Woolbur, that positive-thinking sheep who marched to the beat of his own drum in author Leslie Helakoski and illustrator Lee Harper's eponymous picture-book, Woolbur, returns in this second adventure, this time confronting his first day of school. Maa and Paa aren't sure he's ready (or that school is ready for him), but Woolbur has no doubts, and his happy outlook proves quite effective, not only at getting him through his first day, but as reassuring some of the other new students...
Having greatly enjoyed both the humorous story and cute illustrations of Woolbur's debut adventure, I picked up Ready or Not, Woolbur Goes to School! with high expectations. All in all, I was not disappointed, finding both text and artwork appealing. I don't know that this one struck me as being quite as humorous as the first, but then, perhaps that's the result of my knowing what to expect. That said, this is one I would recommend, both to fans of Woolbur, and to anyone looking for new "first day of school" stories with a fun, positive, can-do attitude.
I'm so excited for another Wollbur book. He is certainly an individual, and he has a positive attitude!
In this back to school book, his parents have their doubts about sending him to school, but Woolbur is confident he is ready. Throughout the school day, his new classmates are nervous and unsure, but Woolbur encourages them that school is great!
I think Woolbur's confidence and positivity really set this apart from the other back to school books.
So much fun! Woolbur is adorable! I love his exuberance. It's definitely contagious; I feel better about life after reading books about this free-spirited lamb. Lee Harper's illustrations offer the reader so many details to pour over!!! He certainly had fun painting the farmyard school and Woolbur's home. READY OR NOT, WOOLBUR GOES TO SCHOOL! is the perfect choice for young children as they head off to elementary school!
Woolbur is super excited for his first day of school. His parents are a little worried he isn't ready (or that school isn't ready for him). Will Woolbur's unique personality let him shine, or will this be a disaster?
I absolutely love Woolbur's attitude. He is unflappably positive about all the new experiences school provides, and influences others to have better attitudes. We need more Woolburs in the world. This may be just read at the start of the school year that will help kids have good attitudes about the new things they'll face.
Woolbur's parents are not 100% sure that their little lamb is ready for school. Will he be teased by the other kids? Will he make friends? Can he do all of the things the others can do? Foolish sheep! Wilbur's attitude can get him through any challenge that comes his way--and many do. Wilbur's response to every first day difficulty is, "I know, isn't it great!" While other children seem put off by some of the new and different things about school, Woolbur plows right through it all and has a wonderful time too!
What a fantastic book that demonstrates over and over how a positive attitude makes everything easier and better. Woolbur's approach is wonderful and as he is set in each potentially difficult situation we learn that a good attitude is useful skill in every condition. A valuable theme for both adults and children to learn and remember. This is a great book for all, but maybe the best book around for little graders who are about to start school and who have some reservations about it.
Not where I expected this story to go, but okay. Maybe I was looking too deep, but when the parent sheep worry about Woobur going to school and tell Woolbur they won't be like the other kids, and the fact that Woolbur is not gender identified till the second to last page, led me to think there would be some drama with acceptance or differences. Nope. This is more the other kids making comments that show their anxieties and Woolbur responding with "I know, isn't' it great?"So it's more about a child who is excited about starting school and new experiences and others who are not.
For kids that might be a little bit shy about starting school, this book shares the first day of an eager little lamb named Woolbur. Woolbur is the only one around that is super positive that school is going to be awesome. This lamb's optimism is contagious. This would be a good book to share with young children getting ready to start school for the first time, or for any child that is uncertain whether they're going to have a good year or not.
Woolbur's back, and heading off to school with his friends. As usual he aporoaches life with gusto. The story is good, but what makes the Woolbur books so wonderful is the amazing detail in the charming paintings. Every time I look at them I find new details that make me smile. If you have a favorite child to read to, introduce them to Woolbur.
Maa and Paa are not sure if Woolbur is ready for school or if school is ready for Woolbur. But Woolbur shows both his parents that everything is great! While all of the other students are worried about the different food in the cafeteria and the noise on the school bus, Woolbur thinks the variety is wonderful!
Great book for first day/back to school storytimes and talking about attitude.
Woolbur's got a great outlook on life, and greets new and potentially scary experiences with five little words: "I know! Isn't it great?" What a great way to reframe a situation to make it exciting!
Woolbur is not your typical sheep, his parents worry about him starting school. However Woolbur has a positive attitude and his catch phrase, “Isn’t it great!” A great life lesson to embrace differences and challenges.
I love how happy little Woolbur shows readers that lessons aren't always learned in the classroom, and that not all lessons are given by teachers. A must read for families sending off their lambs to school for the first time. The jubilant pictures made me smile. Hoping for a third in this series.
I read this to my grandson several times, and it's a fun book that is meant to celebrate differences, independence, and self confidence. This is about the first day of school, complete with worrying parents. It's a good book to read to all those little ones looking forward to school.
Loved it at first, but then the word kiss lost merit for my 2nd/3rd grade readers and the ending just fell a bit flat for me. Too bad, cause the first Woolbur is AMAZING.
I love the positive attitude of Woolbur. He is excited about kindergarten and just goes with the flow. I think this is a book children will really enjoy because the character is so likable.
This book speaks to my five-year-old daughter who is about to begin Kindergarten. She is a bit of a Woolbur--doing things her own way and ready for adventures.
Wilbur is ready for school but not everyone thinks his "isn't it great" attitude will get him through. Who's right? love Wilbur's sense of self. preschool and up
Woolbur is a unique sheep with a positive outlook on life. A great example for young children and how to handle new experiences like the first day of school.
Woolbur goes to school for the first time and does things his way and "Isn't it great?!" One independent sheep with ideas of his own and doesn't let anything dampen his spirit and the day.
