Nightmares, panic attacks, and studying, oh my! Jax’s life hasn’t found its new normal yet. Things have quieted some since the Assassin attack, but Jax and Alvus are still feeling the effects. Sleepless nights can lead to stupid mistakes. But going to the movies one weekend with his friends requires an armed guard – what is he, the president now? That isn’t a mistake, and if he overlooks the soldiers, it’s an amazing time. Finding out his family history starts to make Jax question who he really is until a few of the adults around him remind him that it’s not blood that counts. It’s decisions and heart.

Ok... Suprisingly considering we're talking about 15 yr olds.. I'm liking this. More of a developing romantic interest (they're too young to get too deep... in my opinion) and developing into adulthood.
While this sees where a direction of romantic intent is more pronounced and followed through, I still think that something might pop up with the other 'love interest'..... kind of like a first love, and then move on to a more adult relationship.
I wish this had stayed off my radar for longer... that way I would have had more to read back to back..
This book is a bit of a divergent from the normally more adult books this author puts out. It features a teenage boy in the same world as The Lost Shifters series.
This book continues right after the first in the Coalition Training series, they really need to be read in order to be appreciated. Reading the other connected series beforehand (The Lost Shifters, Wayne County Wolves, Assassin's Loyalty, and Shane's Chronicles) will make this series make more sense and help in understanding who the older characters are, but if you don't want to read those over thirty books, at least read the first in the Coalition Training Academy.
In this book Jax is still a student at the Training Academy for the Feline Shifter Coalition. He is recovering from being attacked and still trying to find his footing like any other teenage boy. His friends try to be supportive and he gets closer to some of them. He is also becoming closer to the adults at the academy, getting over some of his awestruck terror.
This, the second in the series, feels much like a bit of a placeholder. We learn more about Jax and his family while things are set up to become important in later books. It is well-done though and I really like Jax, so it's an enjoyable read though a bit unsatisfying since it doesn't have a conclusion. In fact it seems to be setting up for some heartbreak later. I know it's very unlikely, but I would adore it if Jax ended up in a menage instead of having to eventually choose between two guys he really cares for.
I was very pleased when this book popped up on my recommended books. I was also ssurprised. I follow Stephani Hecht on Facebook as well as Goodreads and missed the announcement of this book. This story continues the saga of Jax and the cadets of the Coalition. Jax is dealing with a lot of issues in this story. The story picks up right where the last left off. As this is a young adult book the level of affection is perfect.
I really enjoyed this younger series by Stephani. Jax and Alvus are a sweet young mm couple and with Alvus's brother Philip, Ava, Shane, Trevor, Keegan, Logan, Mitchell and all the Coalition behind them, the story is great. This story continues Jax's Rebellion, so you need to read it first so you don't miss out. I love that you see the older shifters and how they interact with the students and to see Ava growing up is great. We also see a softer side of Shane with the young kids, too, so a continuing growth in his mental state which is excellent; he's still the assassin everyone loves though! Definitely want to see these series about the younger shifters continue.
