Conflict of Interest #3

Approaching the Bench

Rate this book
A tenacious, resilient female judge must find a way to work with her carefree clerk as they find themselves in danger when a fugitive sets his sights on revenge in the third book in New York Times bestselling author Chantal Fernando’s sexy and thrilling Conflict of Interest Series.

Trinity Williams, known as “Medusa” for her stony expressions and unyielding reputation, constantly has her guard up—how else is the youngest female judge in the country supposed to survive in such a male-dominated profession? She made the decision long ago that laughter and a carefree attitude have no business in a courtroom and achieving her professional goals is the only thing she has left. It’s just her luck that her new law clerk, Callum Hopkins, believes the exact opposite.

Callum Hopkins thinks that nothing should ever be too serious in life—why can’t he mix business with pleasure? When he first starts working for his hot new boss, they clash at every turn. He makes it his mission to get Judge Williams to see things his way for once.

But when Callum finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time as an escaped convict comes after Trinity, he realizes it’s not all fun and games anymore. Now in witness protection together until the authorities can catch the fugitive, this unlikely pair must learn to trust one another and work together to stay alive. Far away from the courtroom, Trinity and Callum are suddenly free to stop butting heads, and stop fighting the growing attraction between them.

3.5 stars. Enjoyable but not as much as some of the others in the series, I seem not to enjoy the novellas as much. But I really like Chantal Fernando way of writing compelling characters and plot.

The third book in the Conflict of Interest series by Chantal Fernando, Approaching the Bench, much like its predecessors, did not disappoint. I fell in love with the series at the beginning, and each book made me fall even more in love.

Trinity and Callum are judge and law clerk respectively, and Trinity doesn’t know if she can cross the line to be with her law clerk. A series of events that puts them both in danger changes her perspective for the good. Age is nothing but a number and logical Trinity soon discovers that her heart and soul lies, in the sarcastic, and chatty law clerk that won’t back down.

Trinity setting out to be a no nonsense judge from the get go, being the youngest female judge in the state she sets the bar high. Her first sentencing comes back to bite her years later, when secrets are revealed and the original sentencing gets extended due to actions by the parolee. Callum makes sure Trinity is safe and their love blossoms over time.

I love this series and cannot wait to see what Chantal brings to the table next. Great characters and story, this is a nice and quick read. Five stars.

An older female and younger male romance featuring a woman who will not be looked down upon. She's uptight and tenacious and when someone tries to kidnap her, they're lives are more intertwined than ever. Loved the heat and the plot is a little confusing but meh. Recommend!

Short quick sexy read about a young woman judge, Trinity, who feels the need to prove herself in the courtroom, becoming known to co-workers and colleagues as "Medesa" for her no nonsense, serious mode all the time.

And then comes Callum, her new younger law clerk and yes, of course a cutie to boot. He was daring in his interaction with Trinity, like actually trying to have a conversation with her! But he had a great sense of humor and it was hard not to like him.

Like I said, a short story, but good. Makes a good in-between read!

I was provided an ARC of this book through NetGalley for an honest review.

The third book in the Conflict of Interest series by Chantal Fernando,Approaching the Bench, is much like the previous books in this series- full of action and intrigue with a huge helping of sizzling passion. Trinity and Callum make a great couple in this book, with her being the boss and him just starting out in his career. Callum is a guy who sees the glass half full while Trinity is the glass half empty type of gal. Callum knows he's attracted to Trinity, and doesn't have a problem admitting it from the start. I liked Trinity and I loved how she knew there was this intense sexual attraction for her younger colleague yet she couldn’t act on it because he was her law clerk and she is in a position of power. She really had this deep attraction for him, this intense feeling for him but had to hid her feelings because of her job and because she didn’t want to at first face the feelings this younger man was causing in her. (Note, Trinity is only 6 years older than Callum.) And this wouldn’t be a Chantal Fernando book without an element of danger which this story does have. Do Trinity and Callum get to have their HEA? Only way to find out is by reading this fantastic read.

