I thought getting back to the forest would give me a chance to calm down. Research is my passion. And after my time in the city, I need the wilderness to settle my nerves.
But Park Ranger Caleb Hunt has something else in mind. Settling my nerves is definitely not on his to-do list.
Tall, handsome and cocky as hell. He's everything I've ever wanted. In my world. In my bed.
But something in his past is holding him back. One second he's hot as the surface of the sun. The next, he's cold as the ice on a mountaintop.
I want to tame his heart, but he's wild as the wilderness he ranges. But I'm willing to take a chance. I just hope like hell he's worth the risk.
Have we met? No? Well it's time to end that tragedy.

“Life is full of risks…sometimes you have to take a great risk for the chance of an even greater reward.”
“I told you to grab the essentials, and you bring three frogs?” “They ARE essentials!” she protested, unable to see the full smirk on his shadowed face, but she could see enough to know he was enjoying himself. “Besides…they could have been hurt.” “Hurt?!?” His voice was incredulous. “But you just said you were going to dissect them!”
‘Worth the Risk’ is my first try of a male author writing in the contemporary romance genre so I was more than excited to read an addition to this variety from the perspective of man. I seldom - if at all - come across male authors who appreciate romance novels enough to decide to make their debut by writing one so I was more than compelled to read this! And in my very not-so-humble opinion I think we need more male authors writing about versatile romance :D
‘Worth the Risk’ by Weston Parker follows Caleb Hunt, park ranger, man of the woods and outdoorsman of solitude in his attempt to protect his developmental park, because Caleb’s life is dedicated to his career in the Forestry Service. But when a scientist and academic who is both beautiful with a head full of brains appears on his park’s pastures Caleb’s focus turns to winning her over in a more passionate setting. He’s cold and hard and doesn’t get off to the best start with this challenging professor, but it doesn’t take long for them both to feel the attraction… and succumb to it.
The survival and safety of his park means everything to Caleb and as a result is possessive about his park and his solitude; he didn’t leave civilisation to squander his skills so far away; he left for peace and protection; peace for himself and protection for anyone who crossed his path. Danielle French is not well versed in the art of the outdoors but she’s as prepared and ordered as they come, that is until Caleb’s wild ways and broody demeanour challenge her patience as well as her libido. She finds herself at Caleb’s park for field work and to build on her theory of species cohabitation, so if she’s to brave the park’s forest she’ll do so with a fair amount of a scientist’s logic and structure. But Dani didn’t expect that she’d have to interact with the handsome but patronisng park ranger who is both offensive and hostile at every turn, but that doesn’t stop her from falling into his arms at each turn.
Terrified of his own volatile emotions and hurting Dani because of a similarly volatile past, Caleb’s struggle is with tempering inflammatory feelings, and Dani just happens to provoke them. His struggle is also in believing that he will follow in the same destructive footsteps as his parents so he doesn’t trust himself, and he doesn’t trust that he won’t cage Dani. And so it becomes a friction fest of passionate desire, aggravation, aggression, hostility, provocation and attraction. Dani found science to fill a hole, and Caleb found forestry for the same reason, and they both share a sense of loneliness that’s always been with them, but Caleb’s demons are the biggest hindrance to his life..and this story.
This story would have worked and would have had the potential to work if it centred on a protagonist - with all due respect - who wasn’t Caleb Hunt. To begin with, Caleb’s character is quite detached, arrogant and cold (and continues this way throughout most of the story) seeing Dani’s worth in her appearance alone and completely disregardful of her intellectual integrity and her purposes for research. At first I really wasn’t sure how to feel about Caleb; I found him frustrating but I thought like most bad boys of this alluring genre he would redeem himself in some crucial way or at least possess admirable qualities that would set him apart.
In the early stages of reading my mind revolved around one thought: this story will only work if he stands as a stark comparison to the rest of the abominable men that Dani has the displeasure of interacting with…and although he did in some ways stand apart, it wasn’t by a great distance. He didn’t prove to be much better in the way of these disparaging men, because even if he wasn’t physically violent he was verbally and emotionally antagonistic. Caleb really had a chance to prove himself - and I really wanted him to because like everything, his character and the story had potential - but he himself as well as the way he was written did him little favour.
