review copy of this book
A kick-a** female detective and a sexy, protective SEAL..oh yea, I was so HAPPY with this newest romance by Dale Mayer! This was a bit different than the traditional hero coming to damsel in distress rescue story. Instead we get a total kick butt detective who is investigating a murder and one of her suspects is a irresistible SEAL. I devoured this book! Exciting, sexy, full of suspense that keeps the adrenaline pumping, and plenty of red hot chemistry, there wasn't one bit of dullness to this story at all! And I always enjoy a sexy SEAL and Macklin is what dreams and fantasies are made of.
Every now and then there comes a heroine that is not just note worthy but really makes things interesting and I felt like Alex is just that. Tough as nails, with some undertones of sweetness and a woman that knows how to take down bad guys, I really liked her and think she is one of the BEST heroines I read about in a long while.
Macklin SEALS of Honor gets an EXTRAORDINARY FIVE SHOOTING STARS!
Macklin (SEALs of Honor #14) is an entertaining and engaging read. A drama filled romance that also offers mystery, suspense and humor. This is a well written book that has an interesting plot. These characters are complex and have good chemistry. I'm posting a voluntary review after reading an advance copy of this book.
Almost recovered from a gunshot wound, Macklin is called in for questioning regarding the murder of his ex-girlfriend. To prove his innocence, he must work with Detective Alex to find the murderer. Will they find the culprit in time before another woman is murdered? The attraction between these two strong independent characters grows stronger the longer they work together. Lots of intrigue, mystery and secrets in this one to keep your interest.
4.5 What our Seal taken down to the police station? Stalkers? Want answers, read Macklin! A fast engrossing read! I enjoy all the Seals but this one took it a step further into real life. I asked for an Arc and voluntarily reviewed this book because I want to share about authors I enjoy.
I am pretty sure I wrote a review on the hard copy version. In case it did not post let me just say.... You hit it out of the park again! What a great bad guy! Never really saw that coming. Awesome! Made great sense also! Terrific romantic pairing and I love Macklin! Bravo Dale! I look forward to every single book! Write On! Davia
A good addition to SEALs of Honor series, Macklin story was high octave from the start. He was a murder suspect, a murder of his ex that never wanted to accept the relationship had ended. Alex, the new detective in charge of the case, was a fair, smart, and strong woman. Alex was cleared quite early, and together the tried to find the real killer.
Alex was a swoon worthy character. He’s gorgeous and a badass, yet he’s nervous in starting a new relationship with the good detective. He’s also determine to find his ex’s killer, no matter how much his ex had made his life miserable. Alex was the kind of heroine I really like. So, no complain there. The story itself was good, but kind of follow the same path as Ms. Mayer’s other books. It’s still good and enjoyable though.
I was provided a complementary copy by the author / publisher, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.
Macklin is a funny, gripping, page turning book that provides genuine entertainment and a twisted, interesting plot. I couldn’t put it down until the last page! Being a military novel, the protagonists are Navy Seals, with the obvious alpha personality. However, the character that stands out is an intelligent, witty, independent, ordinary woman. Once again, Dale Mayer succeeded at creating a book that is different from the others in the series. Although with the same group of characters, Macklin introduces new themes and perspectives. For one, the Seals are not on a mission, but at their home base, living their day to day life. Yet, their mutual support and friendship, and their outstanding investigative skills, play a key role in the story. Macklin is a captivating character. In the previous books of the series, he distinguished himself for the caring, selfless friendship he demonstrated towards Caytlin, Ryder’s girlfriend. In this episode, he reveals a brilliant intelligence, an interest and growing competence in computer science, and a realistic, wise approach to life. He is clearly worried about being a murder suspect, but doesn’t deal with the situation with rage and resentment, rather he uses his intelligence, his skills and works with his group of friends to clear his name and find the culprit. He pursues Alex with determination, but always with great respect for her and her professional obligations and admirations for her abilities as a police detective. Alex, the heroine of the book, a former special agent, is a newly appointed detective in the Coronado PD. Being new and female, she has to win her colleagues’ respect and prove herself worth of her commanding position. Even if she is wary of Macklin, the prime suspect in a murder case she is investigating, she realises that his help, and the one of his colleagues, can be of great help for unearthing the truth. Alex proves to be intelligent, rationale, never taking the easy way out of a problem. She uses her professional skills, sharp intelligence, and assertive behaviour to win the respect of her peers. In her personal life, she can accept to explore a relationship only on her own terms, when she is sure that the other person respects her life choices as much as she respects his. Together with all the other characters of the book, Macklin and Alex give life to an entertaining, well written and never boring story, a perfect travel or weekend read.
