✨ CRIMELLA, of the NETTLEACRE MURDERS cozy murder mysteries
Three bored neighbours enjoy playing detective until a serial killer, a witness-protection crime boss, and paranormal entities, land on their doorstep to help with a missing persons report.
REVIEWS “I devoured this book” “Reminds me of real-life true crime” “What’s brilliant about this story is how it mashes up cosy countryside vibes with supernatural shenanigans and great quick-witted chatter. The action, the lovable cast, and the gorgeous English setting really make it stand out 5⭐️” "I would recommend Crimella to readers who love paranormal stories with unusual twists, playful and bold characters, ensemble casts, or anything that feels fresh and different from typical mystery structure. If you enjoy books that are fun, weird, supernatural, and full of personality, you will enjoy this one" "Honestly so fun. The overall plot is serious and dark at times, but the characters brought this quirky, humorous, bold energy that made the whole book feel entertaining and playful in a way that made the characters feel alive and unpredictable. They have such big personalities, and they kept things interesting'' "If spice is your thing, you’ll get a taste and plenty of inner longings and innuendos that should satiate what you’re looking for" "A quirky paranormal murder mystery filled with bold characters, dark secrets, and an ensemble cast that kept me entertained from start to finish, a lot of fun" "The tone of this book is very unique. The crimes are dark, brutal, and disturbing. At the same time, the characters themselves are fun, flirty, sarcastic, bold, and chaotic. They do not take life too seriously, but they absolutely take protecting each other seriously. That contrast creates such an interesting dynamic. You get the darkness of a high stakes plot with the humor and lightness of a found family style cast" “I love Anna, a character in her 50s who is desirable and fierce. That scene with her and Mr Tux–wooh! Hot!” ''If you’re after a murder mystery that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still dishes out plenty of intrigue, this book set in the sleepy village of Nettleacre is a real treat. You’ve got an oddball trio who bounce off each other brilliantly. They’re always up for a glass of wine, a bit of cheeky banter, and poking their noses where they probably shouldn’t, which makes for a cracking read” “When amateur sleuths become involved in trying to solve a missing person case they don’t realise that there is a lot more going on in their sleepy village and their neighbours are maybe not who they appear to be” “I absolutely thoroughly enjoyed this. Great characters, some who are otherworldly, and an engaging storyline. The world of serial killers, witness protection and missing people comes to the sleepy village of Nettleacre where things are not as they seem” “If you like your murder mysteries with a twist and a good laugh, you’ll have a blast with this one—it’s a classic fun and fresh take on the genre. I really enjoyed it! 5⭐️"

A raunchy Thriller that contains Murder, sex, violence, prostitution, secrets, lies, stalking and friendship.
Three best friends, one deadly stalker, secrets and lies, but which one is the stalker after!
As he lurks in the shadows...click...click....click.... the sound of his camera documenting every detail for his ultimate pleasure later.
The complex characters were well thought out. Each one flawed in their own way.
I absolutely loved reading this Taut psychological Thriller It was a tantalising, dark deliciously twisty thriller that built up suspense along the way. Never quiet knowing when the stalker was about to strike.
This book does contain sensitive issues and graphic scenes of sex, rape, murder, gay sex and prostitution and stalking which some readers may find difficult to read.
If you enjoy Taut Chilling psychological Thrillers, that sizzle with sexual tension, then you will really enjoy The Penance List.
Thank you to Rachel Random Resources for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
We’re a bit old for older men don’t ya think? Ours would come with a wheelchair and bus pass. It would be more useful to learn a few resuscitation techniques... a good bit of slap’n tickle and a cheeky bit of CPR, very sexy.
Tara had a sweet way of talking naughty whilst making it sound as if she were discussing pruning petunias.
She was hardly WAG material, being over thirty, more like GAG material, ‘grandmothers and girlfriends’.
… and to think she’d grown up wanting to be a nun – as a girl, she’d loved their outfits, particularly the long blue dresses with the white veils. She could do the ‘doing good’ bit easily enough; it was the ‘being good’ bit where she failed.
The hovering Enzo stared at her. Maybe he should consider becoming gay. You learned so much about women working in the restaurant business.