My Rating: 4.5 stars *****

I have always been in love with this authors books. And this book was no exception.

Callum secured a job as a clerk for Judge Trinity Williams and this was exactly what he has wanted. But what he didn't expect was that he would be attracted to the cold intimidating women who's his boss. And Judge Williams can't believe that she is attracted to her new clerk. His just not what she wants. Too sweet and caring and too young that she doesn't know how to deal with him

But when an abduction got seriously wrong, she and Callum has to go in hiding. And that is when the fire works really starts.

I loved this book. Callum was attracted to his boss but he never disrespected her at work. She was the boss during the day but at night he showed her exactly who the boss was in the bedroom. I loved the suspense and the romance and the total hotness of this story. I need more. Can't wait for the next one

This is a very sweet, short story. It was a well written book and kept my attention from beginning to end.

Trinity is the youngest High Court Judge in her county and she is as hard as nails. With only one friend and no family, she has worked hard to get to this point in her life and she is serious in and out of work.

Callum is her new intern. He is everything she isn't: younger, more smiley and infuriatingly chatty. Nothing perturbs him; he is happy, happy, happy! Trinity isn't too fond of his constant questions and happy personality...or so she likes to make herself think.

These two are so right for each other; opposites attract and all that. It takes a dramatic event to get Trinity to let her walls down. Their chats and his persistence are both funny and endearing.

I haven't read any of Chantal Fernando's books before but I'm now going to read the next in this series of standalone's, Leading The Witness.

His woman only needs to speak once and Callum moves into action, “we can do more exploring in bed,” I say, and before I know it he has me buckled in the front seat, and we’re on the road back to the farmhouse." Callum is always anticipating time with his woman, “I can’t wait to go back home and be back in my own bed.” I look to Trinny. “Or to try out your bed.” I liked this book, I loved Callum.

Approaching the Bench is the third book in the Conflict of Interest series by Chantal Fernando. This was a quick sexy read with a little action on the side.

Callum Hopkins is Judge Trinity “Medusa” Williams’s new young hot law clerk. Trinity is a reputation for being a tough judge; she is all business all the time. Callum has a carefree attitude that clashes his new boss. But with her past is coming after her, will Trinity and Callum fight the chemistry between them?

I love a good office romance and add some suspense, even better. Callum was great in the first two books, but now he is my hero; a true gentleman. Callum and Trinity were great together and the bantering between them was hilarious.

Chantal’s writing is very addicting; once I start reading her books I can’t put them down. Highly recommend this series; now bring on Leading the Witness!

I had made a lot of notes and comments while reading this book, but I think it comes down to this: I have tried numerous times to read indie romances and they just aren’t for me.

I’m picky with my books. I want my real world facts to be present in the books I read (i.e. it takes longer than overnight for a DNA match to come back); I want my characters to not all be carbon copies of every other book (petite woman, tall man, some tragedy in their pasts, and apparently, green eyes); I want my suspense to feel real and present, not just a plot device to get two people alone together; I want the writing and the characters to be fleshed out.

Sadly, this book had too much of the above for me to find it enjoyable.

REVIEW: 3.5 stars--APPROACHING THE BENCH is the third instalment in Chantal Fernando’s contemporary adult CONFLICT OF INTEREST erotic, romance legal novella series. This is thirty-one year old judge Trinity Williams, and twenty-five year old law clerk Callum Hopkins’ story line. APPROACHING THE BENCH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Callum was first introduced in books one and two- Breaching the Contract and Seducing the Defendant.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Callum and Trinity) APPROACHING THE BENCH follows the forbidden relationship between Judge Trinity Williams, and her law clerk Callum Hopkins. Since her early career Trinity Williams has had a reputation as a cold and calculation person, something that does not go unnoticed by our story line hero but when a threatening letter lands on her desk, Trinity is willing to dismiss even if Callum suspects something more sinister is going on. An attempted kidnapping of Trinity Williams finds both Trinity and Callum in protective custody, where their attraction to one another will grow into something more. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Callum and Trinity, and the potential fall out when their whereabouts are discovered threatening any semblance of peace and security that was slowly beginning to build.