Your live has already been invaded by an obsessive ex. A weekend fling that you just instinctively knew wasn’t right for you. However, instead of going separate ways - some turn their fantasies into obsessions and will do whatever it takes to be with that person. A stalker is born. What happens when the stalker becomes the stalked and is found murdered? No matter how long ago the relationship was, your attempts to bring order to your life going through the correct legal channels… you still become the prime suspect.
Macklin isn’t the type to let things lie and have a police system fail him. He is going to push and do what he can to solve this murder mystery. With the help from members of his SEAL team family and a certain gorgeous detective, they set out to find the who done it!!
Even though he refuses to be vulnerable again… this detective piques his interest with her professionalism to the job and dedication to her job, Even when he treads on her toes at times. Sometimes to solve a crime you have to join forces and pool your resources.
Dale will take Macklin and Alex through a suspenseful and often times frustrating investigative process, to solve not only a murder but also some unusual break and enters. It’s a story that pits two intelligent and logical people together who also find themselves attracted to each other. The lengths a murderer goes to not only implicate Macklin, but divert police resources and attention is extraordinary. This was a story that was beautifully paced as it unfolded in its intrigue and suspense. Police work is filled with frustrations, doubts, and questions, before those answers fit and a crime is solved - this process was shown quite clearly. Also having strong characters that have a healthy respect for others and their core job values.
If you love pare turning drama, intrique and love solving crime - then Dale Mayer delivers with MACKLIN. A well written story, highly recommended for those that love a military based hero but love solving crimes even more. You also get a sneak peek into the next story… Corey will find himself in a boatload of drama and trouble as the past revisits him. I can’t wait
This is a different type of story for the SEALs of Honor with it centering around a female detective, Alex falling for Macklin a SEAL that was a suspect in one of her murder cases. Macklin had been stalked by a crazy woman, Marsha who he had finally was not being bothered by for a couple of years. She had been relentless and Macklin had to get rid of his original apart!emt and take assignments overseas to avoid her. It worked but he was still being haunted by her because the killer wrote his name in Marsha's blood to implicate him. He was innocent but intrigued by the detective and enlisted the help of his unit to help Alex catch Marsha's killer. The more he was with her the more he wanted to be with her romantically and she felt the same way. It was a case of another SEAL becoming a member of Masons Keeper teammates. It was interesting how the SEAL unit helped the police out to solve the mystery of who killed Marsha and was also breaking into houses in the area. Macklin also wore Alex down so that they became a couple so he became a member of the Keepers. Now it was Cory'turn to find love. I highly recommend this different type of SEALs story as it was a very romantic and suspenseful interesting story and showed the many talents of the SEALs and the special all around training that they have to become proficient to be qualified to stay a SEAL.
I received a complimentary copy of this title and voluntarily reviewed it.
I am enjoying this series! The heroines are all strong, independent and self-providing women. The heroes are all former SEALS who is involve who have been recruited to a new organization made up of former Seals. The stories always have an interesting mystery that the SEALs help resolve.
In this book, Alex is a new detective on the police force. She is investigating the murder of a woman, Marsha, who dated Macklin for a short time. When he broke up with her, Marsha began stalking Macklin.. Macklin, of course, is the first person they consider as a suspect in her murder.
One interesting part of the book is that has to deal with some prejudice from the police officers she works with because she is a woman.
Also, there is a lot of intrigue in this book as Alex and Macklin try to figure out who killed Marsha. Along with this murder, there is someone who is breaking into women’s apartments and scaring the owners. Since they have not done anything else, the police are not sure what they are doing, and why. Alex and Macklin are also investigating this crime.
I enjoyed watching Alex and Macklin try to put together all of the different pieces of these crimes to help them figure out the answers to these mysteries.
