When i picked up this book, I thought I may have a bit of trouble reading and finishing it, truth be told, I was only half right. It's written in 3 sections, the first by John Arlott about the origins and history of the game, secondly is written by Arlott and Gilbert Phelps and features poems and writings of verse on the subject. Honestly, i found this to be considerably boring, long winded and abit drawn out. The only pages i can say i enjoyed were the few that were an excert from the Biography of
Dr W.G Grace.

However, finishing this book, was actually quite easy and enjoyable as the final chapter was written by Fred Trueman as he writes in his typical Yorkshire tones about the players of his time. This to me was easily the highlight of this book, but i would still leave this book to the real lovers of cricket and cricket book collectors.