Caleb’s emotional intelligence is questionable, and although he has his reasons for being the way that he is, his past felt like a bad excuse for his behaviour toward Dani. There were some real opportunities he could have worked in his favour to make him look better while still playing the bad boy; to be the knight of the forest, both handsome and ready to show his mettle when it really mattered, but he has suspect flaws that question his role as an alluring and male protagonist; flaws that aren’t resolved and played a role in my not-so-flattering distaste for him. The main protagonists have to work with the story to make it enjoyable; if the characters don’t prod at what’s relatable then the read will most likely fall flat for the reader, and this is what happened for me.
Because, aside from my conflicts with character expression and development I thought the storyline had promise: the hardworking scholar who falls for a man of the wilderness; I liked hearing about Dani’s research and the mining threat to Caleb’s park, but there wasn’t much of a story outside of a flailing romance that I’m not sure I can call a romance. There is a twist in the middle that gets the heart beating, but it left little in the way of excitement. Apart from this though I think the bedroom scenes were really well written and provided a wonderful level of heat. It was just a shame that Dani kept losing her self-respect and self-regard when Caleb didn’t offer her anything in return or do anything to earn her admiration. He is labeled as ‘kind’ and a ‘good man’, but I was here wondering when exactly he’d show these traits except for the times when he was doing his duty as a forest ranger.
Maybe Caleb needed to overcome the roadblock of receiving absolute love for him to offer something in return, but there were too many conditions hinging on him being a better person, and as much as I’m glad he saw some reality in the end, it left a lot to be desired because I didn’t believe the sustainability of Dani’s and Caleb’s potential as a couple when truth be told, they barely knew each other. I understand that Caleb has reservations and is trying to keep Dani safe but the consequence is that the outcome always seems to be one of verbal or emotional hurt. I understand that his fear can drive him to say and do awful things, and maybe it takes someone like Dani to highlight a different side of himself; to show him some love but he doesn’t show that he’d fight for her in any significant way and expects her to continue chasing him.
I think Caleb’s violence against the baddies In the story was supposed to present him as the hero who has no mercy for anyone who messes with his girl, but it doesn’t come off this way and nor should it because Caleb definitely has unresolved issues. I don’t think a relationship alone is what’s going to heal him, I think he should pour his efforts into seeking some therapy and perhaps something of this type of healing would have been beneficial to this story….because it does take a lot more than simple attraction to become a desirable male lead.
Dani’s character needed a decent compass for self control. She’s kind, caring, tenacious and leads with a good heart but she overlooked Caleb’s unfair behaviour because of a bond she felt for him - that I as a reader couldn’t see - and an attraction that really wasn’t substantial enough to form a story on. She offers him love in the face of his coldness, and her own disposition enables the way Caleb treats her. I know she does this out of consideration and compassion but I felt like she chased him as a way to placate her own loneliness, and I think she has to take responsibility for the way she lets him make her feel. I think she even lets her attraction for him belie her good sense. I was all the more surprised when I realised that she considered risking her career for him, starting to see him as a love interest when both could barely hold a conversation, but maybe they shared a bond that wasn’t evident enough for me pick up on.
I love reading about bad boys, enemies to lovers, hate to love romances so long as the bad boy in question has some substantially redeemable bones in his body. There has to be a certain way of writing a bad boy and for that to work he can’t be pushed past the line of likeable in a way that may potentially be irreversible, or in turn to indeed actually push that line of ‘likeable’ but in a contrived way that leaves a lot of space for them to come back from it. Or they have a distinct trajectory from bad boy to lovable bad boy. I can’t say Caleb fits in this category for me because I didn’t feel that he cared for Dani’s welfare and he treated her in a way that hinted of abuse.
Overall I felt that both Caleb and Dani didn’t know each other well enough for their relationship to not just be completely believable, but also acceptable. After reading ‘Worth the Risk’ however, I didn’t feel deterred to read more from this author because one bad experience shouldn't taint the rest to come. And seeing that I’m interested in seeing more men write in this genre, I’m still open to reading more…so we shall see how this goes!
‘Sometimes you had to risk it all for the chance of something spectacular. Caleb was glad that Dani had shown him that.’
“I’m sure I’ll survive. It’s not like I’ll melt in the rain.” “No, of course, you won’t. Only girly made of sugar and spice and everything nice melt. You look like you’d go down in flames.”
Trigger Warning: Topics that mention alcoholism, domestic abuse and violence. Profanity and descriptive sex scenes, violence, sexual harassment and attempted rape.