My Review:
It always worries me when I fall deeper and deeper into a creepy and sinister plot while vastly enjoying the experience. I fear there may be something wrong with me to become so enthralled and transfixed on such a twisted and disturbing story. But in my defense, this superbly penned stunner quickly mesmerized me and held me in thrall with razor-sharp and well-crafted writing. The storylines were ingenious and compelling, cleverly insightful, and often witty and amusing. I had a hard time putting my Kindle down any longer than necessary for those pesky chores such as sleeping and seeking sustenance. The characters were fascinating, original, complex, and enticing, yet deeply flawed - some more than others.
The taut narrative was skillfully written in the third person omniscient POV of practically everyone, including taxi drivers, waiters, and receptionists; with frequent dashes of clever humor, intense sensual scenes, and a mesmerizing and suspense-filled build-up to the gruesomely plotted climax. But I also want to mention there were also haunting, dark, and grisly descriptions of abuse and violence. It was highly evocative and often elicited a powerful response whether empathic or severely creepy. But did you notice this was Book #1? While the cliffhanger wasn’t vile and heinous, the story is not complete, damn it, but it did reach a comfortable stopping point.
To end on a positive note, I also picked up some new vocabulary words, several of which would never pass the Amazon censors but I believe sloaney will make it, which is apparently a young party animal from a posh and wealthy family with more money than sense. Hmm, I would have aspired to being a sloaney young adult in my day.
Tara, Helen, and Josie have been close friends for many years. Every Friday was reserved as a girls day lunch where they got together and discussed men or there lack of a man in their life at the moment. Their bond is tight and they are more like sisters than friends. Only, there are secrets being kept and a stalker who has been following them around town intent on making them pay.
Tara is one of my favorites out of the group. She is currently single and has been for the past year. I wouldn’t say she is promiscuous, but she does enjoy sex when in a relationship. Tara seems the more “family” oriented in the group in search of a long lasting relationship. Helen, on the other hand is rich and beautiful, but has a low self esteem. She hates herself and finds fault with the way she looks. She sleeps around with every and any man she finds as that is the only way she feels loved and wanted. Josie, the third member of this girl group, seems sweet and innocent, but she has a side that no one knows about not even her closest friends.
David has a connection to the women and an obsession with Tara. What happens when there is a new man in Tara’s life? Could that obsession turn deadly for Tara and her friends?
THE PENANCE LIST, the first book in the David Trilogy, is one doozy of a read! Like, what did I stumble into? I thought I was going to get an easy psychological thriller, instead I read some brilliantly crafted dark and devious mind bender of a story. Author S.C Cunningham has penned a delicious and often times horrifying story where each character intertwines leading up to an explosive grand finale.
The characters in the story were each written exceptionally well. S.C. Cunningham really took the time to make each character come to life with a backstory so you really get invested in their lives. I have to say there were characters that I loved and ones I hated to love. The story in itself was dark, but there were many laugh out loud moments that gave a much needed break from the evil lurking through its pages. This is a no holds barred story. The sex is plentiful – guy/guy, girl/girl….cheating…you name it it’s probably here. This book makes erotica look tame. I loved every minute of it and can’t wait to start the second book in the series.
This is the first book I read of S. C. Cunningham and it's the first in her David Trilogy. I must say that when I started reading the book I didn't know what to expect, I just knew it would be different from anything I had ever read. And I was right.
As we start reading you are immediately falling down on this rabbit hole and you won't wake up in Wonderland. S. C. Cunningham wrote the book in such a peculiar matter that I couldn't help myself but loving how dark and mysterious the story was starting to be, and how 'no-limits' it was. And I was starting to expect anything to happen.
The flow of the book was great and it never let go of my attention. As we go deeper and deeper into this crazy and sinister plot, we get to know more the characters. They all are complex and flawed character, which gives the book an even real feel to it. With intense sensual scenes, suspense and gruesome moments, and the thriller that started to run through my body as I was reading... I can almost guarantee that you will go on an unexpected journey through this psychological thriller.
Brilliantly crafted, visual and devious, "The Penance List" will get you to experience the story as if you were a part of it. Each characters' interactions leads to actions that makes the reader anxious for every page, an in the end the grand finale makes you want to grab the next book as fast as you keep.
I could talk about every character and let you all know my thoughts, but I feel like you guys will get as invested in their lives as I was, and you should decided for yourselves without my words running around in your mind, because I can assure you, you will already have many thoughts to keep you occupied.
I enjoyed every thing minute while reading this book and I couldn't seem to stop reading at night despite all the darkness of the book. And I absolutely recommend it if you guys are willing to adventure into this dangerous and unusual, Thriller and Erotica book.
