This boxed set includes the first THREE FULL LENGTH installments of The Blue Rose Regency Romances: The Culpepper Misses Series, featuring devilish rogues and the unpredictable women who capture their hearts.
The Earl and the Spinster Brooke Culpepper has focused her energy on two things: keeping the struggling dairy farm that’s her home operating and preventing her younger sister and cousins from starving. Then her cousin loses the farm to Heath, Earl of Ravensdale at the gaming tables. Desperate, pauper poor, and with nowhere to take her family, Brooke proposes a rash wager. Heath's stakes? The farm. Hers? Her virtue. The land holds no interest for Heath, but he finds Brooke irresistible and ignoring prudence as well as his sense of honor, he just as recklessly accepts her challenge.
The Marquis and the Vixen Dragged to London for a Season, Blythe Culpepper is dismayed to learn her guardian has enlisted the devilishly attractive Tristan, Marquis of Leventhorpe—the one man she detests—to assist with her launch into Polite Society. Still, she cannot deny the way her body reacts when he’s near. Blythe taxes Tristan to his limits with her sharp wit and even sharper tongue, yet the beauty captivates him like no other. When a past enemy comes calling, Tristan risks all, including his honor to protect Blythe.
The Lord and the Wallflower Brette Culpepper enchants Alexander Hawksworth from the moment they met, but as a humble vicar, she’s too far above his station. Then Alex unexpectedly inherits an earldom, and he’s determined to make her his countess—until he’s accused of the previous earl’s murder. Brette finds herself falling in love with the charming vicar, but when a new guardian emerges intent on forcing her to wed an elderly degenerate instead of Alex, her world turns upside down. Can Alex clear his name in time to rescue Brette from an unimaginable fate, or will they be forced to elope amidst scandal and disgrace?

I have read only BRETTE: INTENTIONS GONE ASTRAY Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper, Book 3 so far, but Collette Cameron is always amazing and consistent!
Brette Culpepper finds parties boring. A born matchmaker, she agreed to bring her friend Ophelia closer to the man Ophelia fancies; Brette is not really meddling, she’s merely giving Cupid a push in the right direction, of course. Reverend Alex Hawksworth, St. Peter’s rector, on the other hand, loves the ton’s glittery parties. He of the sun-kissed handsomeness and the velvety voice unfortunately does not possess pockets lined with gold. And although he finds the fetching Brette very appealing indeed, he disapproves strongly of her matchmaking, and he is proved right when Ophelia elopes. Brette comes from a good family of modest means, she looks longingly at Alex, but he is only a reverend. Then suddenly, both Alex and Brette’s circumstances change drastically!
Alex is a splendid character: upright, and a real knight in shining armour when the need arises, and he will fight anyone who threatens Brette in any way. Brette has much more depth than her matchmaking self at first suggests; she is lively and lovely. Brette and Alex’s slightly flirtatious friendship is genuinely charming, and I loved how natural their conversations sounded. BRETTE: INTENTIONS GONE ASTRAY is of course a romance, but I couldn’t believe how many plot twists there were! The romances progresses organically, the way a bud blossoms into a flower. There are of course dogs and cats, a crusty grandmother, humour, and terrific banter all around. Both Brette and Alex are very appealing from the onset, and many levels of their personalities are revealed as they each face obstacles.
Ms. Cameron perfectly captures the oftentimes sad reality of the Ton, and its shallowness. The author’s superbly nuanced prose dazzles as she peppers her narrative with delightful commonplace Regency words and idioms. BRETTE: INTENTIONS GONE ASTRY is a gorgeous romance that holds several surprises along with a dash of mystery.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
4.5 stars - This is a boxed set of books 1 - 3 in the Misses Culpepper Series. I thought this was a great collection and I especially liked that books 2 & 3 each started where the previous book ended.
Brooke: Wagers Gone Awry - 5 stars - I think this was my favorite in the collection. Brooke is the eldest Culpepper Miss and has spent the last five years running the family's dairy farm since her father passed away. She lives at the farm with her sister and her 3 cousins. They are barely making ends meet, as most of the profits are sent to her erstwhile cousin who inherit the property upon the death of Brooke's father.
