500-mile road trip! Mission? Get over the guy you kinda-sorta hooked up with. Problem? He's your new road-trip companion.

Bribed by her bestie to go on a stupid soul-searching road trip to get over The Turd, Jane is sooo not into spending four days visiting tacky Florida stops and, ugh, journaling it. A librarian hiding behind the stereotype, she'd rather veg and read, thank you very much.

What could make it worse? Oh yeah. A hunky, charming playboy, begging for a ride. You might wonder why that would be worse, because, c'mon--hot guy? Except this hot guy is The Turd, the player this whole trip is meant to help her forget.

RISKING IT is a steamy, standalone romantic comedy from RITA Winning and USA Today bestselling author Angela Quarles with a happy-ever-after and no cheating or cliffhangers, with some bonus stops at wacky Florida tourist traps. Warning: there's a scene where guys get all hot and sweaty playing the ancient Irish sport of hurling, just sayin'.

4.5 - "You're a talker, aren't you..?" Stars!

Risking It is the second book in Angela Quarles Stolen Moments series, I haven’t read its predecessor, and it can absolutely be read as a standalone.

And what a treat my first read by this author was, I read Risking It in one sitting, which wasn’t a massive struggle because it was a short read, but it grabbed me from the beginning and I just couldn’t put Jane and Aiden’s book down.

This is a fun interlude with a player. Nothing more…

Road-Trip, that trope in itself is usually a pre-cursor to a good story-line, but Jane and Aiden have past form, in that they spent one night together in the week previous, but rather than getting their naked on, they spent the night watching films and cuddling up. Something, which although not his usual night time endeavour with a woman, leaves Aiden thinking that maybe there is life outside of casual hook-ups. Only problem being Jane pretty much cuts him off at the nuts the following morning and he is none the wiser as to why.

I’m not the outgoing va-va-voom type.

A comedy of errors and mishaps, eventually leads this couple to sharing a car on a road trip to Atlanta, and stopping at some pretty weird and wonderful sights on the way, as they travel you learn more about the both of them (great dual POV), and also Jane’s reasons why for not giving Aiden the time of day the morning after their film fest.

He’s so gorgeous but also so vulnerable, and I don’t know what to do with that…

This point for me was the only weak part of the story to be honest, considering Jane is a grown woman and not an inexperienced college student, but by the time it came to light I was so invested in seeing how things turned out between them I let it slide, it didn’t hurt that Aiden was an absolute sweetheart either!

I’m going to have a hard time letting him go. But I have to… This is just a fling.

I cannot wait for more from this series, I will definitely be looking to read the first book Earning It at some point, as well. This is an author I will certainly be looking to read a lot more from in the future.

Peeps this story was one truly refreshing read. I laughed quite a lot with both characters during their somewhat odd journey to Atlanta. Both characters were interesting personalities. Jane - the grey mouse - librarian who always has got her nose stuck in the books and Aiden - the hot player slowly charming into your panties. Their attraction is feelable through the pages of the whole book. Both of them are totally different but opposites attract each other right? The problem? She doesn't do players and he is not relationship material.
I enjoyed the whole story but especially this author's way with words.

An eclectic road trip with all the feels…

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book!

I enjoyed the first book and was looking forward to this, the second in the series. While I expected another well-written and good story, I was blown away by how much it struck a chord with me. I’m normally not a huge fan of misunderstandings as the basis for a plot but this story was so real and the characters so heartwarming and fun that I am thankful I didn’t let that bias prevent me from devouring one of the best titles I've read this year! It’s good I wasn’t the only one making incorrect assumptions…

“I’m a book nerd. He’s a jock who owns a bar…”

Not that Jane isn’t a book nerd – she is. And Aiden does own a bar. What is incorrect, however, is how each of them remembers their one and only encounter. They both have it right – and wrong – and have the unexpected opportunity to find out what really happened – and what could happen. Their road trip is a hoot and a half with stops that are eccentric and eclectic, the perfect backdrops for soul-searching and the discovery that their “wicked chemistry” was exactly how they both remembered it…

“…when he stepped within my space and started talking, everything inside me perked up. And tingled.”