'Shocking & an eye opener! S C Cunningham writes stunning accounts of the rich and famous! I was mesmerized with the way these people live and act and read the book in one sitting. All I can say is I can't wait for the follow-up to this eye-opening account of stars and athletes. Bravo Ms. Cunningham - keep writing everything you have ever seen because I find it quite exotic and crazy.' D Williamson, Amazon Review, 5 Stars,Moncton, Canada
'Great novel about sex. Dynamic Characters! Cunningham has crafted an epic in proportion novel here. Her characters are sultry and as real as they can get. I recommend this book very highly.' Glen Cantrell, Amazon Review, 5 Stars,California, USA
'I have recently listened to The Penance List on audio and loved it!!!! It's sexy, highly amusing and has the ability to really draw you in until you actually feel sorry for David... Which is great. I enjoyed it so much I have bought four copies for my friends, they just have to read it. I was wondering when the next instalment will be available on audio, I have a small child and a business so I just don't have time to sit down with the book but can hardly wait.' Alexandria N, UK
'My God you shocked my shoes off. Excellent work! ' Authonomy Author, Harper Collins.
'Couldn't put it down - a real page turner. Nicely crafted and highly unusual format with all the threads coming together right at the end. It's in a category all of its own and would make a great film. I look forward to the sequels. Well done'. Amazon Review
'Boy, if anyone can write about sex this lady can! It's a complete turn on from start to finish - I'm ashamed to say even the sadistic bits have erotic appeal - and no writer's ever done that for me before!! I love the characters - they involve you straight away and the plot keeps you hooked right to the end.... what end? I'm going to read the next two parts of the trilogy as soon as I can get hold of them. You're a very brave lady Ms Cunningham, and I love what you've done: you've somehow given us all the things we want to read about in one. It makes you shiver, it makes you laugh out loud, it intrigues you, it arouses you... you don't feel guilty lapping up the horror because the characters in one way or another seem to deserve it (or get their revenge for it).' Jeni I, Amazon, 5 stars, USA
'Bravo! Cunningham artfully weaves a compelling tapestry of murder, mayhem, and Martinis in her latest work, ''The Penance List." Delicious and salacious, this novel offers a new twist on the modern romance and the classic psychological thriller. It is a riveting tale filled with colorful characters, suspenseful sequences, and titillating twists. A fabulous read for those who dare!' Sharon Gutierrez Grgich,LA, USA
'Naughty, nice and nasty - I loved it! I was lucky enough to meet the author! She's utterly gorgeous and charming with sparkly eyes and a giggle that fills the room. Who'd have known she could write about such dark and sinister people? I was warned that the opening chapter is pretty horrifying - but it does prepare you for some of the horrors to come, at least! Set in London, there are characters that we can all recognise, some of whom I fell in love with. Other characters are less likeable - but only because they'd been written well! An added bonus is that the characters are developed well throughout the book by the author. I changed my opinion of one or two - but the writing allowed this to feel natural - and didn't jar as it has in some other books I've read! Gay or straight the characters are sexy - and their liaisons completely believable and add to the plot! And the twist at the end took me completely by surprise... Perhaps not for the fainthearted but so, if you dare, pick up a copy or download it and ENJOY! xx' Adrian F, Amazon Review, 5 Stars,London, UK
'The Penance List is a compelling novel. Even though the read is 470 pages, I found myself snatching it up every chance I could, wanting to see what David would do next. The book is dark, naughty...sometimes downright nasty. Cunningham's first novel will hold your attention to the very end'. Susan Whitfield, Amazon Review, USA.
'A thoroughly entertaining debut, The Penance List is a mind-bending instant classic. Be on the lookout for more from this immensely talented rising literary star.' Josee Morgan, USA
'A really good read preferably in daylight! One minute horrified the next laughing out loud, I finished the book covered in goose bumps'. Amazon Review, UK
'Have to say the book is fabulous ... I'm pretending it's not my cup of tea as supposedly a girlie read but genuinely brilliant!' Richard, Monte Carlo, Monaco
'God I loved your book! It was intense, great narration, and wonderful dialogue'. Authonomy Author Review, Harper Collins.
