Why did I read this??? Oh yes it was on this Marriage on the rocks list in Goodreads and it didn't have any alerts like the SOB aka husband is a cheating douchebag loser and he was just a jerk. The reviews said that this was a laugh a minute book but I didn't laugh once. I didn't see the humor at all. And the end in was just horrid. His young girlfriend had gone back to her husband and now he sees the errors of his ways and wants the h back even though she still was in menopause and unable to have sex. And he wants her, his baby from the affair, which I think is just gross gross gross, and him to be a family. And she does it. Problem I have is first off I hate cheaters, and he will stray again I am positive) and she says oh well you had manopause and I had menopause so we're even. Honestly I don't think he would have gone back to her if the 'ho' he was having the affair with hadn't gone back to her husband. I hated the entire book but I finished it because I am a masochist and I just had to find that lol stuff that people talked about. I never found it. Please be warned. I wish I had been.

This book and the title, besides being sick and disgusting, is also misleading and a disservice. There is menopause, YES. But also, there are treatments. It's repulsive being so careless about a serious thing. Many women suffer a lot in that stage of their life. There's this hashtag they use in my country written in a completely wrong grammar used in completely wrong situations, like this book ; #seje menas.
By Kat “This title is repulsive to me as is the book description and what is revealed in the reviews. Basically, the heroine does not want to have sex because she is menopausal and so her husband of 36 years cheats with a much younger version of her. However, the younger version is married and the heroine's husband gets OW pregnant. When the married OW goes back to her husband the heroine's husband wants her back even though she still refuses to have sex with him. Wonder how long it will take for him to cheat again?
FYI to the author. Studies show that the majority of the women who go through menopause do not lose interest in sex myself included. However, even those who do can still give pleasure to their partners and get help. Apparently, this heroine never even tried. “ By Kat
This book has some real highs and lows. The strongest part is the main character, Lyn, and her growth arc through the first 3/4 or so of the story. The humor is really well done.
The bummers: It's repeated over and over how the heroine went through IVFs, which failed. The problem is she's 55 years old...they never decided to adopt, so she really should have made peace with it by her mid 50s. This story would have been more realistic if she was in her mid 40s and still grappling with it.
The menopause thing really bummed me out. She apparently is in the extreme category of menopausal symptoms. She has ruled out having sex altogether because it's too dry and too painful. They make all sorts of products to deal with this situation. Wouldn't you try everything before deciding to forgo sex altogether - in any form? Any why would you expect your husband to be ok with that?
The husband's affair. Lyn's unwillingness to have sex (of any kind) was a really poor set up to her husband cheating, and in the end was used to excuse it (terrible!). As I mentioned earlier, Lyn had a tremendous character arc of growth. Her husband eventually tries to win her back, which felt like Lyn backsliding into her past self. The reunion felt forced, and the affair was rugswept. The biggest problem I had was how the husband's child was offered as a gift to Lyn of motherhood, when in reality, most women would have trouble raising another woman's child that was conceived during an affair with your husband of 35 years. When you add in the pain of infertility on to the betrayal of infidelity, I fail to see how this child would have helped to rebuild this family rather been a permanent reminder of both the infertility and infidelity. It was a sad ending in my mind. I would much rather have seen Lyn surrounded by her new friends and her companion, Peter, and become a foster mom than take her crappy husband back.

CATCHY TITLE With a title like that it was bound to catch my eye. I oscillated between feeling an affinity with the heroine and then feeling quite frustrated with her and the decisions she made. I’m not sure how she fitted so easily into such a very different group of people, but I had to admire her versatility. A light and easy read with an ending that could have gone either way.
This author is clearly both misogynist and ageist and it’s unfortunate that this is packaged with such a misleading title. It is based on a medically inaccurate foundation (heroine has three options for her sex life: risk cancer, endure serious pain, or become celibate. So it’s built on a false foundation and then appears to be designed to depress older women into taking what they can get.
Don’t read this. Don’t do it to yourself, in particular if you have faced a comparable situation.