Aiden is Sir Galahad disguised as a man-whore while Jane is a temptress hidden beneath librarian layers. With nothing but time they have the opportunity to find out what each other is really all about and what a real, honest, relationship could be…

Fun and heartwarming, I loved this story from start to finish. I wish it was longer. Maybe we could have a story about the honeymoon? Perhaps another road trip? Here’s hoping!

Made me laugh out loud:
“Fucking love peddler.”

I only read a select handful of Romance authors - authors who write heroes who respect women (and practice it in their courting of the heroine) and heroines who know their own minds and have their own distinct personalities, lives, and dreams.

Bonus points if:

1. I can really relate to the heroine of the story because it means I'm totally immersed and can empathise with how she feels.

2. The relationship depicted is a healthy one with two people who talk to each other and have grown-up attitudes (yes, including emotional baggage).

Angela Quarles has consistently nailed all this in ALL her books (be they historical or contemporary romances) and more.

For me, RISKING IT is her Contemporary that resonates the most with me to date because she's achieved something unexpected - taking a character (Jane) who could've been a Sexy Librarian stereotype and portraying her as a bona fide book geek and introvert whom many geeky/introverted women (like myself) who've been burned one too many times by men who don't appreciate us can relate to.

And Aiden (Jane's love interest) may have started out as a stereotypical player and sports buff but under Quarles' magic writer's wand, he becomes a character who is prime Book Boyfriend material because he shows how consent and emotional courage in a man can be sexy as hell.

I'm really looking forward the next instalment in Quarles' STOLEN MOMENTS series - if she keeps up the good work, she might well become my #1 Romance author.

Jane is an introvert in the truest sense of the word. Being around people - even her best friend - tires her out, and her idea of the perfect vacation is spending the day in bed reading. So when her best friend challenges her to a crazy roadside attraction road trip to get over a one-night stand, she agrees reluctantly, expecting that she’ll hurry through her daily itinerary and then spend the rest of the day reading in her hotel room. Until that one night stand misses his flight and ends up hitching a ride with her...

I loved Jane and Aiden together. I especially liked how Aiden respected Jane's introversion. I’ve read too many books where introverted characters are, basically, forced to interact as if they are extroverted people, which somehow magically “fixes” them. While this may hold true for some people, the thought of that gives this introverted person hives! As Aiden says,

“I’m tempted to coax her, but I have a hunch she needs to break through on her own, like those nature documentaries that show hatching babies and how they have to push through the shell on their own to gain the necessary strength to survive outside it.”

Aiden and Jane both have had past relationship issues that color their initial interactions, but as they check off their road trip attractions (Giant Potty Chair! Weird dinosaur statues!), their own attraction begins to break through. And, hoo boy, it’s hot!

My biggest complaint is that it's short - 254 pages according to my e-reader. This is the second book in the series, but it worked fine as a stand-alone for me.

Overall - this is a fun, sexy, quick read. I’ll definitely be looking up more books by this author!

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

As the second book in the Stolen Moments series, I did not expect this book to live up to the standards of the first one. But it was just as real, sexy and fun as the original!

This book was even more realistic, at least to me, in that the female protagonist is a librarian and all-around book nerd. The male protagonist is a bar owner, as well as a member of the hurling team that we originally met in the first book of the series, Earning It (featuring Luke & Pepper). In fact, the start of Jane and Aiden’s adventure is mentioned there, which makes it all the more fun to see their story develop.

The characters were very down-to-earth and believable... The sex scenes were definitely spicy, without being too extreme... and their internal dialogues were priceless.

Again, the story is told in dual viewpoint, alternating between Jane & Aiden. I’m not a huge fan of this perspective, but it worked out well here...

