The only thing Mac wants is money. Well. Money and the respect of his boss.
This was not the plan.
Working at The Gym is supposed to be an easy way to make money, but things get complicated fast. Mac’s first week of one-on-one training in “personal attention” was intense. Week two is all about shadowing his coworkers on the floor, and Mac feels like a spotlight’s shining on him as he…watches.
It’s his job to watch. So he’s doing his job. (And getting paid.) He wasn’t prepared for how weird it would be. And intriguing. And sometimes really freaking hot. Mac tries not to think about it, but since his job is getting off—or watching other people get off—it’s hard to ignore how it makes him feel.
Especially since his bosses and friends are just as invested in his pleasure as they are their client’s.
This was supposed to be a simple transaction. It isn’t.
Trigger Warning: contains a very brief scene of consensual roleplay between adults in which the words “mama” and “little girl” are used.
Kris Ripper lives in the great state of California and zir pronouns are ze/zir. Kris shares a converted garage with a kid, can do two pull-ups in a row, and can write backwards. (No, really.) Ze has been writing fiction since ze learned how to write, and boring zir stuffed animals with stories long before that.
I mentioned in my review of the first book that I was expecting mindless erotica and got so much more. This series has destroyed my productivity for today. I had other things I should have been doing, but I HAD to continue Mac’s story. Normally, I don’t care for sex worker stories; I prefer monogamy and get jealous on behalf of the characters. It’s not like that with this one, though. The people around Mac seem to genuinely care about him and want him to have good experiences and learn to trust.
What a great series. I love the way Kris Ripper writes - the characters are so vivid and creative and interesting. A very unique story and it's been great at every turn.
Is there anyone who's read this series who hasn't been seriously crushing on Coach though?
The story arc continues for Mac, experiencing, learning, and gradually figuring himself out with help from his bosses and co-workers. Critically, this series contains a lot of sex that puts many so-called erotic romance stories to shame. Everything Mac experiences feels genuine, and is extremely plot-critical. Because it is all from his point of view, we're seeing or guessing at everyone else's motives, and it is very clever and revealing and now I'll go nab book 3 because I need to know what happens next!
I binge-read this trilogy in an afternoon/evening. I was expecting fun sexy times. What I got was character development, non-toxic masculinity, a lovely look at nontraditional relationships, and sexy times with an emotional edge.
Mac is an accidental hero, and I loved him, but the true stars of this series are his amazing found family.
High 3.5? Did not scratch my itch the way book 1 did - this one moves to the gym floor and while there are still some great bits of Mac continuing to open up (and Coach helping), more of it is just a series of kink vignettes.
This was a good continuation from the first book and if you’ve read book one I recommend this one. Again, I’m intrigued to see what happens in book 3! The books should be read in order and they aren’t stand-alone books.
Kris has the ability to layer their characters. Even in a book that’s mostly erotica, the characters have a depth about them. That draws you in and connects you in a way that’s as surprising as it is enjoyable. I’m rushing to buy the next installment
