Having read this book, one of the most prominent themes was that of the proverbial “can of worms”. Also recognized as “don’t start something, if you can’t handle the consequences”. This is shown through the war of three Mafia Dons, who are in a struggle to survive and recruit the major illegal businesses of the surrounding cities. The war is started over a girl, who wanted two of the Dons for herself until one finds out and beats her up. The other Don started the war in retaliation, and it ends up costing both Dons their lives. The one to live was the one that wasn’t involved with the girl. Many were killed in a fight over her, and it was a lose-lose situation that should have taught them to think of the consequences of their actions before they start attacking each other.
The world view of the author may be reflected in this novel by the way he shows his opinion on the quick escalation of confrontations in the world of this novel, and the real world. To be honest, there was nothing that stood out to make me uncomfortable in this book. It seemed historically accurate from what I can tell, there wasn’t any subject material that put me outside my comfort zone, and it was a book that had a similar mafia storyline to others I have read in the past.
This book would be recommended by me wholeheartedly, as I found it to be a fast paced novel written for the enjoyment of people from any age group. It has elements of a thriller, adventure, romance, and shooter, as well as many other genres that can be inviting for many types of people.
