An author, musician, counseling psychologist, and animal rights activist, Dariel writes interracial/multicultural paranormal romance and dark urban fantasy featuring shifters, Nephilim, angels, and reluctant demons, all filled with action, alpha heroes, and strong heroines. This is a creative story that quickly drew me in and kept me turning the pages. The story is tightly woven, with complex characters, and an intriguing storyline. There is a little of something for everyone in the story. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

I received an eArc courtesy of the Author in exchange for my honest opinion.

Dariel Raye is a fairly new author to me, as this is the second time I am reading her work. I was impressed by her writing style and her character development in Dai's Dark Valentine, therefore, when I was asked to read and review Calm Assurance I did not hesitate.

When I hear the term calm the first word that comes to mind is composed. The male protagonist, Asriel was the embodiment of this term. He was sent to earth to provide assurance to the female protagonist, Malina that she would be safe no matter what.

Asriel is an Orlosia warrior. He is a descendant of the Nephilim and a law enforcer among his kind. He was assigned the task of guarding Malina Tarver. However, he felt he had better things to do than babysitting troublesome human beings. In addition, he had no wish for history to repeat itself. However, he had no choice in the matter, for when the Orlosian council speaks, one has no choice but to obey.

Malina Tarver had dreams of meeting a man who was interested in her for more than sex. She was a magnet for trouble wherever she went. Currently, she is facing problems at work. However, she did not want to disappoint her brothers, as such she was determined to stand her ground. She blames herself for the death of her adoptive parents. Since then she has tried to make amends the way she thought was best.

From the moment, Asriel laid eyes on Malina, he knew there was more to her than what met the eyes. The feelings she stirred within him was none like he ever felt before. It made him question his loyalty to the Orlosian rules. Will he allow his feelings for Malina to take precedence over the rules he had spent his entire life obeying?

The development of the characters was as I expected. Ms. Raye provided sufficient background information making it easy for her readers to understand what drove her characters. I understood the turmoil that Asriel faced. Making a choice is never easy, especially when you have to choose between the known and the unknown. Malina's feelings jumped off the pages of the book. I felt her frustration, her pain, and her desires.

Calm Assurance has a unique plot. It was an exciting read as I had no idea what was going to happen next. This fast-paced read is filled with romance, suspense and drama will have you glued to its pages until the very end. While reading, several questions arose which the author addressed to my satisfaction.

If you love stories that feature a strong heroine and a badass hero, then you will enjoy Calm Assurance. This is a must read for fans of paranormal romance.

Nephilim are thought to have disappeared from the Earth at the time of the Great Flood, but in reality some of them escaped to another dimension. Unfortunately, the majority of the Nephilim women were killed in the flood and the ration of Nephilim men to women is now 500:1, meaning very few Nephilim men are able to love, to marry and to experience the joy of a family. In Calm Assurance: Orlosian Warriors Bk.1 we meet Asriel, a Nephilim warrior whose job it has been to travel to earth and render justice to those Angels who have forsaken the brotherhood to seek solace and love with a human woman. Author Dariel Raye takes us to a world where these “fallen” Nephilim warriors are stripped of their light and their immunity to earth’s diseases, which forces them to live as vampires, stuck in the darkness and requiring human blood to give them the antigens to survive on Earth. When Asriel is sent to Earth to be a “watcher” rather than a “seeker”, assigned to protect Malina, he instantly realises there is a soul-bond between them and understands that decisions will have to be made that will decide both hers and his future.