Although the backdrop of this tale and the series in general is the interactions of members of a hurling team, there were not excessive sections devoted to actual game play of the sport...

This is absolutely a book that I recommend! And I can’t wait to read additional volumes in the series! It was quite fun to see other characters from the prior book make appearances in this story, and I look forward to seeing these characters again in future tomes.

I received a free eBook version of this title from Foreword PR & Marketing as part of their release day blitz, and have willingly provided an honest review.

What starts as a mix-message- misunderstood one night stand leads Jane's quirky friend to outline a road trip for Jane which becomes high jacked by said misunderstood one night stand named Aiden. Jane and Aiden had a cute chemistry that they hid well as they quietly shared similar interests. Aiden can't exactly come out and say how he truly feels, thinks or his vast knowledge of the same classics that librarian Jane love without losing his man card- he thinks. Their road trip was very interesting as the sites they came across not only get the two of them completely entranced with their surroundings but also captured my interest to possibly visit this sites as well.

Aiden sees something with Jane if only he can convince her he is more than a playboy. Jane wants to enjoy a few hours of passion with a playboy but just can't separate her emotions for her sex drive. These two working it out is sexy and fun. Great read.

After reading Angela Quarles book Earning It, I knew I would want to continue reading this series. Earning It continues to tell the story of another player on the FL Hurling team. Aiden, a known man-whore meets Jane, a librarian at an after game party. Both feel an attraction but each acts outside their comfort zone. Jane decides to go for a one night stand and Aiden decides hold off. This misunderstanding causes some hurt feelings on both side.
When the 2 are thrown together on a road trip that takes them throughout some bizarre tourist sites in FL on their way to Atlanta, the tension and chemistry is obvious. Ms Quarles does her best writing when she is showing both the anticipation of attraction and the hesitation due to past bad experiences.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the Happily Ever After was well worth the roadtrip to get there. I received an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.

4/5

Risking It was a perfect mix of humor, steam, and introspection. Both Jane and Aiden have been hurt in the past and are scarily attracted to each other. But Jane ghosted Aiden and he wants to know why. Both want to get over the other before anything even started. I love Angela Quarles' use of the road trip as a journey, both literally and metaphorically. The quirky sites they visit throughout the trip are hilarious. The lessons learned are subtle and poignant. Overall a very well written story that was fun to read. If you like quirky, engaging stories that burn up your kindle then Risking It is for you. I cannot wait to see more of Aiden and Jane in future Stolen Moments books.

I received this book for free from the author. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This story was delightfully sexy, quirky, and so much fun! It’s the second book in the Stolen Moments series but it can totally be read as a standalone.

In short, Aiden and Jane had a fun night together, but strange and great thing, they only netflix’ed and chill, literally, and to them it was enough to know there could be more between them. However and apparently because no one taught them how to communicate, and because you know, pride and prejudice before getting to know people, they parted ways and ended up not talking after that one night.

I thought the way those two went from strangers to friends to lovers was managed in a super fun and brilliant way. They obviously liked each other physically but they knew that jumping into the “sex” wagon at the first chance was going to lead nowhere but heartache. Jane had serious self-doubt issues and Aiden had a history of relationships ending badly. Their friendship was handled in an incredibly gratifying way and at the perfect pace and their playfulness made them more relatable.
I had some problems with the way Jane’s generalized bookworms solely based on her own lack of confidence however I was ruined for life with the way Aiden opened up to her and the way he behaved during the road trip and afterwards. I think he became one of my favorite BBF ever! Overall this was a great love story and I’m looking forward for more books by this author.

** I was gifted a copy of this book and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.**

It is not often that I find a book or an author from one of my freebies that I like well enough that I’m encouraged to purchase more from the author. Too frequently, the free offerings are too short or too awful or too cliche, and don’t inspire any sense of curiosity or loyalty. Certainly, they don’t encourage me to spend money on other works.

I am happy to say that this is not the case with Angela Quarles.