Heath, Earl of Ravensdale had just won the farm from her cousin and intends to sell the property and evict the tenants. All that changes when he meets Brooke. The Misses Culpepper are extraordinarily beautiful and Heath is immediately drawn to Brooke. He still intends to sell the property - but he also wants Brooke as his mistress. When they meet Brooke is shocked to learn that her cousin has gambled the farm away and asks Heath to return the next day to discuss possible alternatives to selling the farm. Heath agrees but is waylaid and taken prisoner by one of Brooke's servants.
When Heath doesn't return, his friend Tristan, Marquess of Leventhrope comes looking for him. They find Heath seriously injured and bring him to the house. Once Heath recovers, he and Brooke make a wager, if he wins she will be his mistress and if she wins he will give her the property. When Brooke loses, Heath decides that he wants Brooke as his wife. But the road to their HEA will not be that simple.
This was a very entertaining story, well paced, a little steamy, a little heartache, a lot of laughs and a very happy ending.
Blythe: Schemes Gone Amiss - 4 stars Blythe and Tristan meet in the previous book and Blythe takes an instant dislike to Tristan. But once they are taken to London to have season, Blythe and Tristan form a truce of sorts and Blythe begins to think that she misjudged Tristan.
Blythe is confused by her growing feelings for Tristan and but when villains conspire to ruin her, Tristan announces they are betrothed. Blythe at first accepts his announcement, but later retracts her agreement in an effort to save him. She knows she is ruined and decides to return to the farm. She is gets stuck at an inn for the night and is shocked when Tristan shows up.
Tristan is in love with Blythe and there is no way he is going to accept her rejection of his suit.
This was a sweet story with a lot of villains dedicated to keeping our lovers apart. I liked that Tristan did not hesitate in going after Blythe and that they didn't drag out their separation. The book was well written, but really lacked the steam of the first book.
Brette: Intentions Gone Astray - 4 StarsThis is the story of Brette and Alexander Hawksworth. Alex is a rector and friends with Heath and Tristan, he is also desperately in love with Brette. He believes that there is no future for them because he cannot afford to take her as his wife, but all that changes when he unexpectantly inherits an earldom. Before he can ask for her hand a nasty rumor surfaces that he may have killed his uncle and cousin to gain the title, unwilling to subject his love to scandal, he decides to wait until his name is cleared before courting her.
Just when it seems that they will be able be together another curve is thrown at them this time in the form of a shocking revelation that Brette is not Brooke's sister, but her cousin and by the way she might be illegitimate, Alex offers for her, but she cannot accept and ruin his life.
These two have a very long and bumpy road to their HEA - but it really is worth the journey.
The book was sweet, no steam aside from a couple of kisses, well written, lots of twists and turns and leaves the reader wondering until the last chapter how these two are going to overcome all the obstacles keeping them apart!
All in all this was a very enjoyable read and I hope Ms. Cameron is planning to write stories for the twins! *I was provided with an eARC of this book by the author and am voluntarily leaving a review*
This is a three book set. I actually read book one and enjoyed it so much that I immediately bought the set and read books 2 and 3. Brooke, her sister Brette, and their cousins Blythe, Blaike and Blaire live on a struggling dairy farm that was previously owned by Brooke's father. Upon his death, due to law, women can not inherit, so the estate goes to a distant relative who allows them to live there as long as they pay 1/2 of the farm's meager income to him.
Brooke: Wagers Gone Awry. Brooke and family learn that their relative, who is also their guardian, has lost the farm in a wager. The new owner, the Earl of Ravensdale decides to sell the farm, so he drops by unannounced to try to determine what he should ask for it. He is very surprised to find 5 women living there, and sparks and fun begin to fly.
Blythe: Schemes Gone Amiss. Upon the marriage of Brooke, the family goes to London so the girls can have a Season. However, Blythe is not interested in marriage or London. She wants to stay on the farm, but is reluctantly dragged to London. Once there, she begins to see a different side of the Marquis of Leventhorpe, Ravensdale's friend, whom she had previously met at the farm, and to whom she had taken an immediate dislike.
