Pieter is a dreamer. He doesnt really fit in with the others in his community so he sets out on his own. He finds a bird caught in a trap and frees it, but it is too late and it is dying. It tells him where its egg is and the magic in the bird that will be hatched. A princess is captured by a giant and Pieter goes to save her since no one else will. The Bird of Time helps him and he is successful. A charming tale with great illustrations by Mercer Mayer