A beautiful love story featuring Caleb and Dani. Caleb is a park ranger with a wounded heart and lots of emotional scars from his father. He has no interest in a relationship but the minute he meets sexy biologist Dani he is instantly attracted to her. She has a grant to study frogs in his park so they are constantly thrown together. They face some danger from the miners and lots of drama. This book is well written and very emotional. Weston Has done a great job with this book. I received an advance copy and also read via kindle unlimited and voluntarily chose to review it.
And you've read them all. Good-ish guy that has a sad past turns away fiesty woman who won't give up. And repeat. Minor mystery in the middle and blah surrounding it.
The totality of the content and plot in this book is so bad, I don’t even know where to begin. There’s not a single male character who isn’t wildly abusive towards the heroine, from page one to page fin.
From the beginning, the “hero”, Caleb, he of the I Can Never Ever Fall In Love archetype, thinks the heroine, Dani, is too hot to be a scientist, which she is. She’s a doctorate holding biologist embarking on a field research project. He is wildly disrespectful of the fact that they are crossing paths because she’s a professional and on the premises to do her job. Her literal job. With research notes and reference texts. Which he *throws on the ground* because he had a clever plan to piss her off into having angry sex with him. It doesn’t get better from there. It doesn’t get cute or sweet or intimate, it stays abusive, dismissive, and demeaning.
Dani’s also being pursued by her BOSS, who is threatening not to promote her if she doesn’t date him. He’s gross and lays traps for her. She tries to stay professional but the threatening situations are too real and too horrifying to make for decent fantasy reading. Instead of expressing a modicum of emotional intelligence or ability to read body language, Caleb misses every opportunity to white-knight Dani out of this awful, predatory situation with her boss, and resounds with venom, jealousy, and more emotional and verbal abuse. There’s no resolution to this major character flaw from our “hero,” apparently his cruelty, jealousy, and rapid assumption jumping is justified by his Tragic Upbringing TM.
There’s also a half dozen men who eventually capture Dani and Caleb in a too-stupid-to-live double feature, and come entirely too close to graphically gang raping Dani and murdering her, in my Definitely Favorite, Definitely Not The Absolute Worst plot device in history, threaten sexual violence against a woman to give a man the chance to save her! Hooray!
Do things ever improve? They, in fact, do not! We got an extra loathsome vignette of Caleb’s best friend lecturing him about losing out on love in which he reminisces on his One Who Got Away with the following:
“I spent a fortune on her, endless bouquets of flowers, jewelry, even a f*ing car. I begged and pleaded, I even threatened to hurt myself. But she was a heartless b****, and she delighted in torturing me."
Charming! What a guy! That’s definitely not TEXTBOOK abuse. I’m definitely not OVERJOYED that woman got away from his manipulative schemes. Never fear, my friends, I’m pretty sure he’s the, ahem, hero of his own volume in this series, because I’m sure we’re all dying to see him get the happy ending he deserves.
The end really encapsulates the misguided clusterfrack that this entire novel was from the very first page. In a final confrontation with her slimy boss, Dani decides to protect Caleb from his own inevitable violent actions by punching her boss in the face. I think it’s supposed to be a feminist victory we’re to applaud, but it’s pretty hollow. Dani ends up getting fired from the university, but it’s all going to be okay, because Caleb plans on getting her pregnant right away, so she can just worry about her silly sciencing later. She doesn’t need a career! Now that he’s done pouting about his deep emotional trauma, not because he’s done a lot of work with a professional therapist, but because a girl chased him to his brooding nest, he’s ready to start a family, yesterday!
Also, dream sequences. Who doesn’t totally-love-definitely-not-hate dream sequences???
Good stuff: At least it wasn’t written in 1st person?

This is a well written book and flows easily from one scene to the next. It's an interesting, unique story. Well done, Weston!
This is an epic love story! Dani is feisty, strong, daring and tough-as-nails when she needs to be. Caleb is a damaged soul who has refused to allow himself to form meaningful attachments out of fear he'll repeat the sins of his father. When he meets Dani, all his promises to himself seem empty and hollow. Until the miners are discovered, though, and they threaten both his and Dani's lives. Caleb realizes that the depth of his feelings for her is the scariest thing he has ever known.