Brette: Intentions Gone Astray. Brett is enjoying the season, but then devastating information comes to light that changes everything.
I laughed at lot while reading these books. My favorite character, however, was Freddy, the elderly, almost blind dog who still thought he could - and should - be herding sheep.
Brooke: Wagers Gone Awry After the death of her father, Brooke Culpepper is struggling to make ends meet on her family dairy farm while providing for the welfare of herself, her family and servants. Poorer than a church mouse, she's forced to make sacrifices so that she can pay her cousin (the heir of the property) rent. But one day Brooke receives a message from the cad of a cousin that he's sold the property. Later it's revealed that he actually lost the farm in a high stakes poker game. Enter Lord Ravensdale... The man who won a bet, but never counted on the stakes he'd wager to win Brooke Cullpeppers heart. Brooke will stop at nothing to keep from losing her family's home, even if that means that she must enter into an illicit affair with Lord Ravensdale. Will she become a fallen woman to save her family's legacy
Blythe: Schemes Gone Amiss The Culpeppers are in town having their first seasons thanks to cousin Brooke and her new husband. It seems that all the young ladies are excited about the prospect of finding a beau except for the eldest sister, Blythe. She would much rather be at home in the country away from the bustling and extravagance of the city. Not only does Blythe have to deal with the nauseating and vulgar displays of wealth and status, but she must also act civil to a man she cannot stand. Lord Leventhorpe is a reclusive and misunderstood hero who is constantly living in the shadow of his secret past. (With good reason.) He cares for Blythe Culpepper and seems to have developed feelings for her far sooner than the book picked up (I haven't read book 1 yet), however he is aware of Miss Culpepper's dislike for him and won't pursue his feelings. But things start to change as Blythe is in town, she realizes that Lord Leventhorpe isn't at all what she thought him to be and actually grows quite fond of him. Will she admit that she was wrong about this man who is determined to make her happy? Will Lord Leventhorpe be able to put aside his tragic past and move forward to a brighter and happier future with Miss Culpepper? Only time will tell!
Schemes Gone Amiss is a delightful story from bestselling author Collette Cameron. It's witty and funny with a tasteful steam level! From the very first line I was drawn into the story... Seriously it would be impossible to giggle at the line “GOOSE-BUTT FEATHERS!” This book is a breath of fresh air!
Brette: Intentions Gone Astray Brette Culpepper has lived her life thinking that she's Brooke's sister... until one day a Mr. Shipwreck (a fitting name for what his news will do to the poor girl) comes with some unexpected news. He claims that Brette is actually a cousin, having been born to an actress (Brooke's aunt Belinda) and a wealthy aristocrat. There's more, it seems that no one knows if her alleged parents were actually married before her birth... making her baseborn and the talk of the ton. But if Brette can prove that her parents were married, she'll suddenly become the heiress of her grandfather's sizable fortune.
Alex Hawksworth is a rector who prefers the social life of the ton to that of his quiet parish. Though poor as a church mouse, he takes every opportunity to escape his life. He's been in love with Brette Culpepper as long as he's known her, but what sort of life would she have as the wife of a poor rector? He wants more for her than he can give her. One day he inherits an earldom after the tragic death of his older brother and young nephew. Now that he can finally give Brette the life she deserves he sets out to make her his bride. But now that she's the talk of the ton, dare he speak his feelings for a possible baseborn child? What would that say about himself? Or will he throw caution out the window and marry the woman of his dreams?
Brooke: This book is a fantastic start to Collette Cameron’s new series Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper. Brooke Culpepper has been the de facto family leader over her sister and cousins after their guardian, Cousin Sheridan, leaves them to make do for themselves, even requiring that they send half of what they make on their dairy farm to him as rent. Even with all of the young ladies pitching in, they are barely making ends meet.
One stormy day, Brooke receives a letter from Sheridan stating that he has sold the estate. Shortly thereafter, Heath, the Earl of Ravensdale shows up to claim his property, not knowing that young women are Sheridan’s wards and will be left homeless. He is appalled at what Sheridan has done and determines to set Brooke up as his mistress so that he can take care of her and the rest of her family.