Firstly, I would say that I enjoyed reading this book. The premise is good and is followed through very effectively in terms of style and general flow. The diverse range and variety of characters who appear throughout the story make it fulfilling and interesting, and each helps to carry the plot along nicely. It is easy to understand and empathise with the protagonist and her dilemma, but I did, at times, find myself questioning one or two of her decisions, particularly as her character is well developed. Similarly, a couple of events happen which, for me, didn't quite work and seemed there only to aid the development of the story. No spoilers here as reading is very personal, but if you looking for a well written story regarding the events surrounding a woman struggling to come to terms with her life (refer to title!) then I would certainly recommend this book.
Lyn and Neil's bickering about bedroom activities is hilarious. But sometimes, comedy comes with tragedy especially when Lyn finds something devastating in Neil's van. I enjoyed Lyn's journey as she moved to Cornwall and started working in a cafe. Her new friends are a hoot! But there is unfinished business- Lyn and Neil had always wanted a baby and I got a bit of a shock that the storyline went the way it did. Still, those early pages of hilarity and thirty-five years of marriage must have counted for something.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion, and it was a hoot a minute. Lyn cuts up all of Neil’s clothing with her pinking shears before she leaves, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. If you need a good laugh, I definitely recommend No Sex Please, I'm Menopausal!
I found this book to be a very amusing take on menopause and its unfortunate side effects. Lyn has been married to Neil for twenty-nine years and, despite fertility treatment, they have never been able to conceive. Lyn's life revolves around caring for her husband, who she loves very much, and their lovely home. Lyn is going through menopause and suffering from various uncomfortable side affects including hot flushes and a loss of interest in sex, which has become painful and unappealing. Lyn has decided against using hormone replacement therapy as there is cancer in her family and she is concerned about the link between HRT and various cancers. Neil is not understanding and is most unsupportive of her problems.
Neil starts behaving a little strangely and coming home late, but Lyn is not really suspicious until she accidentally discovers a pair of someone else's lacy pink panties in her husband's van. When she confronts him, he confesses that he has been having an affair with a younger woman. Lyn reacts badly and destroys all his clothes before packing up her things and leaving to their holiday cottage by the sea to get away from him and decide on the way forward.
The pair decide to get divorced and Neil moves in with his new girlfriend, giving Lyn the holiday house and their house in Surrey, which she can sent out and earn a living from. Lyn has not worked for many years. Lyn starts painfully rebuilding her life in a new place and trying to find companionship.
The author explores modern platforms like internet dating sites and the threats they pose in an interesting and informed manner. She also introduces the complexities of modern society with all its different and interesting people such as lesbian women, a woman born with the mind of a man who undergoes a sex change, men who have testosterone coming out of their ears and think that all relationships are just about sex, men going through manopause and even and elderly ex-military gent who has never had the time or inclination to marry and is lonely and looking for companionship. I loved all these interesting characters and, while I didn't necessary like all of Lyn's decisions along the way of her rebuilding exercise, I realise that you do have to be true to yourself and that acting out of pity or due to a need for security is not necessarily going to bring any of the involved parties happiness.
The characterization of Neil is intriguing as initially, he is the guy you love to hate with his selfish behaviour and lack of understanding about his wife's circumstances. As the story progresses, the reader realises that there is more to Neil than meets the eye and wonders if he can redeem himself.
A thoroughly enjoyable book that will entertain male and female readers of all ages.
This was so good, I finished it in one sitting, something I rarely do.
But....
What the f--?! That was a giant f-you to the reader at the end!
After all this incredible, wonderful, joyous self-discovery, and engaging with and discovering her true self, finding spirited, lovable friends and overcoming fears and insecurities, after growing strong and independent, confident and secure, we get an ending that is completely out of character for our beloved heroine when she returns to a character who has an 0% believable growth and is completely unsuited to the heroine other than by his mere familiarity...! UGH. Marrying Peter wouldn't have been right either, but why did she NEED to be married to have her joy and life validated in the first place?