This book has all the feels - you'll hate Caleb one minute while swooning over him the next. Don't worry - this is exactly how Dani handles him, too, and the fireworks between these two are hot, passionate, and truly explosive! Just when you think the author is going to wrap it all up in a neat little bow, the story takes a different turn by avoiding the easy answer in favor of a more realistic solution. It's a gut-wrenching road to their HEA, but it's well worth the journey.
I purchased this book when I learned that it contained two sequels (though these may not be included indefinitely). The first sequel, Worth the Distraction, follows the love story of a couple that we met in Worth the Risk. The third book continues with characters that were introduced in the second book. Each of these love stories is as brilliantly written as the first, and are well worth the purchase. All together, this is an amazing set of contemporary romances set in the Pacific Northwest, with heroines that deserve hero status all on their own and alpha males that are strong, sexy yet flawed and authentic book boyfriends.
A fast paced great read with characters that I couldn't help but feel for along with some suspense, danger, action and lust/love all rolled into a book that held my attention from the first page. Caleb has a dark past that leads him to a rule, no relationships only one night stands, thus making himself a loner and always being on his own with few friends. Dani is a smart woman who happens to be a professor and is studying frogs in Caleb's forest. She is also like Caleb, a loner with few friends and no lasting relationships. Their first meeting has sparks flying with Caleb trying to rile her up and Dani trying to rein in her anger at the man trying to get on her nerves. Soon they can't deny the attraction but Caleb keeps pushing her away, not wanting to hurt her due to his past but when their lives are in danger he will do anything to protect her....will it be enough. A great great fast paced steamy hot read that had me melting but also feeling their pain, loneliness and passion all at once. I enjoyed Caleb, his struggles with his feelings and what he thought was best and Dani's anger towards him when he pushes her away but also her struggle with not being able to deny him. The story flowed seamlessly, with amazing characters and great character development along with the danger and suspense that made the book that much more and Dani & Caleb finally getting their HEA with a dream at the end that pulled at my heartstrings makes it a recommended read that won't disappoint. *I voluntarily reveiwed an ARC of this book*
When Caleb Hunt finds himself entranced with the feisty Professor Dani French, he cannot help but push her limits just as much as she pushes him. Preferring his loner ways, being a Park Ranger in the midst of a developing State Park, in Oregon- she is a welcome, yet an unwelcome set of frustrating distractions. Determined to show everyone including the cocky, smug grinning, confusing Ranger Hunt, she is capable of handling the wilderness, and her research on the frogs will prove worthwhile. Instant hot, mind-numbing attraction between these two. When these two lonely hearts connect in fiercely passionate ways, they can't seem to stop that same fierce passion from tearing them apart again. There are so many dangerous obstacles standing in the way of broken Park Ranger, and a lot tougher than she looks Biologist from Texas their union just doesn't seem like it will ever be... Holy hotness! Oooh, this one will get you going one way or another! This frustrating, sexy, plot-twisting beast of a tale- was witty, with such an emotional heart tug to it, no matter how much I thought Caleb needed to get his crap together, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him! Weston Parker pulled out all the stops with this one! I didn't want the story to end! Hearted this uniquely written read so much! #OneClick material right here!
4.25 stars This is the first book I have read by the author and look forward to reading more. Brice Masterson has received a sizeable inheritance from his father’s will including a large chunk of land. His uncle, Wesley Masterson has been trying to contest the will for his own benefit and repay his debts to no avail. Danielle is a research scientist who has garnered a grant, from Brice’s foundation, to allow her to study frogs. Her boss, Dr. Jeffrey Fischer, is attracted to her and holds her tenure in his hands. Caleb is the sexy alpha forest ranger who is charged with looking after Danielle while she is in his park collecting samples. Danielle and Caleb are highly attracted to each other. However there is danger afoot. This is an enjoyable read with suspense, witty banter and steamy scenes. It is definitely one book that you want to add to your shelf. I volunteered to read and arc for a review.
Dani is a scientist who is going to do research in the forest after receiving a grant to study frogs. She is new to camping, but that won't stop her, she needs to throw herself into her work. But she doesn't count on the chemistry she feels for the Ranger!!
Caleb enjoys his solitude and peace, he knows he will soon be joined by a local scientist, but he wasn't expecting Dr. French to be a gorgeous young female. He doesn't do relationships or get close to anyone, but after a short time with Dani, she makes him want more of her and out of life. But when Caleb's secrets come out, will Dani accept him? Can Caleb believe that someone truly loves him? Will they risk love for each other?
