THE OLD FARMER'S ALMANAC is like living history to me. Every year I buy a copy, every year I am amazed at how enduring it is, a mix of progress and tradition. On the progressive side, more color articles (and ads); on the conservative side, eighteen regionally zoned weather forecasts and a true almanac for every day of the year, including astrological symbols, planting advice and saints' days. Feature articles for 2019 show the hip influence, including "Plate Your Petals" (growing edible flowers) and interviews with farm-to-table farmers. Yet there are also articles about lunar influence, bees, and an attractively illustrated history of the Zodiac. As always, there's still a hole bored in the upper-left corner of the volume in case you want to hang it in the outhouse. Modern and traditional -- useful and fun. Pure Americana!

I have been reading (and referring) to the Old Farmer's Almanac for many years; I figure that if the Internet ever goes kaput forever (we once lived without it, little children, in the long ago), I can use the Almanac to tell me when sunrise is due. But there is also weather lore and useful information, and I love reading the Almanac each winter before the turn of the year.
The Almanac forecasts the weather, of course (although I would not be surprised if the weather predictions for New England, where the Almanac is based, are more accurate than the ones for for, say, Arizona). But it also gives sunrise and sunset times, the times of eclipses and moon phases, and the back of the Almanac has wind tables, gestation tables, lists of what you can substitute in a recipe, when to plant beans, and when to castrate your cattle. This year's Almanac also includes the pros and cons of keeping backyard livestock, the folklore of bees, why a solar flare might one day cause the Internet to go kaput, and recipes.
I love the Almanac, and I will be keeping this to refer to every day in the smallest room of my house (no, not a closet, or, at least, not that kind of closet).

This was in my room in Playa del Carmen and I've heard about it so I figured I'd give a shot. Seemed very informative for farmers/gardeners and ranchers. Astrology is BS but there's a nice discussion about it and there aren't many predictions based on it. Most of the predictions are based on known scientific phenomenon and they have a section comparing last year's predictions to what actually happened. Very cool. There are also various stats with the sources provided. If only other sources of news were so diligent. I don't have a need to read the new one every year but I enjoyed this one. And I love that it's been published annually for well over 200 years. An interesting project would be to see how science behind the predictions changed over time and the amount of astrology content.

A wonderful guide to those of us who have moved to New pastures
This allows homesteads to adjust to the surroundings to allow for a decent garden to feed ourselves while settling in.

Disappointed....
The book has a lot of information, but I thought I would read more things, oh well next time I will keep reading online instead.