Macklin, a SEAL, has avoided the dating scene entirely since his last relationship ended badly, and that woman, Marsha, refused to accept that. She's made his life miserable since then with her actions, and though Macklin wanted her to leave him alone, he never wished her dead. The cops suspect him, of course, and as he knows he's innocent, he vows to find the real killer.
Alex, the new Coronado detective, is determined to find justice for the victim and prove her worth to her bosses. She has her doubts as to the man they have in custody for the murder, and it has nothing to do with the pull she feels toward him. Right?
As Macklin and Alex work toward clearing his name and uncovering the actual killer's identity, their mutual attraction becomes harder to deny.
Can Macklin and Alex prove his innocence? Is Macklin ready to explore what's between him and Alex? Or did his last experience scare him off even the possibility? Is a HEA possible?
One-click now and follow along as two people, a detective and murder suspect, must work hard to prove he's not guilty, otherwise not only is their possible future at risk, but his freedom is too.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.**
The men in SEALs of Honor Series are fantastic! I love how each one has a different skill-set which makes them an integral part of their unit and how each one views himself as part of a very special family. Each man just knows, without any second thought, that his buddies will have his back, believe in him and be a member of his immediate support system.
Macklin, just like the other men in his Unit, is fiercely protective of the people in his life, especially the woman he feels is his future wife. I love how the wholesomeness of family meshes seamlessly with the loyalty of brotherhood despite the danger that they all face.
Macklin has great instincts and is able to be an important asset for Alex when she is new to this police force and trying to solve a murder that has turned into multiple cases while keeping herself safe. Alex is sweet, smart and funny. She is also driven and very meticulous in her investigations. It’s too bad that Macklin is so attractive and also a suspect. Her timing couldn’t be worse.
I love this well written, fast-paced story and how it all comes together! Excellent job!
I really liked Macklin, he came across as more laid back not quite so full on alpha male as most of the guys in the team do. Alex is strong, sassy and very independent and trying hard to prove herself in her new job with very little help or input from her colleagues. With a murder and several unexplained break ins she could use a break herself, now she has to question a friend of a friend. The plot is quite good and I enjoyed the build up in suspense to finding out not only the murderer but who was doing the odd break ins. I would have liked a little more of Alex and Macklin together as they didn't really have a lot of time to get to know each other, maybe just me but with the other books it was a bit more intense and you felt them clicking together, I was slightly disappointed not to feel that with this one. Saying that it is still a great story and I read it in one day so that shows it held my attention without any problem. I would like to hear more of this couple though in the future, maybe a novella just to give a little more of them as a couple. Great read and well written as always by Dale Mayer.
Another keeper in the SEAL’s of Honor series and this time it’s Macklin and the new detective, Alex. They meet when Macklin is the prime suspect in the murder of his stalker, Marsha, who stalked him for years. While proving his innocence he wants to get to know the detective more but he’s one of her suspects and she can’t get involved with him. But that doesn’t stop him as he figures out she is a keeper. A great great read with a mystery that will have you guessing till the end as the clues come together and a bit of a surprise with the ending. I loved this read and Macklin, a man who wasn’t a man wh***, who knows what and who he wants and doesn’t give up....swoon swoon swoon. I also enjoyed their banter and how Alex was able to keep up and able to handle herself, proving she is more than capable and the perfect match for him. Along with the sparks and steam between them, no excess drama, no miscommunication or misunderstandings, honesty and openness between them is another reason I loved this read and why I love these books by Dale Mayer. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
If you want background on the book see the blurb above.
I started this series months ago and had decided to catch up on what new books had been released since I finished what was out. I have to admit its been months since I've read this book to be reviewing it will be tough.
It must have been tough for someone to be basically stalking you after a few nights in bed and then have the cops show up to talk to you because this woman is dead. I had to feel for the poor hero in this one. Then when a cop show up to to ask him to come down to the station for a chat, all he could think of was the attraction he felt for the cop. One thing our heroine can tell is he loved his sister and she loved him. However, he tried to suppress the attraction to the cop due to the stalker who was now dead. It really put him off women. However as time goes on, they find themselves wanting to be with the other.
