A fabulously fun and crazy mystery that has smiling and on the edge of your seat at the same time with a surprise ending! I LOVE this series full of close friends and strong characters! Felicity was hired to cater a party for the Zombie TV show that is set in their little town of Senoia. It was so much fun for Felicity and Jefferson to plan and execute this party and all her group of friends including her parents signed on to help just to be there even though Felicity herself never watched the show. Then there was a scream and Felicity knew something was wrong. A murder of one of the extras and although Felicity wanted to stay away from her past wanna-be sleuthdom...she is drawn in by the producer of the TV show to investigate along with the police since he had heard of her reputation of crime solving. But she didn't want to accept until her mother came up and sort of accepted for her. Her mother was so excited to get into helping Felicity solve this murder...although Felicity definitely had huge misgivings of having her mother's "help." And so the mystery goes with lots of red-herrings, subterfuge and some laughs. I loved this 7th book in the series and can't wait for more! This series is a must read! Each book in the series tops the one before, if that is even possible! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own!
Don't be put off by my review. I really gave this 2.5 stars, then rounded it down, plus my complaints about the book are most likely because it's in the middle of the series and I have not read any others. It was fun and I suspect I will read more starting from the beginning. I did enjoy this!
Felicity, who has suffered a major emotional loss that happens in a book earlier in the series, runs an event planning business in the town of Senoia, someplace in the US I presume (that's one of my complaints - geography is an important part of a plot for me -- even if made-up - is it southern US or Pacific NW? I have no idea from reading this one). Senoia is also the location where the popular TV series Zombie Zone is filmed and Felicity is hosting an event for the Zombie Zone production team at the set, with all the servers wearing zombie make-up. Of course, murder occurs at the party and the cast member victim's face is painted with zombie makeup after death.
Felicity, who has a reputation as a successful amateur PI (as evidenced by 6 previous cozy mysteries in the series), is hired by the show's producer to investigate and solve the murder as he has no faith in the local police.
This is really novella length and actually a lot of fun if somewhat thin on plotting. The whole Zombie Zone setting and fandom revealed is a hoot. As are the shenanigans of Felicity's parents. There's a really cute kid in it too. It only needs a dog or cat with personality and a bit more sophistication to the plotting.
The story was interesting and not as straightforward as I would have expected. The story kept me guessing until the very end, which is rare for me. I enjoyed how everything fell into place in the end and it all made sense. The ending didn’t feel forced at all and came together very well. It was also very interesting how they incorporated the local TV show into the mystery. There was a lot more to the store than simply just throwing together a bunch of misunderstood actors.
Sadly Jack wasn’t really in this book, though that might be a good thing, as he always seems to get into trouble when he looks into a case with Felicity. We also get to know more about Felicity’s parents in this book, as she does spend some time with her mother in this book. Her mother is really fun to get to know, and I can not see why Felicity is so skeptical of what people say to her. Jefferson was really supportive and though he could have been written to use the situation to his advantage he never does.
Well we're back for the 7th book in this series and it might be the best yet. Felicity is living back at her parents home and really they are acting rather strange but she still hires them as servers at her latest party. In fact all her friends are working that night. You see this party is on the set of "Zombie Zone". With everyone dressed like zombies, everything is going great. But this wouldn't be a Felicity Overton book without a body. Que screaming. The body of one of the show extras is found all made up as a Zombie. Felicity is hired (for real money) to investigate the murder. With the help of her mother, who seems to have a past with Chief of Police Morgan, they convince him to let them investigate and share information. As usual I had no idea who committed the murder. Everytime I was sure I knew, I was wrong. I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review
It’s three months after the horror of Felicities last sleuthing adventure during which her fiance Brian was murdered. She has temporarily moved back in with her parents as she tries to cope with her understandable grief and sadness over what happened, and has sworn off of sleuthing. Overton’s host a party on the set of the locally filmed blockbuster Zombie Zone when towards the end of the evening a body is discovered. Will Felicity be tempted to investigate? Yes, with the help of a surprise sleuth. Susan excels once again grabbing the reader and pulling them in for a fast pace whirl through life and the film set. You are swept along travelling through some twists and surprises to reach the conclusion which brings some major changes for some of the characters. We also learn some interesting snippets about Felicity's’ family. Another great read in the Senoia Cozy Mystery series.
Undercover With The Undead, the latest addition to Susan Harper's Senoia Cozy Mystery series, continues a few months forward from the previous book. Loved the book and the introduction of a few new characters - specifically the parents of the series' female lead Felicity Overton. Undercover With The Undead is probably my favorite from the series as Harper's characters have strong, solid story lines that can be explored alongside the primary plot of solving mysteries. My interest in the series is no longer solely about sitting down with a cozy mystery. I now am as curious to read about the characters as I am about seeing what the latest mystery will be in Harper's corner of Senoia.
This is an original cosy mystery, with a a great fun plot. But what I really enjoy about it is the characters, Felicity and her friends are all really well established characters now and have continued to develop through the series, but I also like that the author keeps throwing new and interesting characters at us, in particular Felicity's parents are certainly very eccentric, but at the same time they are just the right side of believable. Lots of twists and turns and new clues turning up make sure that it is almost impossible to guess 'whodunnit' and why, so it ticks all the boxes for a real cosy mystery, and there is some good news at the end as well to round it off nicely.
another awesome read by Susan Harper. I love all her Books they are always good read and never disappoint and this was no exception. Felicity wasn't going to take any more cases after what happened to Brian turning up dead in last case and nearly killing autumn. But she kinda got pushed into this case and it was her dream show only one of the cast turn up dead with their faces painted with a zombie mask. lots of twists and turns, I didn't guess who it was at all. great read 5 🌟 from me all the way.
Susan Harper has penned yet another winning installment in her Senoia Cozy Mystery series. This series has gotten better with each new release, and this is the best book to date. The book is well written, and the story moves along quickly with just the right amount of mystery and humor. The characters are well developed, very likeable, and their relationships have continued to grow and change. Follow Felicity, her family and friends as her business continues to thrive, she gets a paying PI gig, and receives an offer that may well change her life.
The gang is back and surprises galore abound throughout the book. Love the characters and each story shows how the gang grows closer and more caring. If you love a cozy mystery, you will love this series. This book is worth your time and you will be happy that you read it. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Felicity moves back home after her fiance Brian is killed. She opens an Events Planning business as a distraction and business really begins to boom. When a member of the community is murdered, Felicity is only too happy to help find the culprit. Thrilling cozy mystery that you'll love!
Lots of fun in this book. Just when you think you know whodunnit, it makes you think otherwise. Of course you can never go wrong when Zombies are involved, even if they are just actors.
Felicity and the gang are up to their elbows in zombies. Then somebody gets killed....for real. Can they find the real killer and why? Read this entertaining fun story.
This is an amazing story that will literally send you to the edge of your seat. This is a gripping story and show the real friendships that surround Felicity.