This is the 2nd book I’ve read of hers, and her stories are funny, irreverent, and blisteringly hot. Hell, they’ve even encouraged me to step outside of my American football and international football comfort zone, and look into hurling. I’ve seen Gaelic football on tele, but never hurling, but I’ll be looking for it now.

I can’t wait to see what she does to Claire & Conor. I also can’t wait to see what she does with time-travel...

WOW! I love a great romantic comedy, and this fabulous book certainly fit that category!
Jane has a “thing” for Aiden, and has for a while. Then that night happened, the night they were going to finally…. they fell asleep watching TV. Jane realizes, Aiden is never going to feel for her, the way she feels for him. Her friend forces her to take a road trip, visiting places that will make her get over Aiden. Starting at his bar, where she will burn……. Stop, no spoilers. But, how is she supposed to get over Aiden, when he sweet talks her into giving him a ride.
I LOVED watching Jane and Aiden fall for each other. Stop, by stop during their journey, they both realize that what they thought about what happened that night, may not be what actually happened.
Risking It, is the second book in Ms. Quarles Stolen Moments series. Each book can be read as a stand-a-lone.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It kept me hooked until the very last word. Thank heavens for vacations, because I could not put it down.
I was gifted with a copy of this wonderful book by the publisher, via NetGalley for my honest review. In my opinion, if you like a good rom/com, this book is definitely for you.
Thank you for reading my review.

DNF at 42%
I just can't get into this book. Neither the storyline, nor the characters are holding my attention. It all feels so boring. Maybe I'm just in the wrong mood for it at the moment. So I'm shelving this as DNF and maybe I'll come back to it some other time with (hopefully) better luck.