The relationship between Callum and Trinity is one of forbidden attraction as Trinity is Callum’s boss, and workplace romances are frowned upon even in the legal system. Callum continues to push the boundaries of a working friendship as Trinity struggles to remain professional in the face of their growing attraction. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Callum’s father Richard, his half-brother Justin, and best friend Eddie. The requisite evil is a familiar face to our story line heroine.

APPROACHING THE BENCH is a quick read; a reversal of power structure in that our heroine has all of the control at work while Callum has all of the control in the bedroom. The premise is entertaining; the romance is sexy and hot; the characters are energetic and inspiring.

In the third installment from Chantal Fernando’s Conflict of Interest series, the hero and heroine will have to cross quite the professional boundaries in order for anything romantically to occur between them, not just because one is a judge and the other is her law clerk, but also because Judge Williams’ first sentencing defendant seeks retribution for his conviction and won’t stop until he’s achieved payback.

Even though Approaching the Bench is a novella, Fernando packs it full of suspense, drama, and sexual tension. There’s a lot on the line for both Trinity and Callum, so the situation they find themselves in which actually gives them a chance to act on all those suppressed feelings for one another is both beautiful and terrifying.

I love the fact that the heroine, Trinity Williams, is in the power position in this story, and she’s worked her butt off to achieve her title as the youngest female judge, but her career hasn’t come without sacrifices because while she understands the magnitude of her profession and the need to rule with an iron fist, she has no outlet for the typical kind of ‘fun’ women her age get to experience due to their less demanding, less male-dominated work environment.

That’s why Callum Hopkins is the perfect guy to go into Witness Protection with Judge Williams because while they’ve done nothing but butt heads in the office/courtroom due to their difference of opinion when it comes to how one should act in a professional setting, in the outside world, they’re just Callum and Trinity and they can finally give into what’s mean kindling between them and explore who they truly are and how good they can be together when all of the pressure of professionalism doesn’t apply.

I really enjoyed Trinity and Callum’s story; it’s a quick and action packed read that will keep readers’ interest from the start, and they’ll be crushing on Callum as soon as he’s introduced because he has a good head on his shoulder but he also tries not to take life too seriously or else a lot of the fun life offers will be missed.

ARC received via Netgalley for an honest review

This 3rd installment of the Conflict of Series is a quick, suspenseful and sexy read.

I liked the reversal in the balance of power between Trinity and Callum, with her being the boss and him just starting out in his career. The attraction between them is undeniable, and whilst I could understand her reluctance to start anything, you just knew she wouldn't hold out forever.

I just adored Callum. We have met him in the earlier books, but now, oh my! That smirk - no wonder Trinity can't resist.

Ms Fernando turns up the heat when our lovelies end up in close quarters, and I just couldn't help but love it.

Ms Fernando is one of my aut0-buy authors, and can't wait to see what she brings us next.

Approaching the Bench by Chantal Fernando is one of those "perfect for bedtime" reads because it is short and sexy.

I found this story interesting given that Trinity, the heroine, is the one with the power and Callum is sort of her trainee at work for lack of a better word.

I enjoyed how Callum tries to get to know her at a personal level, and no matter what he does, Trinity's walls don't crumble. His attentive nature toward her had me melting for him, and I just loved his relationship with his brother and his dad.

Callum is this optimistic kind of guy, who will always find a way to make things work. Barriers don't scare him. I think one of the qualities I enjoyed most is how he never doubts himself. He knows he's attracted to Trinity, and doesn't have a problem admitting it from the get-go.

I liked Trinity too, and I understood her dilemma about him being younger than her. Not by a lot but still. Personally, I stay away from romances where the heroine is older than the man. I don't know what it is but I just can't connect, therefore I don't read those. With Approaching the Bench, I didn't realize this was the scenario until I started reading it.

But then I thought Trinity's and Callum's age difference is just like Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky. She's 6 years older than him, and you look at them and they're madly in love.

