Tracy Duval has spent her life proving women can play hockey. From leading her college team to coaching little girls, she’s been a champion of the sport. But when a sexist ad for the Barracuda Fantasy Hockey Camp seems to exclude women, she signs up to teach the boys a lesson.
Retired NHL player Flynn Hammerstrom meets Tracy at the local ice rink and is immediately intrigued. She’s mature, confident, sexy—and hello, she plays hockey. He’s ready to settle down again and, after his tumultuous marriage, he’s looking for a woman who is high on fun and low on drama.
Unfortunately, even though he’s nuts about her, the drama he desperately wants to avoid flares up at the fantasy camp.
And Tracy is smack dab in the middle of the fire.

Good things about this book: 1. The protagonists were closer to middle age 2. The hideous middle age ponytail was cut off 3. The sex scenes were so horrible, I don't know if that's good but I'm listing it anyway.
Enjoyed this one. An intelligent, stubborn, motivated h. A confident, savvy H. Both a little older, more mature, and a little gun-shy about relationships. Really nice to see an older couple.
No cheating. No OW/OM drama. No love triangles. No immaturity or irritating naïve attitudes. Standalone, no cliff-hanger, but fits into Willoughby's larger hockey world. A bit of miscommunication and assumptions made, but characters strong enough to speak up and not blow it all out of proportion.
And I liked that it didn't end in marriage and pregnancy. Been getting that a lot in my novels recently, and it's nice to see that HEA can exist in Romance-land even without babes in arms. Good stable relationship, but not everything revolving around the stereotypical HEA.
Biggest downside? The length. It's a longer novella. Made for a nice, quick read, but at the same time, I was enjoying the characters and would have loved to spend more time with them. Guess that's a good sign to pick up the other books in the series!
(Really liked that they were a little older, did I mention that?).
Falling for Flynn is the first book in the new spin off series Hockey on Tap by Kate Willoughby and since I am a big fan of her In the Zone series I wanted to give Falling for Flynn a try. Falling for Flynn is a little different than her other series, the characters are in there mid to late forties which was a nice change and I can honestly say it’s been a while since I have read about a mature couple.
Tracy Duval is a successful obgyn and coaches girl’s hockey. She might not be in her 20’s anymore but she still has moves on the ice. When she feels that women are excluded from attending the Barracuda Fantasy Hockey camp she decides to give the guys a run for their money and sign up. Before the camp starts she meets her favorite player who now happens to be retired, Flynn Hammerstrom. Flynn and Tracy hit it off right away and start dating but can their new found romance survive all the attention that Tracy is stirring up?
I did like the premise for Falling for Flynn and thought Ms. Willoughby brought depth to her characters. I’m used to reading new adult or about couples in their late 20’s and early thirties so Falling for Flynn was a nice change of pace and I was pleased that Tracy was a strong, independent woman and could really hold her own. Flynn might be a retired NHL player but he had the good sense to become partial owner of a bar and brewery with two other retired teammates. He was no slouch and I did feel the chemistry brewing between them from the beginning.
The story did start off a little on the slow side which actually had me putting it down and picking it back up numerous times in the hopes it would start to really take off but sadly it didn’t until they started the hockey camp. After this I started to enjoy it more and loved seeing how effected Flynn was by Tracy and her skills on the ice. I mean he already knew she was incredible but he loved seeing her out there giving it all she had. Since both had the bond and love for hockey I thought that that’s what really tied them together but overall they gained so much more by dating and getting to know more about one another.
Overall Falling for Flynn was a good start to the Hockey on Tap series that you won’t want to miss, especially if you like silver foxes as much as I do. I am looking forward to reading the second book and learning more about Flynn’s former teammates and business partners.
Falling for Flynn (Hockey on Tap Book 1) by Kate Willoughby Kate Willoughby’s FALLING FOR FLYNN is an excellent start to the Hockey on Tap series and a clever spin-off of the In the Zone series. Former college hockey player and current girls’ hockey coach, Tracy Duval, signs up for the Barracuda Fantasy Hockey Camp to prove that women can play hockey and make a statement against their sexist ads. She captures the attention of retired NHL player, Flynn Hammerstrom. However, after dealing with his ex-wife’s continual crusades, Flynn is not sure if he can deal with the attention Tracy stirs up. This contemporary sports romance takes place in San Diego. It is suitable for adult audiences.
Being in my forties, I appreciated a hockey romance with characters close to my age. I enjoyed both Tracy and Flynn. The two have great personalities and chemistry. I like that Tracy tastefully proves her point. She is a classy individual and good role model for the girls. It is understandable why Flynn was leery with the situation. His ex-wife was a bit extreme. Flynn is a good guy who deserves a second chance at happiness.
I love that Flynn and his former Barracudas line mates Cole Ripley and Slater Jones began a brew pub together. This is an interesting premise to this series. I liked the insights into the business. FALLING FOR FLYNN is a heartfelt and enjoyable read. The story was well-written and believable. I look forward to future stories in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I love Kate Willoughby's hockey romance series In the Zone, so I was pretty excited to see that she had a new spin-off series for me to sink my teeth into.