‘I bought this book yesterday and have just finished it this morning. I could not put it down and have been the most anti-social person since picking it up. Siobhan, if you carry on writing books like this I will not have any friends left!!!!! It was BRILLIANT, fantastic stuff and can't wait for book two to see what Helen and David get up to, poor Tara!!!!! Well done’ Samantha Anderson,London, UK.
'This reminds me a little of American Psycho only so very much better! You are a talented writer and I was compelled to keep reading and now I'm frustrated because I WANT MORE! I'd not only buy this but I'd buy it for friends!! BACKED 100%'. Liz, Authonomy Author, Harper Collins.
Really struggled to put this book down once i started. Kept me enthralled through out the whole thing. Loved it!!! Will be looking out for the next one to see how it all plays out. I received a free copy of this book from the author, via Voracious readers, in exchange for a review.
Oh my goodness! The Penance List is so fast-paced, I fell off the bed reading it! I have to admit it is not my usual cup of tea and I don't really like blood and guts. But this was well written and had tempo so you don't dwell on the "gore bits".
The Good Great style, lots of action and intrigue. What a change from romance and I honestly do think that I could fall in love with this genre. I am glad I took a chance on it.
The Bad Somethings put me off my dinner... but I am pretty sure that is the genre and the author wanted that!!
The Ugly There was so much in this book; I realized I am a little old mumsy type! (Can often be confused with an old fart!) But that doesn't mean the book was ugly. I don't know how, but I enjoyed it!
A great read! 5 Stars... Dare I say, I want more?!!!
"He stared down at her, studying her reaction as if a rat in a science lab. With cold, calm, knowing, he gave a gentle nod of his head and smiled. She’d guessed right. Her mind raced, the realization of what he had in mind pumped sobering adrenaline through her body..."
Tara loves her job in advertising and is in a bit of a dry spell in her love life. She is the one who organizes the photo shoots, not the one in the photos, but the very private, and sexy, Italian football star, Franco Rossellini, has other ideas. Her brief, clandestine, and very hot, tutorial teaching Franco how to relax in front of the camera has convinced him that he wants Tara in the photo shoot with him instead of the highly-paid model. Little did they know this would carry dangerous and painful consequences for them both.
David has loved her forever. She was the only one who was kind to him when he needed it most, but when he professed his love in a letter so many years ago, she turned him down and broke his already battered heart. The time has come. She must pay like the rest.
In the first of the David Trilogy, Cunningham's characters are gradually developed by transitioning between past and present. I'm not usually a fan of this type of storytelling, but it worked in this instance. The inner turmoil in the characters (especially the protagonist) is intense and keeps the reader engaged and rushing to read the next chapter. This is a riveting psychological thriller that lures you in slowly and stuns you at the end. Book 2 here I come. Be warned that this book contains graphic and disturbing scenes.
"This one comes with a warning – a steamy suspense-ridden psychological thriller – think Silence of the Lambs meets 50 Shades and hold on tight! S C Cunningham writes with a skilled mix of fueled tension, dark humour and pulsating sex scenes. Grab a glass of wine, close the bedroom door and read alone!" This is from the blog tour material I received. I have to agree with every word! This story had me cringing, getting excited, and getting upset while reading it.
David Howard, a young boy who is sent to boarding school and is too pretty for his own good. He has had a lot of bad things happen to him and to cope, he has turned to the dark side. His love for his sister, Helen's best friend, Tara is thrown back at him by Tara after she receives a letter confessing his love.
Tara Warr is a bit older and does not carry the same feelings for David as he carries for her. She feels that they are both too young to know what love is and in her reply letter to David she tells him that she is not the woman for him. Unfortunately, this is just another thing to push David over the edge.
I enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to the next in the series. This was my first read of S. C. Cunningham's books, but I look forward to reading more. I loved the characters in this story. Seb, Franco, Michael and Anton were great and fun to read. Helen is a little off...Josie, I am unsure of still.
Great job! I give this book 4.5 stars and look forward to reading more of the trilogy.
This story is about three women; Tara, Helen, and Josie. All three are closer than sisters and meet every Friday for lunch to discuss their lives. Each has their own perks and quirks with men and themselves. But there is more to their lives than what they discuss. It seems someone is obsessed with Tara and has been following the women around. It seems he is NOT happy to learn that Tara has a new boyfriend.
I have to be honest, after reading the blurb to the story I was not expecting what I got with this book. It is filled with darkness, evil, and a whole lot of sex. Tara is looking for a relationship that is going to last. Helen has body issues which leads to her lifestyle and Josie might seem to be the girl next door but she has her own secret side.