Overall, this was a sexy read nicely wrapped up with an epilogue.

Approaching The Bench was such a charming read, if a bit too short for my tastes. Nothing wrong with a shorter romance, however I became so involved with this story and these wonderful characters I just wanted more. This story features a heroine that is the youngest female judge on the bench. And the hero is her legal aid. And yeah sparks fly, but when her life is put in danger and Callum saves her life, they both are put in protective custody and sent to a house in the country.

I found this story to be so sweet, sexy and fun. The bantering between these two is just awesome. The heorine is very closed off, but in her profession, she has to be tough as nails but she has some vulnerabilities that only Callum sees. Callum is fun and charming and he never takes himself too seriously. Which provides a great balance between these two here. If you are looking for a short but endearing romance grab this one....it is simply a gem!!

Great combination of sweet and sexy with a bit of suspense thrown in. The story is fast paced and entertaining, the characters are likable, and the dialogue is witty. I've enjoyed each book in this series, but I think Callum may be my favorite hero so far. He's funny and self-assured enough to be himself without being arrogant, and as it turns out, he's exactly what the hard-nosed Judge needs in her life. He and Trinity have good chemistry and while the suspense element is secondary to the attraction between them, it does make for an interesting turn of events. I'll be anxiously awaiting the next in this engaging series.

I have loved all the books in this series.. I cant wait for the next. This was a really fast read for me. Trinity is one of the youngest female judges in the country.. also know as (behind her back of course) Medusa.. because her stony expressions and unyielding reputation, and her glair is that intense.. Callum is carefree and sexy to boot.. so when he gets hired as a clerk for Judge Trinity Williams.. what could go wrong...??
This book Is full of action and suspense with lots of hotness..

I cant wait for the next in the series.. Thanks again for the opportunity to read this.

I absolutely adore Chantal Fernando's writing style. She has a way with words and a way with telling a story that is crazily unique. I keep coming back for more. I'm officially an addict.

Approaching The Bench is the third novel in the Conflict of Interest series. This is Judge Trinity Williams and Callum Hopkins story.

When I first heard Callum and Trinity were getting the next book I thought, oh lord here we go! Trinity Williams has been nicknamed Medusa. She's a tough bird and being the youngest Judge she has to be tough, its a job requirement. After Trinity and Callum end up being the victims of a failed abduction, the police come to a conclusion that the two must go in hiding.

I really enjoyed Callum and Trinity's story. I loved Callum's ability to slowly thaw through the icy exterior Trinity used as a shield. I also loved that this novel had a strong suspense vibe, it's a case of who is after the judge and why.

The only downside, as is with all of the shorter novella types, I was left wanting more. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to Callum......

Overall, I am loving the Conflict of Interest series. I love the characters and the issues they are confronted with. I highly recommend this series to everyone that loves suspense and romance!

Pros for Approaching the Bench: Trinity is brilliant and has worked hard. Love a strong, intelligent heroine. Callum is so light hearted and playful, it was a perfect balance for 'Medusa'. Loved that they had a cobbled together family-family is who you chose! I liked that while she had her reservations about getting involved with Callum at first, she is willing to say "fuck it" to every one and not miss out on a relationship with a man she loves and lover her back.

Cons for Approaching the Bench : its a novella, and Callum is introduced in previous books, but I would have liked to have a bit more character development for Trinity. The plot is a bit of a stretch. Honestly, it didn't bother me that much-I'm cool with a bit of disbelief-but I know some people will be all like "Oh my gosh that would never happen".

I have enjoyed the previous books in the series, and loved getting more of the carefree Callum. Approaching the Bench is great if you want a strong, powerful female and a less serious, yet still alpha man!

POV: dual 1st
Tears: no
Trope: office romance, boss/employee
Triggers: none

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Chantal Fernando yet again brings an intense story together and has you wanting more. Callum’s charm and good nature will get you from page one and you will be cheering him on and hope that he can get past Trinity’s walls. Trinity and Callum’s chemistry is off the charts. Chantal Fernando Conflict of Interest series keeps getting interesting and will yet again have you wanting the next one!