The first thing that I liked about this book is that the characters are more mature. In their 40's. How awesome is that?! It's nice to read about characters that are closer to my age.
The next thing I liked about it is that Tracy is a hockey player. It's good to see females playing the game. In the book she stands up for women everywhere who love to play hockey. Aaaaand she also coaches a little girls' team. I think it's safe to say that I really liked Tracy.
Now what can I say about Flynn? He's a retired hockey player. The chemistry between Flynn and Tracy is instant. He apparently had IT back in the day and he's still got IT. I instantly also liked Flynn. He's sexy and sweet.
This was a quick read as it is a novella. There was just enough heat and drama to satisfy any reader. I gave Falling For Flynn four steamy lattes. The only reason it didn't get five is because it is a novella. I would've liked more. Please note that that isn't a complaint, it's just my preference. I'm am definitely looking forward to more in this series.
Falling for Flynn is a sweet, fast paced romance with heart. Flynn Hammerstrom, retired NHL player, isn't looking for love when it bumps into him at the rink. Flynn has been working hard on building his brewery business with friends and recovering from a toxic relationship with his ex-wife. Tracy Duval has always took things on with a challenge, whether it was playing college hockey, coaching girls hockey or dealing with sexism in sport. Tracy signs up for the Barracuda Fantasy Hockey Camp to prove a point that women can be included as well but is that too much for Flynn to handle?
Ok let's be honest here... It's refreshing to read a romance novel that isn't set with characters in their 20's, but mature adults who are finding love for a second time sometimes. I adored this couple together and cheered for them throughout the story. Don't get me wrong I wanted to smack Flynn a couple of time to knock some sense into him but that happens with guys from time to time. Tracy is such a strong character and a beautiful role model. 4 Stars for Falling for Flynn by Kate Willoughby

I love hockey romance stories and read tons of them. This one’s a bit different in that not only is it post career (which isn’t unique even if in the minority) but it’s stars are s not older. That’s a first for me but I’m glad I gave it a try as the characters and plot in this novel are just perfect. For the hockey fan, or just for the fan of a fun romance story, this definitely is the book to get.
Falling for Flynn by Kate Willoughby was the first book in the Hockey on Tap series, a spin off from Willoughby's In the Zone series. I'm a huge fan of the series.
Flynn Hammerstrom was a retired NHL player that currently owned a brewery with two of his former line mates. He was recently divorced and not looking for women who liked to be in the middle of controversy or in the headlines.
Tracy Duval was an OBGYN that had played hockey into her college years. She currently coached girls hockey in her off time. She would have pursued hockey further had there been more of an opportunity for a female. Tracy responded to an ad to play hockey with former NHL players in the Baracuda Alumni Fantasy Camp. The ad was targeting only men. Tracy signed on to prove a point and the controversy began.
It was told from a dual POV and Willoughby was detailed, humorous and creative with the storyline. It did, however, have quite a few editing errors; which were primarily extra, missing or incorrect words.
Although enjoyable, it wasn't my favorite book by Willoughby. However, I did love the premise of the series focusing around three forty-ish NHL alumni and their venture, The Hat Trick Brewery and Tasting Room. Falling for Flynn set the stage for the series beautifully. Cole Ripley and Slater Jones will continue the series and I can't wait to see who's next.
Great beginning to a new hockey romance series by Kate Willoughby. I had never read this author before but I will be sure to read her again. Flynn is a former player for the Barracuda hockey team and he agrees to participate in one of their fantasy camps along with a few of his friends. Tracy is a former college hockey player who decides she is going to sign up for the hockey fantasy camp and at the same time make a point with the team that not just men like to play hockey. They meet at the rink, he thinks it's great that she's coming to fantasy camp until he sees the amount of attention she's calling to herself, what is up with that? Are they not going to be able to work this out? I cant wait to read the next book
I really enjoy books that have characters who are a little older. Flynn Hammerstrom is a retired NHL player. He owns a restaurant/brewery in San Francisco with two former teammates. He meets Tracy Duval at the ice rink. She's a coach for a young girls team. He ends up asking her out. Things are going well with them when they hit a minor roadblock. Flynn has a strong reaction to something Tracy does that reminds him of his ex-wife. The issue is quickly resolved. I liked both main characters. It was a positive story with a happily ever after.
I really enjoyed "Falling for Flynn" by Kate Willoughby. This is the first book I've read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. I love the sports theme - especially hockey and I thought this one an interesting new twist from a story line prespective. The fact that the characters were older was a breath of fresh air and had me hooked right from the beginning. Looking forward to continuing on with the next book in the series to see what comes next for this set of characters. Great addition to your book collection. Happy reading...enjoy!