I am so disgusted and disappointed and betrayed. It was an amazing story, so fresh and likeable, so relatable with beautifully smooth language and scene delivery, and then, suddenly, it was trash. Unbelievable.
I can't see Lyn being happy day-to-day with her self-centred, dissimilar ex, let alone viewing a child from his affair as a welcome bonus(!!!). No, it was as if the author reversed all her wonderful spiritual awakening to joy and authentic self, sent her back to repressed, social expectations meeting, suburbian, unthinking, conforming Lyn. Because it's easier, because it's familiar. Because it's socially acceptable. Secure.
UGH! I just wanna scream!
(Okay, Turner, because I loved your creation of older, relatable, real characters, and your ability to bring scenes to life and pace a story so engagingly, I will try another one of your tales. Here's to no more INFURIATING haha-fuck-character-growth endings....)

This is the first book I've read by this author but it won't be the last. The characters are easy to relate to and I loved the plot. The book is well written with plenty of laugh out loud moments. It follows Lyn, who has no choice but to come to terms with what's happened and make a fresh start. I thought I knew how it would end but I was wrong. Stevie kept me guessing right until the end. Highly recommended.
Lyn's going through menopause and her husband Neil, is going through manopause. They get divorced, Lyn moves to the coast and starts a new life, but Neil is still in the picture. Loved this book from start to finish.
To me, this is one of those books that keeps you wanting to know more until you reach the very end. Fair warning, don't start at bedtime you won't be able to sleep until you're done.
Parental notice: This book is primarily aimed at middle-aged members of society and has adult language and somewhat explicit sex terms not vulgar but not appropriate for those of younger years.
Lyn is undergoing "the change" and her personal life has hit some rough patches as a result.
Being a woman of a certain age, I could definitely resonate with Lyn and what was happening in her life.
Disclaimer: I was provided this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I voluntarily read this book and the above are my freely provided thoughts.
The characters are great, but not much happens. A fantasy story about a woman whose life falls apart when her husband cheats on her. She starts a new life - great. The ex-returns with a baby he made from his affair, they get back together and live happily ever after - yeah right! Everytime we meet a new character, I was expecting there to be something strange about them, but they all turn out normal. Still, the writer does a great job of portraying them consistently and brings them to life. But nothing else happens.

Hitting that era of life where menopause may become more of a reality than one of those things that might happen in the distant future, I began to read this book with a little more curiosity than usual. Lyn is in the throes of the beginning of menopause. She's all hot flushes and had a No Entry sign firmly placed 'down there', much to the frustration of her husband, Neil. Things come to a head when she discovers he's found ways to lubricate himself, without her assistance. Armed with the keys to what was their holiday home, Lyn ups sticks and moves to Cornwall, to start up her new life. She signs up to a matchmaking site, with 'companionship only - NO SEX' firmly ticked on her profile and proceeds to meet some characters, some of which become longstanding friends, and some, she'd rather not see again. An easy to read book, and I really liked some of the characters, especially gentleman Peter and transexual, Jamie! But, though the ending was very 'happily ever after', part of me wanted her to make a different choice. Still, an enjoyable read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story about Lyn, whose life is turned around after experiencing residual effects of menopause, while her husband Neil seems to be going through a mid-life crisis. Lyn discovers Neil's philandering ways by finding out about his adulterous affair he's having to satisfy his sex drive. This escapade leads to the end of their marriage. Lyn's devastation has her moving away and starting a new life with new adventures, friends and relationships. Meanwhile, 'back at the ranch', Neil learns his newfound freedom and relationship with a younger woman isn't all it's cracked up to be and finds himself pining for his ex wife. The story mirrors real life in many ways - pitfalls in relationships, side effects of menopause, and marriage mishaps. I found myself laughing with Lyn and drawn into her drama and decisions. And although I'm in total disagreement with some of the choices she made at the end of this book, it was her story, not mine, and that didn't change the fact that the story was engaging and well written.