Then there is David. I couldn’t help but feel for him a little bit with I learned of his past and what drove him to this point. But knowing what he wants to do to Tara puts him up on the creep shelf and made me never want to be around him.
This is a killer story that has a great plot with well developed characters and enough sex to keep everyone happy. I was very surprised and will definitely be keeping my eyes open for the next book in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
I really enjoyed this Book. Fantastic written storyline, with great characters all friends of Tara, they all have secrets to tell. Fascinating plot with a big twist you will be surprised what you will find out when you read this story.
The only thing I didn't like was the jumps into the past and back to present. To many of them, I know it was necessary to get the insight, but maybe done differently. But overall I have enjoyed the storyline.
And something else what was weird, every word with two ff was separated like this: giggling sn iffi n g blonde, di ffi cult over the place.
I recently had an interview with this author on my blog and after seeing her responses and enthusiasm for her books I knew I needed to read one, so when the tour came up for Penance List I jumped at the chance to join in!
Well I have to say wow after reading this book!! It was so much more than I expected and I thoroughly enjoyed it - it had sex, murder, secrets and lies and it was a brilliant thriller. I was hooked straight away and enjoyed every page - very well written and very well put together with a brilliant writing style!!
Good book with some twists. It all goes to show people are not always what they seem. The Penance List starts off a little slow but it gets better as you read because you want to know what will happen next. This is a story about an abused person becoming an abuser. It is also about three girlfriends and their secret and not so secret lives and how the abuser (the brother to one of the girlfriends) affect their lives. I recommend this book to anyone who likes dark psychological books.
Wow. This book absolutely sizzles from start to finish. It’s bold, intense, and completely unafraid to dive into the raw and the real sensual, emotional, and psychologically gripping all at once. The writing is sharp, vivid, and daringly original, and the characters are so alive you feel like you know them.
It was a good book with some good twists. In my opionion very dark. I did like the plot of the story, it was interesting and different from what I normally read. I think the writing was very good. I would be interested in reading the second book.
Sex and tension make for an interesting read. There are times the humor seems out of place, and multiple instances of “head-hopping” in terms of POV. Somewhat of a twist at the end, which may be explained in the next installment of the series. Read for an honest review through Voracious Readers.
I enjoyed it. It had a slow start, but became interesting in a hurry, ending with an unexpected cliffhanger. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy murder mysteries.
Wow! What a read! I didn’t research the book and delved into it blindly, only having the summary to go by and not completely knowing what the book was about.
And all I can say is what a fantastic find!
I was gripped from the very first chapter! It was dark, sexy, provocative, thrilling and oh so exciting! The characters were deep and brought a lot of great reading material to the book.
This story made ’50 Shades’ look like a tame children’s book. It was so raunchy and I loved every word of it and lapped it up enthusiastically. The pages turned quick and fast as I hurried to see how the story would end. I was not disappointed when i did finally get to the last page; instead I wanted more!
I was so pleased to find out that there is more to this book; and that the story isn’t over yet. The books in this trilogy have already been put into my TBR list.
There is a big part of me that understands why David is the way he is and I feel sorry for the person that is lost and who could have been, but damn he is a evil-dark-sexy-man. To say that he is ‘hot’ is an understatement. Yes he is troubled, yes he is angry and at times very scary, but there is something about the character that draws me in. The whole story got me hot under the collar more than once.
Well, I finished reading this last night, but needed a good nights sleep before writing a review because it completely mind f**ked me. I want to make it clear that is was absolutely NOT a romance novel. I knew that before I started reading it, but had no clue as to how deranged it was going to be. It's exactly what a was looking for. It gave me the same gross feelings that captive in the dark did. I was like "What!! Whoa!! Ugh!! Eek!!" Then was all "lol!!" All of the characters were so well developed and well needed. Their lives were all intertwined with each others and equally dysfunctional. This story was SO suspenseful and contained lots of graphic and mature subjects such as: murder, rape, voyeurism, drugs, prostitution, stalking, BDSM and lots of sex! Hot sex, not so hot sex, straight sex and gay sex. This book made me feel so many different emotions. Each character had their own story and I got wrapped up in each one! I loved some of the terms used that I'm not used to reading And had a lot of laugh out loud moments at some of the things said. I still can't wrap my mind around some of the madness, but I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I literally could not put it down!