A bit of chaos and mayhem ensues as Brooke makes a wager with Heath that, should he win, will give her possession of the estate outright with additional funds to take care of the others without her having to give up her innocence to be Heath’s mistress. Unfortunately, the wager goes awry and Brooke loses what should have been a sure bet. More fun and shenanigans arise as we see these two fall in love and also see the set up for book two in the series.
I gave this book five stars and highly recommend it if you like historical romances or romantic comedies. Bravo!
Blythe: What a delightful book that Collette Cameron has written. The second book in her Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper series gives us the story of Blythe and Tristan, Lord Levinthorpe. While the book can definitely be read stand-alone, if you are familiar with the characters from Wagers Gone Awry, there is a pleasant continuity.
Blythe and Tristan had gotten off to a rocky start and were very wary of each other as the book begins. Tristan has been roped into helping keep an eye on all of the Culpepper ladies as they navigate the London season by her cousin-in-law the Earl of Ravensdale, one of Tristan’s best friends. As they begin to spend more time in each other’s company, they gradually become friends. Each holds deeper feelings for each other, but do not realize that those feelings are reciprocated.
When Blythe becomes seemingly compromised as a result of a scheme, Tristan comes to her rescue by claiming they are to be married. Unfortunately, misunderstandings run rampant and Blythe cries off in an effort to protect Tristan from harm. With a bit of interference on the part of her family, will these two finally admit their true feelings for each other and find their happily ever after?
Collette Cameron continues to write wonderful historical romances with complex, engaging characters. The dialogues are crisp and entertaining, while being true to the period as well. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next installments in the series.
I love Collette Cameron's stories! They are always full of great historical facts, fashion, suspense, romance and humor all of which make for a great book. What started as fun wagers that could benefit both Brooke and Heath along with Brooke's sister and cousins instead became something that all who were involved were not expecting. Heath didn't want to own property in the country. His goal was to see what he had won in a bet, get all parties moved and then sell the property for the highest possible amount and get on with his life. Brooke was barely scraping by with what she could make running the dairy and she still had to make sure that she gave her cousin half of her income every month for the rent. Little did she realize that he had lost the property in a bet and now they were all homeless and without any means to live. From the moment Heath and Brooke meet there is a spark, but is it because of the situation they all find themselves in or is there actually an attraction there that no one wants to admit?
Blythe has no desire to be in London for a Season, but her guardian brings her anyway and seems to really want what is best for her. If only he hadn't asked for his friend Lord Leventhorpe to help. In spite of the physical attraction they seem to have for one another there are times that they have gotten on each other's last nerve. Blythe finds that she will do anything to protect Tristan from a scheming woman setting her sights on marrying him and even though Tristan much rather not be part of social gatherings he finds that his growing attraction outweighs any possible embarrassment he might suffer. These two find love where they least expect it when banding together in a joint effort to get through a Season in London.
Brette's story is the third book in the Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper series. Brette was always trying to set everyone else up in a love match, but she kept finding herself in the most uncomfortable situation when it went all wrong. Making a love match for herself was going to be difficult because the man she was attracted to wasn't in the same standing as she was. Alex had no business being attracted to Brette because they weren't considered the same class, but as far as he was concerned class meant absolutely nothing and no matter what his plan was to marry her and spend the rest of his life with her.
This collection is definitely worth the read! I'm looking forward to reading more of her stories in the future.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
Flimflam and goose-butt feathers! What an absolutely unforgettable novel. This is regency romance at its finest. The setting comes to life under Cameron’s talented pen. She weaves a world steeped in the past, taking readers back in time to experience the lives of her characters for a short while. The plot was intriguing and realistic. The romance was very real, yet not very easy for the characters.
Cameron’s writing sets the tone and the scene of this story perfectly. She develops the world for her readers, without taking away their ability to imagine themselves into the story. I love the fact that this Regency romance doesn’t take place amidst London’s ton scene, but rather in a rural setting. This twist causes more plot twists than readers could fathom, while still remaining true to the regency romance genre. I love the unique feel of the novel combined with the real romance within. This novel doesn’t careen around at a breakneck pace, nor does it stagnate. Everything pieces together perfectly.
