She wasn't swimming in the wine vat, she was dead!
When Angela, the beloved award-winning winemaker at the Moretti Winery, is found floating face down in a wine vat, law enforcement authorities are suspicious about the cause of her death. Was it murder or a tragic accident?
If it’s murder, who did it? Was it her husband, Matteo, the winemaker at a nearby winery, jealous because his wife’s wines always received the top awards and best ratings? Was it his employer, Carlos Romano, the owner of the nearby winery, because his wines always placed second to those made by Angela? Or could it have been Carlos’ niece, Alessandra, who had romantic fantasies about Matteo even though he was married to Angela? Or even Signora Moretti, suspicious there was more to her husband and Angela’s relationship than business. And then there was Caitlin, the ambitious master’s degree student who was an intern at the Moretti Winery and wanted Angela’s job.
Mike Reynolds, an Oregon county sheriff, and his wife, Kelly, decide to take a short vacation to Sonoma, California, where they were meeting their daughter and her husband for some wine tasting. Because of a sick child, they have to return home to Calico Gold, so Kelly and Mike have some extra time on their hands and offer to help the local sheriff determine if Angela’s death was murder or an accident.
From USA TODAY Bestselling Author and seven time Amazon All-Star comes the 13th book in the popular page-turning Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery series. As always plenty of food, and mouth-watering recipes!
This interesting mystery takes us into the wine making industry of California – and some of its dark secrets… Wine maker Angela and Matteo, her husband and colleague, have another argument about her success – she works at the best vineyard in the area, Matteo ‘only’ for a poor rival, which hurts his Italian ego. That same evening, while trying the wine in the shed as always, someone pushes her into the vat… At the same time, our old friends Kelly and Mike, who have solved more than a dozen ‘Cedar Bay’ mysteries together, happen to be at the vineyard as tourists; and when Angela’s body is discovered, the local sheriff asks them for help. They start investigating, and soon realise that, even though Angela seemed to be so popular, there are more than enough suspects! Matteo, the prime suspect, whom Kelly thinks innocent, though; young and ambitious Caitlin, who wanted Angela’s job; Mrs Moretti, the jealous wife of the vineyard owner; Carlos Romero, Moretti’s rival and Matteo’s employer; his young niece Alessandra who’s obviously in love with Matteo… There’s no physical evidence, though, of the murderer – except for a sole print from a pair of sandals the sort that everybody on the vineyard wears, it seems… A clever, intriguing little murder puzzle with a beautiful ambience and generous information on food and drink, including of course some tasty recipes at the end. Though perhaps the cat is let out of the bag a little early, we can follow the last steps that lead to the apprehension of the murderer. The lovable protagonists make the story worthwhile, and they make us want to read more of their adventures!
Kelly seems to be a magnet for murder! Luckily she is also really good at ferreting out the truth. No matter where she goes she and her husband Sheriff Mike Reynolds end up involved--vacation? They haven't had a really relaxing one yet.
This time they were invited to go with Kelly's daughter and son-in-law to Sonoma to partake in wine tasting and golf for the guys. They left the grandchildren home--but one of the girls got really sick so they had to go home--which left Kelly and Mike to fend for themselves.
When the winemaker at a first class vintner is found in a vat of fermenting wine---Kelly gets busy. There are quite a few suspects--but who was desperate enough to murder the winemaker?
Of course in-between interviewing the suspects they had to eat--and Kelly picked up some delicious sounding recipes that she will probably introduce in her cafe back home. You will be able to try some out also--they are at the back of the book!! Murdered by Wine
Another great cozy mystery by USA today best selling author Dianne Harman. The thing I like best about her books are the great characters and with Kelly and Mike you have another winning pair. The story starts with the murder and then you have the lead up to the death, before Kelly starts to do her thing. I didn't really like the motive behind the murder for this book and think the character was to well liked to have been killed but that doesn't mean I didn't like the mystery. The wine experience was a nice setting and I was glad I didn't need to be a wine connoisseur to enjoy it. Kelly's daughter wants to show how much she has learnt on her wine tasting course by taking Kelly and Mike away for a wine experience. Mike's time on the golf course is cut short when Kelly arrives at the winery to find the place full of police cars. The wine maker they met the day before has been found in a vat of boiling wine. Was it an accident? Her friends knowing how safety conscious she was don't think so. Kelly and Mike offer there assistants to the police chief and are soon questioning the staff. Does one of them have a motive to kill the award winning wine maker? I like the narrator, she is one of my favourites out of all the narrators this author uses over her different series. She has a clear gentle way of speaking. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This is a relaxing cozy to read. Although the title is "Murdered by Wine," a person does not need to drink a glass of wine while reading it. As a matter of fact, Kelly does not like wine tasting. What really quenches her thirst is solving the murder of the lady tour guide. The best fun is getting to spend time with her son - in - law, Brad, and their daughter. When the ghastly incident happens, Kelly's husband, Mike, is ready to help the officers there in California.
I really liked this cozy written by Dianne Harman because the murder is easy to solve. Plus, I liked learning about the wine making process. When I think of wine making, I see Lucy and Ethel on "I Love Lucy" stamping around in a vat of grapes. Now I know there is a new way to mash grapes. Machinery is used to deseed, etc.