Calm Assurance: Orlosian Warriors Bk.1 is a clever attempt by author Dariel Raye to tell a vampire story from a totally different perspective and I admired it for that reason alone. The plot and the premise are fascinating and the two principal characters Asriel and Malina are complicated and intriguing. I thought the author handled the love scenes with care and consideration, making them hot, racy and exciting without crossing that line from erotic into smut. I loved the idea of a strong, independent and fiercely protective woman whose defences and walls she had built up over a lifetime totally crumbled once she was in the presence of her soul-mate. Equally, Asriel’s character who knew very early on that nothing was going to change the fact that Malina was the one destined for him and no matter what it cost him personally, he was going to protect and love her. If fantasy or paranormal romance is your thing and you fancy a different take on the vampire genre, I can highly recommend this story. It was a little too short, perhaps for my usual liking but the promise of more in this series, certainly kept me satisfied and I can only pay the author the compliment of remarking that I want to read more of this premise.

I got this book as the whole set on my kindle and am pretty disappointed in it. The story itself is actually pretty interesting but the writing is not good. I should’ve known from the start when the blurb in the beginning of the book described the FMC as a “trouble magnet” three times in just two paragraphs. There’s not much development in terms of plot. There’s moments where the character suddenly jumps to a completely different setting with no transition. It’s as if someone wrote and outline for the book and just published that. I almost didn’t finish it and it was only 150 pages on my kindle.

This is the first book in the Orlosian Warriors series and it was so good! I have recently read a few books by Dariel Raye (Dark Sentinels series, which is awesome). So, I wanted to check out her other series! Even though I don't normally read books about angels, cause I'm a demon girl myself, I found myself really enjoying this book!

Asriel is a Nephilim warrior who was reassigned as a Watcher to protect someone close to Malina, a girl who can see things no one else can. I was instantly intrigued within the first chapter when Asriel spotted that Malina had a run in with minions and it seemed like she could see them, but he didn't know why. Smells like a mystery to me, so I was hooked!

THEN, Asriel and Malina seem to have a fated connection to each other, that I found super cute. Also, I love how Malina is the one to "take charge" in the relationship and Asriel is the one who holds back.

Overall, it's such a cute story that I genuinely enjoyed reading.

*I did receive a free arc copy for my honest review.

This is a unique story and one I havent come across before and thats a good thing! Melina is desperate to change her spots so to speak. She's always into some trouble and feels immense guilt over the death of her adoptive parents. She feels like a failure and never one to follow rules she tries to make things right in her own way. Asriel is sent to earth to "babysit" a human which he's just not happy about. He's got his own problems but when he sees her things change. He's drawn to her but keeps his distance because well he's got a job to do. They have to figure out why things are happening as they are and working together brings them closer but he pulls back. Can these 2 find common ground and find out whats going on? Are they doomed to remain apart or will Asriel risk it all? It comes with sacrifice on both parts.

I really enjoyed this. New and different and definitely kept me on my toes. Lots of secrets and unknowns I recommend!

I stopped reading the moment he became a toxic, controlling and violent asshole. The second he decided she was his, after rejecting and hurting her, he forces her out of the stage at the "gentleman club" she's WORKING, everyone working there is (naturally) concerned, and he proceeds to threaten them, physically assaulting the guards. And don’t forget the demeaning of the dancers just because they work there. Yeah, I don't want to read about this guy. FMC was OK up to this point, when she just does whatever the hell he asks, without questioning; and there was a sentence there that made me think she was actually afraid of him. The story wasn't all that interesting to begin with, and the writing leaves a lot to be desired.

Why is Orlosian warrior Asriel charged with the safety of a human by the name of Malina Tarver? He's not happy about it even though he feels an attraction towards her and she feels one to him also. But there is something that Asriel must protect Malina and he has no idea why they are after her. He is determined to find out why and do everything he can do to keep her safe. At first there are a lot of characters to keep track of , but as I kept reading I understood it better. Even though I have never read a book like this before , I did enjoy it and will be reading more from this author.

Calm Assurance by Dariel Raye is anything but calm. This book is a veritable roller coaster ride of feeling, guilt, good, bad and romance. Aseril is a warrior sent from the heavens to watch over Melina and keep her safe. Melina has had dreams since she was little and she thinks she is going crazy. With this premise you might think this book would be confusing but these characters draw you in and you will not want to put it down. Character development is exceptional. The storyline is full of twists and turns and truly keeps you quessing. You cannot wait to see what happens next and will Melina and Aseril survive.

