His Christmas Virgin sort of has that 'A Christmas Carol' vibe. That's a good thing because I love 'A Christmas Carol.' Jonas is sort of a modern-day, toned down Scrooge. He has divorced himself from emotional relationships because of his parents' horrible marriage, and how it affected him. While Mac is an artists, she shatters the stereotype that all artists are bohemian in their morals. In fact, hers are rather old-fashioned. She doesn't believe in sex without love. She is close to her family and embraces the commitments of family. While Jonas tells himself he needs to stay away from Mac and doesn't want to be bothered with her, he continually finds himself in her sphere, falling deeper and deeper for him. Mac doesn't like Jonas' attitude towards relationships, and finds him rather brisk and hard to like, but he is an intensely attractive, appealing man who 'does' it for her. Love breaks through all their barriers and causes both to risk their hearts to each other.
Mortimer wrote a story that is passionate and romantic, and with a modern feel. Never is there a doubt that Mac is a modern woman. She is just a modern woman who doesn't believe in casual sex, and had good reasons for her virginity. She finds it nothing to be ashamed of. While Jonas is quite uncharitable to her in that regard, I felt that he was making a last ditch effort to wiggle out of the trap of his feelings for her, and using that for an excuse, knowing she won't settle for just his physical body and not all of him. He falls in love while he doesn't believe in such a thing. I liked that each person stayed true to who they were, but also realized that being locked into a certain mindset can limit ones' possibilities. When they come together at the end, it feels right and felt very romantic.
His Christmas Virgin was a pleasant and fairly quick read. Definitely what I needed for this time of year when things are so hectic.
I felt this one was more like 2000's than 2010, there weren't cellphones. But anyway, the plot was simple, there wasn't that much drama and I wasn't fool for a second about the mysterious vandalism. Had its good and bad moments but nothing too remarkable.
A light holiday christmas romance that was both hot and funny at the same time.
The bitter but handsome business tyccon Jonas Buchanan and the optimistic and lovely painter Mary Mac McGuire love-story starts off with them hating each other...all the while they soon and instantly will fall in love against their will.
I LOVE THIS DELICIOUS BOOK,and i could easily re-read it any time.
A sweet holiday story. The h is an artist who lives in a warehouse on prime property. The H is a developer that wants to convert the warehouses into upscale apartments.
The h refuses to sell. The H goes to meet her personally and there is an instant attraction. The h and H are seriously hot for each other but the h is a virgin and the H doesn’t do virgins. They mess around a bit, it’s all sexy, but there’s no consummation.
This was a quick, enjoyable read. My only complaint is that the h appears to give up her warehouse waaay too easily once the H professes his love for her. She spent the entire book fighting him on buying her warehouse to just give in cause he said he loved her. I did not like!
oh my goodness i never thought i would get through this book i cried 3 times...cause all the did was argue and torment each other...and then it was heat and then it stopped...like come on with it....and he held a grudge because his parents had a crappy life and thats why he didnt want to love a woman and just have his way with a woman sexually without strings attached...and she told him to go and see his parents and tell them how he felt...and then he was seeing them all along after the 2 weeks him and her were seeing each other...that was a tease...but she went home to her families home for christmas and opened up the door to go to christmas eve mass...and he was standing at her door...and then the last few sentences is what got me..."WILL YOU MARRY ME?" oh my god i knew it...im hooked on Carole's books and can't wait to read more...WTG Carole...
Mary's house-studio sounds amazing! Each wall decorated with a theme related to each season, it could be awesome. Regardless, this book was a nice story to read but not my favorite by Carole Mortimer. I liked both English and Greek editions.
This book is a mess from beginning to end. Not only was there poor continuity in the writing but the author vastly over used exclamation points making it seems as if every other sentence was being yelled. Mac and Jonas are the two main characters and for the most part really the only characters in the book. I thought when I first started reading there was some potential, Jonas' back story really could have gone somewhere but it was just glossed over.
There was no emotion between the characters, even the "fighting" just seemed like bickering and not foreplay or sexual tension. At one point I thought there was only lust developing between the two but I wouldn't even call it that now. There is no real character development, no emotions behind any action, very little thought going on in either of the characters' heads.
I picked this book because it's Christmas time and by it's title I thought it would be a Christmas romance novel. It really wasn't. Very little mention of Christmas at all. I wondered if that author had written it then the publisher came to her and said "hey we need a Christmas book from you, change what you need to to make this Christmas" and that's what she did. There is no description of Christmas, no weather, no shopping, lights, etc. As for the Virgin part of the title from what I can tell at the end of the book the character is still a virgin though they do enjoy oral once and call that "love making" and "sex". I even read that passage three times to make sure I didn't miss a sentence or something implying that they actually had sex.
Also I'm really tired of authors like this one writing first class Alpha a-holes instead of Alpha males. Ms. Mortimer just made Jonas come off as a complete jerk when she really could have worked with his back story and developed much more of a character. The heroine tells the hero she wants more than just a physical relationship and he tells her no so she says then she doesn't want anything from him. But he keep pursuing just a physical side of things knowing he can coax her into being intimate because there is a physical attraction. Total jerk move. Then he treats her like garbage when he finds out she's still a virgin.
So overall poor writing, poor punctuation, poor story, poor character development, poor execution over all. Two thumbs down and a note to self not to read with author again.
I found this novel as dull as dishwater. Nothing really memorable happened in the novel and it just seemed like such a rush job. None of th emotions were there for me.
I liked some elements of this such as the central conflict (he wants to buy her home so he can build apartments, she does not want to sell). The ending felt a little rushed and perfect. Did not appreciate how often the man would repeatedly ignore her verbal rejections/demands to stop. If the author meant to indicate that the woman wanted him to keep violating her boundaries then she failed to do so.
It was a pretty decent story. Loved Jonas and the interplay between him and Mac. It was fun to read the sparks that flew everytime they both were in the same orbit.
Jonas Buchanan is a hard-hearted businessman bent on acquiring the warehouse owned by reclusive artist Mary "Mac" McGuire so he can tear it down and put up an expensive apartment block. Meanwhile, Mac is just as ardently determined to keep this building which has been in her family for generations and where she lives and paints. After attempts by his staff to get her to sell fail, Jonas approaches her himself and two strong-willed people strike sparks off each other. When her studio was broken into while Mac was attending a gallery exhibit of her paintings, she is infuriated that Jonas sends over his own glazer to fix her window. The high-handedness of the man! After more attacks on her property occur, he insists that she stay at his utilitarian flat until the perpetrator is caught. When one thing leads to another and they end up in bed, Jonas in appalled to discover that Mac is still a virgin and flees. With Christmas approaching, can anything be done to bring these two seemingly star-crossed lovers together?
Sadly, this isn't one of this authors best works. Still, all the elements of romance are there. The h and H are two strong-willed people coming from diverse backgrounds who despite their efforts to avoid any romantic involvement, fell in love with each other.
Jonas Buchanan is a man renowned for being arrogant and seemingly emotionless, both in business and in his private life. He never combines work and pleasure, and steers clear of any woman who doesn't play by his rules…. Rule 1: He doesn't bed virgins.
Rule 2: He doesn't do Christmas.
Mary "Mac" McGuire loves the festive season, and she's as pure as the snow falling outside Jonas's window. But by Christmas Day she might well have Jonas breaking every rule in his book!
Pretty darn ordinary and not real memorable. Nothing stood out at all. I was really hoping for more from this author but I think her older stuff is much stronger. The hero's turn around at the end was pretty unbelievable.
Didn't actually read the whole thing. Lost interest after the first few chapters and skipped to the end. Characters not consistent or at least well developed.