The characters in this novel and their interactions with one another make this novel even better. The main characters are a hoot. Not only is their romance sweeter than anything I can remember seeing in a regency romance, as individuals they’re amazing characters. It floors me how this author has thrown convention to the wind while developing these two without actually going outside the bounds for the time period in question. They are such unique and caring individuals that you can’t help but love them. I love how Cameron develops more than just the main couple for readers to get to know intimately. One thing I will comment on, however. I’d love to know exactly what happened to Cousin Sheridan. I assume I know, but it wasn’t spelled out for the reader. In all honesty, it’s neither here nor there with respect to the plot and Sheridan is a slimy eel, it’s more for curiosity’s sake.
Ok, it’s confession time. This novel caused me to burst into tears in the lunchroom at work. It’s fraught with emotional upheaval & this novel may be emotional, but it’s also extremely comical. You have to love a novel that makes you both laugh and cry at the same time.
The Misses Culpepper are most definitely my favourite romance heroines of all times. Collette Cameron makes romance fun. I laughed from the beginning to the end of these novels, all the while falling in love with the remarkable characters that she creates.
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
Since the death of her father Brooke Culpepper has done her very best to keep a roof over the heads of herself and her family. The cousin who inherited the house and lands is taking half of everything. The last thing Heath, the Earl of Ravensdale wants is the dairy farm he won in a wager, but he must see it before he sells it. He should not have set out in a storm though. This is the first book in the story about the misses Culpepper . Five beautiful and independent young women. A funny and sweet romance with delightful characters. ********************
Blythe : Schemes Gone Amiss. ✯✯✯✯✯
Blythe Culpepper and her family are about to make their grand entrance into their first ball. Blythe would rather be back in the countryside. Being the center of attention is not for her. Tristan, Marquis of Leventhorpe hates coming to London but he promised to help his friend with the introduction of his new family to society. The five very beautiful women are going to cause quite a storm. A lovely addition to the series that should be read in order. Lots of laughs and a little danger. A thoroughly enjoyable read. *********************
Brette: Intentions Gone Astray ✯✯✯✯✯
Miss Brette Culpepper is a young woman with far too much time on her hands and a romantic heart. She is known for her matchmaking. Unfortunately not all of her matches have been successful. She has a very upsetting time coming to her in this story. Rector Alexander Hawksworth has lectured Brette before about interfering in matters that should not concern her. He will find her something to do. He has also got a big surprise coming. Family can be a God sent blessing or the Devil's curse. Read the book and find out which it is. Wonderful characters, some we might have met in previous books. A sweet historical romance that is part of a series but easily read alone. I loved it.
I read this entire collection, previously as individual books and I must say they were fabulous, just fabulous! Laugh out loud moments, as well as danger, mystery and romance, makes for some fantastic reading. It would be hard to pick just one story , as my favorite, they were all outstanding. The H/H are engaging, enjoyable and interesting. Seriously, realistic and believable. However, there is a bit of selfishness happening, and some seems all about themself, but they quickly redeemed themselves. The Misses Culpepper sisters are witty, strong, determined and often get into trouble, even if it's not of their own accord. The men they fall in love with, absolutely have their hands full, but they would do anything to protect these ladies. If you choose one collection to read, pick up "Regency Romance: To Love a Reckless Lord". What a great collection!! I reviewed a complimentary copy.
Three charming tales about sisters and Cousins. Meet the Culpeppers who take the toon buy storm. Five diamonds, also know as milkmaids, who have never left their dairy farm are presented tho the ton. These stories are not only extremely entertaining, they are fun. My only request would be that Collette Cameron would continue the adventures of the twins for our reading pleasure
This is the first set of books I ever read written by Collette Cameron. I do love regency romance novels and Ms. Cameron writes some of the best. The stories are lighthearted entertainment with humor that made me laugh out loud more than once. I read all three books in one setting and they were well worth a sleepless night. Highly recommended for all regency romance lovers.
This book brings together the tales of the Culpepper lasses as they find their way among the Ton and their heart desires. Enjoyed these characters and settings with their trials and pathways to happy ever after. Be prepared to be whisked back to England of yesteryear. Own each book in this series.
