Margery Cuyler is the author of many books for children, including From Here to There, The Little Dump Truck, and That’s Good! That’s Bad! The idea for That’s Good! That’s Bad! was inspired by a conversation with her son, Thomas, who asked, "Can't bad things change into good things?" Ms. Cuyler grew up in the oldest house in Princeton, NJ, and started writing stories as soon as she learned how to write. She now lives in the same house with her husband, sons and two cats.
This is a picture book intended for ages 1-4. This is a scholastic book. This book is about a farmer that sneezes, and it spreads to all of the farm animals and people. This would be a fun book for a health class for young readers. This book also only has about ten words in it. On almost every page the words say "ah, ah, ah, choo!" This book could help teach what happens with you do not cover up your mouth when you sneeze. The pictures are colorful and have very little background so that it does not distract from the animals sneezing. They are very colorful and expressive animals. The story really doesn't lend much to the imagination, the flu just spreads to all the animals very simply. I would love to use this book in class for a health lesson. But the older the group of children are, the less interested they will probably be in this story. Since it is so repetitive, I would only recommend this book for ages one to three or four.
Ah-Choo! By Margery Cuyler Both the story and the pictures within this book, capture your attention. I picked this book because of how well the pictures go with the story. Each progression of sneeze is illustrated with crazy faces of each animal and person. The farmer passes his powerful sneezes on to the rest of his farm, even the animals. When the whole farm is infected, they call the doctor who takes care of them. Then, the doctor has a powerful sneeze and it all begins again. Ah-Choo only uses one phrase throughout the story. But, because of how well the illustrations are, no other words are needed. This fun story is perfect for young children and funny cosplay. I gave this book only three stars because I feel as if it is not the best read aloud story but would be fun in certain situations.
This is a silly story about a farmer who starts sneezing it and then passes it on to his Wife. She then passes it around to the animals on the farm, and the ending has a silly twist with the doctor who comes to aid them. This would be an excellent book to teach students different animals or how one simple sneeze or statement can spread quickly, so they should think before they do something.
The farm has the flu. It all starts with the farmer who sneezes on his wife, and it spreads around the farm from there. From the cow with a moo-moo ah, ah, ah-choo to the chick with a peep-peep, ah, ah, ah-choo.
This is a very simple read, good for emergent readers. The animals all make their sounds and then sneeze, forming a repeating pattern kids can catch on to quickly.