Callum is starting his new job as Judge Trinity’s clerk and he is in for an interesting assignment. He isn’t expecting someone so young and beautiful as his new boss but he can’t help but be drawn to her. Now if he can just get her to look past his age and the fact that they work together and see him.

Trinity can’t help but be attracted to Callum but he works for her and is 6 years younger than her. But when their lives are put in jeopardy, they will be forced to confront their feelings head on.

Will they give each other a chance? Or has Trinity been burned too many times to take a chance on happiness?

5 stars on the run in APPROACHING THE BENCH!

Callum Hopkins has secured a job as a law clerk for Judge Trinity Williams, and he couldn't be happier. His life plan involves being in a courtroom in some capacity, so clerking for Judge Williams is ideal. Not ideal is his insane attraction to the cold, calculating and intimidating woman underneath the robe. Trinity is beyond frustrated by her lust for her new clerk. He's too sweet, too familiar, too caring and she doesn't know how to deal with him. When someone decides to come after Trinity, the two go into hiding, learning just how mutual their attraction to one another is.

I'm obsessed with the Conflict of Interest series by Ms. Fernando, and I adored APPROACHING THE BENCH! I've never read a plot like this, especially with an older female judge and her younger employee having the hots for each other. These two made a fantastic team, where Trinity was weak (cooking), Callum was strong. He respected her authority at work and made her scream at night. Even the element of danger was well written and intriguing. My only complaint was that this was SO SHORT! I could've used another 100 pages of APPROACHING THE BENCH, and I can't wait for the 4th book in the series, Leading the Witness!

Bottom Line: No OM/OW or sharing; some condom use; no BDSM/kink; no sexual assault; mild violence, no murder.

More, I wanted more. The picture on the front does not do Trinity justice. In the book she is a hard ass Judge. But the woman on the cover looks sweet and gentle. So I guess it's true, you can't judge a book by it's cover.

Approaching the Bench is the third instalment in Chantal Fernando’s delectable Conflict of Interest series and is another sensual, sexy and thrilling contemporary romance!

Trinity Williams is the youngest female judge in the country, known for her stony nature and unyielding attitude. Dubbed “Medusa” by those who know her, Trinity believes laughter and carefree attitudes have no place in the courtroom, instead choosing to let her severe sentences and take-no-prisoner philosophy speak for itself. Of course her new law clerk would think just the opposite….Callum Hopkins has worked hard to get where he is, raising his younger brother while putting himself through law school which is one of the reasons he always looks on the brighter side of life. When he starts his new job working under Judge Williams, Callum finds himself automatically wanting to shake up his hot new boss and is determined to discover what’s under her perfectly composed shell. When a kidnapping attempt is made on Trinity and Callum steps in and saves her, both Trinity and Callum find themselves being carted away by the authorities in hiding until the culprit can be apprehended. Alone together under abnormal circumstances, Trinity and Callum can’t help but give into the attraction that simmers between them, but when all is said and done…will they be able to continue their relationship with so many differences of opinion and position?

Chantal Fernando releases another brilliant story out into the world with Approaching the Bench. Introducing readers to two likable main characters whose dual POV’s we get to follow throughout the story, Approaching the Bench was a quick, addictive story that had chemistry, flair and wonderful dialogue. My only concern with the story was it was too short—more a novella than a full length novel although Fernando manages to pack a lot into the tale. I think I would have just loved the chance to explore Trinity and Callum more—they were that great to follow.

This novel really sped by for me. I enjoyed seeing things progress through both Trinity and Callum’s POV’s as they have such different ways of thinking and I was always keen to see what the other party was thinking and experiencing while in the mind of the other. I really loved them both and liked the dynamic they shared. Chantal Fernando throws an age gap into the story and I have to say I appreciated the idea of an older woman and younger man even though it wasn’t that much of a gap. Made for something different.

Overall Approaching the Bench was a great read and I very much loved being a part of this series again. Chantal Fernando has never failed me yet and I can’t wait until the next novel releases in this series and I have the opportunity to follow Hunter’s story!

