In his entertaining and informative style, best-selling novelist and teacher Gilbert Morris leads you step-by-step through the process of writing a novel.
Gilbert Morris was one of today's best-known Christian novelists. He lived in Gulf Shores, Alabama, with his wife, Johnnie. He is the father to Lynn Morris and Alan Morris
This is the third time I've read this book, and it continues to be the best I've found on the subject of writing Christian fiction. Dr. Morris published more than two hundred novels and he draws on that broad experience to give us practical exercises for learning the craft.
A good fairly high level overview of the whole writing process. Beginner level which was good for me, a beginner at the time. It's an older book. I really liked the author's voice - he comes across like a patient, loving instructor - one of those teachers you WANTED to get for your high-school English classes.
If this guy promoted his own work any more, it would've been a commercial to read the rest of his books. Nothing I didn't already know about writing and publishing.
The book has some good tips, nice advice, and I bet the exercises it offers are beneficial in the long run. The title was very misleading to me though. It was titled how to write (and sell) a Christian novel. I believe as well was the "and sell", the "a Christian" should be in parenthesis, because this book didn't focus much on Christian writing specifically or the Christian market--maybe a couple of mentions in a couple of chapters, and the "sell" part was only covered in the last chapter. So all in all, this wasn't the book I expected to read--judging from the title--but I was glad to have read it anyway.
