This is a book about chickens, how to keep them, raise them, breed them and love them! It is also a recipe book. Includes over 75 pages of tantalising chicken and egg recipes including soups, basic egg recipes, omelettes, souffles, other main egg dishes, mayonnaise, cakes and desserts.

This has taken me a while, and I haven't read all the recipes at the back yet. I've instead put the book onto my cook book shelf in the kitchen for use as needed. Although not all of what Jackie says makes perfect logical sense to me, I have enjoyed reading her opinions, and relished the force of her personality throughout. It makes reading an information book more of a literary experience this way. I like her passion. She is obviously a feisty, generous-hearted and strongly opinionated person. I'm used to women like that, as they run in our family :-) And she has a decent view of caring for animals with consideration for their quality of life.
I also enjoyed her straight talking instructions. I finished off my read this morning with 'how to kill a chook' and 'how to clean a chook'. I made a note of the page on how to make a quill pen. Since all of our chooks are our friends, I don't think we'll be eating any of them, so the quill pen may be made from the feather of another animal, but it's all interesting information.
Plenty of helpful information in here about chooks, and how to use their meat and eggs. Have tried a few of the recipes and they’ve all turned out great. Coronation chicken with homemade mayo on a sandwich for lunch, yummo.
Lovely book, Jackie French is the best. But I was expecting more about looking after Chooks and less about cooking them. But still am pleased to have the recipes, especially all the egg ones.
A lovely fun little read on raising chickens. I was expecting more on looking after chooks but the recipe section was the bigger portion of the book. Amazing recipes!