The hero was very likable and you could relate to. You could tell the sister loved him and he loves her. However, the heroine was a bit harder to get to like.
When we met Macklin we got some hints as to his ex and the wild things she did. In this book we find out all about that relationship and how truly weird she was.
As Mac prepares to return to duty Corey, Ryder and Caitlyn are out for coffee when they are approached by the police. Apparently Mac's ex Marsha has been murdered and he is the number one suspect.
Mac goes in for questioning and finds himself intrigued by Alex, a feeling he hadn't experienced in a very long time.
Alex has more than one case though, there's also been a spree of break-ins in military housing. The strange thing, nothing was taken and the occupants had mostly just been scared by the intruder who ran.
Of course the guys won't leave things totally to the police and Mac calls Alex with theories. The flirting is fun and the chemistry is palpable between these two. Alex just has to clear him, so maybe they can start something more.
Lots of twists and turns, and we see Mason in this one, although Corey is more involved. Breakfasts, lunches and a dinner bring Alex and Mac closer to a relationship that definitely has sizzle.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
Life has a way of taking us away from our escape at times. This was one of those books that I didn't want to put down.
I am so in lust with Macklin! Dale Mayer has written another intriguing SEAL's of honor.
As Macklin is a murder suspect right off the bat and the detective in charge of the case, Alex, sets off sparks from the get go.
This murder mystery takes you on a journey of who done it with a great deal of flirting mixed into the investigation and keeps you guessing until the absolute last minute.
I had intended on reading this book in one setting but ended up too sleepy to finish it last night then had to read in snippets for a while today until I finally got to sit down and read the final hour uninterrupted.
This book, like all the SEAL's of Honor is filled with mystery, intrigue, drama and some outright cute flirting from the big guy that was compared to a Mac truck when people attempted to pull his name from their memories.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book and suggest you grab a copy for yourself as soon as it's up for sale.
Macklin has had one damaging relationship in his life which he has done his best to avoid Marsha ever since. Alex is a new detective in the Coronado Police force and is determined to make a good impression. When Marsha is murdered and leaving evidence pointing to him, Macklin becomes the main suspect. Alex needs to find the killer soon, and Macklin finally has someone he wants to know better. Can they navigate the tricky case whilst staying in control of their thoughts and emotions until the killer is captured?
Great new story in the SEALs of Honor series. It was nice to see a guy struggling with a stalker as it is so often men stalking a woman, and I liked the torture of getting to know each other without crossing the boundary between a suspect and a lover. Everything was clearly written and clear and easy to understand. Very enjoyable and the ending set up a story for Corey in the next book.
Macklin made a mistake when he dated his ex, he knew it but he couldn't let her go, he tried but her she brought him back. He finally freed himself from her and hadn't heard from her in two years. Now she is dead and he is a prime suspect.
Enter Alex, the new detective on the Coronado Police force. She has her own problems as she was chosen for this position but not from within the department, she came from back East and some aren't too happy with that. She has a lot to prove with this case.
Along the twisted way to finding the killer, Macklin and Alex start to fall for each other. Both are out to prove his innocence and catch the killer before someone else gets hurt.
This had me turning the pages until the end of the book. I liked both characters a lot as they were made for each other as with the other books in the series, the women are strong and independent but give everything they have, just like their SEALS.
After meeting him in Ryder's story, I knew Macklin was going to be a great guy to read about. He's everything you want in a hero, a true man of honor, and this story was absolutely fascinating.
After being stalked for years by a crazy ex-girlfriend, Macklin is the prime suspect when she ends up murdered. The detective on the case, Alex, is quickly impressed with Macklin's forthright account of his history with the victim, and eventually they have to work together to solve the crime.
This author really knows how to write gripping, page-turning action stories. This book has so much heart, too, and shows the strength of family and camaraderie among the men and women of his unit. The romance is sweet, even in the midst of such an unpleasant assignment. It's a wonderful story with a beautiful HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Macklin's life was invaded for six years with a crazy woman stalker. He had given up on relationships because of it and now his stalker has been killed and he's the prime suspect. Enter Alex, newly appointed to the Coronado police department and charged with proving Macklin is a killer.