Wow!! Angela Quarles Did it Again in this Book RISKING IT!! Aiden and Jane Story is very a unconventional way of getting to know each other after one night leaving a After Party. It's Entertaining and has you wanting to know what is going to happen between a Sexy Playboy Player & a Insecure "Stays-her-Shell" Librarian. It takes Jane's Best Friend Claire to plan her a car trip from Sarasota, FL to Atlanta, GA where the players have a Championship Game to play. It's a 5 day trip to get Jane out of her Funk from One Night with Aiden "the Turd" to Rediscover herself and Not to Mention with stops to Cheesy Tourist Sopts Along the Way! But as she is about to start her Journey, there is a Huge Bump that Gets in her Way BEFORE she even hits the Road- AIDEN!
Missing his Flight to Atlanta, Aiden had to find other means to get there on Friday since it is Tuesday. He bumps into Jane at the gas station after his friends car dies, propositions her about him coming along in her road trip. They finally agree after some debating on both of their minds and set off to the first destination. During this 5 day trip, they find themselves very attracted to each other but thinking only "friend" mode & MAYBE a Fling!
This Book has All the feels of uncertainty of each other, humor of two people comfortable with each other and the sexual Chemistry is off the Charts HOT!! I Loved RISKING IT (#2) just like Angela's EARNING IT (#1) from the Stolen Moments series but Can be Read as Standalones. Aiden will have you Melting your Panties and his Charming Ways! Jane is like us women with Ex-Boyfriends embedding ideas that WE ARE AT FAULT and enabling our self-confidence. Aiden and Jane certainly give you a Rollercoaster Ride of Raw Emotions that leave you wanting to hit the people that hurt them and HOT & BOTHERED!!! A MUST READ BOOK!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AIDEN
Smelling her sweet scent, hearing the little noises she made, like humming the first lines of each song and stopping as it cycled through her Playlist, was making me More aware of her.
THIS Trip is supposed to cure me.
But seeing this? Yeah, she's a serious woman, a Reader, an intellectual. She'd want to be with a serious guy who could get into this kind of stuff with her, share philosophical insights on life and all that crap.
We're not right for each other, chemistry notwithstanding. Even if I was looking for a relationship. Which I'm NOT.
Luke said, "Stop being a man-whore," but that's My Comfort Zone. I'm Not cut out for Relationships.
JANE
I mentally slap myself. I'm going about this all wrong. He's not interested. Then so what? Why bother weighing what I say and do in order to "entice" him or some such nonsense. Or Worry that I'm as much of a turn- off as he already thinks I am. We're Stuck with Each Other for several days, and it'll become more awkward if we let it.
A weight lifts from my shoulders.
Risking It is a sweet, sexy, quirky road trip!
Jane has been tasked by her over protective best friend to take a road trip to cleanse her of the man who hurt her (The Turd), when he, get this, didn't make a move during the night they spent together. You see, Jane is a sweet, dorky librarian with lots of insecurities, so when she spent a fun night with a charming playboy, she naturally expected him to make a move, and for once in her safe, boring life, she was planning on doing something out of her comfort zone, and would have thrown herself into what she was expecting to be a hot one night stand. Alas, said charming playboy, was instead, a charming gentleman, and Jane ghosted him the next morning.
Aiden has spent the weeks since Jane's disappearing act with her on his mind. So when she appears at his bar, suspiciously close to a little fire near his dumpsters, he can't help but be excited to see the woman who's been on his mind for so long. And when she happens along when his borrowed car dies, she's his reluctant angel, and brings him along with her on his roundabout road trip to Atlanta, where his team is playing their hurling match.
Along the way, they visit some funny, strange sights (a giant potty chair, a castle, etc.), and they open up to each other and find that their views of their one night together are vastly different. Their natural chemistry is what propels this story along at a nice pace, and their sex scenes were hot and sweet. I liked Risking It just as much, if not more, than Earning It, because Aiden and Jane are so adorably perfect together. His playboy rep was certainly earned in the past, but his POV reveals what a sweet guy he really is. And Jane, wow, she was definitely the stereotypical introvert, but also much, much more. Two more sweeter people and couldn't be more perfect for each other. I'm hoping there's more to come from this series, because so far it's sweet, funny and sexy.
I received an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review.
My Review:
ROAD TRIP...gah, I do love this trope (are there even enough of them to be considered a trope? If not, we need to remedy that, because books like this are awesome...think When Harry Met Sally...)
So, anyway...this story. Jane and Aiden had a single night together that affected them both equally but for different reasons. As a result, they are both trying to get over the other one (there's a lot of assumptions and miscommunications from that night that have to be sorted). But somehow in a crazy set of circumstances, they end up on a road trip together...and discover that they really do like one another. That chemistry that first night didn't lie.
I really, really enjoyed this one. Those first few scenes in the book were epically funny and definitely set the feel for an enjoyable book. Both of these characters have deep emotional scars when it comes to relationships that aren't obvious when they first show up on the page. So it was fun to get to see those come to light and how they each worked through them.