This book has mystery, scandal, love, lust, hot steamy sex scenes and full of emotions that both characters have to overcome to continue moving forward. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Grab the tissues and strap yourself in for an emotional roller-coaster ride. The chemistry between these two loners is enough to singe your fingertips through your reader. Dani's always been focused on her career so she never noticed how alone she'd become. Caleb survived a crappy childhood that he vowed never to repeat so he keeps everyone at arms length. It broke my heart watching these two resist the powerful connection between them. As with any Parker title, Ali or Weston, there's so much more here than just an amazing love story. There's drama, intrigue, even a little bit of social commentary cleverly disguised as plot devices, and lots and lots of steamy heat. Dani and Caleb fight through so much, and as the reader you experience it all with them. I'm a little numb and emotionally exhausted now. But every word was worth it. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.
Two very different loners, one a Drop dead Gorgeous Parks Ranger who loves the quiet and serenity of the forest and an equally Hot Scientist looking for some much needed relaxation in the wilderness come together in this Dangerous ,Sexy and often times Hilarious Adventure to help save the one thing they both love without a doubt ..the National Park . This was an exciting storyline that I loved reading very much , because of my love for the outdoors . The relationship between Dani and Caleb was like a rollercoaster of emotions , fighting there attractions to each other kept me reading especially when they found themselves in more trouble than they could handle . A Beautifully written , exciting storyline I'm glad I got the chance to read. Voluntarily read this arc.
**I am voluntarily reviewing an Advanced Readers Copy of this book** Worth the Risk was overall a solid read by Weston Parker. What I struggle with is my dislike for the H, Caleb. He is a jerk, most of the book, wishy washy about Dani, the h, part of the book. He's happy to f**k, but no way into having a relationship, unless he's close to her and then he can't help but jump her. I get he has baggage, don't we all, but I felt he was using her to get off. Dani, often wasn't much better, but at least she knew she had feelings for him. The book was well written, compelling, and had some nice tension, but I have to connect with the characters and just didn't with these two.
This was beyond boring. It dragged on to the point where I started skipping pages to get to something interesting. If your looking for something hot and exciting skip this. There are a total of 3 sex scenes and their very basic. Besides the fact that the alpha goes from being into Dani to calling her a slut is not my cup a tea. I'm all for aggressive alphas but he just seemed like an asshole. Don't bother reading.
Holy crap I LOVE this book! I connected with this book easily simply because my passion for wildlife biology and dream career is wildlife biologist. But that is not the only reason I love this book. The author does a beautiful job telling his story with great description of scenery and emotions of characters. I also have to give props for him in using biology terms correctly, which shows either he is knowledgeable in biology and forestry or he did research for this book and became knowledgeable in these subject. Also I adore his characters Caleb, Dani, Janna, and Brice.
With Caleb and Dani I saw quite a bit of myself in them especially with Dani. Other than the obvious that we both have a passion for Biology, granted while she likes working with amphibians I prefer working with large carnivores and raptors. Our personalities are quite similar it is kind of scary but funny at the same time because of some of the things she does and says is exactly what I would do and say. I also understand her struggle with making it in the world of science for a woman and have had similar problems as Dani did in the book which just made it more easy for me to connect with this book. Now with Caleb I fell for instantly with in the first chapter because of his thought process in how he was going to get in the professors pants, I found it hilarious and it was a point in my book to see how confident he was in his plan. If I could find a man like him I would be set. Jana reminds me a lot of my best friend from college because of how supportive and protective she is of her friends and how quick she is to push them towards a hot man. I would say I wish there was more of her in the book because but then saw that the next book is hers and Brice's story. Which I am really excited for because it seemed like Brice needs his happily ever after as much as Caleb did.
If you haven't gathered so far from reading my review, here it is for you simply stated then. I would highly recommend this book. Now I do not simply say that because of the connections I was able to make to this book but because this is a sound book. I don’t have any negative critiques simply because I did not find any. There were not any moments where I thought "Well this situation is just not possible." or "well that’s just cliché", which has been a problem with books I have read here recently that are similar to this book. I could not find any miss spellings or grammar errors , which is great because I have to be one the worst spellers on this planet and if I can find problems like those then that author or editor has surpassed me. The author was able to pull at my emotions easily and that is not easy to do.
I look forward to reading more of Weston Parker's work and if they are anything like this then I may have found a new author to add to my favorite list!