I liked this story concept and thought it felt timely and fresh. Also enjoyed the characters, especially the focus on the "older" main characters - in their 40's, the horror. The hockey aspect felt authentic. What I didn't enjoy as much was the writing style, which read clunky and stilted for me, especially in the character dialog. A lot of he said and she said instead of a natural flow. A few graphic sex scenes, which I'm not as much into these days. In focusing on a retired player, this story is a different twist to the normal hockey romance, and that I like.
In Falling for Flynn, I liked that Tracy and Flynn were in their 40s. I liked that they were individually successful and comfortable with who they were even though they still had doubts. I liked how they had fun. I liked that Tracy was confident and stood up for her beliefs, but I also liked how Flynn responded after his initial reaction. All in all, I liked a lot about the book!
Girl Power + Hockey + Beer = One great story! Tracy is no damsel in distress... strong, independent but not overbearing. Flynn is the right mix of alpha hockey guy and gentlemen... great plot and plot execution... chemistry is on point and love scenes .. whew! Great job Kate!
I enjoyed this story about a retired hockey player. I liked that he and the woman he meets are mature and in their forties. This has an engaging storyline and entertaining characters. Can’t wait to read more in this series.
Tracy is awesome, Flynn is swoony, and this book is just incredible. I love the idea of reading about former players and how they've started a new chapter in their lives. Also loved seeing a glimpse of "current" players from the San Diego series!
Although this was a hetero book, I liked it. (Nice to take a walk on The Wild Side from reading MM.) I loved the strong female characters in this book. YAY!!
My Review: Okay, I've been a fan of Kate Willoughby's hockey series books since she started writing them. But now she's taken on writing about the retired players...heroes my age. Yes! I'm liking this idea...a LOT! And not only is this book about a more mature hockey player hero, but we also have a woman hockey player...YES! I love everything about this premise.
The premise for the series is three retired hockey players now own a bar and brewery. For this particular book the three have decided they will go out for a Fantasy Camp as the talent for the Barracudas. But the camp in its third year has some issues.
Tracy played hockey in college and although she's now an OB/GYN, she still has a hand in hockey as a coach for a female midget team. She's also a huge fan of the Barracudas, although Flynn was her all-time favorite player. With her friend's encouragement, Tracy decides to go out for the fantasy camp...and ends up taking a stand about the female discrimination that's being put out in the advertising about the camp and just some of the Barracuda methods in general. It's not something that Tracy set out to make a stand about, but she owes it to her girls that she coaches to ensure their rights are upheld for their future in hockey.
I liked the book. It's not a super long book...at all...but Tracy and Flynn have the bond of hockey that ties them together. I liked watching their relationship develop and evolve. It was fun to read a book with a couple of more mature MC's. It's even better when the two of them get on the ice...and I loved how watching Tracy play affected Flynn. I liked the bits of hockey we got to see and that even Holly made an appearance in this book. For fans of the normal Barracudas series, this is fun to see a different side to the franchise.
My one complaint and it's a minor one because it's still all kinds of gorgeous...the cover. *sigh* If you're going to make a book with a more mature lead, can't you at least *try* to make the cover model look more mature than 22? The cover is gorgeous and all that, but... that guy is not in his late 40s.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
FALLING FOR FLYNN is the first book in the Hockey On Tap series, which is a spin-off (of sorts) of the In The Zone series, but you don’t have to read that series in order to enjoy this story.
Flynn is a retired Barracuda who owns a bar with his fellow team mates, Cole and Slater, who I assume will get their own books. He’s attending the Fantasy Camp in the hopes of expanding their business and falls in lust with Tracy at first sight. Unfortunately, I was slightly turned off by the description of his hairstyle before he changed it. I’m sorry, but I just can’t find it in me to consider a man sexy when he’s three quarters bald and wears what’s left in a ponytail. I liked Tracy, who’s intelligent and giving; she’s an OB/GYN who spends her spare time coaching a young girls hockey team. After some persuasion from her best friend and business partner, Naomi, she decides to take on the Barracudas and their sexist attitude towards women and hockey. Flynn is her all-time favourite player, and I liked that she didn’t fan-girl all over him when they met, and that she stood up to him when he was being a jackass.
It was refreshing to read a story about a couple finding love in their forties, and I’m looking forward to reading the future books in this series. FALLING FOR FLYNN is told in dual POVs and is a novella, so the story is short and sweet. Personally I wish it had been a bit longer, perhaps including more time spent at the bar and a bit more backstory on Flynn and Tracy.
I didn't think I would like this whole silver fox thing. But Kate is a great fun writer so I went with it. Good choice on my part.
Great start to a new series from Kate it's kind of a spin off from her Barracudas series but you don't need to read that to like this. It's totally stand alone.
It's a super easy read, lots of lovely romance and so little superfluous drama. I really recommend it.
After reading so many books about 20 year olds it's nice to see a book about a couple in their 40's. a successful woman makes waves about women and hockey. Can Flynn take the heat knowing his past may still haunt him?