Personally, I adored Aiden...he so deserves an HEA and totally made the book, but I also really loved Jane. As a librarian who'd rather read for her vacation than do stuff, I could definitely relate to her.
It was just a fun, entertaining book. I definitely recommend it. I'm thoroughly enjoying this series.
Risking It, A Romantic Comedy, Angela Quarles
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre:  Romance
I liked the sound of this but...though it wasn't a bad read there wasn't that magic spark that keeps me glued to the story.
Its well paced, original story-line but i just didn't feel the magic, didn't feel the sizzle between the characters, and there wasn't have the tension I need in a romance, the conflict, the angst and agony.
Even when they weren't getting along it was all so muted, and the whole reasons of misunderstanding felt OK at first, but got put forward so many times ( or so it seemed), that I wanted to say to them both Get over yourselves.
It did seem on both sides to be a real storm in a teacup theme, making so much out of what was a simple misunderstanding.
There are some steamy encounters between the two, and the premise of the road trip was fun and brought a few interesting moments, but for me its a read and forget book.
As ever though this is just my opinion, what I want in a story doesn't reflect on what you want, so read a few more reviews and make up your own mind.
If you share a taste in reading with me you may feel the same, but if not this could be your perfect read.
Stars: Three, an OK read but lacked drama and feeling for me.
Received and ARC for my fair review for netgalley. This was a cute story, I did not know that it was a second part of a series, not that I anything in story indicated that this was the second, however as I received the ARC it indicated second in series. I plan on reading the first book, because I did enjoy this Author. So we meet Jane, who is a shy librarian, and unfortunately had met Aiden in a party and he is opposite to her, he is outgoing and a man-whore. Jane was attracted to Aiden and thought they were getting along pretty well, but then when he did not try to initiate sex, felt that she lacked something due to past experiences and was mortified after finding out he was such a player. It is time to forget about him once and for all, and on the insistence from her bestie, goes on a road-trip, but things really got derailed. Aiden was confused as to why Jane had given him the cold shoulder and he was going to forget about her, but when he misses his plan, guess who he ends up with. I enjoyed that they got to know each other and fix the misconceptions.. Can't wait til the next one, it has to be Claire's...
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book
This is my first time reading a book by Angela Quartes and OMG it was
wonderful, I LOVED Aiden and Jane's story. What starts out with a night
of wonderful chemistry and connection turns into a huge misunderstanding.
Both Jane and Aiden are confused, Aiden cannot forget her, He cant sleep
he cant hookup with another woman, He cannot get this girl out of his head for
weeks now. And all they did was sleep together, Literately.
Jane is an introvert, she works at a library and would rather spend time with books
then people, she finally gives in and goes out with her BFF and goes home with
a HUNK of a man. Aiden, hoping for a wild night of sex (something she does not do)
all they do is watch movies together then fall asleep on the sofa. Why didnt this man
want her. It really messes with her self esteem, although she does not have much left
because of her ex.
I have to say that the sex scenes in this book were some of the best I have read in a while
Yes they were HOT HOT HOT but the emotions and banter between Aiden and Jane
truly made it feel "real" This book was just wonderful and I would HIGHLY recommend it
Risking It by Angela Quarles is book Two in the "Stolen Moments" series. This is the story of Jane and Aiden. I have read the previous book but this is easily a standalone book if you choose to do so. Jane is the bookish nerd type while Aiden is the jock type who doesn't commit. When Jane set to head to Atlanta to clear her mind of Aiden fate interrupts it seems to have Aiden in need of a ride. So Jane has to accept him as a passenger where they start to learn more about the other person and have some funny times along the way.
This was a quick read that was so enjoyable...loved seeing these two come together.
What a fun, sweet and steamy read! This author was new to me when I read the first book in this series and I was pleasantly surprised with the writing, the storyline, the development of the characters and how much I absolutely loved it! Well, this second book in this series is just as good if not better! The supporting characters are well written which adds to the overall enjoyment of the storyline. Aiden and Jane were very easy to relate to -- they're the kind of characters that you want as friends in your life. And I have to say I'm finding the sport of hurling really interesting! And the places they visited during their road trip -- so unique! Loved this book-can't wait for Conor's! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
This story is written in dual POV, which I like because it gives the thoughts and feelings of both the main characters to the reader. There are twists and turns that are unsuspected and emotional ups and downs. Hot chemistry and steaming scenes. The story has suspence, lust, love and a emotional roller coaster.