Oh and side note the Dean of Science is a Equus africanus asinus!!!
For one she should have been recording and reporting all the instances of sexual and regular harassment. She should have told the guy it was inappropriate to speak to her that way. Letting him do so for years was all but giving him permission to continue. If you don’t set firm boundaries people will do and say whatever they want regardless of how you feel. You should never be made to feel like your job relies entirely upon your compliance with harassment or than you need to keep them happy.
For two, NOT ONCE did anyone suggest the Ranger get therapy? He witnessed something traumatic and violent and yet no one thought to suggest he get help especially since he recognised his own anger issues being a problem.
For three, the absolute fuckery that was the chekov’s gun, Dani’s literal gun, not being fired. She kept showing it off, bragging how she could take care of herself. But when the moment came she did nothing with it. In fact she pulled it way later and never even fired it. I HATE THIS. Don’t tell me the female lead can take care of business and then have her become a damsel in need of saving by the character with a huge dick swinging between his legs. It’s a trope that needs to die screaming.
The violent swings between happiness and acceptance and the “I’m not good enough” trope gave me emotional whiplash and annoyed the fuck out of me. If I could give a negative star rating I would.
Wesley Masterson had a profitable scheme in mind for when he inherited his brother’s land at his death…but that scoundrel left it to his son, Brice, and the will bans Wesley from ever getting it. Brice’s ecological plan is progressing and Wesley’s in a precarious position since he’s spent the funds he expected from the land. Wesley hires a team to help him get what he wants anyway.
Working on her tenure, biologist, Dani French arranged to camp on the land to perform her study of the grounds and habitat. Park ranger, Caleb Hunt is working on Brice’s ultimate design for the area. As soon as Dani drives up, the pair share a spark of mutual attraction but they have different methods of showing interest. As well as anger.
Not. A. Fan! Neither lead charmed this reader enough to want them to succeed or invest in them. Dani, the doormat and Caleb the arrogant a**, that couldn’t stop amusing himself, lacked chemistry, for my taste! The premise was fine but the mechanics included multiple POV’s in the same ‘voice’. Unfortunately, those brain cells are gone forever. Rating 2.5stars
This could have been a decent story. It had good components, storyline, romance, good and bad guys, sexy times. What made this story not worth my time was our H Caleb. He was in definite need of counseling to overcome his issues, and Dani well she had issues of her own that allowed Celebs insecurities to cause her emotional harm. They could have been great together, but bc of them both being scared to love, the back and fourth of their relationship got on my nerves! At one point I wanted to smack Dani and say have some pride girl if he only wants your body stop letting him have his way, stop letting him use you! Then bam last chapter...ahhh Caleb sees the light and everything is perfect ( sticking my finger down my throat right now!) To little to late buddy! 1.5 stars bc the storyline had potential but the main characters sucked the life outta that potential!
Caleb hunt was the Park Ranger building a new park for the pubic.. He is also a playboy who is friends with Brice the benefactor of the park. Dani is a professor doing research on frogs working on her tenure. She has the project that is funded by Brice also. There is an immediate attraction. This story is full of intrigue, lust, danger, demons from the past, and love. How will Caleb and Dani get along during her time at the par? Will they be drawn into things they shouldn’t? Can they have a relationship? Grab the book and start reading to find the answers. I couldn’t put the book down. Weston is a talented author who takes his plot and intertwines it with his two dimensional characters to bring us a book that keeps us immersed in it till the end. I received an ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review.
Weston does it again by giving the reader two strong characters that have their flaws but learn to work through them, sometimes a bit to slow, in order to find and keep the one. Caleb Hunt is a forest ranger who believes that he belongs alone. His childhood was horrible and he fears he has his parents in him and he won't subject anyone to that. Dani French is a researcher who has used her career to keep men at bay. She is trying to prove that she can be happy without a man in a man's world of science. These two characters are feisty, strong, independent people who are surprised when they meet and have an immediate attraction. As Dani learns to let Caleb in, Caleb learns to let Dani and and to trust his feelings for her and about her. This is a story worth your time. I was given this book for an honest voluntary review.