The story plot is really interesting and involved and Macklin and Alex are prevented from exploring feelings for one another because of Macklin's involvement in the case.
I really liked Macklin a lot and I thought he was very sexy. I wish there had been more time allotted to the pair getting to know each other and spending more sexy time together.
I enjoyed the book and my interest was held by all the plots going on and the chemistry between Macklin and Alex.
I received an ARC of this book and my thoughts are my own.
Macklin by Dale Mayer SEALs of Honor Series Book 15 Macklin Princeton's last relationship was so bad, that he's pretty much given up on dating for a few years now. A wacko woman who stalks you can do that to a man. But when the new detective picks him up for questioning...he rethinks the whole relationship thing. Although, when you're a murder suspect...it's kind of hard to date the detective.
Detective Alex Carson has been on the job for a month. Now she has a murder and several break-ins to solve, while trying to prove herself as the right person for the job. And not everyone in her department is being helpful. Let alone having such a hunk as Macklin being a prime suspect when she'd much rather get to know him in other circumstances.
Alex Carson is the new detective at the Coronado police department. She's investigating a murder of a woman and needs to interview Macklin, a Navy Seal, whose name was written in blood beside the body. Macklin relates his past relationship with the victim as crazy. Full of stalking, lies and protective orders. He adds all his team mates can verify his statement. Pretty sure Macklin isn't guilty Alex continues the investigation. Break ins start happening in the area where only lone women reside. Not having much success Alex and Macklin get together, with help of his Seal Team members to help solve the mystery. Will they find the guilty person ? You have to wait until the end. I was given a copy of this book to provide an honest review.
Wow, I really enjoyed this book (but I usually enjoy every book Dale writes). You first meet Macklin with Ryder’s story and I really liked him in that book. Very glad to get to read his story now. He is the typical alpha seal man who is doubly sexy with his wit and banter. He meets Alex who is the detective investigating a murder that all clues point to Macklin being the prime suspect. You can feel their chemistry right away. I always enjoy series where previous characters make an appearance and quite a few do in this book. It’s always nice to play “catch up” with them and their strong brotherhood bond. Really looking forward to Corey’s story in the next “keeper” book. I did receive an ARC of this book, but as always, I will purchase the book to support this fantastic author.
I love all of Dale Mayer’s books. Although this didn’t have a lot of action like some of the other books in the series, there was a mystery that needed to be solved. The book starts with Macklin being notified that his crazy ex was murdered and his name written in blood by the body. Not that Macklin doesn’t trust the detective assigned to the case, because he did and there’s electricity in the air whenever they meet. Macklin knows he can’t start a relationship with the detective while he’s a murder suspect, so Macklin and his teammate Corey work to clear his name. For those who have read the other books in the series you’ll recognize some of the minor characters in the book, but this is a standalone novel in the series. I enjoyed reading the book and liked the surprising ending.
Thanks to the advance reading book I didn’t have to wait more for this book I really waited much, since the first time I met Macklin in the series, but that has just increase my disappointment for the story I read, the book is good but not what I expected for him, this is a hero in every aspects, and I maybe was used too much to other series where the hero I was expecting quite for a life at the end left me so in awe I really experienced a crush down and was really difficult read it at the end because I found all The articulation of the drama really poor and not really much inspired, maybe after more than 15 books there was some tiredness from the writer, but I didn’t expect so less interest in this hero..
Dale Mayer has done another fantastic job with this book. Filled with action, drama and intrigue.
Alex has a murder mystery and a spate of breaking and entering on her plate at her new detective job, huge sexy as sin Seal, Macklin is a suspect when his psycho ex is the victim and his name is at the scene.
This is a well-written story, wonderfully descriptive, seems like you are there. Great characters, the attraction simmers between them.
This is a standalone story, with no cliffhanger and has HEA.
Once again Dale Mayer had me hooked from the start. I couldn't put this book down once I started it. The story talks about a serious subject, stalking. You get taken through the many feelings, emotions, and situations that the character is put through while he is being stalked. The book kept me turning the pages and I was so engrossed, time just flew by and before I knew it I was at the end of the book. It was a roller-coaster ride and definitely a book you want to read if you love suspense, with some romance thrown into the mix. What a great book!