Yes... yes... yes! A thousand yeses! I really enjoyed this book! I’m not going to lie... I was scared to dive right into this book. I just didn’t want a repeat of Seducing The Defendant. The Wind Dragon’s totally took over that book! I mean... don’t get me wrong! I love the WD’s! But I was looking forward to a fresh new series! There was only one mention of a character from the WD series. I’ll get to that at the end of my review.

Overall this book was pretty spot on for me!
It really brought me back to the beginning of this series in Breaching The Contract! I devoured that book! And I totally devoured this book!

Callus was totally book boyfriend worthy! He was what Trinity needed in her life! She was so cold to everyone. She felt she had to be that way to prove that she could do her job as a judge.

I crave independence, and I’m not willing to give mine up for a man.

Callus was a go with the flow kinda guy. He took everything and just went with it. He slowly started to break down Trinity walls. Trying to make her laugh. Play by her rules by asking her a question a day.

We’re opposites. You’re uptight, and I’m more laid-back.

When a attempted kidnap happened. Callum and Trinity get thrown in a situation that forces them rely on each other and for Trinity to let her guard down and let some in fully. Callum takes this opportunity to really get to know Trinity. And just lays all his cards on the table with her.

Don’t want to tame you. Just want you to let me in,

I loved the way this book played out. I loved how Trinity opened herself and her heart. Didn’t play games with Callum. And I loved how Callum went all in with Trinity. The ending was perfect! I can’t wait for Hunters story! He’s the one I’m most looking forward to! I wanted his story right after Breaching The Contract! So yes! I’m excited to read his story!

So on a side note....
I’m not an author. I don’t know how hard it is to start a new series from scratch. To totally leave your old series completely must be hard. Characters from other series must pop in their heads all the time.
I thought we were over the little crossover games in the last book. And I thought we were in the clear in this book until the 91% mark.
I mean... if you haven’t read any Wind Dragons books this name will mean nothing to you. But... if you have then you totally know who his person is. I just don’t get why characters are coming through in this series. When Faye Black’s name was dropped. I just rolled my eyes. I mean why. The book was holding it’s own. Why in some way try to bring a little and I do mean a little WD in the mix.
Like I said above... I love the Wind Dragons MC series! I can’t wait for more books in that series to come out. I just don’t see the need for this series and that series to do any crossover (in this case... name drop.)
And that’s just my personal opinion.

Yes... yes...

APPROACHING THE BENCH is an entertaining addition to the Conflict of Interest series, as a spirited couple have lively conversations and experience a multitude of emotions. The story is filled with lots of delightful disagreements amongst the main characters, and I could not keep from laughing on a number of occasions. Chantal Fernando interweaves the daily routines of getting ready for cases with life outside the courtroom, and the result is constantly engaging situations.

Upon being appointed to preside over state court cases, Trinity Williams wanted to prove she was capable even though still rather young. After five years have passed, she thinks her point has been made, but she always tries to come across as strict to make certain no one questions her competency. When a new clerk comes to work with her, Trinity wonders if she and Callum Hopkins will actually get along well because his attitude is so dissimilar from her own.

To be a lawyer one day is the goal of Callum, and working for the respected judge will help him to gain knowledge and hopefully receive a favorable reference later. Though he tries to be considerate when around Trinity, she does not plan on letting them get too friendly. Yet when a threat toward the judge and clerk leads to them being put in protective custody, the line between staying professional and exploring personal desires grows very thin.

Since I met Callum in the previous books of the series, I knew he was an interesting man and would made a wonderful main character. I was definitely eager to read his book, and I learned much about his private life. His sunny disposition is infectious, and I loved how he would always look for the positive side of whatever was happening, though his background could have made him a bitter person. His interactions with others is often comical, as Callum is never at a loss for words because of his sharp wit. For someone who could have remained a secondary character, he shines in his own story.