Overall rating: 4.3

A beautiful cover with a great blurb to spark interest, this tale was entertaining. A bit wordy in places, nevertheless my curiosity kept me reading. The fated couple played their star crossed roles well and I enjoyed that Malina was not materialistic. Malina truly felt grounded and real. The storyline is captivating and I believe to will hook you in effortlessly! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.

I normally do not give books 1 star but this book just didn't match up to the expectations. The main female character wants to be loved but also doesn't want to be told what to do. The male main character never wanted love but when he does he is possessive. To the point of being stalkery. The book ended with no explanation, no talk of another, and it was too predictable. I have the set but am unsure of continuing.

This book was incredibly fast paced and crammed a ton of world building into 160 pages. The relationship between the two characters felt really rushed and unrealistic, with the fmc being pushy and the mc hiding so many things from her that she just accepted when he finally told her. The single sex scene was odd, no explanation for his vibrating appendage. Not a single character was livable except the dogs. I got this box set for free and don’t wanna finish them

Asriel has been assigned to guard Malina. Malina seems to know that evil follows her as well as a savior. How can a law-abiding Nephilim and a human with a magnet for trouble be perfect for each other? Trouble always needs correction.

The idea was good, but the book read like one long train of thought rather than a book. The chapters were weird, there were time skips without there even being a paragraph break. If the book were edited (or edited better) it would be a better read.

#TeamAsriel

Destiny and Fate meet Strength and Passion and meld into a first-rate read!

All Malina Tarver wants is a normal life. Since long before she lost her adoptive parents, she’s always been in some kind of trouble. Not one to follow rules, Malina drifts from job to job, surviving with help from her two older brothers. Tired of being the family screw-up, Malina is determined to make her latest job work…if she can just avoid her boss’ creepy, married son and not get attacked again by those shadowy demon-things. All she wants is to be able to take care of herself…and get her Nana out of that horrid nursing home.

Orlosian warrior Asriel cannot be bothered…with anything. He’s feeling disoriented and unfocused and he needs to find out why. He has no time to be sent to Earth to babysit a HUMAN, of all things. And besides, the last time he was on Earth, there was that…thing…and it cost a lot of lives. He’s in no hurry for a replay. However, the Council has spoken and Asriel is indeed sent to Earth to watch over Malina until she makes contact with a mystery man.

As Asriel arrives to Earth, Malina is harassed by her boss’ son, attacked by demons…and finds a puppy…all in the same evening! She also senses Asriel’s presence – something she shouldn’t be able to do. Asriel is also puzzled as he is helplessly drawn to the human female – something else that has never happened before.

Calm Assurance contains several mysteries and many secrets. Who is Asriel and where is he from? Why are demons after Malina? Who pulled a teenage Malina from her burning home? Who was Malina’s father, and what is her grandmother hiding? Who is Joseph Ward and what does the Council want with him? And…who/what is Malina?

Malina and Asriel have to work together to figure out her significance to the Council, and it will not be easy. The closer Malina gets to Asriel, the more he pulls away. To be with her means he’ll become one of the Fallen, and the only way he can survive…is to drink her blood.

Tightly written, detailed story that draws you right in! Asriel is the consummate alpha male – without all the arrogance and chest beating. #TeamAsriel Malina is a jewel! Strong and determined, she has no time for tears, whining or running. She wants to know who she is…and what she is. And she wants Asriel. A must read for all paranormal lovers, especially fans of Nephilims.

Bring on book 2!

It is with great pleasure that I write this review for Calm Assurance, which I received as a gift in exchange for an honest review. A story that encompasses love and war, longing and living, as well as searching and suffering. There is more to this story than the story itself; there are dreams, hopes, and desires. And endless lengths that are spanned for loved ones.