I love Regency romances and this author knows how to write them. This is a three book collection of related women doing their best to survive in the Regency world. Loved the characters and the story line.
Book 1 I love a romance where a heroine who works hard to take care of her family, finally gets a chance to fall in love. Especially when the person who is bringing possible ruin to her family, ends up being the one she falls in love. I loved the outrageous proposal from the hero, which of course is rejected by our heroine. The cast of characters bring humor and fun to this tale, the Culpepper family promises a good intrigue through out the series.
Book 2 An outspoken heroine, who shares her opinion no matter what society dictates for proper behavior of a lady. A hero, who is unsure how to deal with a woman who breaks the rules, even though he is incredibly attracted to her. The fall in love despite, appearing to loathe each other at first. I loved the schemes and impediments to their happily ever after that come up throughout the story, it made them really work for finally being together.
Book 3 A fun historical romp romance, where a spirited heroine finally captures the heart of her hero. I love how Alex just couldn't get why Brette kept turning him down. A fun cast of characters with plenty of intrigue to keep one interested in the story.
Wagers Gone Awry 3.5* Brooke Culpepper has been responsible for her sister and three cousins since her father died. Their guardian has left them alone, only insisting on half of the monthly income from the dairy farm. The sum that remains does not allow them to pay for servants, only three now remain (faithful retainers who stay for bed and board). All the girls work to supplement their income but they still live a hand to mouth existence. They are not prepared however for the shock of finding that their cousin has wagered and lost their dairy farm. The new owner, expecting to give notice to a tenant farmer is shocked to find five beautiful (but desperately impoverished) women living in the house. Heath is immediately drawn to Brooke (and she to him) though what they have in common is a mystery - the attraction of opposites perhaps? Heath is crass and hates the countryside, whilst Brooke is his polar opposite, at times I found it difficult to connect with the characters hence the dropping of a star.
Schemes Gone Amiss 4* Sparks flew when Blythe Culpepper first met Tristan, Marquis of Leventhorpe in Book 1 of the Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper. Blythe has a lively temper and the red headed Tristan loves to goad her, but in London, both find attributes to admire in each other and their feelings begin to deepen. However, due to past humiliation Tristan keeps Blythe at arms length until a blackguard assaults her virtue and he comes to her rescue. The language in this book is not as coarse as in the first, though passages such as, "Next thing she knew, the perky pair would scramble from her bodice's lace edge and wave a jaunty hello" do seem rather out of place.
Intentions Gone Astray 4.5* Brette Culpepper loves London society; unlike her sister and cousins she has no desire to return to the country. From the moment she met Alex (in Book 1 when she mistook him for a valet) she was dazzled by his looks and getting to know his character in the intervening months since that first meeting, have just deepened those feelings but how does he feel about her? There is a lot going on in this book: matchmaking gone awry; parsons becoming Earls; suspected illegitimacy; unexpected fortunes; suspicion of murder; and attempted abduction. A fast paced and fun read; my favourite of the three Misses Culpepper stories.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
These are entertaining, amusing, romantic and enjoyable stories. The characters are charming, fun and sweet. The book can be a little too descriptive at times, it is a little frustrating when you're about to find out a major part of the storyline. But they are still brilliant stories that captivate and engage your heart. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my voluntary and honest opinion of it.
Collette has created a fun and satisfying series. The Culpepper's have turned London on their head and you will have great fun watching them bring their country ways to the cutthroat world of London Society. Will the be able to survive and find a forever love or will they fall the machination of the Ton.
4 Stars - Wagers Gone Awry: Ms. Cameron created another great read! Brooke is a great heroine that is strong and would do anything for her family. I would love for her to be my sister! Health is a great hero. While he appears to be rogue, he is a loyal and good hearted. You will enjoy reading to see if Health and Brooke can get past themselves and open their hearts to true love.
3.5 Stars - Schemes Gone Amiss - Blythe Culpepper doesn't care much for the excess of London society and longs to return to quiet simple life in the country. Lord Leventhorpe also detest London society. As a boy he was abused and humiliated by members of the ton and now as an adult has not use for them. As Blythe spends more time with Leventhorpe, she finds herself drawn to the enigma that his the man. As Blythe and Leventhorpe grow closer will they be able to overcome the schemes and plans others have to destroy them and find the love they never knew existed.