Jane and Aiden are the main characters in this story. They are the opposite of each other. They are well described and develops nicely. The story is captivating and flows nicely of the pages.
I like the mix of emotions, laughs, sighs and hot scenes this story has. It makes it a great read and fun to follow their journey to Atlanta.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
If you’re looking for a weekend get away inside of a book, look no further. Risking It was enchanting and had me laughing out loud to the point my family shhh’d me! Aiden and Jane are both genuine, fallible, and utterly lovable. The intimacy was so genuinely deep and perfectly steamy. Rarely do you come across a quick romance read with deep well rounded characters. It was refreshing. “She waits in her quiet space, and I hope to God I can find the right words so I can be in that space alongside her. Because that’s where I want to be more than anyplace else in the world.” so hot!!! This book will leave you wondering what else has Quarles written??
Risking It is Angela Quarles second book in the Stolen Moments series featuring yet another one of her hurling players. Aiden and Jane couldn’t be more wrong for each other. Aiden, a man who loves to hit it hard both on and off the field is slightly more daring than Jane, a fellow book nerd whose set on dating dry spell. Although fate intervenes with these two as it takes me on a road trip of self discovery. Quarles pairs the funny with the steamy making this novel completely irresistible! If you are ready to get lost in a new book, then one click this opposites attract romance!
I liked it more than the first book in the series because I really loved Aiden and Janes bonding through their roadtrip. Normally I'm not a huge fan of roadtrip stories but this one was great. Only the ending wasn't my favorite, again! They never shared 'I love yous' and it ended with Jane thinking something along the line of 'I think I'm in love'. It was just too HFN for me, I like my endings with more closure. I think they are meant to be but still, I wanted more.
I wasn't that impressed by this story. I didn't agree with Claire's interference in Jane's love life, nor did I agree with Jane's actions in just disappearing on Aiden. I liked how much of a gentleman he was, as well as how much of a good sport he was about the dumpster incident. The story was redeemed by the "falling in love journey" that we got to watch them take. Hopefully, this was just a "weak link" story in the series.
“Risking It’ is the sequel to “Earning It” and the second installment in the Stolen Moments series by Angela Quarles. So far, the series focuses on two members of an Irish Hurling team based in Sarasota, FL. And, while it could work as a standalone story, I strongly recommend reading them in order since the same people and events are referenced in both works and they go in chronological order. I found the series because I seriously adore Angela Quarles and am always eager to read her latest books. So, imagine my delight when I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review – THANK YOU! I can honestly say I flippin loved it!
This story focuses on Aiden and Jane. They had a one-night stand during the events of “Earning It” and are still feeling the repercussions when this story begins a few weeks later. So much so, that they’re each trying to work the other one out of their systems and move on, but fate has another plan. (Doesn’t it always!?!) They end up taking a road trip through Florida, punctuated by visits to roadside attractions that range from the wacky to the bizarre. All while coming to terms with their attraction. And, oh, how they come to terms.
I particularly enjoyed how they came to terms at the gazebo of confessions. That entire scene was spot on, for me. It really showcases how this story, and really Aiden and Jane themselves, have a joy and humor that were just FUN for the reader. They are constantly playing the good kind of games, making jokes, having word play, and making literary references that I enjoyed more than I probably should. Which, again, means Angela Quarles gets a giant hat tip for her writing style. She has a unique voice that I just adore. Considering the long-novella-esque length, I felt that the reader gets a lot of character development for Aiden and Jane, as well as the secondary characters. We really learned what made them tick, with lots of introspection and thinking about their feelings for the other person. So, the reader was shown by their actions AND told by their introspection what they felt for each other. Meaning that by the end, you are really rooting for them to find their Happily Ever After.
The story also heavily features the sport Irish Hurling and, after watching a few youtube videos, I am a huge fan. It is a mash up of field hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, rugby and pretty much every other contact sport you can think of. This sport, much like Angela Quarles writing style, is guaranteed to take you on a fun adventure. So, go give this series, and this book in particular, a read. You’re going to love it!
I enjoyed this story SO MUCH! After reading the first book in this series, I wasn't so sure about taking a leap into this next one. I'm so happy that I didn't let my initial hesitation stop me from continuing on. This book immediately snagged my attention and kept me riveted for nearly the entire time. Quarles managed to endear me to both the H/h, which can be a difficult feat. I'm very picky when it comes to heroines and Jane was a joy to follow. She was a bit quirky and had some of the funniest scenes/lines. Overall, Risking it was a smart, funny, and sexy story with some light dramatic conflict. I could easily find myself reading this quick story again; it was that much fun.