After years of being the "trouble" in the family, all Malina wanted was to do something right - to do something her family could and would be proud of. The thing Malina wanted most was to get her grandmother out of the horrible nursing home she was in and was willing to do nearly anything to accomplish that task. But at the same time she wanted to make her brothers proud of her, feeling guilty for so many years that their parents were murdered while she was upstairs pouting after a disagreement.

Malina had recently started a new job that her brother pulled many strings to get her and was living in an apartment with her friend. One night on Malina's way home she rescued a puppy from the road and upon her trip to the pet store to get supplies she ran into the most breathtaking man she'd ever seen. Asriel and Malina had instant chemistry, something neither were expecting. Malina insisted Asriel take her number and call her, not wanting him to be just a passing memory.

Asriel took the lead and contacted the investment firm Malina worked for, taking her as his point of contact. The relationship between Malina and Asriel intensified rather quickly, especially after an unexpected accident had him taking her in to live with him temporarily so he could care for her. They quickly realized they were made for one another and would do anything to remain together.

Though this sounds like a perfect scenario, with all the dangers they were facing it was not that simple. Minions of evil had it out for them, and their were more evil than they realized lurking in the shadows. Would evil overcome the love between Malina and Asriel, or would the light overtake the dark? Would Malina ever be able to accomplish her goal of getting her grandmother out of the nursing home? What did their futures hold?

A great story with a different vision than many you read today. The battles waged deepen the passion that abounds. A read that is well worth your time.

Life is being life at the moment. All hard work and very little fun, so I was glad to pick up a book and read for the pleasure of it. I'd never read this author before but the premise of the story grabbed my attention:
A straight-laced Nephilim-descendant and a human trouble-magnet?
I said bring it on!

Let's start with the straight-laced Nephilim, Asriel. The man or rather descendant of fallen angels, if you want to be specific hasn't got time for humans. He certainly doesn't want to have to babysit (guard) one, especially since the last time he was on earth something happened. But, he has no option but to go and do his job.
So he turns up and the woman, Malina, who is supposed to lead him to his charge attracts his attention in more ways than he can explain. The first time he sees her, he has to come to her rescue.

Malina is determined to sort her life and keep on the right track but she is a woman who seems to attract trouble. Her boss's son is gradually turning into a stalker and there are strange minion creatures ambushing her.
There are so many unanswered questions about her life and when Asriel turns up, and she feels a connection to him , she wants to know everything she can about him.
But of course he is caught between obeying the rules that govern who he is and opening his heart and showing his feelings to Malina.

This is a lovely story. The mystery surrounding Asriel and Malina kept me turning the pages and the romance between Asriel and Malina was sweet and I wanted to know if Asriel would truly 'fall'.

If you enjoy paranormal romance, especially about fallen angels, then you should check this out.

Honestly, I am incredibly picky when it comes to paranormal fiction, and more so where Nephilim are concerned.  There are hundreds of different myths and legends behind pretty much all paranormal creatures and every author latches on to elements of different ones when they're bringing stories to life.  There are vampire myths that I prefer, werewolf myths that I prefer, and, of course, Nephilim myths that I prefer.  My personal favorite Nephilim backstory is the one that Cassandra Clare uses, but that doesn't mean I can't respect and like stories based on different versions of Nephilim!

I was a bit surprised by how readily taken in I was with this story.  I pretty much fell in love with Asriel from the start.  What really drew me in, though, was the writing style.  Reading this book felt so natural that I read half of it before I ever put it down.  The next half was much the same.  Basically, I couldn't get enough of the writing style, the character dynamics, and the story itself.  I love the way that so many details are woven into the intricate pasts of these characters.  Clearly, not a single character in this story (and probably in the series to follow) exists simply to fill a void.  They all have a fully developed history, personality, and reason for being.  Personally, that is one of my favorite parts of this book.  Reading the author's bio, I suspect that her background in psychology comes into play here.  (I have a degree in psychology and have completed Master's coursework on the same subject, which is part of why I am basically obsessed with how a character's history plays into their thought processes and lifestyle...)  I can't wait to learn more about other characters as this series continues!