3.5 Star: Intentions Gone Astray: Alex and Brette are perfect for each other. however Brette can't seem to take Alex's interest serious and Alex refuses to chain Brette to a life of poverty. However, a change in Alex's circumstances makes it possible to take Brette as his wife. But life is never that simple and Brette learns that the life that she knows is a lie and the truth just might ruin her and her happiness.
The 3 stories told in To Love A Reckless Lord are fun, witty and completely entertaining. From beginning to end, the characters are captivating. The heroines are strong and intelligent women and their heroes are strong and tenderly written. I enjoyed reading about the Culpepper family and look forward to reading about the remaining two members of this entertaining family.
What a fun story to read! I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Culpepper girls! This was the first book I have read of Colette Cameron's and I found it to be very entertaining. I found it to be funny and romantic and would definitely recommend it. I think that Heath and Brook's story was my favorite out of the three. So if you are looking for a fun easy read I would definitely recommend these!
This was a cute, light read that I enjoyed very much. I found the heroines entertaining, the plots lighthearted and well-paced, and the heros strong and resolute. A very pleasant way to spend a few hours
Brooke: Wagers Gone Awry by Collette Cameron The Misses Culpepper...sisters & cousins who live on the dairy farm that was owned by the father of the oldest Miss Culpepper & her sister. Upon the father's death the farm is inherited by a distant relative who becomes their guardian. This guardian has no use for the girls or the farm & "allows" them to live there with Brooke, the oldest, in charge & their only allowance being half of what the dairy brings in (which isn't much).
Brooke Culpepper, the oldest of the Culpepper misses, loves running the household & the farm. She doesn't like the fact that females cannot inherit property & she is at the mercy of a distant relative. Thankfully, he doesn't want anything to do with the farm or the girls which allows them to live somewhat in peace. Well, except for the fact that they barely have enough money to live on. Each of the girls does something to supplement their income, sewing, music lessons, etc and their loyal servants continue to work for them without pay.
Heath, the Earl of Ravensdale, a confirmed rogue wins a dairy farm in a game of cards. Not something a man about town has any real interest in so he decides he will check the property out & put it up for sale. After traveling to the farm in horrendous weather he is none to happy when he arrives & finds 5 women living there.
An old dog, undeniable attraction & a series of loyal servants "trying" to help, an improper proposal & wagers going the wrong way can this couple find a happily ever after? Will the winner of the bet hold true to their end of the bargain?
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review....I absolutely LOVED this book!!! Collette Cameron has the unique ability to put you in the characters shoes. She makes excellent use of first person...especially with the little "thoughts" each character has (these cracked me up!). Along with the wager between Brooke & Heath that involves Freddy, the dog, had me laughing & yelling out loud. She also sets up the next story with the some of the secondary characters & it's going to be explosive. Anxiously waiting for the next story!
Blythe: Schemes Gone Amiss Watch out London! The Culpepper Misses have arrived at the dismay of Blythe Culpepper. Having arrived in London with her sister, brother-in-law & cousins Blythe is being introduced to the ton when she’d much rather be in the country and away from a very annoying Marquis. The man sets off her temper like no other, if there was only a way to avoid the man but alas, he is her brother-in-law’s best friend so he’ll always be a presence. Unless she can get through this season & retire to the country as she has no aspirations to wed. Until she meets a gentleman who could possibly change her plans. That is until she overhears a title grabbing “lady” & her mother plot to trap Tristan into marriage. Will this be the catalyst that has Blythe realizing exactly what those fireworks mean?
Tristan, Marquis of Leventhorpe, has led a very controlled life. Something from his childhood haunts him still & he avoids commitment of any kind. Which is soon tested by the fiery Blythe Culpepper, sister-in-law to his best friend. Whenever they are together the room vibrates with electricity. A long time enemy threatens Blythe’s safety which is the catalyst that makes Tristan realize what she means to him.
