Izzy Lewis Mysteries #2

Double Trouble in Iowa

Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author Wendy Byrne comes a murder in a small town with big consequences...

Amateur sleuth and artist Izzy Lewis’ life is getting more complicated by the moment. First, she has to deal with an ex husband she thought she'd left in the rearview mirror. Then, she happens to discover a dead body while unpacking for a local quilt show. Now, the suspect in the murder is asking for her help in proving his innocence. Talk about a troublesome trifecta!

Despite the fact the accused is an ex-con, Izzy believes in his innocence and suspects the local detective is railroading the guy for personal reasons. With the help of the Qs—her Jessica Fletcher–wannabe band of seniors—Izzy sets out to uncover the truth. But with her budding relationship with her hot new neighbor on thin ice and a hyper-vigilant detective watching her every move, Izzy finds herself treading a thin line between sleuth and suspect. Can she catch a small-town murderer...or will Izzy be the victim of double trouble in Iowa?

Wendy has a Masters in Social Work and worked in the child welfare field for twelve years before she decided to pursue her dream of writing.

Between teaching college classes, trying to get her morbidly obese cat to slim down, and tempering the will of her five-year-old granddaughter, who's determined to become a witch when she turns six so she can fly on her broom to see the Eiffel Tower and put hexes on people—not necessarily in that order—somehow Wendy still manages to fit in writing. She spends the remainder of her days inflicting mayhem on her hero and heroine until they beg for mercy.

This was a cute mystery featuring Izzy Lewis and her 'posse' of octogenarian quilters who love to help her solve mysteries. When she finds a dead body as she is setting up for a quilt show, all of her friends pitch in to help her solve the mystery.

Another wonderful book starring Izzy and the Q's. These ladies can get in trouble faster than anyone. When Izzy finds a body in the back of a moving van, nothing can keep them from putting their noses into police business. I found this to be an exhilarating book that held my attention from beginning to end. The author kept everything flowing at a fast pace.

I didn't like the first one much, but had to finish this for a reading challenge. I resent the way she portrays Iowans. Not even a redeemable bumpkin sort of warmness, like Fannie Flagg or Garison Keilor...just bad stereotypes, biker bars and too much hairspray. There are a couple of gay artists in the college town, thrown in for diversity. All the characters are incompetent, except those who lived or studied out of state.

"Not to be a snob, but it's hard to compare community theater in Iowa with Broadway." Only a snob would try. I've been to community theater in New York...it is comparable to community theater anywhere... a rare spark of talent in a lot of "Bless Your Heart."
"It was ...popular at one time...maybe about forty years ago. I rest my case about Iowa versus New York." (p43)

"Gabe pulled up to a small nondescript place in the middle of nowhere. Then again, it seemed like everything in Iowa was in the middle of nowhere, so I shouldn't have been surprised." (p80)

Double Trouble in Iowa

Izzy Lewis is a walking magnet that brings trouble and dead bodies! She has discovered another body on her way to the quilt show with the Q's, a group of over 80 quilters. These ladies love a mystery and are followers of Murder She Wrote!
Wendy Byrne has written a great mystery that was hard to figure out from all the antics and comedy. Love this book!

The body in the box

A good solid read but really wasn't as funny as I expected. A death, a ex-husband, seniors who think they are Jessica Fletcher and a man accused of murder who she thinks is innocent. Watch as she ploughs through the clues and suspects to get to the truth. The characters are good but the seniors could have been funnier and the plot could have used a bit of tightening up in places. However all in all a good solid read.

Outstanding

WOW this really had some interesting twists. I totally didn't expect the outcome involving Joseph and the wine to be what it was. I was completely shocked by who the killer was. I had no idea who it could be.

Enjoyable read with lots of quirky characters. There are two storylines in this book and I enjoyed that. I did find the one a bit abrupt of a conclusion but did appreciate how all the different events were connected to this investigation vs the one of the murder. I think because I read the book over a period of time I did have trouble following who all the characters were especially the suspects. Overall it is a fun series so far

Izzy and the Qs are back and on their way to a quilt show that Izzy was in charge of setting up in a town called Winterset, Iowa. If the car ride wasn't enough to do Izzy in (because of the Qs all talking non-stop in rather loud voices) then the start to setting up the show certainly did the job. When Izzy began unpacking quilts in the trailer behind the show facility, she came across a body of a woman in one of the boxes. As she was panicking, the foreman of the work team (Gus) got back from lunch and calmed her down. When he looked at the lady it was his turn to panic. After explaining to Izzy that he was a felon on parole, he ran off saying he couldn't be around this because he would be put back in jail.

What happens next involves a not very pleasant police chief, Gus asking for her help, the Qs going full Jessica Fletcher, a surprise appearance by Izzy's ex (Joseph) and more. Fun and crime solving with the Qs is never dull! Things have a way of getting out of hand and Izzy gets stuck in some pretty tight spots before it's all over.

This is a fun book, a fast read and lots of chuckles. Izzy and the Qs are such loveable characters that you root for them and their crazy ideas.

Izzy (Isabell Lewis) is hired as a Quilt Show artistic director from the nearby town of Winterset, Iowa. While looking for more display racks, Izzy discovers the body of a young lady wrapped up in a carpet. Gus, the person last seen arguing with the deceased, and on probation for murder of his ex-wife is the prime suspect. Problem is, Izzy doesn't believe he is guilty. So she and the Q's start their own investigation. To make matters even more complicated. Joseph, her wealthy ex-husband shows up looking for the bottles of expensive wine Izzy took due to the horrible pre-nup she had been coerced to sign, claiming it was a matter of life and death, while at the same time, he was trying to have the divorce decree modified as Izzy had come into some money from her father.
Wendy Byrne wrote a fun story that has well developed characters, along with lots of action and plenty of hi-jinx from the the octogenerian Q's.

Izzy is curating a quilt show in Winterset when she discovers a body in a box on the loading dock where she is to receive pieces for the show. She calls the cops but investigates on her own when she is afraid the cops will look at an ex-con only. The Q's get involved also especially when a second mystery involving Izzy's ex-husband occurs at the same time. Will she solve the first murder before the murderer comes after her? What does her ex want?

I had a good time with this one. I did not figure out who did the first murder. Izzy almost didn't either. Her ex is a sleaze. What she ever saw in him is a mystery! She does figure out why he comes to Iowa. Gabe and Izzy are a little on again-off again, but he does come to her rescue. I like Gabe but he is a little strait-laced when dealing with Izzy. I liked that Izzy does tell Nate about her ex and takes his advice somewhat on the murder.

I look forward to the next book.

Izzy and the Q's have two mysteries to solve this time around. I found this story to be very entertaining, fast-paced, full of action, heart-racing situations and even some laugh-out-loud humorous times. This crew is very determined and eager, to the point of endangering themselves, to prove who dunnit.

Izzy is at it again, with our trying she finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation. The police are quick to point a finger but Izzy is sure they have the wrong suspect. The Q's are all to quick to volunteer to help solve the case.
Double Trouble in Iowa is the second book in the Izzy Lewis Mystery series. It can be read as a standalone, but is enhanced when you read it after the first book in the serie