This was a great read about Dani, a scientist doing research in parkland, and Caleb, the park ranger who believes he is broken by his history. These two cannot keep away from each other, no matter their intentions, and when they get together, they combust! Caleb has a tragic past, and hopes to “save” Dani by avoiding her. But Dani sees the love in his eyes, and feels the love in her heart, and risks her life to save him. The plot had some twists and turns, so between that and the Acts of God, it was very exciting! Throw in some sleazy behaviour by a boss and a couple of best friends and these memorable characters add up to a well-plotted, thoughtful story full of heart.
I received an arc of this book and have voluntarily reviewed it.
This was the first time that I have had the opportunity to read Weston Parker and it will not be the last. On paper Caleb and Dani are alike in the sense that they both are loners and deal better with being alone rather than with people. However, that is where the similarities end. Dani would rather study her frogs while Caleb just wants the solitude that nature offers due to a tumultuous childhood. There was chemistry right off the bat but the two fought it which led to a moments of hilarity. There was also many moments of danger and suspense amongst many moments of heat.
I really appreciated the Epilogue and the details that were included. I look forward to reading more from this author. I received a complimentary Advanced Reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! What a great series. There is so much going on. There is love, emotions, hotness, danger, and suspense all intertwined into a hard to put down, well written story. Caleb is a ranger in the park where Dani has come to research frogs. Caleb believes in staying there away from people because of issues that he has resulting from his childhood. Then, Dani arrives, and boy, does the chemistry spark between them, but it is far, far from smooth sailing. From there, there are so many twists and turns. Weston Parker, one does a such a great job developing the characters, that you can feel their emotions, and two, sucks you into the story from page one, all the way to the end. It is definitely worth the risk. I voluntarily reviewed this advance copy, and I highly recommend it.
After his childhood, Park Ranger Caleb Hunt has been determined to live a life of solitude. Being an only child, Dr. Danielle French is used be being alone. Neither expected more than one night. Will Caleb and Danielle be able to escape those who wish to harm the National Park? Will Caleb be able to overcome his past to look toward the future?
Definitely thought these two were perfect for each other, even if they were opposites. Loved how despite her childhood of being alone, Danielle was willing to move on and look toward the future. When Caleb finally understood that he wasn't his parents was a wonderful part. Definitely steamy encounters between the two! Great book!

Worth the Risk by Weston Parker was a great read. I enjoy reading about strong, intelligent and capable women who can hold their own against the alpha male. Dr Danielle (Dani) French is a Biologist doing field research in the woods where hunky Park Ranger Caleb Hunter considers the woods/park his domain. Their first meeting ignites the chemistry between these two main characters and stays with them throughout this story. The plot includes; twists, turns, danger, suspense and some very sensual scenes between Dani and Caleb are very hot indeed. I recommend this book for a heart felt and pleasurable read. Excellent contemporary romance between a Forrest ranger and a professor. The author did an excellent job on character development and brought in about childhood traumas. Caleb is a Forrest ranger expecting a stodgy professor but turns out it's Danielle French. The sexual chemistry between them is explosive. Caleb's childhood was extremely traumatic with alcohol and child abuse. His greatest fear is being around someone and looking control. Suddenly, everything changes when an illegal mining is going on in the Forrest and the criminals involved are violent putting both Caleb and Dani in jeopardy.
The story of a forest ranger falling in love with a biologist was a nice change of pace from the usual tropes. I loved that the heroine had a lot of inner strength. The secondary story of illegal mining was interesting too. I wish the uncle's character had been more developed. I liked the setting of the story. I grew up on the edge of the Kettle Moraine Forest so I love nature. I have always wanted to visit the Olympic Mountains in Oregon but me and mountains don't mix. I didn't find the sex scenes all that great. I also don't care for characters that continually do the whole "I'm not worthy" thing.
This is a slight change to the Weston Parker style of writing we've come to know. However, it's an interesting story that combines lots of heat with suspense.
When she decided to head into the forest to do research, Dani never expected to fall for emotionally unavailable Caleb Hunt. On top of their back-and-forth romance, the couple has to deal with other obstacles that threaten to destroy their relationship before it has a chance to bloom.
I did enjoy the story line, and definitely recommend it.

Wow - I totally loved this story. The plot was different and interesting. I loved the characters and felt they were easily relatable. The characters were well-developed. Caleb - I wanted to knock some sense into him towards the middle of the book. If I had been Dani, I probably would have just left him to his misery. She gave him more chances than I would have given him. I'm glad they ended up with their HEA. The twist and turns while dealing with the bad guys was awesome to read!