I also loved reading about the calls back and forth to the families in Italy. I would love to know the prices of a meal and wine at The Pastel Rose where Kelly and Mike visited. That information might knock me dead since I'm only use to the Olive Garden luncheons. Hearing the couple talk over the cost of the meal made them seem like ordinary couple counting their pennies while on a trip.
I have read all the books in this series. I am a great fan of Dianne Harman. The setting of this book is almost in my backyard; I live in Northern CA about 3 hours south of the Sonoma/Napa vineyards. The area is beautiful! It is coincidental that as I read the ending of this book the fires in the Sonoma are taking place. I knew there would be a murder so as the book progressed I had a feeling who was going to be murdered and looked for clues as to who could be the killer. I’m glad in this book Kelly did not get herself in a situation where she almost gets killed too. The book is very easy reading and so very enjoyable. In this series, food is important and there are always yummy recipes at the end. The author doesn’t fail in this book ! I think the author alluded to the plot for the next book so time will tell; will it take place during a Disneyland holiday with the granddaughters?
Audiobook: I was entertained by this story. I liked Kelly and her husband Mike, and I appreciated that Mike recognized Kelly's ability to talk to people and learn things from them that someone in law enforcement might not learn. I was intrigued by Sonomo, California and the descriptive phrases sparked my interest in going to visit and stop by the wine testing places. I enjoyed figuring out the culprit before the end of the story. I thought Kasey Logan's narration was fine as her performance was easy to follow. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
"A Vacation To The Wine Country Turns Into Murder"
Mike Reynolds, an Oregon county sheriff, and his wife, Kelly, take a short vacation to Sonoma, California to tour the wineries. A local woman, Angela, has been found dead floating face down in a wine vat. They decide to lend an investigative hand to the local authorities. There are many people who become suspects as they all have something to gain from her death. As all the other mysteries in this series, this is another appealing story for readers. So, kick back and enjoy a glass of wine while you read this great entertaining story.
Good book. Good character and plot development. Great ending
Another "vacation" with Kelly and sheriff Mike. This one to Sonoma in wine making country. Of course, they run into a murder which Mike and Kelly pretty much solve with the local sheriff busy with an emergency. Good story - though I think I liked the victim and really hoped she wasn't the one killed. The beginning of the book is so good that I wasn't certain who the victim was going to be. Kudos to the author - she made me sad. (I got over it)
Set in California's wine country, this mystery reveals a little about the wine industry, running a winery and the positive impact it has had on California tourism. The plot follows the usual for Diane Harmon's books but the characters seem plausib!e and the super sleuthing of Mike and Kelly appear possible. It's a fast read. Great to read curled up on a chilly day with a glass (or two) of California wine! Great recipes as usual.
Every book I have read by Dianne Harman has been spectacular! I have never been disappointed in any book by this author. She has the ability to bring the characters to life in a way I have never seen. Congratulations to Dianne and may this book hit. # 1 soon.
Wine tasting is a new venture for Mike and Kelley.
Mike and Kelly meet up with Kelley's daughter and son-in-law in Sonoma Valley wine country for a private wine tasting tour. While there the discovery of the wine maker in one of the vats leads to the question, was she murdered or did she fall in by accident. A must read.
I love Dianne books, and have never been disappointed by any of them. The detail information that goes into the stories is great, in this it's about wine. The characters, we are familiar with Mike and Kelly, we meet once again. Always looking for the next adventure to where her next book will take us.
I love the characters and the stories in this series! This book has the regular characters along with some new ones involved in the wine industry. The story is full of secrets about a murder. There’s a little humor as well. And there are always some dogs along the way and Dianne includes some yummy recipes.
Part of the Cesar Bay series, this books finds Kelly and her husband Sheriff Mike traveling to Sonoma. What begins as a fun get-away, ends up with them working with the local Sheriff to solve the mystery of who murdered a renowned winemaker. Lots of likely suspects to consider, but they unravel the mystery.
Another great installment in the Cedar Bay mysteries. This story takes place in a Winery and of course a murder happens. Awesome reading, awesome plot, and characters are wonderful. Had me guessing who the killer was!!
I truly love Mike and Kelly although I must admit I really missed the dogs in this one. Now that it looks like a trip to Disneyland may be coming up I'm wondering how it's going to include a murder!?!
I have this book 5 stars because I have read every book that Dianne Harman has written and everyone is better than the last. This one was about wine, even though I'm not a expert i do love a glass a wine and this story was terrific.
I love Dianne Harmans books and this series is my favorite I love Kelly and Mike if you love a great cozy with wonderful stories and characters you will love than these are a must read
I have read all of her different series and enjoef every one of them. Even enjoyed her recrpie s. I highly recommend all her books and series and characters and great storylines in every book ☺ Diana Romano
While visiting vineyards in California, Kelly and the Sheriff end up helping with the murder of a winemaker. When the Sheriff has to rush back home, they really hope they aren't abandoning the Sheriff in California~
Book was going along and all of the sudden it ends. Sheriff Mike gets a call about the flu hitting Beaver county and they head home. So you find out the rest in the epilogue.
With so many books to her credit how does the author come up with new mysteries every few weeks. This one takes place in a wine vat in a winery. You won’t believe some of the evidence that proves the killer of the victim. Another great Harman mystery.
This Series is a great read, entertaining and it does hold your interest. A little small but still very good. Very easy to read in one sitting. Great reading everyone!