When Callum goes to work for Trinity, her reputation does not cause him to act any differently around her than he normally would behave, and this triggered many attention-grabbing scenes. Although she plans to not let herself be affected by his charm, resisting becoming harder and harder. I so enjoyed seeing the always serious Trinity turn into someone who is more lighthearted, and her reactions were not what I expected at times. After unexpected danger threatens them both, their lives really become entangled. Chantal Fernando made the suspense believable, and I was nervous whenever outcomes looked uncertain. There are even a few surprises in the story to make a particular scene more enthralling. APPROACHING THE BENCH has an appealing couple who express genuine feelings, and plenty of humor to amuse.

I voluntarily reviewed the book from the publisher via NetGalley, and all comments are my honest opinion.

Approaching the Bench is the third book in the terrific Conflict of Interest series by bestselling author Chantal Fernando. A highly entertaining, steamy, office romance with a touch of suspense that you won't want to miss! With great characters, witty banter, angst, sizzling hot sexual encounters, and intense situations, this story will pull you in right from the start, and you won't want to put it down until the very end. A fantastic story, and a great addition to this outstanding series.

Callum Hopkins was introduced in the previous books, and I really liked him. Learning a bit more about him in this story only made me love him even more. Trinity Williams is the youngest judge in the country, and being female as well only makes her have to work that much harder to gain respect, and prove that she deserves her position. She's known for being fair but tough with her decisions in the courtroom, but because she refuses to allow any type of personal relationships or even conversations while at work, she's been named "Medusa" by others. She comes across as a cold and unfeeling person, but it's part of the mask she feels like she has to wear in order to be able to focus on her position.

When Callum begins working for her, she's not sure how to handle the always upbeat, happy, and considerate man that he is, especially since she can't get past her attraction towards him. Callum has been intrigued by his new boss since the first time he met her, and is determined to crack the mask that she firmly wears while at work. When someone tries to kidnap her in the courthouse parking lot, his intervention is the only thing that saved her. Now that they're both in danger, they're going to have to stick together until the bad guys can be caught.

Will Trinity let down the enormous walls that she keeps in place, and finally let Callum see the real woman beneath the mask she wears as a protective cover? Can Callum convince her that just because she's a few years older than him that they still belong together, even after they get back to their regular lives? Will Callum be able to keep her safe until they figure out who's behind it all? Will they get the HEA that they both deserve? You'll have to read this to find out, but you won't be disappointed!

I would recommend this, series, and terrific author.

When I first read the synopsis of this book I was intrigued. Trinity is a woman that is in a position of power. She doesn’t apologize about who or what she is. Being the youngest judge in her field is an accomplishment. However she has built such a wall around her it’s hard for anyone to see the real Trinity. Enter Callum who is the complete opposite. He is talkative, outgoing and basically an open book.

Even though he is quite younger than Trinity that doesn’t stop him from going after what he wants. One thing that kind of irked me about Trinity is that she was always on the defense. Whenever Callum tried to build a report between the two she immediately goes on the attack about being a woman in a male dominated field. A part of me wanted to tell her to calm down. I will say Callum was a bit forward to be working for her. I kinda liked that he didn’t allow her to run him.

Although I know this book is fiction you really have to suspend your belief in reality for a second. So she gets death threats through the mail from time to time. But doesn’t keep any of the evidence? What if the threats turn out to be serious now you have no evidence and nowhere to start? Oh but wait she knew exactly who it was after some thought. It could have been a little more suspense surrounding that. Both of the characters seemed very young in nature. I would have liked to see more of the legal aspect shown in this book.

I did like the relationship with Callum and Justin. But this book was missing something for me. I didn’t feel a deep attraction between the two characters most of it was on the surface. The interactions between the two felt like a running list of day to day activities. For example when they finally get alone time together it was like what will they do on the farm? When something finally did happen it was short lived. I understand this was a short story but it could have been more developed. I like the concept of this series but most of the women characters seem the same, they love rap ( surprisingly); are curvy and fall for the alpha male. I think Trinity could have been a great character with more development. Although this story wasn’t my favorite in the series. Readers check out the series for yourselves.

This is just my opinion not the gospel