I normally don't do angel books either, they go with the vamper section, but again, this set of stories has hit all the exceptions to my rules. LOL Even though it's usually predictable, it really wasn't. This girl was like bad luck on top of bad luck. She made some of her messes but some she just couldn't catch a break. And you know, there's always a hawt guy around the corner at a pet shop hahah I shouldn't joke.

Malina is the black sheep in her family, all she wanted was to do something good, right. She wanted to take her grandmother out of the nursing home. Since her parents were murdered, her brothers rely on her as well, so she was in a predicament. She recently got a job through her brother, basically he called in many favors for this job for her. She an her friend got an apartment. She rescued a puppy. LOL See, she's trying to be good. Until she meets Asriel. He's freaking amazing, at least to her, but she has no idea what's really in store here.

Asriel takes initiative and gets Malina's firm to give her his whole contact file. The begin not just a professional relationship but a romantic one, intensely, and it goes from there. He cared for her when she had an accident. He needs to be with her. She seems to want to be with him. And they will do a lot to be together. But there's some seriously bad things around them, after them.

The writing was well done. The suspense kept me on my toes. I was surprised a few times as well. So with that said, I look forward to the next book to see what's going to happen now! 4.5 PAWS!!

IR Nephilim Romance 3.5 stars

Asriel is an Orlosian warrior sent from another dimension to protect Malina Tarver on Earth. All along, we note that there is something unique about Malina, and a secret why she’s given a protector. Enemies of Asriel want her destroyed. Asriel and Malina feel the attraction between them, but Asriel knows the cost to himself if he acts on it, as it’s forbidden by the Council. He can’t deny the fact Malina is his true mate and life spirit. As a warrior, the life in his dimension lacks warmth and affection, allowing no chance for love to assuage his ever-present loneliness.

Calm Assurance is the first book in the Orlosian Warrior series. Ms Raye writes a steady paced and engrossing paranormal tale with imaginative detail. She’s provided sufficient background on Malina and Asriel which brings the story to full circle. The characters are well drawn in an imaginative story with a twist. Secondary characters, like Malina’s grandmother and Sabriel, Asriel’s brothers, and mother added depth to this short story. Perhaps we will find out more in the next book of this series. Recommended for those that enjoy IR paranormal stories.

A New Species is Born

Furious about being forced to leave his home on Orlos and come to Earth and watch over a mere human, Asriel is unpleasantly surprised when he feels drawn to the woman he is sent to watch. The moment he sees Malina, the annoying restlessness he has felt for years dissipates.
Malina's whole life seems to be a string of tragedies, mishaps and bad luck. By the time she meets Asriel, the most important thing to her is to do something worthwhile with her life and make up for some of those tragedies, including the death of her parents.
Asriel's fear of falling (to Hell, that is) and causing more lives to be lost keep his logic at odds with his developing feelings for Malina, and she quickly becomes frustrated by his reticence and reluctance to allow her to get to know him better.
The addition of minions, demons, and a well-developed cast of supporting characters, enemies, friends, and some the jury is still debating, make this a movie-quality story. I read this story and book two back to back, so I will stop here to avoid spoilers. I must say though, that this series will not disappoint fans of otherworldly super powers filled with passion, flaws, and mystery. Don't miss this one!

I really enjoyed reading this book. This genre does not fall into my normal reading genres, but it was recommended to me and I wanted to give it a try. Sometimes you get a very pleasant surprise when you reach outside of your box.
I was quickly drawn into the story of Asriel and Malina. Malina has always known she was a little different, seeing and sensing things that others did not. Asriel is a Nephilim descendant and warrior who isn't sure why he is leaving his dimension to protect Malina. But he soon learns that his isn't the only attention she has drawn. Will his enemies stop at nothing to destroy him or will he destroy himself first? For there are consequences to choosing to leave his world behind to find love...