As one man’s stupidity, an enemy & title grabbing schemers will Blythe & Tristan realize what they mean to each other? Can Tristan let go of the past in order to be happy?
Another hit by the extremely talented Collette Cameron that will have you laughing & crying all at the same time. Her wit combined with the strength of her characters will draw you in & not let you go. Looking forward to her next installment to see which Culpepper Miss has me laughing out loud.
Brette: Intentions Gone Astray What could the Culpepper Misses get into now? With Collette Cameron's witty sense of humor and the Culpepper's penchant for getting into mishaps one can only imagine what troubles Brette finds. However, I wasn't prepared for the bombshell that threatens everything Brette thought she knew.
I admired the strength and straight-forwardness with which Brette handles her situation; not so much the way she handles Alexander Hawksworth and their mutual feelings. But I do have to hand it to Alex, "Hawk", in his determination to prove to Brette they belong together (and the way he handled his grandmother - BRAVO!).
Ms. Cameron continues to come up with delightful ways to torment her characters and grab her readers attention - keeping them glued to the story from start to finish.
I loved this 3 Book Series of the Misses Culpeppers. I was hoping there's a following with the twins Blaike and Blaire Culpper. The series is a delightful read and clean stories without having to divulge too much for other interested readers. I look forward to reading other books from this author!
What a great series! Stories not often seen in English romances. Had to finish all books in the series, which dealt with 5 sisters/cousins and their friends. Funny, tragic, and human. Loved the books. Well worth the cost.
Book 1 The Earl and the Spinster:Brooke takes care of her sister and three cousins. They live on a simple cattle farm and produce cheese. She just wants to provide for her family and has come to terms with being a spinster. Her other cousin inherited the title and farm when her fathers passes and takes the rents but pays no attention to these ladies. When her nasty cousin losses the property to Heath the Earl of Ravendale she tries to think of way to win her farm back. Heath having no desire to own a farm falls for Brooke instantly. During their time together he gets hurts and she nurses him back to health. She tells him she will do anything to retain her farm. He wants her period so a wager is formed. Brookes dog must corral the cows into the barn. If she wins she gets the farm, if she loses she will become Heath's mistress for a year. Well in true Cameron fashion they each get what they want...A lot of laughs with these girls and I wager the next Culpepper tale will be just as fun!
Book 2 The Marquis and the Vixen: This Culpepper is a classic. Blythe and Tristan, the Marquis Leventhorpe have knocked heads in the past...In fact she doesn't like him one bit. Except when he is charming, smells good and dresses so nicely! Which is 95 percent of the time. Blythe fights the attraction and Tristan does his best not to have any emotions. He is still haunted by the past. One particular nightmare keeps rearing its ugly head and Tristan is desperate to keep it hidden from Blythe. Why simply because to him she is perfection and he fears she will think him even lower than a snake. When the past finally makes it appearance Blythe is there to protect him but inadvertently causes a bit of an uproar. One she is sure she can get out of but really doesn't want to. She knows Tristan and for some reason wants to protect him. What Tristan fears most has now been outed and he is not so upset and willing to see Blythe rescue him. Even if it costs him his freedom (bachelorhood) ...he is all for it!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading these 3 books. The humour, which had me laugh out loud, something not too many authors can achieve, the romance and the mystery made for a very relaxing and enjoyable read. Before I was finished I was checking to see what other books I could read. The characters where well developed and associated with each other very well. You felt for the girls, they were strong willed and yet graceful in their hard situations. The hero’s were warm and kind hearted but had a strength you could rely on. Each book can be read as a stand alone but it was much nicer to read them in order and once you have read the first you will want to read the rest. I am looking forward and not waiting patiently for the twins story to come. I am sure they will be up to no good, making it another very enjoyable read. "I was gifted a copy of this book write this on all Collettes books.
I love these three books. They will definitely be on my read-again list. All of the 5 sisters/cousins are feisty, intelligent beauties attempting to survive the best they can in the world in which they have been abandoned. The characters are likable, lovable and intriguing. Something unexpected happens in each of the books and I love to be surprised. From sad tears to happy tears, they are not your normal run-of-the-mill regency romance stories. Very well done.
